Tuesday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Showers and thunderstorms developed across portions of the Big Country once again today. Those affected by the rain likely received about a quarter to half an inch, but it was possible for some to see one inch or more. Highs were mainly in the 80s due to the cloud cover and rain. Our southeastern communities, however, reached the low 90s due to a lack of rain moving through that part of the area.

Good rain chances are going to be sticking with us through the end of the work week. We will have plenty of moisture remaining in place. Instability will be supplied by the heating of the day. There should be not one, not two, but three possible lifting mechanisms around the area. One is outflow boundaries from any thunderstorm activity that develops. Two is a stationary front to our north around the Red River. It is expected to move southward towards our area and hang out. Last, but not least, is upper level disturbances sent our direction thanks to a weak upper level low that is well west of us. Our biggest threat from any showers or thunderstorms that develop will be heavy rain. It will be possible to pick up a quick quarter to half an inch with isolated higher amounts depending on the strength of the storm. This could lead to ponding on the roadways and minor flooding of low-lying areas. Be careful if you are going to be out and about. Highs during this time period should be in the mid to upper 80s.

Some isolated showers and thunderstorms will still be possible on Saturday, but the chance is only 20%. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

A shift in the weather pattern is expected to take place by the second half of the weekend and early next week. The upper level high pressure ridge that has been to our west most of the summer may shift into the southern plains. This would increase our temperatures and bring our rain chances down to less than slight. For now, highs look to be in the low to mid 90s Sunday through next Tuesday.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Morning Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Yesterday morning was perfect for a nice swim but as the afternoon approached the clouds built in and the showers and storms came out. We saw a little less activity then a few previous days but many still had to use the windshield wipers on their way home from work.

Though we have finally said goodbye to one low another is just in the beginning stages. This low which is just below the Big Bend will slowly drift its way north and over the next few days and will stay just to the west of our area. Remember when the low is to the west we are on the wetter side. Because of this low, and also a front just above the panhandle we will begin to see increasing clouds and rain chances then next couple days. This only correlates to cooler highs and warmer lows. We will keep highs in the upper 80’s, with lows in the lower 70’s.

By the end of the week this weak low should begin to diminish. Right now models are suggesting a strong high building in which is usually what we see during the summer months. That being said we may finally see lots of sunshine, no rain chances and highs in the mid 90’s by the beginning of next week. Yes, I really did say 90’s. We will keep in an eye on this scenario the next couples days if it pans out we may finally see summer like weather arrive for August.

Have a great day!

Monday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Below average temperatures continued for the area today thanks to mostly cloudy skies and some showers and thunderstorms. Highs were mainly in the 80s, but Brownwood was able to hit 90 this afternoon. The rain was not as widespread or heavy as yesterday.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible throughout the work week and into the first half of the weekend. Plenty of moisture is expected to remain throughout that time period. Combine that with a possible upper level disturbance or upper level low developing in the state plus a stationary front that may slide far enough south to be in our area and you have good chances for rain. Those chances will range from 30% tomorrow to 50% Wednesday and Thursday. With these lifting mechanisms, weakening or moving out of the area towards the end of the work week, the chance for rain will drop to 30% on Friday. It is possible for us to see heavy rain at times so be careful on the roadways. Highs should be in the mid to upper 80s.

We could see some isolated showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. The chance of precipitaiton is 20%. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s under partly cloudy skies.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday Morning Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

If you got out early yesterday you saw the sunshine. But by late morning the storms were already over the area. Through the afternoon, plenty of showers covered the Big Country with Abilene picking up .14. This amount of rainfall has put us over our yearly total of 23.77, we have already received 23.81.

This morning we could see fog develop across the area, with plenty of moisture and calm winds. Temperatures are starting off in the upper 60's to lows 70's with highs reaching the mid 80's this afternoon. With the upper level low off to our west in northern Mexico and an upper level high beginning to build in to our east we still have a good shot at rain today. The best chance will be from late morning till late evening. Once we loose the heating of the day we should begin to diminish the activity however an isolated shower still is possible through the overnight. Lows will again be around 70.

The rain chances continue over the next several days do to a lot of factors in place. We should continue to see the pattern of showers and storms during the day with the activity dieing down after sunset. The factors will be plenty of moisture along with disturbances been thrown around the high and instability from the heating of the day. Highs will be in the mid 80's.

Have a great day!

Rain Chances Continue

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Showers and thunderstorms developed across the Big Country again today. None of the storms reached severe levels, but there was some heavy rainfall at times. Abilene Regional Airport reported 0.14", but there were some locations that received over half an inch. Highs today were in the 80s which is below average for this time of year.

The upper level low that has been responsible for our rain this week will continue to weaken as it moves off to the west. This doesn't mean an end to our chance for rain. In fact, we will see the possiblity of more precipitaiton during the entire work week. All of the necessary ingredients will be in place. One, moisture is expected to remain with us. Two, instability will arrive each and every day due to daytime heating. The final piece of the puzzle is lift. We should have that with occasional upper level disturbances moving into the region. Another lifting mechanism will be outflow boundaries from any thunderstorm activity that develops. Our chance for rain is 30% to 40% Monday through Friday. Highs should be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a magnificent Monday!

Saturday Forecast

Good Evening from Meteorologist Kristen Connolly….

We saw a beautiful start to the day with plenty of sunshine however that only helped to fuel the storms we saw pop up in the early afternoon. Across the area scattered showers and thunderstorms have built in with lots of rain falling. Some of the storms did produce some heavy rainfall. Coke County was under a flash flood warning till 7:30 pm. Be careful of ponding on the roadways.

Through the evening we should continue to see the scattered activity. Once the sun goes down the activity will diminish with lingering showers in the late evening. Overnight we will keep a twenty percent of showers but if any activity occurs, it should be isolated. Overnight lows will hover around 70 degrees.

With this upper level low still to our southwest we will see scattered clouds and another shot of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. Temperatures will get up into the upper 80’s.

The beginning of the work week we will continue to see the upper level low push to the west. This will keep rain chances at thirty percent for Monday. To our East an upper level high will begin to build in however this means we will still have to keep rain chances in through mid week. With a high in place we still have the possibility of disturbances rolling around so thunderstorms are still possible.

Temperatures through mid week should get back to the low 90’s.

Have a great day!

Keep The Umbrellas Close

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had some showers and thunderstorms move through portions of the Big Country again today thanks to an upper level low. It has been moving close to and through the area since late last night. Mostly cloudy skies and rain helped keep our highs in the 80s this afternoon.

The upper level low is expected to slowly drift towards and into the Big Bend region and west Texas this weekend. We will continue to have a 30% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. Heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds are possible at times. Highs should be in the mid to upper 80s under mostly cloudy skies.

With plenty of moisture expected to remain in place and occasional upper level disturbances possibly moving across the area, showers and thunderstorms can't be ruled out any day next week. The chance for rain is 20% for Monday through next Friday. Highs look to be in the low 90s.

Have a super Saturday!

Friday Morning Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

If you noticed one thing yesterday it would be that we have had almost two different days across the Big Country. Our Northern counties stayed dry with plenty of sunshine while the southern counties saw the clouds build in early and showers continue through the afternoon.

The rain we have seen the past few days has been thanks to a cut off upper level low. This low has been spinning down to the south causing an abundant amount of rainfall for the hill country and gulf coast. Corpus Christi received near an inch yesterday which caused flooding on major roadways. In the month of July that city has received nine times the amount of rain it usually receives (two inches). Right now the low is just south of San Angelo.

Through the day we will see the rain chances at forty percent with the best activity being in our southern and eastern counties closest to the low. Since this system is slow moving we could see storms linger over the same area which could cause the possibility of flooding. Right now we have no watches because of the fact we have been dry for a while and the ground can take some rainfall. By the overnight the activity should die down but we can expect another round by Saturday afternoon. For today and tomorrow highs with the cloud cover will stay in the mid 80’s with overnight lows around 70 degrees.

Rain chances should begin to decrease as the system pushes west keeping them at thirty percent Sunday and decreasing them to twenty on Monday. With less rain chances and cloud cover temperatures will gradually warm with highs in the upper 80’s.

Next week we should return to northly flow aloft which keeps the rain chances at twenty percent with highs in the low 90’s.

Have a great weekend!

Thursday, July 26, 2007

Thursday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We continue to have below average temperatures across the Big Country. Highs today were mainly in the 80s, but Abilene managed to hit 91 early in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms moved through the eastern half of the area thanks to a weak upper level low that contiues to sit near Del Rio.

The low will move very slowly to the west-northwest through the end of the week. With plenty of moisture remaining in place, a 30% chance for showers and thunderstorms continues Friday through Sunday. We could see some heavy rain at times so be careful if you are going to be out and about over the next couple of days. Temperatures should be well below average for this time of year thanks to mostly cloudy skies and occasional rain. Highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible through much of next week. The chance for rain is 20%. Highs should be in the low 90s.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Overall below average temperatures and sunshine made for nice half way point in our week, but things may be changing over the next couple days. We saw scattered showers and storms once again in our southern counties and more of us may be seeing rain into the weekend.

The upper level low that has caused plenty of rainfall in Del Rio and near 3 inches in greater San Antonio will continue to churn and keep the rain falling. This system will be nearly stationary through the day which will keep the bulk of the activity down in hill country and along the coast. For us we will see increasing clouds and rain chances spreading more north with everyone getting a 20 percent chance of seeing some showers. If this low tracks towards the Big Bend into the weekend we will be on store for a rainy few days. Remember, if an upper level low is to our west we will be on the wet side. Today and tomorrow our highs will stay in the mid 80’s but by the weekend should increase to the low 90’s. Overnight lows will be around 70 degrees.

We will keep the rain chances in through early next week with the best bet seeing afternoon thunderstorms as we again will be in northly flow aloft.

Have a great day!

Wednesday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Below average temperatures continued across the area today with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Showers and thunderstorms made their way into the southeastern portions of the viewing area thanks to a weak upper level low that is sitting in the southern portions of the state.

It looks like this low will be hanging with us for a while. In fact, it will likely retrograde to the west through the rest of the work week and into the weekend. This means the chance for rain will continue and increase as we head into Saturday. That is when the low should be in the most favorable position for us to see rain. Our chance for precipitation right now is 20% to 30%. Highs for the rest of the week look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

We will likely be in a north-northwest flow aloft early next week. Occasional upper level disturbances could move across the region and spark showers and thunderstorms. The chance for rain is 20%. Highs look to be in the low 90s.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Wednesday Morning Update

Good Morning everyone from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Yesterday lots of rain fell across the area and that has helped to develop some fog on the morning commute. Make sure to use low beam headlights and drive carefully as we are seeing reduced visibilities.

For the rest of today we should see a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will be a few degrees warmer than yesterday with highs in the upper 80’s. Down to our south we are watching a low that is spawning showers and thunderstorms around Corpus Christi and Brownsville. This could bring a few showers in our southern counties closest to the disturbance and the area with the most low level moisture. However, if we do see any development it should be short lived as our mid and upper levels are dry. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60’s.

Tomorrow will be very similar today with lots of sunshine a few clouds and isolated storms again possible in our southern counties.

By this weekend an upper level low could form in west Texas and that would mean a more cloud cover and rainy weekend. We are also watching a front from the north and a tropical wave that could help with the rain chances. We will be keeping a close eye on these scenarios. If they play out rain chances will be bumped up.

Have a great day!

Tuesday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Cooler temperatures returned to the Big Country today thanks to mostly cloudy skies and some rain. Highs ranged from the mid to upper 80s. Portions of the viewing area have seen as much as 2 to 3 inches of rain since yesterday evening. Abilene Regional Airport received about half an inch.

Showers and thunderstorms can't be ruled out for the rest of the week due to the current pattern. We remain in a north-northeast flow aloft. This means that occasional upper level disturbances could move into the region. With moisture still in place, showers and thunderstorms will be possible. We could also see an upper level low develop in the Lone Star State late in the work week and hang out through at least the weekend. For now, our chance for rain is 20% but that could increase as we get closer to the end of the week. Highs should be in upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Starting off with a Rainy Tuesday

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist…

We started off with a beautiful day across the Big Country but around 3 pm showers and thunderstorms popped up in our Eastern counties along a stationary front. This morning it is not our Eastern counties that are seeing the rain but our Western counties this is due to a shortwave that has made its way down through the north/northeast flow aloft.

We will see a wet start to our Tuesday with the showers and thunderstorms moving from northeast to southwest across west central Texas. Although we have not seen any watches or warnings we are still seeing some moderate to heavy rain in areas so be careful of ponding on the roadways. We will see the activity stick around through the morning with the best chance of the showers and thunderstorms through the day in our western and southern counties. Because of more cloud cover and rain cooled air temperatures won’t make it out of the mid 80’s.

We will keep in a twenty percent chance of thunderstorms for Wednesday with plenty of moisture and the possibility of more disturbances passing through the area. Over the next couple days rain chances will die out for most of us however I will keep in a slight chance of thunderstorms for Thursday and Friday in our southern counties where abundant moisture will be flowing in. If we get heating of the day or any disturbance storms could pop up. Temperatures will return back to the upper 80’s to low 90’s.

Come the weekend we could see a front approach the area. Because of this possibility I have kept a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms from Saturday through Monday.

For the rest of the week highs will be in the low 90’s with lows in the lower 70’s.

Have a great morning!

Keep Your Umbrellas Handy

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Temperatures continued to be on the upswing today with highs in the low to mid 90s. That is closer to what we should be averaging for this time of year. Showers and thunderstorms moved into portions of the area this afternoon. There is a chance for more tonight and tomorrow.

We continue to remain in our north-northeast flow aloft. We already have a disturbance moving southward through the Central Plains. It should be close to or possibly in the region overnight and early tomorrow. Showers and thunderstorms have also developed along a weak stationary front that is to our east. Some of that activity could get into our area as well. Overall, we have a 40% chance for rain tonight through tomorrow. Lows should be in the upper 60s to low 70s with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

The upper level pattern looks to remain similar throughout the week. Combine this with the moisture that is expected to remain in place and rain can't be ruled out for anyone in the area. There will be a slight chance for rain Wednesday through Sunday. A few of the days may see an increase in chances due to the possibility of an upper level low developing over southwest Texas late in the work week. It is a scenario we will be keeping an eye on over the next couple of days. Highs should be in the low 90s.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday Morning Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Sunday turned out to be an overall nice day after a bit of cloud cover and rainy weather the previous few days. Overnight we have stayed calm with temperatures around 70 degrees.

To start of our week we will keep rain chances around. For most of the Monday we will see partly sunny skies but towards late afternoon/evening we could see thunderstorms begin. Our current weather pattern is an upper level high out to the west. With clockwise rotation around a high, this puts us in a north northeast flow aloft. A disturbance that is currently far north in Iowa will be pushed south towards us. If it can stay together we could get impacted as early as afternoon. Temperatures will be a bit warmer with highs in the lower 90’s and lows in the lower 70’s.

Tomorrow we will keep a twenty percent chance of thunderstorms with highs in the upper 80’s. By Wednesday our flow in the upper levels will break down and help us to remove the rain chances. For the rest of the week we will see a mix of sun and clouds with low 90’s for afternoon highs. By the end of the week we could see a front bring back the rain chances for the weekend, right now the chance is just at slight.

Have a great week!

Saturday, July 21, 2007

Saturday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Scattered showers and thunderstorms moved through much of the area today. Once again, the rain and mostly cloudy skies kept our temperatures cooler than average for this time of year. Highs this afternoon were in the 80s.

The low pressure trough that has been responsible for our rain the past couple of days looks to weaken and move westward tomorrow. This will reduce our rain chance to 20%. Highs should be a little warmer in the upper 80s to low 90s under partly cloudy skies.

It looks like we will be in a north-northeast flow aloft next week. We could see occassional upper level disturbances move through the area. With plenty of moisture expected to remain in place, showers and thunderstorms can't be ruled out for any day. The chance for rain is 20%. Highs should be in the low 90s.

Have a spectacular Sunday!

Friday, July 20, 2007

Friday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Mostly cloudy skies as well as scattered showers and thunderstorms dominated the Big Country today. This led to temperatures remaining well below average for this time of year. Highs were mainly in the low 80s, but Brownwood managed to reach 88.

The low pressure trough that we have been talking about all week will remain in the southern portion of the state tomorrow before moving off to the west on Sunday. We also have a weak cold front approaching from the north. This front will likely stall and just miss us to the northeast. There is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and a 20% chance on Sunday. Highs should be in the mid 80s to around 90 this weekend.

We will have a 20% chance for rain during the next work week. It still looks like an upper level low will develop and cut off from the main jet stream flow. It should be in the Lone Star State, but at this time it is difficult to tell exactly where it will be since the low hasn't developed yet. Highs are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have super Saturday!

Friday Update

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Yesterday a lot of cloud cover blanketed the Big Country with the showers popping up in our Southern Counties. Today those who have not seen the rain will join in the activity so grab that umbrella on your way to work.

The upper level low that has impacted our weather throughout the week continues to churn just below the border. It will make a nudge to the northwest through the weekend. With its counter clockwise rotation more moisture will only continue to push in and with that better cloud cover and rain chances. Along with the upper level low on the surface we have a front that will push down through the plains and end up in Oklahoma by tonight. If this front can get into our area we will see better rain chances from the north.
With these factors in play Friday will be a cloudy and rainy one for most of the area. Temperatures will also stay cooler with highs in the low 80’s and lows in the upper 60’s. You many want to grab a good book or catch a movie.

Saturday mostly cloudy skies may alter your outdoor plans along with still seeing the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Hopefully by Sunday we can get a break with more sunshine and a bit warmer temperatures. Highs for the weekend will be mid 80’s with lows around 69 degrees.

Through next week we will keep a slight chance for afternoon thunderstorms with temperatures in the lower 90’s.

Have a good weekend!

Thursday, July 19, 2007

Thursday Evening Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Mostly cloudy skies dominated the Big Country today. Our temperatures have remained below average this afternoon because of it. Highs were in the mid to upper 80s. Once again, there have been some isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms in the southern portions of the viewing area.

A low pressure trough continues to sit to our south. The combination of that feature as well as an approaching cold front to the north this weekend will help increase our rain chances. The entire area has a 30% chance of rain tomorrow and Saturday. By Sunday, the chance for rain will fall a bit to 20%. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

By early next week, we should see a cut-off upper level low develop and move into the Lone Star State. Our chance for rain is 20%, but that could increase as we get closer to Monday. Highs will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Morning Update

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Showers and a few Thunderstorms popped up across the southern part of the Big Country yesterday. Across most the area we saw some better cloud cover and temperatures stayed in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.

More moisture pushed into the area yesterday raising the dew points and it looks like that trend will only continue. Today will be very similar to yesterday. Better cloud cover will be across the area with temperatures hitting the upper 80’s. The upper level low is still churning just below the Big Bend area and will linger for the next few days. This will again put the best chance for showers and thunderstorms in our southern counties today. Western and northern will still see partly cloudy skies, a bit warmer temperatures, but will get their fair shot of rain come the weekend.

Tomorrow we will see a front approach that will bump rain chances up for all of the Big Country tomorrow through Sunday.

Temperatures will be in the upper 80’s with lows in low 70’s.

Have a good day!

Wednesday, July 18, 2007

Wednesday Evening Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Below average temperatures continued for the Big Country today with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s. We should be experiencing temperatures in the mid 90s during mid-July. Dewpoints were up a little bit making it feel a less comfortable. Some southern communities in the vieiwng area were able to see some isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Tomorrow looks to be very similar to today. A low pressure trough will continue to drift off to the west-southwest which will put it in the southern portions of the state. There is a slight chance that the southern half of the viewing area will once again see some isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs should be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Our best chance for rain areawide will be Friday through Sunday at 20%. A weak cold front is still expected to be close to or in the area during that time period. There are some indications that the front may stall and that is why the increased chance for rain will linger through the weekend. Highs will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Some computer models are indicating a cutoff upper level low possibly moving towards the Lone Star State next week. Since the system has yet to even develop, we will just put in a slight chance of rain for now. Highs are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Wednesday Morning Update

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

We saw another gorgeous day across the Big Country yesterday. With not a cloud in the sky through the early morning by the afternoon a few had built. It was perfect for getting out and playing a game of tennis, with a bit a shade from the passing clouds you got some relief from the blazing sunshine. A few of us even had to dodge a couple rain drops in our very southern counties-Comanche and Brown.

Today we will again see that mix of sun and clouds with temperatures just a few degrees below our average. The chance for an isolated thunderstorm down in our southern counties will still be in play thanks to out flow boundaries and the upper level low to our south. Looking at the big picture few factors are still in play- upper level high to our north and an upper level low just below the Texas/Mexico border. We are still seeing drier air through out lower and upper levels but more gulf moisture is being pushed back into the Big Country. Again dew points today should range from the upper 50’s in the Snyder area to 70’s around Brownwood. That helps with where the best rain chances will be- where we have more moisture available. For the most part it will just be another beautiful and comfortable afternoon.

Tomorrow through the weekend rain chances will be bumped up for the whole area. Tomorrow still keeping it at slight but Friday through Sunday the chance goes up to 20%. We will see a frontal boundary that is causing some havoc up in the mid west makes its southward progression. Although it may stall out just before reaching us we still will see more cloud cover.

Temperatures stay steady in the lower 90’s with overnight lows in lower 70’s.

Have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Tuesday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had another beautiful day across the Big Country today. Highs were in the upper 80s to low 90s so we remained below average for this time of year. Our dewpoints were up a bit today in the mid 60s to around 70 which made it feel a little more uncomfortable compared to the last couple of days.

A low pressure trough continues to sit over southeast Texas. It will move west-southwest towards northern Mexico tomorrow and Thursday. This will give our southeastern communties a slight chance at showers and thunderstorms. Highs should be in the low 90s.

A better chance for rain across the entire area will be with us Friday through Sunday. A weak cold front is expected to be close to and possibly in the region during that time period. Fronts have a hard time getting this far south this time of year so it will likely not make it into the Big Country. The front will not have much of an impact, if any, on our temperatures, but it will increase our rain chance to 20%. Highs look to be in the low 90s.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Morning Update

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Our week started off with beautiful day across the area, less humidity and temperatures right around 90 degrees it was not a scorcher but definitely felt warm in the afternoon.

Much of the same conditions will be on board for the next couple days. With an upper level high pressure system still seated out west we will keep the forecast dry. Plenty of sunshine and temperatures right around 90 degrees will be in store at least until Thursday. Another good factor will be the continuing low dew points which help us with our heat indexes. With less moisture temperatures won’t feel much warmer than what they actually are. However, this also plays a factor in rain chances. Even though we may get a disturbance pushing through the area if we don’t have the moisture we won’t be able to produce any rain. By the end of the week more moisture should return which will help put the rain chances back in the seven day.

If you will be traveling down to the hill country or the gulf cost be ready for some wet weather. An upper level trough is in place and is producing plenty of rainfall in southern Texas. As this system makes its progression west we could see a few showers down in on southern counties.

The best rain chances will come by the weekend where a frontal system is still in place to make an impact.

Have a great day!

Monday, July 16, 2007

Monday Afternoon Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

The last couple of days have been pleasant for us here in the Big Country. Highs have been below average for this time of year. Drier air has moved in and made it feel more comfortable.

An upper level high pressure ridge will remain over the western part of the country through midweek. An occassiaonal upper level disturbance could move across the region tomorrow through Thursday. Until we have a little bit better moisture in place our chance for rain due to this scenario is less than slight. Our south and southeastern communties could see some showers and thunderstorms due to a low pressure trough. It is currently in the eastern portions of the state and is expected to move west-southwest through Thursday. Looking at the projected path, the chance of the rain is slight at best. Highs Tuesday through Thursday look to be in the low 90s.

The entire area will have a much better chance for rain Friday through Sunday. A few upper level disturbances as well as a weak cold front are expected to move close to or possibly into the Big Country. For now the chance of rain is 20%, but that could increase as we get closer to that time period. Highs look to be in the low 90s.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Week Starting Off Sunny

Good Morning Everyone from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

We started out weekend off on the wet side but were able to push it away and bring back some sunshine. Still had a few clouds around but that helped to give a little break from the heat as temperatures hit upper 80’s on Saturday and low 90’s on Sunday. Although those temperatures seem warm we still are below average ( 95 degrees ) for our summer. In fact we have yet to hit 95 here in Abilene the warmest we have seen was 94 degrees back on June 13th!

We are going to start our third week in July off with some beautiful weather. The sunshine will be out in full swing today. We will still have some humidity around however dew points will stay in the low 60’s which will make it so it feel fairly comfortable. The reason is high pressure is dominating out to the west this will keep our upper levels dry and should limit rain chances through mid week as it stays steadily in place. We do have an upper level low forming out towards the Texas/Louisiana border which will be slowly drifting south through the week into Mexico. This will spark showers and thunderstorms along the coast and keep rain chances in the hill country.

By the end of the week we will put rain chances back in the forecast thanks to the upper level low. The best chance will be out in southern counties as they will be in the closet proximity.

By the weekend a week cool front may push through keeping the rain chances at 20 percent.

Through the week temperatures will stay with highs in the lower 90’s and lows just around 70 degrees!

Enjoy the wonderful weather and have a great day!

Weekend Weather

Hey Everybody!

It seems like we experience one slow-moving system after another. We again find ourselves subject to some chnsces of afternoon and early evening precip across our area. The high pressure ridge out to the west seems to stay with us. Come tomorrow, drier air could filter into the Big Country and spark more locally severe storms with rain amounts of up to 2". The chances look best for this out to the south.

Models showing best lift indices at 36-48 hrs out, so will go with isolated showers tonight and bump the chances to 20% for Sunday. Expect highs to close to 90 for the majority of the area.

Thanks for tuning in to Abilene's First News for your weather updates - Have a great weekend.

Friday Evening Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was a cool and rainy day across much of the Big Country. Rainfall totals in some locations such as Fisher county reached 1 to 3 inches. Here in Abilene, we only received 0.38". Highs ranged from the upper 70s in Sweetwater to the upper 80s in Brownwood.

We will be in a northerly flow aloft this weekend. Periodic upper level disturbances could move through the region. Our chance for rain is 20%. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

An upper level low may cut-off from the main jet stream flow and set up shop in the Lone Star State much of next week. Right now, it looks like it will influence our weather Monday through Thursday. It is expected to start in east Texas before moving west across south Texas Tuesday. It should then sit in west Texas for the second half of the work week. Our chance for rain now is 20% to 30% during this time period. That chance could increase once we see exactly where the system develops and where it ends up moving. Highs are expected to be in the mid 80s to around 90.

By next Friday, an upper level high pressure ridge may have build far enough into our area from the east that we can put an end to the rain chances. At this time, the Big Country is right on the edge of the high so we will keep a slight chance of rain in the forecast. Highs are expected to be in the low 90s.

Have a super Saturday!

Friday Forecast

Good Morning everyone from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Yesterday was hot and humid across the Big Country. Temperatures rose into the low 90’s with overall partly cloudy skies. The overnight started off calm but as we approached dawn showers began to push in from the west along a trough bring heavier rainfall especially in Stonewall, Fisher and Knox counties.

It looks like Mother Nature might be bringing some more gloomy weather for Friday the 13th. At the surface a cold front is making a shove towards the Big Country along with a trough staying to the west. The front should washout by tomorrow with the trough staying around Texas till Sunday. In the upper levels we continue to see northwest and north flow aloft which will bring a few disturbances- only helping the rain chances. With the many dynamics in place rain chances will increase through out the day along with the cloud cover. Because of this temperatures will stay only in the upper 80’s.

Saturday may be a good time to hit the movies and make sure to bring the umbrella! We will continue to see Mostly Cloudy skies with a thirty percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the temperatures will stay in the upper 80’s with lows in the upper 60’s.

By Sunday we will see the possibility of another upper level low form over North Texas. If this pans out it will only help fuel the rain chances for the beginning of next week as well as keeping temperatures steadily in the upper 80’s.

Have a good weekend!

Thursday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

The hot and humid conditions remained in the Big Country today. Highs were in the low 90s with dewpoints still in the mid 60s to mid 70s. No rain has moved through the area yet today, but we have a good chance at rain tomorrow.

A weak cold front is still expected to move through the region Friday evening. Upper level disturbances should also move through the area. Our chance for rain is 40% during the day, but increases to 50% for the night. Heavy rain is possible as well as some severe thunderstorms. Highs tomorrow will likely be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

We could see some lingering showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. The chance for rain is 30%. Highs should be in the mid to upper 80s.

It looks like an upper level low may try to develop and move around the Lone Star State Sunday through much of next week. It is a little early to tell exactly where this low will be since it hasn't developed yet. Rain chances will depend heavily on where it goes. For now, the chance of rain is 20%. That could increase though as we get closer to that time period. Highs are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Wednesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had another hot and humid day today. Highs were in the low to mid 90s with dewpoints in the mid 60s to mid 70s. A few showers and thunderstorms developed in Scurry and Stonewall counties this afternoon.

An upper level high pressure ridge remains parked over the western U.S., so we remain in a north-northwest flow aloft. We could see an upper level disturbance or two move through the area tomorrow through Friday afternoon. This could cause some showers and thunderstorms to develop or move into our area. The chance for rain is 20%. Highs will be in the mid 90s tomorrow.

A cold front is still expected to move close to or into the region late Friday. This will increase our rain chance for the end of the work week to 30%. That same percentage will continue into Saturday with the front still hanging around. Temperatures will only cool down a little bit with highs in the low 90s.

We will have a slight chance for rain Sunday through next Wednesday. Highs should be in the low to mid 90s.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Wednesday Morning Update

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

We saw mostly cloudy skies for most of the morning yesterday but the clouds broke in the early afternoon and temperatures tipped into the 90’s.

Storms have stayed up in the panhandle this morning thanks to a system in the upper levels. We should see them brush our northern counties however the heaviest activity has stayed out of our area. Through the next few days we will stay in northwest flow aloft which could spark a few more disturbances pushing through. We have plenty of moisture that will help with the storms and also the heat indices. Temperatures will be in the lower 90’s however it can feel 5-10 degrees warmer thanks to lots of humidity. Please exercise caution if you will be outdoors for any length of time-stay hydrated, in the shade and limit your time especially in during peak hours.

For the weekend you might want to keep the umbrella somewhere handy.
A front will be knocking at our door however models have it stalling out right to our north. With the front approaching cloud cover will increase as well as rain chances. This will help bring out temperatures just a few degrees cooler. Overnight lows will drop in the upper 60’s.

Have a good one.

Tuesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Hot and humid conditions continued across the Big Country today. Highs were in the low to mid 90s with dewpoints in the mid 60s to mid 70s. This once again put heat index values for some locations in the upper 90s to over 100. Showers and thunderstorms moved through the western portions of the viewing area this morning.

We have a chance at seeing more rain during the overnight hours. Some thunderstorms are moving in from the northeast off of an outflow boundary from Oklahoma. Showers and thunderstorms are once again occurring in eastern New Mexico and the Texas panhandle. Since we are still in a northwest flow aloft, this activity could make it into the Big Country if it holds together. Lows tonight should be in the low to mid 70s.

Periodic upper level disturbances could move into the area Wednesday through Friday. We may also have some outflow boundaries move through the region thanks to any thunderstorm activity that develops in and outside of our area. These will be the lifting mechanisms for us that cause showers and thunderstorms. Our chance for rain during this time period is 20%. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 90s. Please be careful in the heat. Take the necessary precautions to protect yourself if you are going to be outdoors.

A cold front looks to move into the Big Country late Friday into Saturday. This will increase our rain chance to 30%. Temperatures will only cool down a little bit as highs should be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

A slight chance for rain continues Sunday through next Tuesday due a north-northwest flow remaining over the area. Highs look to be in the low to mid 90s.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Morning Outlook

Good Morning Everyone!

Not much change in the forecast. We still see a warm and moist air mass over the Big Country that can spark showers/storms today. High pressure ridge remains in place and precip can occur around the outer flow, but predict most activity for the state will be in the panhandle.

Look for lows in the lower 90's once again. The wind will flow from the south-west during the day, then turn southerly tonight.

Yesterday some towns experienced very high heat index values so if working in the outside today, please remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks.

Thanks for choosing the KRBC Weather Team for your updates and have a great day!

Monday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had a hot and humid day here in the Big Country today. Highs were in the low to mid 90s and many of us had dewpoints in the mid 60 to upper 70s. Heat index values were in the upper 90s in Abilene and near 110 in Brownwood. Part of the northern portions of the viewing area saw some showers and thunderstorms from late this morning into the early afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday through Friday due to our current pattern. An upper level high pressure ridge continues to sit in the southwestern United States. This is putting us in a north-northwest flow aloft. Periodic upper level disturbances could move through the area and spark some showers and thunderstorms since we have plenty of moisture in place. We will also have to keep an eye to any activity that develops to our northwest in the Texas panhandle. Showers and thunderstorms may develop there in the afternoon and then move into our area during the late evening and overnight hours. The chance of rain for the work week is 20%. Highs should be in the low to mid 90s.

The upper level high pressure ridge looks to slide westward late Friday into Saturday. This may allow a cold front to move into the Big Country during that time period. If it does make it, our temperatures will likely only cool down a few degrees. It will increase our rain chance to 30% for Friday night into Saturday though. Highs are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday Morning Outlook

Good Morning All!

Let's expect a warm day ahead with highs in the lower 90's around the Big Country. Winds will be up today - 10-20 mph from the south.

There is a weak upper-level system that could produce showers to the southern portion of our area, however the precip. will be slight if experienced, possibly 1/4".

Later in the week, high pressure in the southwest will begin a move across the Rockies creating disturbances that could spark some showers in our area. Current prediction is in the area north of I-20, but how this high moves to the west will dictate the location of storm activity.

Because of this, left the chance of precip. in the forecast for much of the workweek.

Thanks for checking in with KRBC for your weather updates and have a great week!

Sunday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector....

For most of us here in the Big Country, it was a very warm and dry day. However, in the southeastern portions of the viewing area there was some rain. Showers and thunderstorms developed this afternoon and evening in Comanche, Brown, Coleman and Runnels counties. Coleman and Comanche counties were under Flash Flood Warnings this evening for a few hours due to the heavy rainfall.

An upper level high pressure ridge is expected to remain in the southwestern portions of the country through the work week. This will put us in a north-northwest flow aloft. Periodic upper level disturbances could move through the region Monday through Friday. With plenty of moisture in place, showers and thunderstorms will be possible. The chance for precipitation is 20%. We may also see rain develop in southeastern Colorado or the Texas panhandle and move into our area during the evening and overnight hours. The reason our chance for rain is not higher is due to the possiblity of the ridge building far enough east that our area is kept from the rain. Highs for Monday through Friday look to be in the low to mid 90s under partly cloudy skies.

By next weekend, the upper level high pressure ridge may be retreating to the west. This may allow a cold front to move towards or possibly into the region. For now, the chance for rain is just 20%. It is difficult for cold fronts to make it this far south this time of year. If it does, it won't affect our temperatures much. Highs for Saturday and Sunday should be in the low 90s.

Have a magnificent Monday!

Weekend Weather

Good Afternoon Everyone!

We finally see more appropriate weather for this time of year as the low that has giving us fits finally leaves the building! Soon we will see our temps move into the 90's during the day as high pressure finally takes over and we get a chance to dry out.

There is a chance of isolated showers this afternoon and in the middle of your work week, but essentially our weekend weather should be wonderful with highs in the lower 90's and lows near 70.

Here's one for the watercooler come Monday; Saturday was the day the Earth was farthest from the Sun all year long! (Known as "aphelion")

Thanks for choosing KRBC for your weather updates and have a great weekend!

Friday Evening Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Once again, we had mostly cloudy skies as well as some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Big Country today. Highs were in the mid to upper 80s.

The upper level low that has hung around the southern plains for the last couple of weeks continues to move northeast towards Arkansas and Louisiana. We will see a reduction in our rain chances because of this. However with plenty of moisture expected to remain in place, it is not out of the question for us to see some isolated showers and thunderstorms this weekend due to the heating of the day or if a weak disturbance makes it into the area. Our chance for rain this weekend is only 20%. I expect most of us to remain dry Saturday and Sunday. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

An upper level high pressure ridge should continue to remain parked over the southwestern portions of the country. This will keep us in a north-northwest flow aloft next week. We may see some periodic upper level disturbances move through the region. It is possible for us to see some showers and thunderstorms because of this. For now, our chance for rain Monday through next Friday is slight. That could increase as we get closer to those time periods and we get a better handle on exactly where and when these disturbances will affect us. Highs look to be in the low to mid 90s.

Have a super Saturday!

Friday Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Still saw the rain all across the area, nevertheless, we also got some sunshine in here and I think that will be a sign of days to come.

This morning we are waking up to a calm morning around the area with most the activity staying just to our east. As the upper level low makes to way out of Texas we will see the rain chances decrease with it. Right now we will keep it 30% for today and decreasing the chance to 20% through the weekend. As the low finally pushes out high pressure will hold strong. Because we could see a few disturbances thrown around it we have to keep in at least a slight chance through the seven day. Through the weekend we will just see lots more sunshine and with that the temperatures climbing back into the 90’s. If you have been delaying that camping trip looks like some drier weather might finally help you out.

For the beginning of the work week we will have partly cloudy skies with low 90’s for highs and low 70’s for low.

Have a great weekend!

Rain Chances Are Decreasing

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was another day of mostly cloudy skies as well as scattered showers and thunderstorms here in the Big Country. There were enough breaks in the clouds that we saw highs in the mid 80s. This is well below average for this time of year. We should be seeing highs in the mid 90s.

The upper level low that has been hanging around the Lone Star State and the southern plains for the last couple of weeks began moving north again. Today's movement took it from the middle Texas coast towards the eastern portions of the state. It is basically moving along Interstate 35.

It looks like the low will continue its slow north-northeastward movement tomorrow. We should once again see some scattered showers and thunderstorms. The chance for rain is 40%. Highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s under mostly cloudy skies. A Flash Flood Watch will continue for Comanche, Eastland and Stephens counties until tomorrow evening.

The chance for rain is going to decrease to 20% for this weekend due to the low continuing its northeastward movement away from the area. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s under mostly to partly cloudy skies.

Even though the low should be gone next week, we will still have a slight chance for rain. An upper level high pressure ridge is expected to remain in the western U.S. We look to be in a north-northwest flow aloft. It is possible for us to see occassional disturbances move through the region. Moisture will still be in place so precipitation can't be completely ruled out any day next week. Highs are expected to be back in the low 90s.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Morning

Good morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly …

The clouds held strong yesterday but the sun was able to break through getting temperatures in the mid 80's. A few natural fireworks popped up but that didn't ruin everyone's 4th of July plans!

Overnight we have stayed calm with just a few showers in our southern counties.

Today the low will continue to churn down to our south, located right now around the Austin area. We also have another system located in the panhandle sparking storms this morning to our north. We will keep the rain chances at 50 %. The low will most impact our southern and eastern counties and the system in the panhandle could bring a few showers and thunderstorms to our northern counties however not ruling out a storm all across the area. With again a mix of sun and clouds we will stay in the mid 80's. Today may be one more day to hit a museum or movie but good news may be coming.

The long lasting low looks to move more northeast. If the system can stay to our east that means decreasing rain chances for our area, right now going with 30% for Friday and 20% over the next seven days. With a very moist airmass in place and heating of the day it will be easy to at least see an isolated thunderstorm over the next several days. As we see more sunshine temperatures will climb into the upper 80's and get back to the 90's by early next week.

Hope you had a Happy Fourth and have a good day today!

Wednesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Happy Independence Day everyone! I hope you have had a nice day. The weather didn't turn out to be too bad. The sunshine was able to peak through the clouds at times throughout the day. Even though there were some showers and thunderstorms across the Big Country. They were scattered and only had brief heavy rainfall at best. A Flash Flood Watch continues for Brown county through Thursday evening. A Flash Flood Watch continues for Comanche, Eastland and Stephens counties through Friday evening. A Flood Warning is still in effect for Comanche county because the Leon River is running about a foot above flood stage near De Leon. The warning is in effect through tomorrow evening.

The good news I have is that it looks like the rain will continue to taper off this evening. This means the fireworks show here in Abilene as well as other places in the viewing area should be okay. It will be a little muggy with lows reaching the mid to upper 60s overnight.

The upper level low that we have been talking about for a while is currently sitting along the middle Texas coast. It is expected to sit around that area again tomorrow which means we will see similar conditions to what we experienced today. There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs look to be in the low to mid 80s under mostly cloudy skies.

The computer models that we use to help guide us in our forecasts are all over the place with where this low will move next. One has it moving into east Texas while the others have it moving towards and into west Texas. I am still leaning towards the solution that puts it to our west. Rain chances will be 40% on Friday, 30% on Saturday and 20% Sunday through next Wednesday. These chances could increase depending on where the low is located and how strong it is as we get closer to this time period. Highs should range from the mid 80s to low 90s.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July from morning meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Through the overnight we have seen a break in the activity. But the rain is not gone yet. Again for our holiday we will see mostly cloudy skies with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The best chance will be in our southern and eastern counties. The low has been pushing more south through Texas and will continue on its path. A few of our counties have been dropped from the flash flood watch those counties include: Fisher, Nolan, Jones, Taylor and Coke. We will again see a few breaks in the clouds today so not ruling out some sunshine which will help reach temperatures in the mid 80's.

Overnight we will keep lows in the upper 60's with a chance for showers and thunderstorms.

Through the next few days we will keep the rain chances still in the forecast. Highs will increase a few degrees each day hitting the low 90's by early next week.

This low will continue to push south and southwest and may make a return back to west central Texas early next week. This will only mean more rain chance because of that I will keep a 20 % chance of rain in the seven day forecast however may have to boost the chances up in the next couple days.

Have a wonderful Independence Day!

Wet Independence Day

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Mostly cloudy skies as well as showers and thunderstorms affected much of the Big Country again today. Some locations such as Sweetwater had rainfall totals better than 2 inches while other like Abilene and Snyder had a trace or less. A Flash Flood Watch continues for most of the viewing area through tomorrow afternoon. Knox, Haskell, Throckmorton, Stonewall, Scurry and Mitchell counties are the only ones not in the watch. A Flood Warning continues for Comanche county until tomorrow morning for the Leon River near De Leon. It is still running a few feet above flood stage, but should be back below that level late tonight.

The upper level low that moved through our area early this morning is now sitting around the Junction area and Interstate 10. It is expected to drift south-southwest tomorrow toward Mexico. Plenty of moisture will still be in place in our area. Even though the low will not be close to us, it should still send some disturbances our way. We have a 50% chance for rain tomorrow, Independence Day. Many of you probably have outdoor plans for the holiday. Tomorrow could be similar to today where some of us see some rain and some don't. Either way, you will want to have some back up indoor plans just in case. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 80s under mostly cloudy skies.

On Thursday and Friday, the low should have drifted west into the Big Bend region and north Mexico. We still have a 40% to 50% chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms during that time period. Highs will be in the mid 80s.

The low may have drifted far enough to the south-southwest that it won't affect our region this weekend. We still have a slight to 20% chance for rain though. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

A slight chance for rain will continue early next week. The reason for this is that some computer models are indicating the low drifting back to the north into west Texas. That would put the Big Country in the favorable area for rain if the low is there. Rain chances for Monday and next Tuesday could increase if this scenario plays out. We will keep you updated on this throughout the week.

Have a fantastic Fourth of July!

Tuesday Morning Update

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

We started our Holiday work week off wet. Showers and thunderstorms covered the area with otherwise cloudy skies. The sun finally peeked out towards evening, however, with the rain and clouds during the day temperatures stayed near 20 degrees below average. We also picked up .83 inches here at the Abilene Regional Airport which is almost half what we normally receive in the month of July (1.70 inches).

Overnight we have continued to see showers mainly staying in our southern counties.

The rain does not look to be going anywhere at least for the next few days. With the low just to our west and slowly inching its way south and southwest, this means only plenty more rainfall. With are already saturated grounds we have flash flood watches in effect until at least tonight for most of the area. With a repeat of yesterday- the rain and cloud cover will again keep temperatures in the upper 70's to low 80's. Rain chances will stay at 60% for today dropping to 40% for tonight with lows in the upper 60's. We could again see area pick up one to two inches.

Independence Day we will still be caught in the wet pattern as the low isn't far enough away. Rain chances will stay at 40% with mostly cloudy skies. With a few breaks possible we will see temperatures a few degrees warmer. If you have any plans outdoors be aware of the weather situation and be careful of the flooding potential.

Through the end of the work week we will gradually decrease the rain chances as the low moves farther away. Along with that we will slowly increase the temperatures getting back to 90's by the weekend.

Have a great day!

Monday, July 02, 2007

Rain Chances Continue

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Showers and thunderstorms moved through most of the Big Country today. The rain was heavy enough to cause some flooding in parts of the viewing area. Highs today were in the upper 70s to mid 80s due to the rain and mostly cloudy skies. Flash Flood Watches are in effect for Knox, Haskell, Throckmorton, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Nolan, Taylor, Callahan, Coke, Runnels, Coleman and Brown counties through Tuesday afternoon. Comanche, Eastland and Stephens counties are under a Flash Flood Watch through Wednesday afternoon. A Flood Warning continues for Comanche county until further notice for the Leon River near DeLeon. The river there is above flood stage and is not expected to be below that level until late in the week.

The upper level low that gave us our rain last week will continue to make its way back across the Lone Star State. It was in Kansas and Oklahoma this weekend, but an upper level high pressure ridge in the southwest U.S. is forcing the low back into the state. We will have a 60% chance for showers and thunderstorms tomorrow as it will be just to our east. It is possible for portions of the area to see 1 to 2 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts. Fog and mist is possible at times too. Highs look to be in the upper 70s to mid 80s.

The low is expected to be to our southeast on Wednesday, the Fourth of July. Our chance for rain is at 50% so you may want to think about some backup indoor plans just in case. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s which is below average for this time of year.

By Thursday and Friday, the low should be to our south and southwest. It will likely be in the Big Bend region or northern Mexico by then. Our chance for rain will be less at 30% to 40% due to the low possibly weakening by that time. Highs will likely be in the mid to upper 80s.

The upper level high pressure ridge to our west looks to build into the area this weekend. There will be a slight chance for rain on Saturday, but Sunday and next Monday should be dry. Highs are expected to return to the low 90s by the second half of the weekend.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday Morning Forecast

Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Sunday was one of the finer days we have seen in a while across the area. We saw lots of sunshine especially through the morning and early afternoon.

Through the overnight the upper level low that we have been talking about for weeks began its shove back our way. Right now it is sitting over the Red River area and sparking showers and thunderstorms in our northwestern counties. This will be the best chance for our activity through out the day today- eastern and northeastern. Along with that the rain chances will increase throughout the day as the low moves even closer. Temperatures will be in the upper 80’s. Tonight we will bump rain chances up to 50 percent as lows hover in the upper 60’s.

The next several days are staying wet as this upper level low is sticking around Texas. The forecasted track of the low is staying more east and moving south which would keep the best chances to our eastern and southern counties. Tomorrow we will bump the rain chances to 50 percent and keep them at 40 for Wednesday. If you have outdoor 4th of July plans you might want to start making some indoor alternative ones.
Hopefully we can get a few breaks so you can enjoy your barbeque!

Have a great day!

Sunday Evening Outlook

Hi Everybody!

After a brief period to dry out, looks like we will see the return of rain in the next 24-36 hours. Our pesky upper-level low is moving a tad to the south and should continue this movement giving the chance of some locally heavy precip into Independence Day. There is a possibility of another 1-2" of rainfall. We can expect some isolated showers this evening with a jump in precip. possibilities Monday evening. Lows tonight around the Big Country will try to hit 70 and more cool days ahead with a high tomorrow in the upper 80's.

Thanks for checking in with KRBC for your weather updates - Have a safe 4th.
