Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Warm and humid weather around to start the new week across West Central Texas. Low clouds will develop this morning across parts of the area and will break up later this morning before more clouds develop into the afternoon. There is a lot of low level moisture feeding up across the area. Another model is also hinting at some slight rain chances by afternoon. Highs today will climb into the middle 90s with overnight lows tonight dropping into the middle and upper 70s.

* The Week Ahead: Looks like another slight chance for thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon across the Big Country. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy sky daily with highs in the middle 90s with overnight lows in the middle 70s. The good news is a cold front will arrive by the late part of the week bringing in some cooler weather just in time for the Labor Day holiday weekend and also some more rain chances. Cold Front Brings In Major Changes:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited:

* Mostly clear and warm out there early this morning but this will be a day of major weather changes for West Central Texas. We'll start off mostly sunny and will warm up as normal into the morning period. A cold front will move into the northern counties by midday and will march south and southeastward across the Big Country into the afternoon and evening. Clouds will be on the increase as well by midday. Temperatures are the challenge today for this forecast as it will be cooler to the north of the front, warmer to the south and the areas along the I-20 corridor will be range in the middle before the front arrives. I am going to say temperatures this afternoon will range from 83-98 across West Central Texas. I think the Abilene area will warm into the lower to mid 90s by early afternoon before the front hits and drops the numbers into the afternoon and evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop along and behind the front later today, tonight and a few still around on Wednesday. Winds will pick up really quickly this afternoon out of the north and northwest between 20-30 miles per hour. Much cooler tonight with lows in the middle 60s and cooler on Wednesday with highs only into the lower to middle 80s, with clouds around and a cool north wind.

* Late Week/Weekend: Nice weather for the end of the week and the first half of the weekend with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s with a few clouds around. There is a slight chance for rain on Sunday and into Monday of early next week. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. * After seeing some slightly cooler weather on Wednesday the hot and humid weather returns for your Thursday. Tad Cooler For Some, Storms For Others:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* As the forecast models yesterday morning and afternoon predicted a complex of thunderstorms developed in the Panhandle and South Plains and moved down across the Big Country overnight. Some areas picked up a nice rain overnight while others not so much with this complex. At the time I am writing this blog update light to moderate rain, with some imbedded lightning in spots, continues across the Southern & Eastern Big Country, the Northern Concho Valley and the Northern Heartland along and ahead of a weak frontal boundary that will continue to drift around the region today. This boundary should stall just to the south of Interstate 20. Areas along and south of this boundary will see a few spotty showers and thunderstorms today, while areas to the north should be dry and a tad cooler thanks to a north and northwest wind. I'm leaving in a 20 percent chance for storms today for areas along and south of a Sweetwater - Abilene - Eastland line today, with the best chances over the Concho Valley and Heartland. Temperatures will range from the middle 90s across the northern counties to upper 90s and low 100s on the other side of the boundary in the southern counties.

* Late Week & Weekend: The slightly cooler temperatures today will not stick around long as we should slowly warm back up on Thursday. The rest of week and into the weekend will feature hot and humid weather each day with a partly cloudy sky and highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Heat Index values in the afternoons will range between 100-105. Overnight lows remain warm in the middle and upper 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. Scattered Thunderstorms This Evening & Tonight:

Good Afternoon/Evening from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon and evening across West Central Texas. A few of these storms could be strong with gusty winds, intense lightning and maybe some small hail. Models are right on target with a developing complex of thunderstorms over the Texas Panhandle and across Western Oklahoma this afternoon and evening. Models bring that complex down toward the Big Country overnight. If this complex holds together we could see some decent and much needed rain but still a threat a fwe storms could be strong. We saw one complex do the same thing Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Otherwise tonight expect a partly cloudy sky with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

* Late Week/Weekend: We have a slight chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday, mainly early, with highs in the upper 90s. The rest of week will feature hot and humid weather each day with a partly cloudy sky and highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Heat Index values in the afternoons will range between 100-105. Overnight lows remain warm in the middle and upper 70s.

Have a great night...

More Spotty Storms Today, Hot & Humid:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Complex of thunderstorms is skirting the Big Country to the north of the U.S. 380 corridor early this morning bringing some rain to Knox, Haskell, Stonewall and Throckmorton County. There are several outflow boundaries from these storms and other storms from yesterday afternoon and last night around the area. Hot and humid weather will help generate more scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening across the region along these boundaries. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy day across the area with highs in the upper 90s and the lower 100s. The heat index in the afternoon will range between 100-105 which is close but below advisory criteria.

* The upper high is centered to our west and this puts our region in a northwesterly flow around the high. Models are developing a complex of thunderstorms over the Texas Panhandle and across Western Oklahoma tonight and dropping that complex toward the Big Country overnight. If this complex holds together we could see some decent and much needed rain tonight. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy night with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

* Late Week/Weekend: We have a slight chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday with highs in the upper 90s. The rest of week will feature hot and humid weather each day with a partly cloudy sky and highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Heat Index values in the afternoons will range between 100-105. Overnight lows remain warm in the middle and upper 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Heat Advisory In Effect:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

*** Heat Advisory in effect for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley until 7:00 P.M. this evening. Afternoon heat index values will range between 105-110 with air temperatures in the upper 90s and lower 100s ***

* Hot and humid weather persists for West Central Texas. A weak frontal boundary is stalled across the northern counties this morning. We also have a few outflow boundaries across the area as well, one being right along the I-20 corridor this morning. An isolated shower or storm could pop up along the boundary this morning. Hot and humid weather will help generate more scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening across the region. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy day across the area with highs in the upper 90s and the lower 100s. The heat index in the afternoon will range between 105-110 which meets advisory criteria so a Heat Advisory is in effect until 7:00 P.M. for most of the viewing area. Storms will end this evening, partly cloudy, warm and humid with lows i the middle and upper 70s.

* The Week Ahead: Partly cloudy with a slight chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the upper 90s.

Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. A Few Thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

As of this Sunday evening, I'm in the Weather Lab watching some thunderstorms on Triple Doppler Radar. As of 4:20pm they stretch from near Hubbard Creek Reservoir at Breckenridge to the northwest around Haskell.

The storms are being caused by a cold front near the northern Big Country. This front will remain in the area Monday and Tuesday, and should set off some thunderstorms both days.

This time of year, based on how the storms develop, they can produce sudden microburst winds .. high winds that can approach tornado strength at times. Just be watchful of these afternoon storms and know that they may become severe quickly in this hot weather.

Speaking of the heat, we get a minor (and brief) break from triple digit temperatures Monday and Tuesday, but still hot, in the mid to upper 90's.

Mid to late week, highs back to near 100 each day. In short, the summer heat wave continues.

A Hot & Humid Weekend Ahead:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Another hot and humid day ahead for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Friday. We'll start off sunny and warm but look for a few clouds develop into the afternoon. While I'm not including a rain chance in the forecast for today there could be a very spotty shower or thunderstorm develop in the hottest part of the day anywhere across the region. Highs today in the upper 90s/low 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Heat Index values later this afternoon will range from 100-105 across the area.

* The Weekend: High pressure still dominates our forecast into the weekend but will build more to our west. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day and a mostly clear sky each night. Temperatures will remain above normal and hot into the upper 90s and the lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. The heat index each afternoon will hover around and over 100. A very spotty shower or storm could pop up but there chance is too low to include in the weekend forecast.

* Next Week: Models runs are still suggesting a weak cold front will stall across the South Plains and Texoma next week. The front will be close enough to include an slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Don't expect the temperatures to cool down much as the front doesn't make any progress into the Big Country. Highs still in the upper 90s to low 100s for the first part of the week but by middle of the week we'll "cool" down into the upper 90s areawide with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Expect a partly cloudy sky each day next week

Isolated Afternoon Storms, Hot & Humid:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* No change in the current pattern expected today across West Central Texas today. Just like the last few days we'll start off sunny to mostly sunny and warm but look for more clouds to develop by midday and into the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again possible this afternoon and this evening with about a 20-percent chance. Another hot summer day ahead with highs once again in the upper 90s/low 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Heat Index values later this afternoon will range from 100-105 across the area.

* High pressure will still dominate our forecast into the weekend but will build more to our west. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day and a mostly clear sky each night. Temperatures will remain above normal and hot into the upper 90s and the lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. The heat index each afternoon will hover around and over 100.

* Next Week: Models runs this morning are backing off on rain chances and slightly cooler weather that has been advertised the last few days. The frontal boundary will push down across Texoma and should stall around that region by the late weekend and early next week. One or two models are still trying to bring it into the Big Country before stalling the boundary. I'm still going to include a 20-percent chance for rain on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I raised the temperatures a degree or two based on model trends into the upper 90s. If the front manages to make it a little more south I'll have to lower the numbers back some for early next week.

Another Hot Day, A Few Isolated Storms:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* We'll start off mostly sunny and warm this morning with a few high clouds in spots but look for more clouds to develop by midday and into the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again possible later today and this evening with about a 20-percent chance. Another hot summer day ahead with highs once again in the upper 90s/low 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Heat Index values later this afternoon will range from 100-105 across the area.

* High pressure will dominate our forecast for the rest of the week. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day and a mostly clear sky each night. Temperatures will remain above normal and hot into the upper 90s and the lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. The heat index each afternoon will hover around and over 100.

* Weekend/Next Week: A hot day on Saturday with temperatures around 100 and a partly cloudy sky. A frontal boundary will push southward and should stall around the region by the late weekend and early next week bringing us a bit more clouds and daily shower and thunderstorm chances. We should also see the temperatures cool down a bit with highs back in to the middle 90s.

* Tropical Depression 5 developed last night in the Gulf of Mexico and it tracking toward Southeast Louisiana. The system is expect to strengthen into a tropical storm and would take the 'D' name on the list which is 'Danielle' this season. Don't expect the system to affect our weather here and the weather across all any of Texas for the most part.

Hot & Humid Day, A Spotty Storm?

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Some clouds around the area this morning, mostly debris clouds left over from thunderstorms last night to our west. Radar quiet early this morning. We'll start off mostly sunny this morning with those high clouds in the area but look for more clouds to develop into midday and the afternoon. There is a very small chance of a stray shower or storm but only about a 10-percent chance today. Forecast highs today in the upper 90s and lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Heat Index values this afternoon will range from 100-105 across the area.

* Upper level high pressure system continues to dominate our forecast this week. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day and a mostly clear sky each night. Temperatures will remain above normal and hot into the upper 90s and the lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. The heat index each afternoon will hover around and over 100. Models are bringing temperatures back down in the middle 90s by the late weekend and into early next week, not to mention a slight chance of rain into the area.

* I'm still keeping an eye on the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico as models continue to develop an easterly moving low into a tropical system over the next few days. The National Hurricane Center this morning gives the system a 50-percent chance of going tropical. Computer models are taking this system inland from as far east as the Florida Panhandle to as far west as the Central Louisiana Coast. Don't expect this system to have any impact on our current weather trend as the upper level highs should keep the system and any moisture away from Texas.

Another Hot & Humid Week Ahead:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* A weak upper level low pressure system is slowly drifting northwestward across West Central Texas this morning and will continue to move across the region on this Monday. Combined with daytime heating and our humid air mass, a few isolated showers or thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and this evening across the area. Otherwise expect a mostly sunny sky to start the day with clouds building to give us a partly cloudy sky this afternoon, this evening and for tonight. Highs today in the upper 90s and lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Heat Index values this afternoon will range from 98-105 across the area.

* The Week Ahead: Upper level high pressure system will continue to dominate our forecast for the week ahead. Expect a mostly sunny sky each day and a mostly clear sky each night. Temperatures will remain above normal and hot into the upper 90s and the lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. The heat index each afternoon will hover around and over 100. We'll keep an eye on the northern areas of the Gulf of Mexico as models are trying to develop an easterly moving low into a tropical system over the next few days. Computer models are taking this system inland from as far east as the Florida Panhandle to as far as Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. Don't expect this system to have any impact on our current weather trend but I'll continue to monitor the next few days.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. Hot Weekend Ahead But A Few Spotty Storms:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Hot weather will continue today and into the weekend for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day with highs ranging in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Mostly clear at night with lows in the middle and upper 70s. There is a slight chance of an isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms for the next few days but these storms will be very spotty in nature.

* Next Week: The high pressure ridge remains in control but a little weaker than it was earlier this week. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy each day but temperatures will slowly ease back some into the middle and upper 90s. Overnight temperatures will remain in the middle and upper 70s. The forecast looks dry although one of the long range models brings another slight chance for rain into the forecast on Wednesday so I've added a slight chance in my forecast package this morning.

Another Hot Day For The Big Country:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Another hot day ahead for the area but there is a slight change in the pattern today and tomorrow. A frontal boundary will stall over the northern counties this afternoon and evening.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms late this afternoon and through the night over the Northern Big Country, north of the U.S. 380 corridor. Hot and dry weather conditions will continue for the rest of the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and Northern Concho Valley. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy today with highs around 100° and overnight lows will drop into the middle 70s.

* Looking Ahead: The high remains the dominating feature over the south central and southeast part of the country so part of Texas will remain generally hot and dry. Highs will remain around 100° into the weekend and upper 90s/low 100s for next week. The core of the high will shift eastward into next week so the highs will drop back into the middle and upper 90s by the middle of next week.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets.
