Tad Cooler For Some, Storms For Others:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* As the forecast models yesterday morning and afternoon predicted a complex of thunderstorms developed in the Panhandle and South Plains and moved down across the Big Country overnight. Some areas picked up a nice rain overnight while others not so much with this complex. At the time I am writing this blog update light to moderate rain, with some imbedded lightning in spots, continues across the Southern & Eastern Big Country, the Northern Concho Valley and the Northern Heartland along and ahead of a weak frontal boundary that will continue to drift around the region today. This boundary should stall just to the south of Interstate 20. Areas along and south of this boundary will see a few spotty showers and thunderstorms today, while areas to the north should be dry and a tad cooler thanks to a north and northwest wind. I'm leaving in a 20 percent chance for storms today for areas along and south of a Sweetwater - Abilene - Eastland line today, with the best chances over the Concho Valley and Heartland. Temperatures will range from the middle 90s across the northern counties to upper 90s and low 100s on the other side of the boundary in the southern counties.

* Late Week & Weekend: The slightly cooler temperatures today will not stick around long as we should slowly warm back up on Thursday. The rest of week and into the weekend will feature hot and humid weather each day with a partly cloudy sky and highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Heat Index values in the afternoons will range between 100-105. Overnight lows remain warm in the middle and upper 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.
