Cold Front Brings In Major Changes:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited:

* Mostly clear and warm out there early this morning but this will be a day of major weather changes for West Central Texas. We'll start off mostly sunny and will warm up as normal into the morning period. A cold front will move into the northern counties by midday and will march south and southeastward across the Big Country into the afternoon and evening. Clouds will be on the increase as well by midday. Temperatures are the challenge today for this forecast as it will be cooler to the north of the front, warmer to the south and the areas along the I-20 corridor will be range in the middle before the front arrives. I am going to say temperatures this afternoon will range from 83-98 across West Central Texas. I think the Abilene area will warm into the lower to mid 90s by early afternoon before the front hits and drops the numbers into the afternoon and evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop along and behind the front later today, tonight and a few still around on Wednesday. Winds will pick up really quickly this afternoon out of the north and northwest between 20-30 miles per hour. Much cooler tonight with lows in the middle 60s and cooler on Wednesday with highs only into the lower to middle 80s, with clouds around and a cool north wind.

* Late Week/Weekend: Nice weather for the end of the week and the first half of the weekend with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s with a few clouds around. There is a slight chance for rain on Sunday and into Monday of early next week. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.
