More Spotty Storms Today, Hot & Humid:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Complex of thunderstorms is skirting the Big Country to the north of the U.S. 380 corridor early this morning bringing some rain to Knox, Haskell, Stonewall and Throckmorton County. There are several outflow boundaries from these storms and other storms from yesterday afternoon and last night around the area. Hot and humid weather will help generate more scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening across the region along these boundaries. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy day across the area with highs in the upper 90s and the lower 100s. The heat index in the afternoon will range between 100-105 which is close but below advisory criteria.

* The upper high is centered to our west and this puts our region in a northwesterly flow around the high. Models are developing a complex of thunderstorms over the Texas Panhandle and across Western Oklahoma tonight and dropping that complex toward the Big Country overnight. If this complex holds together we could see some decent and much needed rain tonight. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy night with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

* Late Week/Weekend: We have a slight chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday with highs in the upper 90s. The rest of week will feature hot and humid weather each day with a partly cloudy sky and highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Heat Index values in the afternoons will range between 100-105. Overnight lows remain warm in the middle and upper 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.
