Good Afternoon

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner

Thanks for stopping by. As of 2:30pm, very light precipitation is showing up on Triple Doppler mainly west of a line from Roby to Sweetwater to San Angelo, but it's moving east/northeast.

We have a Winter Storm Watch in effect basically along and north of I-20, including Abilene, Sweetwater and east to DFW. The watch goes through Friday morning.

I feel we are on the temperature borderline dictating whether we see a cold rain or some sleet mixing in. I'm inclined to believe that it will be a mix of rain and sleet this afternoon into the evening, then be more of a sleet event as the temperature cools later tonight.

The forecast models for the overnight actually warm the temperature both here at the surface and aloft up to 5,000 feet which is the temperature layer that controls the form of precipitation we see. IF that's the case, we could end up with a mix of rain and sleet, which freezes enough to cause patchy ice issues.

As of now, I'd plan to see some ice along and north of a line from San Angelo to Coleman with the best chance for icy roads along and north of I-20.

This system continues to evolve so check back to this blog for updates and watch KRBC News at 5, 6 and 10 for updates.

Watch West Texas Today at 6:00am Friday with Meteorologist Brandon Rector and Stephanie Harris and Darcy Dupree reporting live on the latest weather conditions.
