Scattered Storms, Warm & Muggy Today:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Scattered thunderstorms continue early this morning across the Big Country. A frontal boundary remains stalled along the U.S. 180 corridor and scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed early this morning as the low level jet has helped initiate development along the boundary. The activity this morning should slowly move east and weaken some. As we get daytime heating going scattered thunderstorms will again redevelop across the region. A few storms could be strong, heavy rainfall is possible too. Clouds should break some this morning with some sunshine breaking out into the day. Highs in the upper 80s and the lower 90s. A few storms still around this evening, partly cloudy with lows in the lower 70s and a few upper 60s where it rains.

* The boundary lifts northward and gradually washes out into the week as high pressure builds in across the region. Hot and humid weather ahead with highs in the middle to upper 90s and a dry forecast. Partly cloudy into late week and then mostly sunny over the weekend. Overnight lows remain in the lower to middle 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the very hot weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.

* Summer Climate Outlook: The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting slightly below average temperatures during the next three months across most of the northern part of the state including the Big Country. There are equal chances that we could be above average or below average on rainfall this summer.
