Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Mostly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms today across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley today. Locally heavy rainfall is possible with storms that develop. Otherwise expect a mostly cloudy and humid day with highs ranging from the lower to upper 80s. Scattered storms will still be possible tonight across the area with lows in the upper 60s/low 70s under a mostly cloudy sky.
* Keeping rain chances in the forecast for the rest of the week and into the holiday weekend as moisture from Alex streams across Texas. Models bring what moisture is left after the landfall of Alex by the weekend into West Central and Southwest Texas. Combined with daytime heating there is a slight chance for storms. Highs warm back into the upper 80s and lower 90s with overnight lows in the uppper 60s. There is a slight chance for storms over the holiday weekend.
* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the very hot weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.

More Storms Around Today:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Scattered thunderstorms will continue in the forecast across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley today. Otherwise just cloudy intervals with temperatures staying below normal today into the upper 70s and the lower 80s. Scattered storms will still be possible tonight across the area with lows in the upper 60s under a mostly cloudy sky.
* Keeping a slight chance for thunderstorms in the forecast for the rest of the week and into the holiday weekend as Alex makes expected landfall (based on data this morning) just south of Brownsville. The forecast models take the system northwestward toward the northern areas of Mexico. Models bring moisture into West Central and Southwest Texas. Combined with daytime heating there is a slight chance for storms. Highs warm back into the upper 80s and lower 90s with overnight lows in the uppper 60s. My confidence in the forecast for late week and the weekend is just a guess at this point. We'll have to watch the track of Alex and for now I will say expect the weekend forecast to change as we get new data and Alex gets closer to landfall.
* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the very hot weather. Afternoon highs will be below normal in the 80s and lower 90s with afternoon relative humidities rather high in the 50 percent range. A warming and drying trend is expected mid to late next week but the extended forecast is quite uncertain at this time due to Tropical Storm Alex.

Few Storms Around Today, Hot This Weekend:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* A weak disturbance will continue to drift westward across West Central Texas today. With daytime heating and this disturbance giving some lift there is another slight chance of a thunderstorm on this Friday across the area but only about a 20 percent chance. Where the storms develop they can produce heavy rainfall as they slowly drift westward. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy sky with highs in the middle 90s with a few upper 90s possible. Overnight lows in the lower to middle 70s.
* Weekend: Partly cloudy and dry over the weekend but temperatures will get pretty hot again with everyone into the upper 90s each day. Overnight lows will hold into the middle 70s.
* Next Week: Models are still bringing a cold front down into the South Plains/Northern Big Country of West Texas early next week. With plenty of moisture around and the front providing lift I'm keeping a slight chance of a storm or two in the forecast. With the rain and cloud cover highs should be a bit cooler into the lower to middle 90s.
More Clouds & An Isolated Storm or Two:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Another hot day but some slight changes in the forecast over the next few days. A disturbance that has been moving westward along the Gulf Coast has made its way into Texas and will continue to move westward. With daytime heating and this disturbance giving some lift there is a slight chance of a thunderstorm for the next couple of days but only about a 10 to 20 percent chance at most. Otherwise expect a partly cloudy sky with highs in the middle 90s with a few upper 90s possible. Overnight lows in the lower to middle 70s. Partly cloudy with an isolated storm possible on Saturday and just partly cloudy and hot on Sunday with highs in the middle to upper 90s and overnight lows in the middle 70s.
* Next Week: Models are still trying to bring a cold front down into the South Plains of West Texas early next week and also trying to develop a low pressure area in the vicinity. I'm keeping a slight chance of a storm or two and still lowering highs a bit into the lower to middle 90s. It looks like the front may not make it too far south so the best rain chance will be across the northern counties of the Big Country for now. Will keep an eye on this the next few days for any changes.
Another Hot & Dry Day:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Hot and dry weather pattern still in place across West Central Texas. Abundant sunshine today with highs back into the upper 90s and overnight lows in the middle 70s. Cloud cover will slowly pick back up for the late week as southeasterly flow begins to pick back up and daytime heating will allow for development of fair weather cumulus clouds. Highs will remain in the middle to upper 90s for the late week with overnight lows in the middle 70s. The forecast remains dry into the late week. Some spots may hit the triple digits at times the next few days.
* The Weekend: Not much happening for the upcoming weekend. Partly cloudy on Saturday and Sunday with highs in the middle to upper 90s and overnight lows in the middle 70s. We remain dry for the weekend with no rain chances.
* Next Week: Models are bringing a cold front into West Texas early next week and also trying to develop a low pressure area in the vicinity. With this pattern I've added a slight chance of a storm or two and also lowered highs a bit into early next week into the lower to middle 90s Will keep an eye on this the next few days because not too confident the front will make it as far south as the model runs are suggesting this morning.
* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the very hot weather. Scattered Storms, Warm & Muggy Today:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Scattered thunderstorms continue early this morning across the Big Country. A frontal boundary remains stalled along the U.S. 180 corridor and scattered showers and thunderstorms have developed early this morning as the low level jet has helped initiate development along the boundary. The activity this morning should slowly move east and weaken some. As we get daytime heating going scattered thunderstorms will again redevelop across the region. A few storms could be strong, heavy rainfall is possible too. Clouds should break some this morning with some sunshine breaking out into the day. Highs in the upper 80s and the lower 90s. A few storms still around this evening, partly cloudy with lows in the lower 70s and a few upper 60s where it rains.
* The boundary lifts northward and gradually washes out into the week as high pressure builds in across the region. Hot and humid weather ahead with highs in the middle to upper 90s and a dry forecast. Partly cloudy into late week and then mostly sunny over the weekend. Overnight lows remain in the lower to middle 70s.
* Summer Climate Outlook: The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting slightly below average temperatures during the next three months across most of the northern part of the state including the Big Country. There are equal chances that we could be above average or below average on rainfall this summer.

Muggy With Scattered Storms Today:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Another very warm and humid morning across West Central Texas to start our Friday. An upper level system will work north and eastward out of Mexico across West Central Texas into the day today. The dryline will sharpen to our west into the afternoon. The disturbance will provide some lift and some storms this afternoon. The system will also help storms develop along the dryline. Another factor will be high dewpoints and of course the afternoon heating. A few storms could go severe briefly but organized severe weather not expected and the SPC as of this morning has taken our area out of the 'Slight Risk' category. The best chances for rain will be across the western half of the Big Country but still a slight chance of a storm in the late afternoon and evening across the rest of the area. Highs today east of U.S. 277 will range from the lower to middle 90s while west of U.S. 277 highs will be in the middle to upper 90s. A few storms are still possible this evening with overnight lows into the lower to middle 70s.
* Weekend: Partly cloudy, warm and still humid with highs in the lower to middle 90s and overnight lows in the lower to middle 70s. There is a slight chance for a few thunderstorms mainly across the far western half of the Big Country on Sunday near the dryline.
* Next Week: Models are bringing a frontal boundary into the Big Country early next week and stalling that front in our area. There are chances for thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday. Highs will be cooler into the upper 80s and the lower 90s with overnight lows into the upper 60s. The weather looks dry for Wednesday.
We are starting to see "abnormally dry conditions' returning to parts of the Heartland and Central Texas. A Stray Storm Today, Warm & Humid:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Cloudy start this morning but we'll become partly cloudy later this morning. We have several outflow boundaries from the storms yesterday and last night hanging around the region so with daytime heating we'll probably see a storm or two develop this afternoon. Storms will not be quite as widespread as we saw yesterday. Highs today into the lower and middle 90s. A few evening storms still around, otherwise partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
* Warming up for tomorrow and into the weekend with upper 90s tomorrow and into the triple digits over the weekend. We'll keep an eye on the record book as we will be flirting with record high temperatures over the weekend. One thing of note is the rain we have seen will keep tempatures a degree or two cooler which is normally the case in hot weather situations when it rains. Having said that it will still be very warm with highs between 100-105° over the weekend and a bit humid. We should be mostly sunny each day.
* Next Week: Still hot with highs in the upper 90s into early next week and for now the long range forecast looks dry for our area. Lows at night into the lower to middle 70s.
* Drought Information: West Central Texas remains well above normal on rainfall this year so no drought issues here locally at the present time. * Hotter and slightly humid conditions will continue into the week with temperatures gradually warming into the upper 90s and low 100s by the late part of the week. Warm at night with lows in the lower 70s. Expect a partly cloudy sky each day with little in the way of a thunderstorm chances.
* The Weekend: Even hotter temperatures for the upcoming weekend with highs between 100-105° each day under a partly cloudy sky. This looks to be the warmest temperatures we will see so far for 2010 for the upcoming weekend. Forecast looks to remain dry and perhaps a bit humid.
* Drought Information: West Central Texas remains well above normal on rainfall this year so no drought issues here locally at the present time.
