Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Hot and humid on this Memorial Day across West Central Texas with high temperatures climbing into the middle 90s this afternoon under a mostly sunny sky. We'll watch the radar for a very isolated shower or storm that may try to pop up but the rain chance is not looking good. A few clouds tonight with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
* The Week Ahead: Hot and humid conditions will continue into the week with temperatures gradually warming from the middle 90s into the upper 90s and low 100s by the late part of the week. Warm at night with lows in the lower 70s. Again rain chances look very low but we'll keep an eye out if a very isolated storm does develop but the dynamics upstairs (the cap or warm layer of air aloft that inhibits storm development) don't look promising for storm development. Expect a partly cloudy sky each day.
* The Weekend: Even hotter temperatures for the upcoming weekend with highs between 100-105° each day under a partly cloudy sky. This looks to be the warmest temperatures we will see so far for 2010 for the upcoming weekend. Forecast looks to remain dry and perhaps a bit humid.
* Drought Information: West Central Texas remains well above normal on rainfall this year so no drought issues here locally at the present time. Nice, Hot Holiday Weekend Ahead:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Great weather ahead for the Memorial Day holiday weekend as high pressure will remain in control of the weekend forecast. High pressure keeps the air sinking which will suppresses development of cumulus clouds and thus thunderstorms. On the flip side sinking air is also warmer air so temperatures will be hot over the next few days into the middle 90s and lovernight lows into the middle 60s. Expect a mostly sunny sky for Friday to Sunday.
* A cold front will arrive on Monday for Memorial Day but for now we will continue to call for a dry forecast although the models hint a stray shower or storm may try to develop. Highs remain in the lower to middle 90s for Monday.
* Next Week: The high shifts eastward so we should see a few more clouds into the area with temperatures into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Things look dry into the middle of the week but longer range data suggests thunderstorm chances on Thursday and Friday.
* Drought Information: West Central Texas remains well above normal on rainfall this year so no drought issues here locally at the present time. Isolated Storms Today, The Muggy Feel Continues:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Mostly cloudy to start the morning but we'll become partly cloudy as we progress later into the morning and into the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms are possible at any time today but mainly the best chance would be into the afternoon when we get into the peak hours of heating to destablize the atmosphere. A few storms that do develop might produce some small hail and very heavy rainfall. A few of these storms will linger into the evening, then we go mostly cloudy overnight. Highs in the middle to upper 80s with lows tonight in the middle 60s.
* Warmer Temperatures Return: Partly cloudy for the later half of the week across West Central Texas. We will remain dry but the relative humidity values will remain high. Temperatures will warm back into the lower to middle 90s across the area with overnight lows into the middle and upper 60s.
* Memorial Day Weekend: Weather looks nice with partly cloudy and dry conditions but will remain hot with highs in the lower to middle 90s with overnight lows into the upper 60s. The humidity will also remain high across the area.

Scattered Storms in the Tuesday Outlook
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
Humidity, and plenty of it, stays with us through the work week. With all this moisture around, you would think that rain would be more prevalent. However, with the lack of a cold front or upper level disturbance, only isolated areas received rain on Monday.
The dry line is pushed all the way west to the Texas/New Mexico border. It makes a little progress east Tuesday and will likely fire off a couple storms as it did Monday.
The same goes for Wednesday as upper level lows lift out of the Four Corners of the southwest U.S. over the Rockies to the northern states. They should help kick off some West Texas storms again.
The atmosphere undergoes some drying late week into the upcoming weekend, leading to less cloud cover, warmer temperatures and a nice Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Overnight lows in the upper 60's, afternoon highs in the mid to upper 80's through mid-week.
By the end of the week, low 90's each afternoon through the weekend.

Weekend Wind !
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
The warm weather beckons this weekend with highs near 90 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.
For those with plans involving lakes, one small problem ... the wind. Lake wind advisories may be needed this weekend as wind, south or southeasterly, blows from 20 to 30mph with higher gusts.
Rain isn't in the forecast this weekend for the Big Country, although storms are forecast to develop in west and southwest Texas, but should stay west of our area.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible Monday and Tuesday, followed by a 20% chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Temperatures this weekend should be in the upper 60's to 70 in the morning, with low clouds, followed by mainly sunny skies and highs near 90.
Humidity will also be high this weekend, resulting in some sultry but sunny afternoons.

Warm & Breezy Today, A Few T'Storms:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
*** There is a 'Slight Risk' for severe weather this afternoon and early evening for the eastern half of the Big Country and across the Northern Heartland. The area is along and east of U.S. 277 and includes Abilene, Coleman, Brownwood, Eastland, Breckenridge. Large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado are possible with any storms that develop. ***
* Partly cloudy with scattered afternoon thunderstorms for the eastern half of the Big Country and across the Northern Heartland for today. The rest of the area remains dry, warm and breezy. The main storm dynamics will stay up to our north across Texoma where there is a higher chance for severe weather. Our storm chances will depend on the cap breaking in the afternoon as the dryline advances eastward. We have enough dynamics that would support large hail and damaging winds but an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Highs today in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Storms may linger early in the evening in the eastern counties but eventually just partly cloudy and breezy tonight with lows in the lower 60s.
Warmer & Dryer Weather: We settle into a quiet weather pattern for the region for the late part of the week, over the weekend and into the early part of next week. Partly cloudy each day with highs in the lower 90s and overnight lwos into the upper 60s.
* Drought Information: West Central Texas remains well above normal on rainfall this year so no drought issues here locally at the present time. For the latest drought information for the state of Texas please visit the U.S Drought Monitor website by clicking here. The data is updated by the government every Thursday morning around 7:30 AM local time.

Breezy & Warm, A Late Day Storm?
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* A clear and warm morning once again across West Central Texas. Mostly sunny today and warm with high temperatures into the lower to middle 90s. The dryline will advance into the area this afternoon and we'll watch for an isolated late day storm to develop. Just like yesterday the cap (a warm layer of air aloft) is pretty strong and will keep storm development pretty low. It was nearly 7:00 in the evening yesterday before the cap started to weaken and we got storms to develop east of Abilene. Any storm that develops could be strong but our area is not under a severe weather risk today. Again the best chance of an isolated storm would be east of the U.S. 277 corridor late this afternoon and evening. A few clouds tonight with lows in the middle and upper 60s.
* Increasing clouds on Wednesday and still warm with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. There is a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm across the area. Still looking rather wet for the later half of the week and into the weekend. Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms for Thursday - Sunday. A few storms could be strong and possibly severe during this period. Cooler with highs in the 70s and lows into the 50s.

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
*** There is a slight risk for a severe thunderstorm or two this afternoon and evening across the eastern half of the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. The main threat is large hail. ***
* Mostly cloudy and rather warm this morning across the area this morning. The clouds will break some today allowing some sunshine and for temperatures to warm into the lower 90s across the area. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening. Partly cloudy and mild tonight with lows in the middle 60s.
* Thunderstorms: The cap (a warm layer of air aloft) is pretty strong and will keep development of most storms at bay this afternoon and evening. Say It Isn't So !!!
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
If I could guarantee sunshine and perfect temperatures every single weekend, I would. Believe me, I would.
So it is with heavy heart that I bring you bad news for Saturday .... less sunshine and cool weather. Sure, we had a high of 92 on Thursday ... and temperatures are suppose to be warm this time of year ... but an interesting thing happens this weekend.
A high pressure area is going to tap into some cool air across the Plains and deliver it to the Big Country Friday night and Saturday. Clouds should also develop by sunrise Saturday morning .. and with cool temperatures being trapped under clouds ... it simply won't warm up much on Saturday.
Bottom line - upper 40's in the morning (low 50's south of Abilene) to the low 60's Saturday afternoon (mid 60's south of Abilene). Wind coming in from the east at 10 to 20 will keep a chill in the air all day Saturday.
Things begin to change Saturday night as a push of Gulf moisture makes its way north. Lows in the low to mid 50's can be expected. Mother's Day Sunday we should have some showers in the area as highs get a little warmer in the mid 70's.
The influx of Gulf moisture and south wind continues Sunday night as lows in the mid 60's return for a rapid warmup. Some showers possible again Sunday night, can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm.
And how is 90 degrees for Monday? Plus, the dry line (a possible thunderstorm producer) will be in the area so late Monday afternoon, if ingredients fall into place, a couple thunderstorms could develop. If they do, it will be sudden and spectacular ... so keep an eye to the sky late Monday afternoon, just in case.
Take care, enjoy the weekend ... keep the jacket handy!!

Hot Weather Through Thursday
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ....
As I write this on Tuesday night, the Orlando Magic are crushing Atlanta 91-47 in the NBA Playoffs.
What does that have to do with weather? Nothing, except Orlando is hot, just like our temperatures are going to be Wednesday and Thursday.
I'm forecasting a low in the upper 50's Wednesday morning. Temperatures warm to near 80 by the noon hour, then to 90 by late afternoon.
There will be a north wind on Wednesday, but it won't have any impact on our temperatures.
Thursday looks to be our hottest day with highs in the upper 90's. The, a dry cold front sweeps through on Friday, knocking out the heat for a couple of days with highs in the 70's Friday and Saturday.
By Saturday night, a slight chance for rain and thunderstorms return to the forecast as a warm front returns northward through the area. A few showers or storms isolated around the area on Mother's Day Sunday, but most won't be affected by the rain.
Stay safe in the heat, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and wear the sunscreen to protect the skin.

Short Term Heat Wave Begins:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Another nice, cool morning across West Central Texas with temperatures into the 40s and lower 50s despite a bit of a breeze out there. Sunny, breezy and getting warmer today as high temperatures climb into the upper 80s and the lowr 90s on this Tuesday. Clear tonight and milder with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
* A weak frontal boundary drops into the area tomorrow but nothing major with this other than a brief wind shift which might cut temperatures a degree or two. With high pressure still in control I think we still get a little warmer tomorrow and I am forecasting middle 90s for most areas. The hottest day will be on Thursday when everyone reaches the upper 90s and I think some areas may see their first 100° day of 2010! Lows at night stay warm in the upper 50s and lower 60s. A cold front arrives Thursday night and Friday morning knocking the heat wave out of here and cooling us down to below normal for May highs into the 70s and cooling overnight lows back into the low 50s.
* The Weekend: Partly cloudy on Saturday with highs in the middle 70s and still a few clouds in the area Saturday night with lows in the upper 50s. Isolated Storms Today, Turning Hot & Breezy This Week
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* A cool start this morning with temperatures in the 40s and 50s across the area. Partly cloudy and warm today with highs in the upper 70s and the lower 80s across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. A weak system/frontal boundary will work across the area and shift our wind to the northwest later today. The associated low will track just to our north across Texoma and the Northern Big Country. We could see an few isolated showers or perhaps an isolated storm this afternoon. Clouds thin out tonight as we become mostly clear and cool with lows around 50.
* The Week Ahead: Sunny, breezy and hot weather are the main headlines for West Central Texas as we head into the week. High pressure will be in control of our weather and the jet stream goes zonal (west to east) which will cut off any systems from the north. Highs will climb to around 90 on Tuessday and the middle/upper 90s for Wednesday and Thursday. The high will weaken by Friday allowing a front to finally drop into the area and cool us back into the 70s for highs on Friday. A southwest wind later this week will keep dry air in place which means no available moisture for the front to work with on Friday when it arrives. Lows at night will hold into the 50s and 60s.
* The Weekend: The front on Friday should slowly lift back northward as a warm front over the weekend as temperatures warm back into the 80s by late weekend. There is a slight chance for a few thunderstorms in the forecast over the weekend but only a small chance as we remain partly cloudy. Lows will hold into the 50s each night.
* Next Week: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions expected each day next week with a gradual warming trend as highs stay well into the 80s and overnight lows in the 50s. Model data this morning suggesting we remain dry for next week.
* Drought Information: West Central Texas remains above normal on rainfall this year so no drought issues here locally at the present time.
