Fantastic Weekend

Good Evening from Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…..

I hope you like summer because it has returned for the next few days! Highs will remain in the 90’s until beginning of next week with Mostly Sunny skies, lows reaching into the mid to upper 60’s. A ridge that will sit over us will cause these warmer than normal temperatures and Southerly winds between 10-15 mph. This pattern looks like it will continue at least until the beginning of the work week.

This High pressure system should begin to move towards the eastern United States towards the end of the week which might let us bring temperatures down just a few degrees into the mid 80’s towards the next weekend, low will continue to be in the mid 60’s.

Get out enjoy this last bit of Summer and have a great rest of the weekend!

October Will Start Off Toasty

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

The warm temperatures returned to the Big Country today as highs reached the upper 80s to low 90s across the area. A little more moisture returned as well with dewpoints getting into the 50s, so it didn't feel quite as comfortable as yesterday.

An upper level high pressure ridge will build into the central and eastern portions of the country this weekend and early next week. It looks to remain in place through at least next Friday. This means we will have mostly sunny skies and dry conditions for the next seven days. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s with lows in the mid to upper 60s.

Have a super Saturday!

Summer like weekend!

Good Friday Morning! From Your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…..

Temperatures overnight got a bit chilly reaching into the low 50’s in the early morning hour. The cold front that moved through yesterday morning kept High temperatures only into the 70’s yesterday but Sunny skies still persisted because of the dry air we still have in the Big Country.

Today those temperatures will begin a warming trend reaching into the mid to upper 80’s tonight with lows in the mid 60’s. It will be a beautiful night for Friday night football. Tomorrow and Sunday we will reach into the low 90’s for highs making it feel more like Summer than Fall. It will be an overall great weekend to get out and enjoy that pool once last time.

I hope you enjoy sunny weather because it looks like it is going to continue for the next seven days. A ridge, which means a High pressure system, will sit pretty over the Western United States into mid next week. This meaning we should see Sunny skies, temperatures in the upper 80’s for highs and lows into the mid 60’s. Winds could continue to blow between 10-15 mph from the South. Sadly enough, it doesn’t look like there is any chance of rain.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thursday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had much cooler temperatures today thanks to the cold front that moved through the area this morning. Highs were mainly in the 70s. A weak upper level disturbance caused a few showers and thunderstorms in Mitchell, Coke, and Runnels counties.

Tomorrow looks to be a pleasant and warmer day. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s under sunny skies. It may be breezy at times with winds from the south-southwest at 10 to 15 mph.

An upper level high pressure ridge will move into the region from the west this weekend and remain in place through the middle of next week. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will likely be in the low 90s. The first half of next week looks warm too with highs in the upper 80s. Unfortunately, rain chances are pretty much non-existent for the next seven days.

We have our ninth named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Tropical Storm Isaac is 635 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. It has 45 mph sustained winds according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. The latest path projection has it staying out to sea and passing Bermuda to the east.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Morning Update!

Good Morning Everyone! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

The cold front is passing through our area, a little slower than had been expected but still will be fully through the Big Country by the end of the morning. Because of the passing we have calm winds but those will be changing towards the NE as the front does pass and Gusts could get up to 20 mph or high by the afternoon hours. Temperatures will not rise much today only reaching the mid to upper 70’s. Overnight lows will be getting chilly into the 50’s but the winds will quickly change back to the South overnight bring back the dry and hot air.

Temperatures tomorrow should get back into the mid 80’s with the winds S/SW at 10-15 mph. As a Ridge develops over the Western part of the US we should begin to see temperatures above normal for the weekend reaching into the high 80’s with lows sticking in the mid 60’s. Sunny skies should dominate throughout the seven day forecast.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Wednesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We returned to summer-like conditions today with highs in the 90s across the Big Country. A few showers and thunderstorms fired up along a surface trof this afternoon. Extreme southern Coleman and Brown counties did see a little bit of this rain, but the bulk of it was south of the viewing area.

A cold front will move through the area overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. A stray shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out, but our chance looks to be less than slight due to a lack of moisture. Lows tonight should be in the low to mid 50s while highs will only make it into the low to mid 70s for Thursday. We can expect breezy conditions with the passage of the front.

Below average temperatures should continue on Friday with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. It looks to be a pleasant day with mostly sunny skies.

An upper level high pressure ridge will build into the region this weekend and hang around through at least the middle of next week. Above average temperatures should return with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Wednesday Morning Update

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Temperatures Yesterday did reach the high 80’s and the winds started to pick up especially overnight with gusts reaching over 30 mph. Today temperatures will continue to rise and reach just into the 90’s with lots of winds and lots of Sun.

Tonight the cold front will begin to pass through our viewing area, as it does winds will begin to change from our dry warm southwesterly to north northwest but still continuing to be breezy staying at 5 -15 mph, tonight and tomorrow being the strongest with gusts again into the 30 mph. Temperatures will be dropping as the polar air moves through and lows should get down to the mid 50’s overnight. There will not be a lot of rain associated with this front because of our lack of moisture from those dry winds. Right now the chance is less than slight meaning less than 10 percent, which means maybe a stray shower but nothing looking to likely. The front should fully push through in the morning hours of Thursday only pushing highs into the mid 70’s.

The cold air will stick around through Friday and then we will gradually begin to warm back up to normal or a little above normal with highs reaching into the mid to upper 80’s and lows in the mid 60’s. We are expecting a little more moisture coming in after the front because the deep trough that has been over us will begin to move east. This moisture right now is not looking to produce rain but it may give us a chance for a cloud or two which we haven’t seen to often this week.

Have a Wonderful day everyone!

Tuesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We started off cool again this morning with temperatures in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Highs this afternoon reached the mid 80s to 90 which is above average for this time of year.

The high pressure system that has sat in our region for the past couple of days will move out tomorrow. Skies will be mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 90s.

A cold front is expected to arrive in the area tomorrow night and move through the area Thursday morning. Our chance for rain looks to be less than slight with this front due to a lack of moisture. Skies should be mostly sunny on Thursday with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

A warming trend will begin on Friday and continue into early next week. Highs are expected to be in the low 80s for the end of the work week and back into the upper 80s on Monday.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Morning Update

Good Tuesday Morning, from your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Yesterday was still a cooler day across the Big Country with a high only hitting at 80 and low at 48, but with lots of sunshine it was still a beautiful day. Today we will see a warming trend for next two days reaching close to 90 today and into the low 90’s tomorrow. We will also see an increase in winds with Gusts picking up to 20 mph today and tomorrow up to 30 mph. Otherwise across the Big Country, lots of sunshine with lows tonight staying in the mid 60’s, SW winds 5-15 mph.

Wednesday night our next front will move through decreasing our temperatures to the high 70’s, and lows into the lower 50’s for Thursday and Friday. It doesn’t look like we will have much rain associated with this front because of the dry air that will be dominating. Saturday through Monday our temperatures should begin to warm back up to highs in the mid 80’s and lows in the mid 60’s with Partly Cloudy skies.

Have a great Tuesday!

Monday, September 25, 2006

Monday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was a picture perfect day across the Big Country. We started off cool this morning with lows in the mid 40s to 50, and ended up a little warm this afternoon with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s.

The warming trend looks to continue for the next couple of days with high pressure remaining in control over the region. Skies should remain mostly sunny with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s.

A cold front is expected to arrive in the area Thursday morning. We have a slight chance for rain Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. The reason the rain chance is slight is due to the lack of moisture that will be in place. It looks like there won't be enough moisture for a lot of rainfall, but maybe just enough for a few isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs on Thursday will be in the mid to upper 70s under partly cloudy skies.

Mostly sunny skies are expected Friday through Monday with highs ranging from the upper 70s for the end of the work week and upper 80s for the start of the next one.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Cooler Temperatures This Weekend

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was another hot and breezy day across the Big Country with highs reaching the low to mid 90s this afternoon. A little bit more moisture was in place today, but not enough to see any rainfall. Remember that the fall season officially begins tonight at 11:03 p.m.

One the first full day of fall we will have a cold front make its way into the area by the morning and pass through by late afternoon. There is a slight chance for some isolated showers and thunderstorms with the best shot for rain being in the eastern portions of the viewing area. That is where the best moisture build-up will be. Highs should be cooler in the low to mid 80s.

Sunday through Tuesday are expected to be pleasant with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s.

Another cold front may affect us late Wednesday and into Thursday. The chance for rain is slight to 20%. Highs look to cool down into the 70s for Thursday and next Friday.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Morning Forecast!

Good Morning Everyone! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

Yesterday with the front passing through we warmed up temps and reached the low 90’s with a few showers early in the day. With the winds continuing to blow from the South West the temperatures will get even warmer staying in the low to mid 90’s today. We should see mostly sunny skies but with continuing breezy conditions from 15-25 mph.

Fall officially starts tomorrow with the Autumn Equinox and it looks like our area will begin it will “fall like” weather. Overnight temperatures should get down to the upper 60’s with clear skies. Winds will begin to change from the SSW to the NNW and through out Saturday come from the North. This will be because of our next Cold Front that will be moving through Friday night into Saturday. After the front passes temperatures will drop to highs only in the lower 80’s to upper 70’s. Sunday being the coldest right after the front passes. Lows will drop to upper 50’s so you might need a jacket if you will be outside at all during the evening. There will be a slight chance for a shower with the front but because of the dryline that just pushed through bringing dry air we don’t have a lot of moisture, one of the ingredients needed to boost the chances for rain. The best chance would be for our Eastern viewing area where moisture from the gulf has been pushed up.

The next week looks enjoyable with temperatures staying in the mid 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s with Mostly Sunny skies.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Happy Fall!

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Thursday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was a hot and windy day across the Big Country as highs reached the upper 80s to mid 90s. There was a little bit of rain in the area overnight last night, but nothing developed this afternoon. A trace of rainfall was picked up at Abilene Regional Airport before dawn this morning.

We can expect another hot and windy day tomorrow. Highs should be in the low to mid 90s with winds from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. The fire danger will be elevated tomorrow so please be careful. Also, use caution if driving a high profile vehicle.

Beginning tomorrow night and into the day Saturday, moisture is expected to build back into the region. A cold front is expected to move through the Big Country on Saturday. Depending on how much moisture is in place, we could see some showers and thunderstorms. The chance for rainfall Friday night through Saturday night is slight. The best shot at precipitation is going to be in the eastern portions of the viewing area. That is where the best moisture should be. Highs on Saturday will reach the low to mid 80s.

Sunday through early next week should be pleasant with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70 to mid 80s.

Hurricane Helene has weakened today according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. Maximum sustained winds are 80 mph. It is passing Bermuda to the east and should stay out to sea and not affect any more landmasses.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Morning Update

Good Thursday Morning! From Your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly….

Temperatures stayed just at normal yesterday reaching into the mid 80’s. It was beautiful with Sunny skies but if you were outside at all you probably realized the strength of the wind with gusts getting up to over 30 mph.

This morning a front is pushing through popping up a few scattered showers though mainly out of our area. We are still very dry with most of the moisture staying off to the west. As this pushes through more dry air will move in behind it and temperatures will increase into the 90’s. We will still have strong winds through the day with winds at 20-30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity will decrease staying between 10-20% with the highest only up to 30% in the western counties. Wind advisories are in effect until this evening at 7 pm and because of that and the dry air they have elevated the fire danger to a fire watch. Make sure to take extra precaution if you will be outdoors.

Tomorrow will be sunny with temps even warmer reaching the mid 90’s and lows near 70 degrees. We will still see strong Southwest winds between 15-25 mph. Friday night there will be another chance for a shower right before our next cold front pushes through. Early Saturday the front should drive through bring with it a chance for a shower and cooler temperatures. Winds will change from the Southwest winds which has been bringing the hot dry temperatures, to the North/Northwest and eventually becoming Northeast and decreasing to around 10 mph. Behind the front we will see sunny skies with enjoyable temperatures sticking into the lower 80’s for highs and low’s into the high 50’s.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Wednesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was another beautiful, but breezy day across the area. Highs were in the mid to upper 80s which is a little above average for this time of year. Dewpoints have risen a little into the upper 40s to mid 50s, but it still felt comfortable.

Moisture should continue to build into the area tonight and early tomorrow. An upper level low to our nortwest may push an upper level disturbance over the area tonight and a dryline through the Big Country tomorrow. The chance for rain is only slight because we may not build enough moisture into all levels of the atmosphere before these lifting mechanisms arrive. Once the dryline passes us by early in the day, the chance for rain will be over for a little while.

Tomorrow will be a hot and windy day with highs in the low 90s. Winds are expected to be from the southwest at 20 to 30 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 40 mph. Because of this most of the area is under a Wind Advisory and Fire Weather Watch. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Stephens and Eastland counties for Thursday. Everyone should be careful tomorrow with the elevated fire danger.

The hot and windy conditions will likely continue on Friday with highs in the mid 90s. It looks like skies will be mostly sunny.

Moisture should begin returning to the region Friday night and early Saturday before a cold front arrives. The chance for rain is only slight again because we may not have enough moisture in place to support much rainfall. Skies should be partly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s on Saturday.

Sunday and early next week should be pleasant with highs in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies.

Gordon has weakened to a tropical storm today and should continue to weaken. What is left of Gordon should move over Portugal and Spain later tonight and tomorrow.

Hurricane Helene has weakened a little bit today according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. It has maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. It should make a turn to the north by tomorrow and pass Bermuda to the east.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Wednesday Morning Update

Good Wednesday Morning! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

The past few days in the Big Country have been beautiful and once again today we will have Sunny skies with Temperatures reaching back to normal with Highs in the mid to upper 80’s. The one big change- the wind! It will be very breezy over the next few days as a trough pushes through. We should have warmer overnight lows only getting down to the upper 60’s tonight and tomorrow.

Tomorrow a dryline will be pushing through, it could bring a chance of rain for our very Northern counties but most likely to the Western part of Texas. With the limited moisture it is not as probable for our area. High’s will become unseasonable warm for Thursday and Friday reaching into the lower 90’s and will continue to have even drier environment and breezy conditions.

Saturday our next Cold Front will push through bringing the temperatures from the 90’s back to below average keeping them in the lower 80’s with lows maybe even tipping into the upper 50’s. There will be a slight chance of rain for Saturday and Sunday but because our environment is very dry, Relative Humidity not even reaching 30%, the chance is limited.

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Tuesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was another pleasant day across the Big Country as temperatures were a little below average for this time of year. Highs were in the low to mid 80s. Comfortable conditions remained with dewpoints in the 40s.

The warming trend continues tomorrow with highs in the upper 80s. Dewpoints will begin to rise into the 50s, so it won't be quite as comfortable as it has been the last couple of days. You'll need to hang on to your hat since breezy conditions are expected.

We will have well above average temperatures on Thursday and Friday with highs in the low 90s. It will continue to be breezy to windy on both days. There is also a slight chance for rain due to the dryline being active. The chance is only slight because it looks as though the best moisture will be in the eastern portions of the state and the best dynamics will be just to our north.

A cold front is expected to arrive on Saturday so the slight chance for rain will continue. Highs should be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Temperatures swing back down below average for Sunday through Tuesday with mostly sunny skies.

Hurricane Gordon has weakened today. According to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center its maximum sustained winds are 85 mph. It will continue on an eastward track and move over the Azores tonight.

Hurricane Helene has weakened a little bit today as well. Its maximum sustained winds are 110 mph. The latest path projection from the National Hurricane Center has it moving towards Bermuda, but making a turn to the north and passing the island to the east.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Morning Update

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly...

Temperatures will stay a few degrees below normal for this time of year still while we are still affected by the cold front that moved through Sunday. A High pressure system will be dominating our area and today bringing us very sunny skies with temperatures reaching into the mid 80’s. Tonight we will once again see clear skies with temperatures reaching the higher 50’s.

Tomorrow will once again be a Sunny day with temperatures just at normal, the difference will be the gusty winds brought about by the next Low moving in. Wednesday night the trough from Rockies could bring our next chance for rain although very slight because of the dry air and limited moisture. The best chance would be for our Northern Counties. The biggest impact will be the winds, with wind gusts getting as strong as 30 mph Thursday. Temperatures should stay warm from the dry line with even significantly drier air. Highs Wednesday-Friday will reach into the upper 80’s and lows into the mid 60’s.

As fall officially begins Saturday we should see a bit of a cool down from another weak cold front moving through Friday following right after the last one. It will bring high temperatures back down into the lower 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!!

A Beautiful Start To The Week

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had a picture perfect day across the Big Country as highs only reached the upper 70s to low 80s. This is well below average for this time of year. It also felt very comfortable as dewpoints dropped into the 40s.

Tonight will be another cool night with lows reaching the upper 40s to low 50s. The reason we will drop this low is due to prime conditions for radiational cooling. When you have a dry airmass, light to calm winds and little to no cloud cover, all of the heating of the day is allowed to escape back up into the atmosphere.

Tuesday should be another beautiful and pleasant day with sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 80s.

A warming trend will continue Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Breezy conditions are expected on both days. There is a slight chance of a few isolated showers and thunderstorms due to the dryline possibly moving into the area. The question is whether or not we will have enough moisture back in place before this boundary arrives.

That same question will linger on Friday as a slight chance for more rain continues. A cold front should arrive in the area, but highs should still make it into the upper 80s before it does.

The fall season officially starts on Saturday and it looks like we will begin with highs in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies.

We continue to have two hurricanes in the Atlantic. Neither one looks to be a threat to the U.S. coastline at this time. Hurricane Gordon has maximum sustained winds of 90 mph according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. It should move over the Azores Islands tomorrow night as a tropical storm. Hurricane Helene has maximum sustained winds of 115 mph according to the latest advisory. The latest path projection has it passing Bermuda to the east later this week. We'll continue to keep you updated with these storms.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday Morning Forecast!

Good Monday Morning! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…

We reached a high in the 90’s on Saturday and a low in the 50’s on Sunday showing the polar front that moved through Sunday. The front was definitely more significant then the one we had the week before causing big temperature changes. Yesterday we received plenty of rainfall even causing small flooding in some areas. So once again we are in the plus side for rainfall.

Today look for Mostly Sunny skies with a high reach into the high 70’s and low 80’s in some areas. The low will be in the mid 50’s. Tuesday and Wednesday will also have Mostly Sunny skies with highs getting a little warmer into the 80’s and lows into the 60’s. Thursday will be our next best chance of rainfall with 20% as a little disturbance moves through. Friday to Sunday should stay with highs in the 80’s and a bit cooler lows reaching the high 50’s.

In the tropics we still have two storms in the Atlantic, Gordon and Helene. Both have reached major strength but Gordon is now down to winds of 80 mph’s and will have no effect to the US. Helen has strengthen to a Cat 3 with winds at 120 mph. Right now the storm has no effect to the US but we are still watching the track as it could change over the next few days.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Good Chance For Rain This Weekend

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had a hot afternoon with temperatures getting into the low 90s in the Big Country. It also felt muggy with dewpoints back in the mid to upper 60s. There were a few brief showers in Scurry county earlier today, but that has been it as far as rainfall.

We can expect another hot day tomorrow with highs in the low 90s. With the amount of moisture in place that we have, there is a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm.

Beginning late tomorrow night and through Monday, we can expect showers and thunderstorms across much of the area with the arrival and passing of a cold front. Hurricane Lane in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico will send some tropical moisture in our direction which will only further aid the moisture we have in place. The chance for rain overnight Saturday night into Sunday is 60% with a 30% chance on Monday. There is the potential for some severe storms as well as moderate to heavy rainfall so be careful. The rain will end from north to south through the day on Monday with drier air filtering into the region. Our highs will be in the upper 80s on Sunday and the low 80s on Monday.

We will then dry out and feel more comfortable on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 80s.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Moring Forecast!

Good Friday Morning! Hope you had a wonderful week, here is your morning forecast from your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly~

Conditions looking beautiful for the beginning of your weekend today and tomorrow, highs will reach the low 90’s today and should warm up a bit for tomorrow reaching the mid 90’s, above average for this time of year. The only downside will be windy conditions because of a big trough associated with a low over the Western third of the country, other than that partly sunny skies!

Saturday into Sunday is where the big picture will change- the Low associated with the windy conditions should start to move closer and will bring a slight chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday although most of the rain should be between Sunday and into Monday. Temperatures will drastically drop from Saturday through Tuesday, with almost a 15 degree difference in highs, as the Polar Cold front should pass Sunday night into Monday.

After Tuesday temperatures should begin to warm back towards climo for this time of year with sunny skies associated with the next high and ridge, bringing dry conditions once again.

We are watching two storms in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Helene and Hurricane Gordon. Hurricane Gordon, our first major of the season has began to weaken with winds of down to sustained 110 mph and will have no effect on the US. We are still watching TS Helene as of right now she has sustained winds of 45 mph and is still far out in the Atlantic. What is of concern to us in Texas is Tropical Storm Lane. TS Lane has winds of sustained 65 mph and is forecasted to hit hurricane status before making landfall. With the direction it is moving it could bring added moisture into our own area.

Have a safe and terrific weekend everyone!

Thursday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was another beautiful day across much of the Big Country. Highs were in the 80s this afternoon. We did have some showers and thunderstorms move through the western portions of the area due to an upper level disturbance.

For the rest of tonight and through Saturday there is a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms. There should be plenty of moisture returning to the area and lots of daytime heating with highs in the low 90s.

The best shot at some rain will be on Sunday and Monday. A cold front is expected to arrive during that time. We will have moisture in place already plus more possibly building in due to Tropical Storm Lane. It is expected to make landfall in the Baja California region this weekend. This is a similar situation to what happened over Labor Day weekend as Hurricane John made landfall in the same area while we dealt with a cold front. For now, our chance for rain is 40% with highs in the low to mid 80s on those days. The rain chance may increase and temperatures decrease as we approach the second half of the weekend and early next week.

Tuesday through Thursday look to be pleasant with highs staying in the low to mid 80s.

Hurricane Gordon is our first major hurricane of the season. According to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center its maximum sustained winds are 120 mph. The good news is that it is not expected to affect any landmasses.

Tropical Storm Helene, formerly Tropical Depression Number 8, has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It is expected to maintain its west-northwestward movement and continue gaining strength. At this time, it is not an immediate threat to any landmasses.

Tropical Storm Lane formed off the coast of Mexico. It is currently 430 miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas. It is expected to reach hurricane status in the next 24 hours. The latest path projection from the National Hurricane Center has it making landfall in the Baja region this weekend.
We'll continue keeping you updated on these storms.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Morning Update

Good Thursday Morning! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly

Things are looking spectacular once again for today! With a little more clouds and a little higher temperature it should continue to stay beautiful for at least the next two days. Temperatures should reach the high 80’s with light winds and continued drier air.

Friday we will begin to see moisture come back in but shouldn’t begin to see many showers or thunderstorms until Sunday and Monday. One change we may see Friday is some breezy conditions as an upper level trough begins to come towards or area. The wind will be a warm wind if any. Temperatures should reach its peak on Saturday getting into the lower 90’s and on Sunday we will begin to see the effect of the cold front as it brings temperatures back down to the lower 80’s Sunday and into Monday.

Have a fantastic Thursday!

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

Wednesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

The beautiful weather continued across the Big Country today with highs in the low to mid 80s. Comfortable conditions remained as drier air stayed in the region.

Tomorrow should be another pleasant day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 80s.

More moisture is expected to return by Friday and remain through early next week. Highs will likely reach the low 90s on Friday and Saturday. With this much afternoon heat and dewpoints in the 60s, a stray shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out. Better rainfall chances are expected on Sunday and Monday with the arrival of a cold front. Highs will fall back into the mid to upper 80s on these days.

Tropical Storm Gordon strengthened into Hurricane Gordon today. According to the National Hurricane Center its maximum sustained winds are up to 110 mph. The latest path projection has it moving north and not affecting any landmasses.

Tropical Depression Number 8 has not strengthened today. Its maximum sustained winds remain at 35 mph. It will likely become Tropical Storm Helene in the next day or two as it moves to the west-northwest across the Atlantic Ocean. According to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center it is 445 west-southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands. This means it is way out in the ocean right now and we have plenty of time to watch and see where it will go.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Good Morning -Wednesday Forecast

Good Morning Everyone! From Kristen Connolly your Morning Meteorologist

Yesterday was the start to wonderful weather over the next few days! With high reaching the mid 80’s, low’s into the mid 60’s and no precipitation recorded over the viewing area. The week is half over and it looks like it will stay wonderful for the rest of it…

We will continue to see carbon copy days across the Big Country until around Friday. Sunny skies, lower humidity, and temps starting to climb into the lower 90’s with calm winds will make it feel like summer all over again.

After reaching peak temperatures Saturday we should start to feel a new air mass moving in as our next surface front begins to impact the weather in our region into Sunday. With a cold front temperatures should cool back down to the low 80’s. Our next chance for rain looks like it will hit perfectly to the end of the fair. Precipitation chance will be at 20% from Sunday into Monday.

Have a fabulous day everyone!

Tuesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

It was a beautiful day across the Big Country with highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s this afternoon. No rainfall developed in the area today. There were a few showers and thunderstorms to our south in the Concho Valley though.

The next couple of days look to be pleasant with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Drier air should be fully filtered into the region by then so it will feel comfortable.

Moisture should return by Friday and linger into early next week. Our afternoon highs will warm into the upper 80s to low 90s for Friday and Saturday so some isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible with the heating of the day. A dryline and weak cold front may affect us Sunday and Monday so the slight chance for rain will continue. Highs should cool slightly on those days to the mid and upper 80s.

Hurricane Florence continues to weaken as it moves northeastward in the Atlantic Ocean. It should dissapate as it moves into cooler waters over the next few days.

Tropical Storm Gordon has strengthened today. According to the National Hurricane Center it has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. It is moving north at 7 mph and is expected to continue moving in that direction. This means it will pass well to the east of Bermuda later this week.

Tropical Depression Number 8 formed today. It has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is moving west at 15 mph. It is expected to move to the west-northwest over the next few days. It is currently 195 miles south of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands so it is way out in the Atlantic Ocean right now. We'll continue to keep you updated on this storm as well as Florence and Gordon.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Tuesday Morning Update

Happy Tuesday from your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly!

Yesterday the overall turned out to be pleasant despite a cold front that moved through the region. The cold front did cause some thunderstorms and showers especially in the morning hours in the northern part of the Big Country. Even with the front moving through we managed to maintain highs in the mid to upper 80’s.

Today the cold front is still lingering through leaving a slight chance for a shower or two but for the most part partly cloudy skies with temps reaching once again the mid 80’s. As the cold front pushes forward it will keep the moisture blocked for at least a few days so no moisture around Wednesday and Thursday to cause rain showers. A little bit of colder air from the Plain states will bring just a touch of cooler air but will not last long so temperatures should stay Mid 80’s for Wednesday and Thursday.

Behind the front we should see a small warming trend with Highs beginning to reach near 90 into the weekend. As of right now I don’t seem much moisture coming into play so showers don’t seem as prevalent as they had yesterday.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Monday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Much of the Big Country saw a pleasant day overall. There was a little bit of rainfall near Snyder, Roby, and Aspermont this morning that faded away by lunchtime. A few thunderstorms developed late this afternoon in the southern portions of the viewing area. Highs were in the mid 80s to low 90s despite a weak cold front making its way through the region.

There is a slight chance for more isolated showers and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow. Just enough moisture will be hanging around on Tuesday. Combine that with the heating of the day and outflow boundaries from earlier activity and you have all the ingredients needed for some rain.
Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 60s with highs tomorrow in the mid to upper 80s.

Wednesday and Thursday look to be the best days of the week to go to the West Texas Fair and Rodeo. Highs will still be in the mid to upper 80s, but drier air should have filtered in by then. This means it will feel more comfortable and not as muggy.

High temperatures should warm back up into the upper 80s to low 90s for Friday through early next week. With more moisture expected to return by then, stray showers and thunderstorms can't be ruled out with the heating of the day. Also, the dryline may become active by Sunday causing some rain.

The center of Hurricane Florence moved just west of Bermuda today bringing lots of rainfall and very strong winds to the island. The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center has Florence moving to the north-northeast at 16 mph with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. It is expected to stay out in the ocean at this time.

We have our seventh named storm of the season. Tropical Storm Gordon formed today. The latest advisory on this storm has its maximum sustained winds at 50 mph as it moves west-northwest at 9 mph. It is expected to stay out in the Atlantic Ocean while passing to the east of Bermuda by Friday.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Monday morning weather!

Good Morning! I am Kristen Connolly your new Morning Meteorologist!

We had a satisfactory weekend with cooler temps Saturday and lots of cloud cover. Sunday started out with sunny skies but a few showers and thunderstorms moved through the region into the afternoon and overnight.

Here is a look at the weather for today! We will have a weak cold front moving through the area which will cause some showers with a few thunderstorms around the region. We will keep the rain chances at 40 percent with temperatures hitting the mid 80’s. Other than that we should see mostly cloudy skies across the Big Country. Over night we should see clouds diminishing with a few lingering rain showers keeping the chance around 20 percent. Over night temps should drop into the lower 60’s

Tomorrow we will have a shower or two possible, with the rain chances continuing to diminish and partly sunny skies taking over. The highs should stick once again into the mid 80’s with overnight lows in the lower 60’s.

Wednesday and Thursday are looking to be the best days this week with mostly sunny skies and temperatures beginning to warm up a few degrees continuing into the weekend. So get out to the fair, or play a game of golf and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Through the weekend: will bring the best chance of rain back into the forecast Thursday night and into the weekend as another disturbance moves through. Temperatures should rise a few degrees with highs in the upper 80’s and lows in the upper 60’s.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Thursday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

The warming trend continued today across the Big Country as most locations reached the mid 80s, however Snyder only made it to 81 while Brownwood made it to 88. Comfortable conditions remained as dewpoints were in the upper 40s to upper 50s.

Tomorrow should be another pleasant day with highs in the mid to upper 80s. More moisture is building in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere so expect partly cloudy skies. If you are going to be out at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo or a football game tomorrow night, it should be a nice night with any rain holding off until the overnight hours.

Our upper level pattern begins to shift on Saturday and last through next Thursday. It looks like periodic upper level disturbance will roll through the region. With moisture continuing to build into the area, showers and thunderstorms will be possible. There is a 20% to 30% chance of rain during this time period with the best shot being on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Highs will remain at or below average in the mid to upper 80s.

Tropical Storm Florence continues to make its way across the Atlantic Ocean. According to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, its maximum sustained winds are 50 mph. Florence is expected to reach hurricane strength over the next couple of days. The latest path projection has the storm making a turn to the north on Sunday. This would take it between Bermuda and the east coast of the U.S. We'll continue to keep you updated with this storm.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Pleasant And Comfortable.....For Now

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

The picture perfect weather continued today as highs only managed to reach the low 80s again today after a cool start in the mid to upper 50s this morning. Dewpoints dropped down into the upper 40 to mid 50s this afternoon so it felt very comfortable.

The rest of the shortened work week should remain pleasant. Mostly sunny skies on Thursday should become partly cloudy on Friday. Highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s.

A couple of upper level disturbances should move across the area between Saturday and Monday. This means we could see some showers and thunderstorms on those days. The chance for rain is 20% to 30%. Highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s.

A weak cold front may arrive on Tuesday and keep a 20% chance of rain going through Wednesday. Highs will cool down a little bit into the low to mid 80s.

Tropical Storm Florence has strengthened a little bit today. According to the National Hurricane Center, its maximum sustained winds are 50 mph and its is moving to the west-northwest at 10 mph. Tuesday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

Warmer temperatures returned today as the rain ended and the sun broke through the clouds again. Highs were mainly in the low 80s. Overall, we had some good rainfall over the Labor Day weekend with Abilene Regional Airport picking up 1.51." This puts us over half an inch in the bonus category for where we should be this time of year.

The next couple of days should be warm and comfortable. Highs look to be in the low to mid 80s with dewpoints in the 50s.

By Friday skies should be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s. There is a slight chance for rain as a weak cold front will likely be approaching the area for the weekend.

It looks like you may need to take the rain gear with you this weekend to West Texas Fair and Rodeo. There is a 20% to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs are expected to be in the mid 80s.

That 20% to 30% chance of rainfall will continue early next week with highs still in the mid 80s.

We have our sixth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. Tropical Storm Florence has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. It is currently 895 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands so it is way out in the Atlantic Ocean. The latest path projection has it turning northward before reaching the east coast of the U.S., but that could change. We will continue to keep you updated on this storm.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Saturday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

There was plenty of cloud cover today which helped to keep temperatures cool across most of the Big Country. The southern communties were able to see some sunshine before the clouds rolled in this afternoon. There was a little bit of rain in the northern portions of the area earlier today. Some thunderstorm fired up along the cold front in Coke, Runnels, Coleman, and Comanche. The cold front has now passed through the viewing area, but there are still a few showers hanging around.

We should see more showers and thunderstorms develop overnight as moist air rides over the front and a disturbance may move into the area.
There is a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Coke, Mitchell, Runnels, and Scurry counties until 7 a.m. tomorrow morning due to the potential for heavy rainfall in those areas.

Mostly cloudy skies should continue for the rest of your Labor Day weekend. There is a chance for more showers and thunderstorms due to enough moisture remaining in place and upper level disturbances possibly rolling into the area. Highs will remain below average in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Tuesday and Wednesday look dry with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 80s.

There is a 20% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms Thursday through Saturday. Highs will remain in the mid 80s under partly cloudy skies.

Have a spectacular Sunday!

Friday Night Update

From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...

We had quite a bit of cloud cover over most of the area today. There was even some rainfall in the western and northern portions of the area. A wide range of high temperatures occurred across the area. It was 88 in Snyder while Comanche made it to 100. This was due to mostly cloudy skies in the western viewing area versus mostly sunny in the eastern viewing area.

The chance for rainfall will increase overnight and through the weekend as a cold front moves through the area and stalls just south of us. The chance ranges from 40% to 60% during this time period with the best shot being tomorrow. Some of these showers and storms may contain heavy rainfall so there will likely be ponding on the roadways in some locations. Scurry and Mitchell counties are under a Flash Flood Watch until 7 a.m. Sunday morning. Highs this weekend will likely be in the low to mid 80s at best.

We could see some lingering showers and storms in the area on Labor Day. That chance for rain is 30%. Highs should still be in the low 80s.

Tuesday and Wednesday look dry right now with highs in the mid 80s.

There is another 20% chance of showers and storms Thursday and next Friday. That just happens to be the beginning of the West Texas Fair and Rodeo, so we may be getting our annual shot at rain out of the way early. Highs will probably be in the upper 80s.

Tropical Storm Ernesto made landfall late last night in Long Beach, North Carolina. It has weakend below tropical depression status today, but will still bring lots of rainfall to the east coast tonight and through the weekend.

Hurricane John made landfall near Cabo Del Este tonight. It will remain over and near the Baja California region over the next couple of days. John looks to send a little moisture in our direction. This will combine with the cold front to bring that chance for heavy rainfall.

Have a super Saturday!
