Rainy Saturday Morning
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ....
Rain is falling on the roof of KRBC as of 4:30am this Saturday morning. This is a sound we should get used to for much of the day today here in the Big Country.
Plenty of moisture is interracting with an upper level disturbance moving over our area from the southwest causing thunderstorms to develop. One or two storms may become severe today. The main threat is large hail and damaging wind. Frequent cloud to ground lightning can be expected, along with heavy rainfall.
The storm movement will be toward the northeast. Areas most likely to see rain will be along and east of a line from San Angelo to Sweetwater to Haskell, including Abilene. Areas around Coleman and Brownwood have a higher probability of rain today.
Once this system moves past, the rain should end by mid to late afternoon and push to the east.
Then, get ready for the wind! Warm and windy on Sunday. VERY WINDY on Monday with some gusts up to 30 and 40mph possible. Temperatures in the low to mid 80's Sunday, upper 80's possible on Monday.

More Thunderstorms Possible Saturday !!
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ....
It has been frustrating to say the least ... predicting a good chance for rain, and watching most of it stay to Abilene's northwest or a few showers to the south.
But, we're still in the game, and sticking by our guns with a continued good chance for thunderstorms Saturday.
The storms could come as early as the morning hours ... thanks to an upper level disturbance coming our way from the southwest. The chance for rain is a hefty 70 percent for Saturday, morning and afternoon.
By Saturday night, most of the rain should be east of our area.
Sunday is looking partly cloudy and windy... highs in the low 80's, same for Monday.

Strong Storms Tonight:
Good Morning from KRBC Forecaster John Nolan...
* We're watching the low pressure system move towards the area today. Ahead of it, we'll see partly to mostly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. Slight chances for showers and isolated storms especially west this afternoon. Expect a high near 82.
* Keep your eyes to the sky tonight as the storms roll in. Primetime for storms across the Big Country is between 7PM and 7AM. Main threats will be large hail and damaging winds. We could also see some pretty good rainfall and dangerous lightning. These storms will work their way East overnight and into the morning on Friday. Mild overnight lows in the lower 60's.
* Showers and storms will stick around on Friday. The low pressure area moves North and East into the Central Plains. There will be enough moisture and instability throughout the day to trigger re-development of storms, most likely across the eastern portions of the viewing area. We'll see cooler temperatures on Friday with highs in the mid 70's.
* Still thinking that most games for Friday Night Football will be played. We'll keep an eye on it.
* Looking Ahead: Still a lingering chance for showers as we head into the early part of the weekend. High temperatures will be in the upper 70's to lower 80's. Looks like we'll have a warm start to next week with high temperatures on Monday in the mid-80's. A cold front looks to move into the area by Wednesday; models are showing a fairly significant cool down by the end of next week.

Calm Before the Storm:
Good Morning from KRBC Forecaster John Nolan...
* Pretty pleasant conditions across the area this morning. We had a few showers and storms develop overnight in the far Northeastern portions of the viewing area but they had dissipated by daybreak. Our temperatures will climb to around 80 after a mild start in the upper 50's to around 60 degrees. You can expect Partly Cloudy skies, with an extremely slight chance for a pop up shower or storm, thanks to the stalled out front to our South.
* It looks to be another mild night with lows right around 60 degrees. We will see some cloud cover tonight as well.
* Things get interesting as we head through the day on Thursday. A strong low pressure area over Southern California will move towards the Texas Panhandle. Winds ahead of the system will shift to the South and East bringing in plenty of moisture. We'll see mild temperatures in the lower 80's which will help with the instability of the atmosphere. Expect storms to develop West of the area during the afternoon on Thursday and move their way East into the viewing area Thursday evening and into Thursday night. Some of these storms could be strong to severe.
* The system moves out early on Friday but there we'll still have a slight chance for rain. Right now, weather for Friday Night Football looks pretty good. Temperatures will be a bit cooler, with highs in the upper 70's.
* Another slight chance of rain for the weekend, but temperatures still holding in the upper 70's to lower 80's.

Big Show Expected Thursday Night
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner .....
A stationary front was draped across the southern KRBC viewing area, roughly from San Angelo to Brownwood this evening, but no showers had formed.
There is also an upper level low in southern California which is the key to our next change in weather late Thursday and Thursday night.
As the low begins tracking east tomorrow and Thursday, strong upper level winds will move over our area. This upper level wind causes air to rise rapidly, and pulls moisture into the upper atmosphere where it cools, turns into clouds and eventually, should become thunderstorms.
This is a scenario we commonly see during the Spring storm season. This system is fairly strong and bears watching for a potential of severe thunderstorms, including damaging wind and large hail on Thursday night across a wide area of the Big Country....
Wednesday's weather will be good, with clouds increasing and highs in the upper 70's to low 80's areawide.
Thursday, more humidity in advance of our system, winds increase out of the south, storms build across West Texas and migrate into our area Thursday night.
Most of the rain should be gone by Friday noon, if not sooner.
No really cold air coming our way within the next seven days. Daily highs consistently in the upper 70's to low 80's. Upper 70's are normal for our area this time of year.
Don't forget you can get interactive radar live on your mobile phone on our website www.bigcountryhomepage.com.
Have a great Wednesday !!

Some Clouds and Showers Around:
Good Morning from KRBC Forecaster John Nolan...
* Showers from overnight will dissipate across the area this morning but we'll keep some of the cloud cover. Expect Partly Cloudy conditions with some peaks of sunshine through the afternoon. A weak cold front is pushing South through the area and may be able to touch off some afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms into the evening. We'll be mild with a high near 80 and lows in the mid 50's.
* Wednesday should be Mostly Cloudy with no significant cool down post-cold front. Expect highs near the 80 degree mark and overnight lows into the upper 50's.
* We're watching the low pressure area just off the coast of Southern California to begin to work its way in our direction by Thursday and Thursday night. Our best chance for rain, and possibly some strong thunderstorms, is looking to be Thursday night into Friday morning. It looks like we'll up our rain chance Thursday night to 40%.
* Looking ahead to the weekend: Temperatures are looking to continue the trend of lower 80's, which is slightly above average for this time of year. Maybe a slight chance for some precipitation Saturday and Sunday, but it's still a bit too far out to say with certainty.

Thunderstorms Back in the Forecast
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
I'm writing this at 8:20pm Monday night, watching a line of thunderstorms on Triple Doppler Radar stretching from Snyder to north of Sterling City.
The line is moving east, showing signs of heavy rain, gusty wind, maybe some small hail. If it stays together, it could push into Abilene by midnight.
Our Tuesday weather feature will be the arrival of a weak cold front. In spite of the front not having any significant cold change with it, it will provide enough instability for a few showers and isolated thunderstorms. I'm forecasting a low tonight of 59 and a high Tuesday of 76.
I think Wednesday will be a mostly cloudy day with a high near 78, and we're simply waiting on the next thing to happen.
The next change comes Thursday, with the approach of an upper level low from the Southwest U.S., from Arizona northeastward toward the Texas Panhandle. That upper level high wind spinning through our atmosphere should spin up some thunderstorms anytime from Thursday afternoon, more likely Thursday night, into Friday morning.
And I'll go ahead and throw this out there ... some of the storms may become severe Thursday night, so we'll be here keeping a close eye on that for you.
More stormy weather on Friday but I think storms and rain gone to the northeast in time for Friday night football, at least that's how it looks right now.
We take Saturday off, just partly cloudy and close to 80, then introduce another slight chance for rain Sunday into Monday.
We're still waiting on that first really big and strong cold front to drastically drop temperatures. As of now, it's not to be found through the next ten days or so. The fronts we will see will keep temperatures in the 70's, instead of the 80's.
Take care, thanks for checking out the KRBC Weather Blog.
Randy

Great Start to the Week:
Good Morning from KRBC Forecaster John Nolan...
*A nice way to start the work week with Mostly Clear and mild conditions across the area. Overnight lows where in the 60 degree range, with some areas slightly above and others slightly below. Mostly Sunny skies today. We'll have highs in the mid 80's with a few passing clouds. We can expect another mild night with a few clouds around and lows in the upper 50's to right around 60.
*A weak cold front will move in tomorrow bringing a change in wind direction and cooler temperatures. It looks like this will be a relatively dry cold front. High temperatures behind the front will be in the upper 70's for Tuesday and Wednesday.
*For the rest of the week: We're watching a low pressure area off the coast of California this morning as it moves South and East. By midweek the low starts to push further east, increasing our chances for rain. Expect a slight chance of rain starting Wednesday, especially Wednesday evening. Our best chance for rain looks to be Thursday night and into Friday as the low moves into the Southern Plains. Right now we're looking at about a 30% chance of rain Thursday and Friday, with a slight chance sticking around through the weekend. Temperatures will remain near 80 degrees for daily highs and in the mid to upper 50's for overnight lows.

Another Quiet Weather Week Ahead:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* We dodge the thunderstorm threat last night as the majority of the storms stayed to our north across Texoma and never really moved down into the area. We did see a few isolated storms south of I-20 last night and one strong storm that moved through Knox County. Otherwise it was a quiet night for the area.
* Partly cloudy today and a few degrees cooler across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley with highs ranging from the low to mid 80s. There is a very small chance of an isolated thunderstorm across the Heartland as a weak front continues to drift through the area today. I've only added a 10-percent chance of a storm for Coleman, Brown and Comanche County for today. Mostly clear tonight with lows tonight in the lower to upper 50s.
* The Week Ahead: The weather patter is looking very quiet for the week ahead. Expect a mostly sunny sky for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with highs a bit cooler into the upper 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows will drop into the lower 50s with some upper 40s in spots. Looks like we'll see some clouds return by the upcoming weekend with temperatures a bit warmer back into the lower and middle 80s.

Pleasant Weather Ahead This Week:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* What a morning across West Central Texas! Temperatures at the time I am writing this weather update on the blog are ranging from the middle 40s to the lower 50s across all of the area. We'll see a few clouds around at times today but they should not be as thick as what we saw most of the day on Sunday. Temperatures will be a bit warmer this afternoon as we warm into the middle 70s across the area. Expect another cool and mostly clear night with lows ranging from the middle 40s in the cooler spots with most everyone else ranging from the upper 40s and lower 50s elsewhere.
* The Week Ahead: High pressure to our north and east will remain in control of our weather across West Central Texas. Most of the active weather remains well to our west but we will see some highs clouds at times drift in from the west. Highs this week will range into the lower to middle 80s with overnight lows in the lower to middel 50s. Expect a mostly sunny sky each day.
* Rain Chances: None are expected this week but the models are hinting at slight chances for the very late weekend and into early next week. At this point my confidence in this model data is low so I will not include any rain chances for the upcoming weekend. I will however call for partly cloudy conditions.
* Tropics: For the latest information please visit the National Hurricane Center website by clicking here. The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season will end on November 30th.
