Cool Monday, Warm & Windy Tuesday

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

A northwest wind flow meant chilly weather conditions Sunday and the same wind direction can be expected on Monday, although it should be a little cooler.

We warm up considerably Tuesday but the wind is going to be horrible, so gusty from the southwest that a Fire Weather Watch is already in effect for Tuesday due to the extremely dry weather conditions.

Another cold front arrives Tuesday night or Wednesday morning but with no rain.

Temperatures run near normal for early December Wednesday into Thursday but a little warmer than normal Friday and Saturday.

I haven't included rain in the forecast at all this week.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy and 34. Northwest wind 10 to 15.
Monday: Mostly sunny, near 60. Northwest wind 10 to 15.
Monday Night: Clear and cool, low near 40. Southwest wind 5 to 10.
Tuesday: A Fire Weather Watch for high wind and low humidity, high near 73. Southwest wind 20 to 30.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy and windy, high near 60, gusty north wind.
Thursday: Mostly sunny and 55.
Friday: Mostly sunny and 60.
Saturday: Mostly sunny and 66.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, low 60's.

A Cooler Holiday Weekend is on the Way

FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...

THE WEATHER PATTERN WILL SLOWLY TURN MUCH COLDER OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS AND WE HAVE A CHANCE FOR RAIN OVER THE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY TIME PERIOD.

WEDNESDAY WILL BE WARM BUT YOU'LL NOTICE A GRADUAL INCREASE IN CLOUDS.

THANKSGIVING DAY WILL BE MOSTLY CLOUDY AND, AS A RESULT, A LITTLE COOLER BUT STILL MILD. AS AN UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM APPROACHES FROM THE WEST THURSDAY, A FEW SHOWERS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. RAIN IS MOST LIKELY THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY AS THE SYSTEM PASSES OVERHEAD.

A STRONG COLD FRONT ARRIVES THURSDAY NIGHT MAKING FRIDAY A COLD AND POTENTIALLY WET DAY. SATURDAY WILL ALSO BE VERY COOL BUT IT GETS EVEN COLDER ON SUNDAY.

ANOTHER STRONG CHARGE OF COLD AIR, PROBABLY THE COLDEST WE'VE SEEN THIS SEASON, ARRIVES SATURDAY NIGHT SO HIGH TEMPERATURES ON SUNDAY STAY IN THE 40'S.

THERE IS ALSO A POTENTIAL FOR SOME MOISTURE SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT BUT TOO EARLY TO SAY IF WINTRY PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE.

TEMPERATURES REMAIN IN THE 40'S AND 50'S EARLY NEXT WEEK.

Brrrrrr....

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..

Here we go again ... from the mid 70's on Wednesday to the low to mid 50's on Thursday and even cooler on Friday.

A strong cold front will arrive early in the day Thursday, shifting winds to the north at gusty speeds of 15 to 25mph. No rain is expected with the front but plenty of cold air will build in behind the front.

Thursday night, plan on a freeze as winds relax. Friday, with high pressure building in, our afternoon highs will hover around 50 for one of our coldest days of Fall thus far.

Down the road, our next front will be Sunday night into Monday and a slight chance for rain looks possible, but not probable. The best chances stays to our southeast.

Wednesday Night: Clear and chilly, low of 43. Southwest wind 10 to 15, shifting northwest late night.

Thursday: A morning cold front, high near 54, cold wind chills in the 40's during the day. North wind 15 to 25.

Thursday Night: Freeze expected, low of 29. A few clouds, light north wind.

Friday: Partly cloudy, around 50.

Saturday and Sunday: Partly cloudy, 61 on Saturday and 68 on Sunday.

Monday: Mostly cloudy, slight chance for light rain, cooler again, high of 54.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Mostly sunny, highs 62 to 65.

Benign Weather Pattern Continues

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

There is simply not much weather going on here in our area, or anywhere else in the U.S. to speak of, except the bad kind, fires in California and some lake effect snow across the Great Lakes area.

Our pattern holds like it is through Friday with a couple cold fronts passing through, one Monday night, the other Thursday, but both dry.

Another front is possible on Saturday which should create more clouds, but doubtful any rain at this time.

Monday Night: Clear and cold, near 36. North wind 5 to 10.
Tuesday: Sunny and 64. North and east wind 5 to 10.
Tuesday Night: Clear and 43 with light south wind.
Wednesday: Sunny and 74.
Thursday: Sunny and 67.
Friday: Sunny and 58.
Saturday: Partly cloudy and 62.
Sunday: Mostly sunny and 61.

Dry Weather Persists

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

The dry weather trend continues until further notice, at least through the upcoming weekend. High pressure centered over the Four Corners of the southwest U.S. means systems stay away. And even with cold fronts coming through on a regular basis, they shove any Gulf moisture we may have southeast, back into the Gulf. The moisture doesn't have the opportunity to build back in time for the next front which also shoves the moisture back to the southeast, and the cycle repeats itself.

Two cold fronts this week. The first being Monday night, the next late Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

Sunday Night: Clear and cold, low of 35. Southwest wind at 5.
Monday: Sunny and 70. Southwest wind 5 to 10.
Monday Night: Clear and 37.
Tuesday: Sunny and 65.
Wednesday: Sunny and 72.
Thursday: Sunny and 63.

A Windy Afternoon...

Good Friday evening from KRBC meteorologist Stephanie Malone...

After a cold front pushed through the afternoon, temperatures dropped into the 60's and winds strengthened from the north up to 25 miles per hour.

Gusty winds will continue through tonight with gusts up to 25 miles per hour, and temperatures dropping down to 35 degrees. For your Saturday, cool temperatures, only getting up to 59 degrees with a northwesterly wind at 5 to 15 miles per hour.

Saturday night will be particularly cold, reaching the freezing mark in some areas, but climbing back into the upper 60's by Sunday. Mild temperatures continue until Monday night when a cold front pushes through and bumps highs back down into the lower 60's for a day, and then a 3rd cold front will push through Wednesday night, getting up to 60 on Thursday and down to 58 degrees for the high on Friday. Clear to mostly clear skies throughout the 7 day forecast.

From the KRBC weather lab, everyone have a great weekend!

Carry Your Coat Friday !!

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

There will be a drastic change in weather on Friday. Just when temperatures start to get warm around late morning or noon, BAM (as Emeril would say) - here comes the cold air! The cold air will be arriving across far northern counties of the Big Country by mid to late morning, come Frontiering into Abilene around noon, then proceed into the Coleman/Brownwood areas by mid-afternoon.

FOOTBALL FORECAST: Estimated kickoff temperature Friday night is 56.
By halftime 53, by end of the game 50. Dry, very windy, cold wind chills!!!

Dry weather should persist through the middle to end of next week. Another strong cold front is expected next Wednesday night or Thursday, possibly stronger than this week's front.

Thursday Night: Clear, low near 49. Southwest wind 5 to 10.
Friday: Mostly sunny, warming to near 70 by noon before temperatures begin a steady drop through the day to around 57 by sundown. North wind 20 to 30 with gusts. Wind chills will be in the 50's and 40's by late afternoon.
Friday Night: Clear and cold, low of 35. North wind 10 to 20.

Big Cold Front on the Way

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

As the headline says - a big cold front is headed our way and it should get here during the day on Friday. Prior to that, a cool night tonight with a low in the middle 40's and patchy fog with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies.
Thursday we warm to the mid 70's. When the front roars through Friday, temperatures will begin a slow but steady fall into the mid 30's by Saturday morning. On top of the cooling temperatures will be gusty north wind 20 to 30.

If you plan to attend an area playoff football game Friday night, take plenty of coats and blankets to keep warm, because you'll need it!

This weekend should be dry. Skies sunny but temperatures cool and mornings very cold.

Looking down the road to the middle of next week, another strong cold push is possible, maybe some light rain with it, doubtful though as of now.

Our rain chance just isn't looking good at this time, wished I could say different.

Wednesday Night: Patchy fog develops, low of 45, cooler west, slightly warmer east and southeast.

Thursday: Sun and 75 with southwest wind 10 to 15, gusts to 20.

Friday: Sunny, near 70 in advance of the front, sharply cooler afterwards.

Friday Night: Clear, mid 30's, windy.

Saturday: Sunny and breezy but cool, mid to upper 50's.

Sunday: Sun and 65.

Quiet Weather Pattern Returns

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

The rain is gone for the next week, as it looks now. The cold front caused a few storms around the area this morning, even dropped some small hail in the eastern Big Country, but drier air behind the front left us a beautiful day.

Over the next three days, morning lows will be cool, afternoon highs mild. I'm still forecasting a couple of fronts, one Thursday night and one Friday night but they both look dry.

Temperatures will drop this weekend into the 50's Saturday and 60's on Sunday.

Still another front is possible Monday into Tuesday of next week, with a slight possibility of some light rain setting up for about Tuesday of next week, maybe, hopefully, we sure need it.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, low of 46. Northeast wind 5 to 10.
Tomorrow: Mostly sunny and 70. Northeast and east wind 5 to 10.
Wednesday Night: Clear and 48.
Thursday: Mostly sunny and 70.
Friday: Sunny and 65.
Saturday: Sunny and 57.
Saturday Night: Possible freeze, 32.
Sunday: Sunny and 65.

Thunderstorms Today...

Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* There is a slight risk of severe weather today along and east of the US 283 corridor today... or roughly from Brady to Coleman to Baird to Breckenridge to Throckmorton and all points eastward.

* Strong storm system to the west is pushing a dryline across the area later today which will be the focal point for some showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. The strongest storms will be possible over the far eastern areas of the Big Country and into the Heartland/Central Texas area. As lift approaches from the west today, expect showers and a few thunderstorms to develop across the area. The dryline should push into the western areas by early afternoon. Thunderstorms will develop along the dryline as it continues east this afternoon. Some storms could become severe across the eastern areas. Thunderstorms should push east of the area by late tonight.

Slight Chance for T-Storms Tonight

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

Clouds increase tonight and, with a disturbance moving through the area, we have a 30% chance for thunderstorms late tonight and through Monday, ending Monday night. Tuesday through Saturday looks dry.

We have two cold fronts coming in this week. The first one is Thursday night but the second cold front, arriving Friday night, is the strongest of the two. It will cause temperatures to stay in the 50's Saturday and 60's Sunday of the upcoming weekend.

Saturday, November 08, 2008

A Chance For T-Storms...

Good Saturday from KRBC meteorologist Stephanie Malone...

Tonight will be mostly clear with a southeasterly wind at 5 to 10 miles pr hour and a low of 45. We'll get all the way up to 74 degrees tomorrow, with windy conditions, south winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

Tomorrow night there is a chance for storms, especially in the eastern counties, but a dryline comes through on Monday pushing the storms east and warming us up to 75 degrees.

A cold front comes through Monday night putting us back into seasonable temperatures in the mid to upper 60's with partly cloudy skies.

From the KRBC weather lab, everyone have a great night!

A Nice Weekend Ahead...

Good Friday from KRBC meteorologist Stephanie Malone...

Today we had a chilly start, and tomorrow will be no different. Getting down to 35 degrees for the low, but Saturday will warm up to a mild afternoon topping off at 69 degrees with a north west wind at 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Clear skies and mild temperatures will prevail through Monday afternoon with highs in the upper 60's and 70's and lows in the upper 40's and 50's. A cold front will come through the Big Country Monday night bringing a slight chance for rain to our eastern counties and cooling us off with a high of 65 Tuesday. We'll have a system come through Wednesday bringing a 40% chance for rain Wednesday and dipping down to 56 for the high.

A gradual warm up will continue through Friday getting back up to seasonable temperatures with mostly clear skies.

From the KRBC Weather Lab, have a great weekend!

Cold Morning Air - Mild Afternoon Sun

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

As high pressure takes control tonight, with light wind, under clear skies, temperatures are likely to plummet down to the low 30's, with widespread freezes expected. Some areas of the Big Country have already dropped to the freeze mark, others haven't. If you have tender plants and vegetation, it would be a good idea to protect it tonight.

No rain in the forecast through Saturday. Expect nice weather to prevail. The next change comes Sunday night into Monday when another strong cold front pushes through the area, possibly causing some rain. The eastern Big Country will stand the best chance at seeing moisture.

The overall pattern is changing some - with upper level winds dropping farther south, allowing colder Canadian air to drop farther south into the U.S. which means those 80's you enjoyed this week are a thing of the past for a while. This weekend, highs push back into the low 70's but Monday's cold front will drop temps back again to highs in the low 60's but Tuesday I'm expecting 50's for highs.

Thursday Night: Clear, freeze expected, low 32. North wind at 5 and less.
Friday: Sunny and 68. Light and variable wind.
Friday Night: Clear, 39.
Saturday: Sunny and 72.
Saturday Night: Clear and 45.
Sunday: Partly cloudy and 73 with a late day shower or storm possible.
Sunday Night: A cold front arrives, a slight chance for showers and storms, low of 55.
Monday: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy, a few showers possible, high of 63.

Wednesday, November 05, 2008

Windy Today:

Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* A dryline will move across the Big Country this afternoon to be followed by cold front later tonight. Very windy conditions will be expected with both the dryline and cold front. Wind Advisories will go into effect later this morning. Very warm today with highs in the lower to middle 80s followed by a cool down tomorrow. Most of the rain chances should be well to our east today.

Lake Wind Advisory in Effect

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..

A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for Wednesday from 9:00am to 5:00pm for Abilene and Taylor County. Nolan, Jones and Haskell counties are also included in the Advisory and other counties may be added.

A vigorous area of low pressure coming out of the Western U.S. into the Rockies has caused our winds to increase. The low will push a cold front through the area Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Cooler temperatures, close to normal for this time of year, can be expected Thursday through Saturday.

I've added a slight chance for rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, but nothing widespread is expected at this time.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, very mild, low of 63. South wind 15 to 25.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny, very windy, very warm, high of 84. Southwest and west wind 20 to 30 with higher gusts. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect.

Wednesday Night: A cold front arrives, partly cloudy, low of 45, wind shifts to the north.

Thursday: Partly cloudy, breezy, high of 65. North wind 10 to 20.

Thursday Night: Clear and cold, low of 39.

Friday: Sunny and 68.

Friday Night: Clear and 45.

Saturday: Sunny and 71.

Saturday Night: Clear and 50.

Sunday: Partly cloudy, slight chance for a late day thunderstorm, high of 73. Cold front Sunday night.

Monday: Partly cloudy, 65.

Wind, Wind and More Wind

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

The wind here will gust in response to low pressure areas passing through the Rocky Mountain region. Don't expect the gusty wind to die down anytime soon, remaining high through Wednesday out of the south, then gusty out of the north on Thursday behind our next cold front.

The front is not expected to bring rain. Matter of fact, with gusty wind and dry conditions, the wildfire danger is growing with a potential to see some Red Flag Advisories issued for the wildfire danger as the week progresses.

Coleman County reinstated their Burn Ban this morning.

I expect dry weather through this time next week.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, low of 58. Southeast wind 10 to 15.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy, high of 80. Southeast wind 15 to 25.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, low of 62. Southeast wind 10 to 20.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy, high of 83, windy. Southwest wind 20 to 30.
Wednesday Night: A cold front arrives, low of 52. Northwest wind 10 to 20.
Thursday: Sunny and breezy, high of 65. North wind 10 to 20.
Thursday Night: Clear and 42.
Friday: Sunny and 67.
Friday Night: Clear and 44.
Saturday and Sunday: Sunny, low to middle 70's.

Warm and Windy Weather

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

We need some rain - but I have none in the forecast.
With such dry conditions - we don't need windy weather - but there will be plenty of it this week.

Gusty south wind can be expected, day and night, through Wednesday.
Temperatures through Wednesday will remain above normal for this time of year.

The next change is a cold front due Wednesday night, keeping winds gusty from the north, but not causing any rain. Temperatures Thursday through Saturday will be cooler, close to normal for early November.

Sunday Night: Clear and 58. South wind 5 to 15.
Monday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny, windy, high of 80. Southeast wind 15 to 25.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy and 58, breezy.
Tuesday and Wednesday: Partly cloudy, windy and warm, high of 80.

Looking further down the road into the middle of next week, some cooler air is building in the northern states, but still no sign of moisture at this time.

A Foggy Night...

Good Saturday from KRBC meteorologist Stephanie Malone...

Tonight we will have above average temperatures, only getting down to 56 degrees. With the dew points getting close to the temperature, we can see patchy fog around the Big Country tonight. Then tomorrow expect another warm afternoon getting up to 83 degrees with gusty wind, gusting up to 20 miles per hour.

We'll have upper 70's to lower 80's for the highs Sunday through Wednesday, with winds gusting up 20 and 25 miles per hour. Wednesday will be exceptionally windy with gusts up to 35 miles per hour.

Thursday and Friday will start to feel like fall once again with highs in the lower 70's and lows in the 40's.

From the KRBC weather lab, have a great evening!
