Feeling More Like Spring & Not Winter

Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* A quiet morning across West Central Texas on this Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. We have some clouds drifting through the area so expect a partly cloudy day. The big story is the nice warming trend we are seeing with highs today in the lower 70s across the region. A breezy southwest wind keeps us mild tonight with lows in the middle 40s with a partly cloudy night.

* The Week Ahead: Feeling more like spring and not winter with highs into the lower to middle 70s into midweek across the area. A weak front/system will drift through the area on Wednesday and may squeeze out a shower or two. No cool down expected with this front. Highs Thursday and Friday in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Overnight lows very mild and well above freezing into the lower to middle 40s.

* Weekend: A decent cold front will move in Friday night and on Saturday cooling us back into the lower 60s and also bringing a slight chance for a shower or two on Saturday. Cooler on Sunday with highs back into the middle 50s. Lows still in the 40s on Saturday morning but the lows drop back into the 30s by Sunday morning.

* The Winter Outlook: The Climate Prediction Center indicates a moderate El NiƱo pattern continues to bring West Central Texas a wetter pattern here in the winter months. Increased wintry precipitation is possible depending on temperature trends. Equal chances of above or below normal temperatures remain possible for the area.

* Drought Information: For the latest drought information for the state of Texas please visit the U.S Drought Monitor website by clicking here. The data is updated by the government every Thursday morning around 7:30 AM local time. We're starting to see some light drought conditions returning to the far western counties.
