From KRBC Meteorologist Stephanie Malone ...
Happy Labor Day weekend to everyone!
First off, Hurricane Gustav is barrelling toward the gulf coast at this moment. It is moving northwest at 17 miles per hour, and is expected to decrease in speed over the next 12 hours. Gustav expected to make landfall by Monday before noon.
Gustav is currently a category 3 hurricane and is expected to stay a category 3 until it makes landfall. The projected track is placing Gustav just west of New Orleans as it hits land.
The path of Gustav once it hits land brings us a slight chance for some showers in the eastern counties of the Big Country starting Thursday.
There is also Tropical Storm Hanna in the Atlantic, which is expected to impact the Bahamas. We will be keeping a close eye on it in the next couple of days as well.
Enjoy your Labor Day holiday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 90's.
The dry weather will continue through Wednesday, when Gustav will steer a cold front into the Big Country. The cold front will bring in dry, cooler air into the region, but the collision of the dry air with the moist humid air we currently have in the area could trigger storms along the front.
Thanks to the cold front, we will enjoy highs in the mid to upper eighties from Wednesday through Saturday.
There is a chance in the forecast for rain Wednesday and Thursday, but we will have to keep an eye on Gustav's track to if we will be seeing any more rain as a result.
Happy Labor Day to everyone!

From KRBC Weekend Meteorologist Stephanie Malone...
Happy Saturday to everyone! A lot to talk about in weather this weekend.
Showers and thunderstorms throughout much of the Big Country as a low pressure system in northern Mexico is bringing moisture in from the gulf.
The chance for storms will continue through the evening and into tomorrow. We'll begin tomorrow off with a 20% chance for showers ... and as the day goes on the chance will dimenish as the low pushes off even further to the west.
Expect mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 90's for your Labor Day holiday continuing into Tuesday.
Wednesday there is a chance that a front will push into the northern portions of the Big Country giving us a chance for rain.
Hurricane Gustav is now a strong Category 4 hurricane with winds at 138 miles per hour. It is expected to stay a Category 4 before hitting land late Monday into early Tuesday. There is large uncertainty as to the track that Gustav will make. It could hit as far southwest as Corpus Christy or as far east as Mississipi. If Gustav takes the more westerly track, then we could be seeing rain chances Thursday through the end of next week. We'll be keeping a close eye on the track of Gustav to see if it will effect our weather her in West Texas.
A busy time in the tropics ... also Tropical Storm Hanna to speak about. Hanna is in the Atlantic and could be effecting the Bahamas. We'll also keep a close eye on it's progress in the coming days.
That's your Big Country forecast ... thank you for checking us out at www.bigcountryhomepage.com and don't forget to tune in Sunday night for the MDA Jerry Lewis telethon.

Dodging Some Showers This Holiday Weekend
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
Greetings from the new Weather Lab - plenty to keep us occupied these days with a daily chance for rain in the KRBC viewing area and tropical systems Gustav and Hanna in the Atlantic.
First - a low pressure area south of the Big Bend spun up some showers into the southern Big Country Thursday afternoon and that same process could happen again on Friday.
Second - A cold front will flirt with the area Friday into Saturday but should stay north. It may, however, create some storms which could drift our way.
End result - I'm leaving a daily 20% chance for rain in your forecast from Friday through Wednesday. High temperatures will continue to hover near 90 over the next few days - slightly above some days, slight below 90 other days.
In the Atlantic - Gustav is first priority. Forecast to gain strength Friday, Saturday and Sunday over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Gustav is expected to make landfall somewhere between Houston and New Orleans late Monday or Tuesday - the track is still uncertain.
Hundreds of miles southwest of Florida is Hanna, moving northwest but expected to take a more westerly route and possibly affect Florida, or come close, one day next week.
And if that isn't enough, a third tropical storm is also possible and is forecast to travel toward the U.S. around September 7th or 8th.
So, there is plenty to watch - remember - any summer thunderstorms which develop in your area can produce locally heavy rain, gusty wind and dangerous lightning strikes.
Don't forget to watch the MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon on KRBC Sunday night and all day Monday - I'll see you on TV.

Showers Possible - Gustav Gets All the Attention
From the KRBC Weather Lab and Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..
Thanks for checking in. I'm leaving rain in the forecast each of the next seven days. Now, it's not a big chance, but Thursday we should see some spotty showers develop around the area.
Afternoon heating will be the primary reason but there is also a low pressure area in New Mexico which will send a little instability into the area as well.
On Friday, a cold front flirts with us from the north but looks like it may not make it into Abilene, but perhaps make it into the northern counties of the Big Country. With the front so close, I've put rain in the forecast for Friday.
This weekend, shower chances increase to about 30 percent and temperatures drop to the upper 80's. Keep in mind any shower or storm which develops will be capable of producing gusty wind, lightning strikes and heavy downpours.
On the national level, Gustav will continue to get most of the attention, should approach the Gulf of Mexico by Saturday then travel through the Gulf Sunday and Monday. The current track leads Gustav toward New Orleans but there is plenty of room for error in the forecast. If you have travel plans to the Gulf Coast from Texas to the Florida Panhandle, get the latest information on Gustav before you go.
Before I go, check out our new Weather Call service - for $6.95 a year - we'll call your phone when a tornado warning, severe thunderstorm warning or flash flood warning is issued for your local zip code. Click on the weather link then find Weather Call.
Talk to ya later,
Randy

Heat - Stray Storms
From the KRBC Weather Lab and Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..
A minor disturbance moving from northeast to southwest combined with afternoon heating Monday to produce scattered showers and storms around the area. Some produced locally heavy downpours.
I'm leaving a slight chance for afternoon showers in the forecast again on Tuesday and Wednesday but coverage will be limited.
Temperatures will stay hot and muggy through the end of the week with daily highs ranging from 92-95 and lows 69-72.
Looking ahead to the weekend - Around 90, slight chance for rain.

Hot Summer Pattern With Us This Week
From the KRBC Weather Lab and Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..
Even though it's back to school time for most area students Monday, and the thought of fall football is in the air, someone forgot to tell Mother Nature because it's going to be hot to finish out the last full week of August.
While we will have the potential for an isolated shower Monday, the trend for the rest of the week is for a high pressure ridge anchored over the Rockies to expand its grip on our weather which keeps it warm and dry.
I noticed a minor little system or disturbance which may try to dive into our area Wednesday into Thursday but the chance for rain with it is too slim to mention at this point.
Tropical Depression Fay helps keep a northeast wind blowing here through Monday, but any rain from the super-charged rainmaker stays well east of our area.
Bottom line for us, mainly warm and dry this week.
Sunday Night: Isolated evening showers, otherwise partly cloudy to clear with a low of 68.
Monday: Partly cloudy, isolated shower possible, high 91. Northeast wind 10 to 15.
Tuesday through Thursday: Partly cloudy, low 90's.

Slight Chance for Rain This Weekend
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
Thanks for stopping by our blog. I'm putting a slight chance for rain in the forecast this weekend, due to a weak upper level low which develops over Southwest Texas.
Tropical Storm Fay is not expected to be a player in our weather, although Fay will remain an important player in the weather for the southern U.S. through early next week. Drought areas of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and other southern states stand to benefit greatly from the storm.
Our rain chance this weekend shouldn't be widespread precipitation, more of the hit and miss variety with a few heavy downpours in spots.
Thursday Night: Partly cloudy to mostly clear, low 72. Light south breeze.
Friday: Partly cloudy and 93. Southeast wind 10 to 15.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy and 72.
Saturday and Sunday: Partly cloudy with a slight chance for thunderstorms and highs in the upper 80's.

Rain Continues, Flash Flood Threat:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Flash Flood Watch until 7:00 PM Monday for the following counties: Haskell, Throckmorton, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Nolan, Taylor, Callahan, Brown, Coleman, Runnels and Coke. The National Weather Service in Midland has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Scurry and Mitchell County until 7:00 PM Monday.
* Heavy rainfall remains possible early this week for much of West Central Texas as a slow moving upper level storm system approaches from the northwest. An upper level storm system located over the Panhandle of Texas and will move toward the Big County tonight and Tuesday. With the approach of this upper level storm system, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will develop and move across the Big County, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley.
* Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms have already moved across much of West Central Texas since Friday night. We have seen anywhere from 3-6 inches of rainfall across the area with these rains. The ground is very saturated and any additional heavy rainfall may produce flooding or flash flooding. While the exact track and timing of the thunderstorm complexes is uncertain at this time, widespread rainfall will be likely. It appears right now that the most likely time frame for the heaviest rainfall will come today and tomorrow as the upper low gets closer to the area. Rain You Want, Rain You Get
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
I'm writing this on Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm and have been watching it rain since the middle of the morning - a steady, sometimes heavy, rain which has been just what the doctor ordered. It's one of those days where a good nap works well. But, there is weather to forecast so here is where I think we're going with this system.
First - The low helping cause the rain won't leave our area until Wednesday. It was still in Colorado this afternoon but forecast to begin moving southeast.
Secondly - Upper level disturbances rotating around the low will be capable of dropping heavy rain from now through Tuesday with a decreasing chance for rain on Wednesday.
Flooding is a concern - With now over 3 inches of rain since Friday, Abilene has a soaked ground - we can handle a slow steady rain pretty well - we just can't handle prolonged downpours which is a real threat going into Monday so please monitor our webpage or watch KRBC news updates.
Sunday Night: Rain and thunderstorms likely, locally heavy rain possible. Low near 66.
Monday: Rain and thunderstorms likely, locally heavy rain and flash flooding possible. High near 79.
Monday Night: Rain and thunderstorms likely, low 66, locally heavy rain possible.
Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a 60% chance for rain, high 82.
Wednesday: A slight 20% chance for rain, high 85.
Thursday and Friday: Partly cloudy, near 90.
Saturday and Sunday: Partly cloudy, near 92.

Rain Stays in the Forecast TFN
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..
Rain is in the forecast each of the next seven days - and no, I don't know how long it's been since I've put rain in the forecast everyday for a week.
But, I do know that a big pattern shift is coming our way and while this isn't the final end to summer, it's going to put a big dent in the heat and our chance for rain is good.
A big upper level low came out of Canada Thursday morning and was spinning over eastern Montana Thursday afternoon. The low is forecast to track south and slightly southwest Friday and Saturday and end up roughly between Denver and Amarillo by Sunday, positioned to pinwheel some disturbances and cooler air in our direction. That cooler air in the upper levels of the atmosphere serves to destabalize the air above which helps to create thunderstorms and rain. Warm moist air at the surface with cooler air above is what we're looking for.
The low looks to get stuck through Monday which means a continued good chance for rain in our area. By Tuesday, the low should start moving east but our chance for rain won't totally go away at least through this time next week.
CAUTION - While it's too early to say if we will see any flash flooding issues, keep in mind that systems this time of year tend to move slowly, and any heavy rain can cause flash flooding issues quickly. We're approaching the one year anniversary of Erin which flooded much of Taylor County and Abilene. While we're not dealing with a tropical system this time, we are dealing with plenty of Gulf moisture and a strong cold front (by this time of year standards) so just keep the potential for flooding in mind and monitor the weather along with us here on KRBC.
It's going to be a gradual change, so let's take it day by day.
Friday: I'm going with a slight chance for thunderstorms with highs in the low 90's. East wind 5 to 15.
Friday Night: Thunderstorms which develop northwest of us will move our direction, so a 30% chance for rain with a low around 70.
Saturday: The chance for rain begins to improve to 40%. Highs cool to near 86, lots of clouds around.
Sunday: Cloudy with a 50% chance for rain, some locally heavy amounts possible. High near 83.
Monday: Cloudy with a 50% chance for rain, some locally heavy amounts possible. High near 83.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy with a 40% chance for rain, high near 86.
Wednesday and Thursday: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with a 20% chance for rain, upper 80's to near 90.

Rain Chance Looks Good This Weekend
From the KRBC Weather Lab and Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
We have an interesting weather pattern setting up for this weekend. From now through Friday we're going to see very gradual changes. The primary weather-maker is an upper level low which is currently in Canada but it starts making its way south today.
Prior to the main low, we'll have some minor disturbances moving our way from the north which bring a slight chance for rain starting Thursday night and continuing into Saturday. By Saturday, we'll start seeing more influence from the main upper low and by Sunday and Monday, it takes up residence in the general vicinity of northern New Mexico, southeastern Colorado and the Texas Panhandle. It will spin disturbances through our area from time to time, leading to a continued chance for rain from Saturday through next Tuesday. At this time, it appears we will have the best chance for rain Sunday and Monday.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy to mostly clear, low 70. South wind 5 to 10.
Thursday: Partly cloudy, hot, 98, slight chance for storms late day or Thursday evening.
Thursday Night: 20% chance for storms, partly cloudy, low 73.
Friday: Partly cloudy, high 93, a few storms possible.
Saturday: Increasing likelihood of rain.
Sunday and Monday: Rain likely, cooler, in the 80's.

Next Rain Chance Arrivces This Weekend:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Rain this morning well to our south across the Concho Valley and the Edwards Plateau while overcast conditions are in place across the Big Country. The clouds will gradually break up during the morning with partly cloudy conditions by the afternoon. An area of high pressure will build into West Texas today and the next several days and will gradually help temperatures begin to warm up and southernly winds return to the area.
* Looking down the road, the high should weaken by the end of the week. This will allow for a slight chance of rain beginning late Thursday into early next week as an upper trough moves across the central plains and will affect the Big Country.
* Just a reminder as we make new changes to KRBC Weather, we have now updated our weather section on our website. You can check the local radar, temperatures, as well as other information!

Is the Pattern Shifting?
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
Summer isn't over - we still have plenty more hot days ahead. But, there are signs the pattern may be starting to shift toward the much anticipated end of summer and cooler weather. We saw a cold front make its way into our area Sunday night and an upper level disturbance drop into the area to create significant rain in some areas. Another front is forecast to arrive either Thursday night or Friday. These fronts are courtesy of low pressure areas dropping out of Canada and into the Central U.S. Plains - a pattern which we typically see in the Fall - so I think we're seeing early stages of our summer gradually coming to an end - but remember - lots more heat and humidity yet to go.
I'm looking for afternoon highs near 96 on Tuesday and Wednesday, 95 on Thursday then our next cold front arriving by Friday which keeps highs Friday in the middle 80's (perhaps cooler). Around 90 to 94 looks in order for weekend highs.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy with a 20% chance for thunderstorms, low near 72. Light winds.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy and hot, high near 96.

Rain in the Forecast to Begin the Week
from krbc chief meteorologist randy turner ..
WE BEGIN THE NEW WORK WEEK WITH RAIN BACK IN THE FORECAST. A COLD FRONT WILL SLOWLY MOVE INTO THE BIG COUNTRY TONIGHT. THAT, COMBINED WITH UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES, DROPPING DOWN FROM THE NORTH, PROVIDE A GOOD CHANCE FOR RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT AND MONDAY INTO MONDAY NIGHT, ENDING TUESDAY.
THE MIDDLE PART OF THE WEEK LOOKS DRY, BUT SOMETHING INTERESTING CAUGHT MY EYE - ANOTHER COLD FRONT, WHICH COULD BE PRETTY STRONG, IS FORECAST TO DROP INTO OUR AREA FRIDAY WHICH BRINGS A CHANCE FOR RAIN FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. THIS ACTUALLY LOOKS SIMILAR TO A PATTERN WE SEE IN THE FALL SO IT COULD BE OUR FIRST GLANCE AT COOLING TEMPERATURES.
SUNDAY NIGHT: INCREASING CLOUDINESS WITH A 40% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS. LOW NEAR 74.
MONDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS, HIGHS NEAR 88. NORTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15.
MONDAY NIGHT: SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS, LOW NEAR 71.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, 20% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS, HIGH IN THE LOW 90'S.

Isolated Storms - Dry for Most
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
Thanks for stopping by. The overall theme of our weather for the next 7 days is heat. Two things bring us a slight chance for rain. One being the remnants of Edouard, which caused afternoon thunderstorms across the northern Big Country Thursday. The other weather-make to watch is a cold front expected to drop across the Red River and give us a glancing blow which leads to a slight rain chance Friday going into Saturday. Otherwise, we're about to get back to hot and mainly dry weather for the next week.
There also could be a quick chance for rain Monday night into Tuesday, monitoring that at this time. Your weekend will be hot and humid.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, low 73 with isolated showers and storms.
Friday: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of storms mainly north of I-20 across northern counties of the Big Country. High 97.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, low 73. Isolated shower possible.
Saturday: Isolated storms mainly north of I-20, otherwise partly cloudy and hot, high of 99.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, around 100.

Good Chance for Rain from Edouard
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
The remnants of Tropical Storm Edouard are forecast to move northwest and pass straight over the Big Country area Wednesday. That means a good chance for rain and isolated heavy thunderstorms.
Locally heavy downpours are possible. As we saw last summer with a tropical system in Taylor County, should it linger in any one area, the chance for localized flooding will increase.
Right now, 1 to 3 inche rains are expected around the area.
The system should linger in West Central Texas into Thursday, possibly Friday, so a 20 percent chance for rain is in the Thursday/Friday forecast.
Tuesday Night: Turning cloudy with a 30% chance for rain. Low 71. East wind 10 to 15.
Wednesday: Cloudy with a 70% chance for rain, locally heavy downpours will be possible. High 85 with east and northeast wind 15 to 20 and gusty at times in heavier rain bands.
Wednesday Night: Continued cloudy with scattered showers and storms, low of 71.
Thursday and Friday: Partly cloudy, 20 percent chance for rain, high around 90.

* Hot and dry weather will remain in place one more day as the heat ridge is centered over north Texas and is baking the Big Country, Heartland, and Concho Valley. Daytime highs will be in the upper 90s and lower 100s. We will see a nice relief from the heat tomorrow as what is left of Edouard work into this area bringing us rain.
* The latest track from NHC places the remnants of Edouard which should make landfall near High Island (based on NHC data this morning) will move into the Hill Country late tonight and will be across most of our area on Wednesday. Based on this track, our area will get a good soaking rainfall event tomorrow with anywhere from 1-3 inches across the area. We'll have to watch for any possible flash flooding, but the ground is so dry I think most of it will be absorbed into the soil.

Get Used to the Heat
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ..
I wished I could write that the rain chance was great and that temperatures will be cooling down. It would be nice but the chance for rain is slim and the chance for heat is great.
Our ultimate weather enforcer this time of year is high pressure, allowing heat to build temperatures to at or just above 100 degrees regularly.
A weak upper level feature may spark a few scattered thunderstorms Friday but most areas won't see anything.
For your upcoming weekend, expect more hot and dry weather.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, an isolated storm possible in the southern counties of the KRBC viewing area. Low near 75. South wind at 5.
Friday: Partly cloudy, 20% chance for storms, high 98. Southeast wind 5 to 10.
Saturday and Sunday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny, 100-102 daily, lows middle 70's.

More Heat - A Few Places See Rain
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
A few areas will see rain, but not many. The pattern continues to have high pressure as our dominant weather feature - but a low pressure trough which is stuck in our area also provides the needed lift to interact with afternoon heating to create scattered showers and storms.
At night, a low level jet stream also adds some moisture to the equation which allows some storms to persist into the overnight hours.
Storms that develop will typically move very slowly this time of year, due to lack of any significant upper level steering winds. Therefore, localized areas can see some heavy rainfall - but most areas miss out entirely. such is summer weather here in the Big Country.
Thursday and Friday: A 20% chance for storms, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with highs near 100. Nighttime lows near 75.
Saturday through next Wednesday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny, daily highs upper 90's, overnight lows middle 70's.

Hot Weather Continues
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Dolly is approaching the Lower Rio Grande Valley this morning as I write this blog bringing very heavy rain to south Texas. I talked to a good friend of mine who is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi who reports very heavy rainfall with the northern bands moving across that area. I asked him to please share because we really need a good soaking rain up this way. Speaking of Dolly and rain, it looks like we are going to miss out on any rain from Dolly...models tend to say everything will stay around I-10 and southward. Just clouds from the system working up this way.
* Speaking of rain, we are now officially below normal on rainfall for the year. As of this morning, Abilene is now 0.01" below normal on rainfall. The US Drought Monitor has most of the Big Country under D0-Abnormally Dry drought conditions, while the far Eastern and Western Big Country, Heartland, and Northern Concho Valley are under D1-Moderate Drought Conditions.
* Our forecast will remain hot and dry for the next seven days with highs in the upper 90s and lows into the middle 70s with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. I will be somewhat cooler to end the week thanks to more clouds because of Dolly, but still plenty of heat for the area.

Have a great Wednesday...

Hot & Dry To Start The Week
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* High pressure will dominate the weather pattern through the week across the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley. Highs will be a few degrees above normal into the upper 90s through next week with overnight lows about normal for this time of the year into the lower 70s. Humidity will be kinda high as well, so it will be a bit sticky. We'll keep an eye to the Gulf of Mexico on Dolly to see if it could change my forecast come late week.
* Rain Chances: Pattern does not look good for well organized rain event for the next seven days. Having said that, there could be a stray thunderstorm pop up in the daytime heating, especially with upper 90s and higher humidity values. It looks as if the rain from Dolly will stay well south of the KRBC viewing area. We'll only see some increased cloud cover come late week.

Typical July Weather is Here Awhile
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
THE WEATHER SETTLES IN TO A TYPICAL DRY AND HOT PATTERN OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. RAIN CHANCES REMAIN VERY SLIM - PRIMARY WEATHER FEATURE IS THE HEAT AND A FAIR AMOUNT OF HUMIDITY. REMEMBER THE HEAT SAFETY TIPS - DRINK PLENTY OF WATER - MAKE SURE YOUR PETS HAVE AMPLE WATER - DON'T OVERDO IT IN THE HEAT - LIMIT MOST OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES TO THE MORNING HOURS IF POSSIBLE.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, ISOLATED SHOWERS WESTERN COUNTIES. LOW NEAR 73. SOUTH WIND 5 TO 10.
FRIDAY THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK: PARTLY CLOUDY DAILY WITH HIGHS IN THE MIDDLE 90'S AND LOWS IN THE LOW 70'S.

Hot & Dry Weather Settles Back In Place:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Hot and dry weather forecast will began to dominate the forecast today and as we head into the weekend. Area of high pressure to our west and east, as well as dry air filtering in from the South Central U.S. will help bring highs back into the upper 90s the next few days. There is a slight chance for isolated t-storms today, mainly in the far western Big Country. The moisture surge/axis has shifted somewhat west from yesterday.
* Down the road, temperatures remain slightly above normal into the upper 90s with lows in the lower to middle 70s. Look for partly cloudy days and night through the next seven days. With the daytime heating, there could be a few widely isolated storms pop up each afternoon and early evening.

One More Round Today:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and eveningacross the Big Country. Another band this morning is just moving across the northern areas. We finally picked up some rainfall in Abilene during the evening hours on Tuesday... officially 0.01" (just enough to wet the roads and pavement) while north of I-20 some areas got another good soaking.
* Upper high has shifted a little farther southwest over the last 24hours. This is allowing the weak shortwaves rotating around the periphery to a little farther south than last night. The best moisture fetch is running right across our area so expect a occasional showers and storms to develop during the day in random spots.

Showers Stay in the Forecast
From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...
THE RAIN STAYS IN THE FORECAST FOR THE SHORT TERM AND RE-ENTERS THE FORECAST IN THE LONG-TERM.
A MOISTURE AXIS REMAINS DRAPED ACROSS OUR AREA, EVIDENT BY THE CLOUDS THIS AFTERNOON AND SOME SHOWERS IN THE AREA. BEING ON THE EAST SIDE OF A HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE, THE MOISTURE IS TRAPPED AND SHOULD LEAD TO ANOTHER ROUND OF OVERNIGHT SHOWERS AND A GOOD CHANCE FOR RAIN ON WEDNESDAY.
SHOWERS SHOULD BE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY, BUT DUE TO ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE COMING INTO TEXAS FROM THE SOUTHEAST THIS WEEKEND, I'VE PUT RAIN BACK IN THE FORECAST FOR SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.
TEMPERATURES SHOULD STAY A LITTLE BELOW NORMAL FOR AFTERNOON HIGHS EACH OF THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS.
TONIGHT: A FEW SHOWERS, LOW 73.
TOMORROW: CONSIDERABLE CLOUDINESS, HIGH 88, 40% CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 TO 15.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, LOW 72, A FEW SHOWERS.
THURSDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, 20% CHANCE FOR SHOWERS, HIGH 92.

* Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms dropping southeast this morning across the Big Country. Upper high has shifted a little farther southwest over the last 24 hours. This is allowing the weak shortwaves rotating around the periphery to a little farther south than last night. Looks like the Big Country and eventually the northern Heartland will see the best precipitation chances for today. Activity a little more scattered this afternoon, allowing enough sunshine to allow temperatures to climb.

TEMPERATURES, WHILE COMFORTABLE TODAY, WILL BE ON THE RISE FROM THE MIDDLE TO END OF THE WEEK, INCLUDING THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. I'M FORECASTING DRY WEATHER THIS WEEKEND.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS, ENDING LATE. LOW NEAR 70.

More Rain Chances Today:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* An area of high pressure continues to sit across the Southeast. Southeasterly flow around the high continues bring moisture from the Gulf of Mexico across Texas. With daytime heating combined with this ample moisture supply, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across the Big Country, Heartland and Concho Valley today. Also look for more cloudy cover today as well. A cold front to the north will make it's final push southward before stalling over the Red River/Texoma area late tonight. This front will kick off some storms over the northern Big County as well.
* Enjoy the rain while we have it as the the high will shift westward as we approach the end of the week shutting the Gulf of Mexico moisture off from Texas so we'll return to a dry pattern by the end of the week. Temperatures by the weekend will be back in the middle and upper 90s. Would not be surprised to see the triple digits in a few spots.

July Showers Bring ... Cooler Temps
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER .....
YOU DON'T THINK ABOUT JULY AS BEING WET BUT THIS WEEK, IT IS. SHOWERS ARE IN MY FORECAST THROUGH THURSDAY.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IS A CONSTANT FLOW OF WARM, MOIST GULF OF MEXICO AIR INTO SOUTH TEXAS - MOISTURE WHICH MOVES NORTHWARD INTO OUR AREA. SIMPLY HEAT IT UP AND OUT POP THE SHOWERS ALMOST LIKE CLOCK WORK. I'M EXPECTING NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND ISOLATED STORMS TUESDAY - AT LEAST A 30% CHANCE IF NOT GREATER TO THE SOUTH OF ABILENE. THE HEAVIEST RAINS, HOWEVER, WILL REMAIN ACROSS SOUTH TEXAS AND THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY.
MORE CLOUDS SHOULD TRANSLATE INTO SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES ON TUESDAY - I'M FORECASTING UPPER 80'S TO NEAR 90. RAIN STAYS IN THE FORECAST THROUGH THURSDAY.
MONDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS. LOW NEAR 70. SOUTH WIND AT 5 TO 10.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A GOOD CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND ISOLATED STORMS. MOVEMENT WILL BE SOUTH TO NORTH. SOME COULD PRODUCE HEAVY DOWNPOURS BUT NONE ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME SEVERE. HIGH OF 89. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 20.
TUESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH SHOWERS IN THE AREA, LOW 70.

* An area of high pressure sits to our east across the Deep South and with this feature to our east, this puts us in southeasterly flow bringing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico across the Lone Star State. With daytime heating, a few thunderstorms will be possible today across the area.
* Models suggest a disturbance will rotate around the high and move into south Texas and work it's way north tomorrow helping increase rain chances. A cold front to the north is trying it's best to work southward at the same time. Showers and thunderstorms that develop on this front will work into the northern Big Country tomorrow afternoon and evening. For now, it looks like the best chance of rain is for Tuesday afternoon and evening.
* The high will shift some westward toward mid-week shutting the Gulf of Mexico moisture off from Texas so we'll return to a dry pattern by the end of the week.
* Temperatures will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s the next few days thanks to rain and cloud cover. Highs will climb back into the middle 90s come the end of the week.

Isolated Showers This Week
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
LOOKING AHEAD TO THIS WEEK'S WEATHER - THERE IS RAIN IN OUR FORECAST EACH DAY THROUGH THURSDAY - BUT THAT CERTAINLY DOESN'T MEAN ALL AREAS WILL SEE RAIN THIS WEEK. IN FACT, IT'LL MAINLY BE THE SOUTHERN COUNTIES OF THE BIG COUNTRY AND THE NORTHERN COUNTIES THAT HAVE THE BEST CHANCE.
THE SOUTHERN COUNTIES WILL BE INFLUENCED BY SOME TROPICAL ACTIVITY WHICH WILL TEND TO DRIFT NORTHWARD OUT OF THE HILL COUNTRY.
THE NORTHERN COUNTIES MAY SEE SOME SHOWERS APPROACH FROM A COLD FRONT BUT THE MAJORITY OF OUR AREA WILL SEE JUST SPOTTY RAINFALL THIS WEEK.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH VERY ISOLATED SHOWERS, LOW IN THE UPPER 60'S. LIGHT SOUTH WIND.
MONDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH 91. SOUTH SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15.
TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A DAILY SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS, AROUND 90 FOR HIGHS.

Nice Weekend for the 4th !
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
A FEW SMALL HEAT GENERATED SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH THIS EVENING AND ALSO ON FRIDAY, THE FOURTH OF JULY. NO WIDESPREAD RAIN COVERAGE IS EXPECTED AND MOST AREAS WILL JUST SIMPLY SEE PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. THE PATTERN SHOULDN'T CHANGE TOO MUCH SATURDAY OR SUNDAY WITH ONLY THE ISOLATED VARIETY SHOWER AND TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 90'S. I'M STILL HOLDING WITH A 20% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS MONDAY THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK.
THURSDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, ISOLATED SHOWERS, LOW 70.
FRIDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, ISOLATED AFTERNOON SHOWERS, HIGH 93.
FRIDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, ISOLATED EVENING SHOWERS, LOW 72.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, LOW 90'S, WITH A HIT OR MISS SHOWER POSSIBLE.

Same Old Song & Dance In Weather:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* A cold front to the north will stall over Oklahoma late today. One forecast model is stalling the front close to the Red River and develops thunderstorms on this front. There could be a storm or two later this evening roughly north of US 380, or an Aspermont-Haskell-Throckmorton line. Most of the action will probably stay up in Texoma. Otherwise, with daytime heating a stray thunderstorm could develop in any given spot across the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley each day. Mostly Sunny to Partly Cloudy conditions with highs in the middle 90s and lows in the lower 70s across the board with that very isolated pop-up storm are the main weather feaures into the middle of next week.
*4th of July: Partly Cloudy with highs in the middle 90s. I can't rule out a stray thunderstorm in the daytime heating of the day. Weather should be great for the nightly fireworks events across West Central Texas!

Warm and Dry Most of the Time
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
NO MAJOR CHANGES TO MY FORECAST TODAY, COMPARED TO WHAT I TALKED ABOUT YESTERDAY. IT IS A MAINLY DRY FORECAST BUT A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE STILL POSSIBLE THROUGH THE EVENING THANKS TO AFTERNOON HEATING.
AS WE APPROACH THE FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY, STILL MAINLY DRY WEATHER AREA WIDE WITH THE BEST CHANCE FOR RAIN SOUTH OF OUR AREA ALONG THE TEXAS COAST AND THE VALLEY OF SOUTH TEXAS. RAIN PROBABILITIES FOR OUR AREA ARE AROUND 10 PERCENT OR LESS THROUGH SATURDAY THEN 10 TO 20 PERCENT SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.
OUR HIGH TEMPERATURES EACH OF THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS WILL BE FROM 90 TO 95 DEGREES, VERY NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.
LOWS FROM 69-72 EACH OF THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

Fair Weather Today:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* The stalled front to the south has dissipated and now we're left with average July weather across West Central Texas. A cold front to the north will stall over Oklahoma so no more relief in the extended forecast over than a stray storm that could develop in the daytime heating. Forecast models are hinting at the heat ridge building back eastward by next week. In the immediate forecast, highs will gradually climb back into the middle 90s and overnight lows in the lower 70s.
*4th of July: Weather looks great for grilling out and having fun with the family. Partly Cloudy with highs in the middle 90s. I can't rule out a stray thunderstorm in the daytime heating of the day. ISOLATED SHOWERS POSSIBLE FOR THE 4TH
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
IT WAS A PARTLY CLOUDY DAY TODAY AND LOOKED RAINY ALL AFTERNOON BUT THE AREAS THAT SAW THE RAIN WERE LIMITED PRIMARILY TO SOUTHERN COLEMAN COUNTY AND RUNNELS COUNTY. AN ISOLATED STORM OR SHOWER IS STILL POSSIBLE INTO THE EVENING HOURS.
AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT THREE DAYS, I'M LEAVING THE FORECAST MAINLY DRY. WHILE A TYPICAL HIT AND MISS SHOWER IS POSSIBLE, MOST AREAS STAY DRY.
I DID MAKE SOME CHANGES TO THE FORECAST FROM SATURDAY THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY - THE MAIN CHANGE BEING RAIN BACK IN THE FORECAST, 20% DAILY, WHICH ALSO HOLDS DOWN OUR TEMPERATURES JUST A LITTLE.
IT'S TOO EARLY TO SAY RIGHT NOW, BUT MODELS ARE PAINTING AN EVEN BRIGHTER PICTURE FOR RAIN EARLY NEXT WEEK. I PREFER TO WAIT AND WATCH THIS POSSIBILITY FOR ANOTHER COUPLE DAYS BEFORE REACHING THAT CONCLUSION WITH AN CERTAINTY.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, LOW NEAR 70. LIGHT SOUTH WIND.
WEDNESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, HIGH 93. SOUTH WIND 5 TO 15.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, LOW 90S.
WEEKEND: PARTLY CLOUDY, 20% CHANCE FOR RAIN, LOW 90'S.

Drying Out & Warming Up Today:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Welcome to July! June ended on a wet note for many of you, especially in the Heartland, but overall many of us ended the month on a dry note. The official climate data at Abilene Regional Airport goes down with -0.54" of rainfall for the month. So far, we're still on the upside for the year with a surplus of +1.20" and we would gladly take more but dry weather is settling back in to our area.
* Stalled out front is still down across the southern Edwards Plateau and the Hill Country this morning and will slowly fizzle out. We're not expecting any rain off this system, but clouds from rains that do develop well south of here will drift northward today so expect a few in the sky. It will be warmer today with highs back in the lower 90s but I expect it to be a bit cooler across the Heartland thanks to some more clouds and from the multiple inch rains in recent days. Partly Cloudy with highs in the middle 90s is the forecast heading into the holiday weekend,

Scattered Showers & Storms Today:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
* Stationary frontal boundary remains stalled over the Edwards Plateau and Southwestern Texas this morning. Southerly flow over the front is helping kick off showers and thunderstorms across the Concho Valley and Heartland this morning. This activity will develop and drift northward during the day. The best chances for rain today will be south of Interstate 20... mainly over the Concho Valley and Heartland. I am going to include an isolated storm chance for all areas today here in the Big Country. The main deal today will be the overcast conditions.
* The front gradually drifts further south tonight and tomorrow and falls apart but we'll still see cloouds from time to time tomorrow in our area. Down the road a heat ridge will slowly build in from the west helping warm things up as we approach the holiday weekend.

FROM THE KRBC TRIPLE DOPPLER WEATHER LAB ...
THE RAINS HAVE BEEN GENEROUS ACROSS THE AREA SINCE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE FRONT THAT PUSHED DOWN INTO THE AREA SATURDAY STALLED ACROSS THE SOUTHERN COUNTIES IN THE KRBC VIEWING AREA AND HAS CAUSED MORE SHOWERS AND STORMS TO FORM TODAY. THIS VERY TROPICAL WEATHER PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO LAST THROUGH MONDAY BEFORE SOME SLIGHTLY DRIER AIR PUSHES IN.
AS WE GO THROUGH THE WORK WEEK, WE WILL COME UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT. WHAT THAT MEANS FOR US IS THE POTENTIAL FOR ANY STORMS WHICH DEVELOP IN THE TEXAS PAHANDLE OR NORTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO TO DRIFT OUR WAY, MUCH LIKE WE'VE SEEN THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS. IT IS SOMETHING WE HAVE TO LOOK AT DAY TO DAY AS THE WEEK GOES ON.
TONIGHT: SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AREA, LOW NEAR 68. EAST WIND 5 TO 10.
MONDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS, HIGH 90. EAST WIND 10 TO 15.
MONDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, 68.

Changes Coming This Weekend
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ......
My Thursday afternoon analysis shows signs of bringing some much needed rain into our area Sunday into Monday which also means cooler temperatures.
We'll have to depend on a cold front to drop into our area - and it looks like once it gets here it'll hang out somewhere between I-20 and I-10. This could mean significant rain because this time of year, fronts tend to stall and storms tend to move very slowly so if we generate rain, it may linger a while. From what I'm seeing now, the front should approach our area Saturday night into Sunday with our best chance for rain Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning. Keep your fingers crossed.
Thursday Night: Clear to partly cloudy, low 73. South wind 10 to 15.
Friday: Partly cloudy and hot, 99. South wind 10 to 20.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, an isolated storm possible, 74.
Saturday: Partly cloudy, 20% chance of morning showers - then a 20% chance of a late day thunderstorm. High 95.
Saturday Night: A 30% chance for thunderstorms, low 72.
Sunday: Cooler - Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance for thunderstorms - high near 88.
Sunday Night: A 40% chance for thunderstorms, low 68.
Monday: A 40% chance for thunderstorms, high 88.
Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, low 68, 20% chance for storms.

TOMORROW: PARTLY CLOUDY, 20% CHANCE FOR STORMS, HIGH 96, SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15.
FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, 20% CHANCE FOR STORMS, MIDDLE 90'S.
An Isolated Storm Possible Today:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
* Clouds from a dying complex of thunderstorms to our northwest will drift across the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley this morning. These stick around a few hours this morning and gradually begin to break up as we expect partly cloudy skies today.
* An outflow boundary from the dying complex of storms remains over West Central Texas and with daytime heating, could develop some isolated thunderstorms across our area. Rain chances are very small, at only about 10-percent, but at this rate, any rain is welcomed across West Central Texas.
* Heat ridge builds in from the west, but it still looks like the really blazing hot weather (upper 90s/low 100s) should stay just to our west. Having said that, it will be warm here with middle to upper 90s through the weekend.

Isolated T-Storms Tonight ...
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
I'M GOING WITH A 20% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT - HIT AND MISS VARIETY BUT A LITTLE DISTURBANCE SWINGS THROUGH THAT COULD GIVE SELECTED AREAS A SHOWER. OTHERWISE, NO BIG CHANGES TO THE FORECAST - AN OVERALL DRY AND VERY WARM WEATHER PATTERN THROUGH THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, 20% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS, LOW NEAR 73. SOUTH WIND 5 TO 10.
TOMORROW: PARTLY CLOUDY AND HOT, HIGH 97. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY LOUDY AND 72, IDOLATED HIT AND MISS SHOWER OR T-STORM POSSIBLE.
THURSDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, NEAR 97.

Hot & Mostly Dry Weather Continues:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
* Once again this morning we start off with morning clouds from one dying complex of thunderstorms to our northwest and one over the Permian Basin. Clouds will stick around a few hours this morning and gradually begin to break up as we expect partly cloudy skies today.
* The morning forecast models runs are stilll pointing toward another complex of thunderstorms to form in the Panhandle of Texas tonight and drop southeastward. It think it will be the same senario as last night that these storms will fall apart over the northwestern portions of the Big Country so will focus on that area for the best chance of rain tonight and early Wednesday morning,
* Heat ridge builds to our west but it now appears the really extreme heat will remain across the Permian Basin and Trans-Pecos. It will be hot here with highs in the middle 90s... a few degrees above the average highs in the lower 90s.

HOT - MOSTLY DRY
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
THE WEATHER PATTERN IS BASICALLY A DRY PATTERN THIS WEEK. THIS PATTERN ALSO LENDS ITSELF TO THE OCCASIONAL ISOLATED AFTERNOON OR EVENING SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM ALTHOUGH THE PROBABILITY FOR THAT IS SO LOW, I'LL JUST LEAVE A MENTION OF ISOLATED IN THE FORECAST BUT WON'T PUT A PERCENTAGE ON IT AT THIS TIME. IF YOU GET A SHOWER, YOU'LL BE LUCKY. OUR FIRST FULL WEEK OF SUMMER WILL FEATURE AFTERNOON HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 90'S, OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOW 70'S.
MONDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, 71, SOUTHEAST WIND 5 TO 10. AN ISOLATED STORM IS POSSIBLE.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, HIGH 97. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 20.
TUESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, LOW 71.
WEDNESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, 97.

Hot Weather Builds Back Into Texas:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
* Cloudy conditions start the morning off as a dying complex of thunderstorms that dropped southeast overnight has fallen apart to our northwest. Clouds will stick around a few hours this morning and gradually begin to break up as we expect partly cloudy skies today.
* Forecast models are suggesting another complex of storms will form in the Panhandle of Texas tonight and drop southeastward. We'll have to watch where these end up but for now we'll introduce a chance for storms in the forecast package for tonight. Depending on the development and track, that chance may need to up the rain chances tonight. (Check out the afternoon forecast later today with Randy Turner)
* Heat ridge to our west will try to build into West Central Texas but it may hold just a little to our west to keep the really extreme heat across the Permian Basin and Trans-Pecos. It will be hot here with highs in the middle 90s... a few degrees above the average highs in the lower 90s.

Overnight T-Storms Becoming Common
FROM THE KRBC WEATHER LAB ..
NO MAJOR CHANGES TO THE FORECAST FOR TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THE WAY OUR UPPER LEVEL WINDS ARE SET UP, AND THE WAY STORMS ARE FORMING LATE AFTERNOON IN SOUTHEASTERN COLORADO AND NORTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO, I EXPECT MORE T-STORMS TO ADVANCE INTO THE BIG COUNTRY TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING, SOME WITH HEAVY RAIN AND POSSIBLY DAMAGING WIND AND HAIL.
THE SAME SCENARIO WILL LIKELY TAKE PLACE AGAIN LATE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING, AND TO A LESSER EXTENT FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY.
WESTERN BIG COUNTRY COUNTIES EXPERIENCED LOTS OF RAIN LAST NIGHT, 2 TO 3 INCHES IN SPOTS, SO THEIR HIGHS TODAY WERE MUCH COOLER. OTHER PARTS OF THE BIG COUNTRY RECEIVED A QUARTER TO A HALF INCH.
TONIGHT: A 30% CHANCE FOR RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS, LOW NEAR 70. SOME STORMS SEVERE WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN AND DAMAGING WIND. OTHERWISE, EAST NORTHEAST WIND AT 10.
THURSDAY: MORNING SHOWERS END, THEN PARTLY SUNNY WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW 90'S.
THURSDAY NIGHT: LATE NIGHT STORMS AGAIN CARRYING INTO FRIDAY MORNING. LOW NEAR 70.

STORMS LIKELY TONIGHT
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
THUNDERSTORMS ARE IN YOUR FORECAST TONIGHT HERE IN THE KRBC VIEWING AREA, AND A FEW COULD BECOME SEVERE WITH DOWNBURST WINDS, HAIL AND VERY HEAVY RAINFALL. STORMS BEGAN DEVELOPING THIS AFTERNOON IN NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO, ON THE RATON MESA. THOSE STORMS SHOULD MATERIALIZE INTO A LINE OF STORMS, MOVE SOUTHEAST AND EVENTUALLY WORK THROUGH THE ENTIRE KRBC VIEWING AREA BY NOON TOMORROW MORNING.
THIS TIME OF YEAR IT IS COMMON TO SEE STORMS DEVELOP THIS WAY BUT REMEMBER THEY USUALLY ALWAYS PRODUCE STRONG, SOMETIMES DAMAGING, WIND SO STAY ALERT. AFTER THE STORMS PASS TOMORROW, THE WEATHER SHOULD BE CALM AND TEMPERATURES NOTICEABLY COOLER. GONG INTO THURSDAY, MAINLY DRY BUT THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY WE CAN'T RULE OUT ANOTHER AREA OF STORMS BUT THEY SHOULD MAINLY AFFECT AREAS TO OUR NORTH. THIS NIGHT TIME THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY MAY PERSIST THROUGH FRIDAY BEFORE WE RETURN TO A DRY PATTERN.
TONIGHT: T-STORMS LIKELY, SOME SEVERE WITH HEAVY RAIN. LOW OF 69. EAST AND NORTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15 EXCEPT STRONG AND GUSTY AROUND STORMS.
WEDNESDAY: CLOUDS IN THE MORNING, PARTLY CLOUDY AFTERNOON. HIGH 92. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY, ISOLATED STORMS, LOW OF 71.
THURSDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY AND 95.

MAINLY HOT - BUT SOME RAIN IN THE FORECAST ..
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
THE HOT STREAK CONTINUED TODAY AND THE SAME BASIC PATTERN WILL DOMINATE BUT WE HAVE A COUPLE OPPORTUNITIES OVER THE NEXT TWO OR THREE DAYS TO SNEAK SOME RAIN INTO THE PICTURE.
FIRST, HIGH PRESSURE CONTROLS OUR WEATHER DURING THE SUMMER, DOWNWARD SINKING AIR LIKE A BUBBLE SITTING OVER US, KEEPING STORM SYSTEMS AWAY. BUT THIS WEEK THE HIGH LOOKS LIKE IT MAY DRIFT A LITTLE WEST WHICH WOULD ALLOW ANY STORMS NORTHWEST OF OUR AREA TO DRIFT INTO THE REGION. THAT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD HAPPEN TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING AND POSSIBLY WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY MORNING. THIS IS ALL PREDICATED ON STORMS DEVELOPING TO OUR NORTH AND MOVING IN. AS THE HIGH RESETS ITSELF CLOSER TO US BY THE END OF THE WEEK, WE RETURN TO HOT AND DRY WEATHER.
TONIGHT: AN ISOLATED STORM POSSIBLE, OTHERWISE PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A LOW OF 74. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 15.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A HIGH OF 97 AND AN ISOLATED LATE STORM POSSIBLE.
TUESDAY NIGHT: A THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP NORTH AND MOVE INTO THE BIG COUNTRY, A 30% CHANCE FOR RAIN AT THIS TIME. LOW NEAR 71.

Hot Weather Today:
Good Morning from KRBC Meterologist Chris Whited...
* Temperatures will soar back into the upper 90s and lower 100s today across the Big Country, Heartland, and Northern Concho Valley. We have still not reached 100 yet for the year here in Abilene, in fact the last time we saw official numbers in the triple digits was back on August 25, 2006!
* As we have been seeing the last several nights, a complex of thunderstorms will form up across the Panhandle and Texoma and drift south and eastward this evening and tonight. A few of these storms could hold together and affect the Big Country later tonight.
* There is a slight risk for severe weather outlined by the SPC for today, mainly for areas north of US 380 or a Apermont - Haskell - Throckmorton line.

Really Hot - Mostly Dry - Can't Rule Out T-Storms
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
OUR HOT AND DRY PATTERN WILL DOMINATE WEATHER HEADLINES THIS WEEK WITH ONE EXCEPTION. TUESDAY NIGHT THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP NORTH OF OUR AREA AND MOVE SOUTH INTO THE BIG COUNTRY - SO I'VE INCLUDED A 30% CHANCE OF STORMS TUESDAY NIGHT.
TEMPERATURES WILL BE VERY HOT THIS WEEK - 102 MONDAY IS THE HOTTEST - COOLEST AT 92 ON WEDNESDAY - BACK TO UPPER 90'S BY END OF THE WEEK. LOWS WILL BE 70-75.
SOUTH WIND WILL DOMINATE AT 10 TO 15 AT NIGHT AND 15 TO 20 DURING THE DAY, GUSTY AT TIMES.

A SUMMER PATTERN IN STORE
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
ANOTHER HOT DAY TODAY ACROSS THE AREA WITH NO MAJOR CHANGES TO THE TEMPERATURE PATTERN.
IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE SOME THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP ACROSS THE AREA EARLY THIS MORNING - THEY WERE HIT AND MISS - BUT ONE CAME ACROSS THE SOUTH SIDE OF ABILENE AND DROPPED ENOUGH RAIN TO COLLECT ON STREETS AND GIVE LAWNS A GOOD WATERING. A WEAK ATMOSPHERIC BOUNDARY WORKED INTO OUR AREA FROM THE NORTHWEST DURING THE EARLY MORNING, INTERRACTED WITH LOW LEVEL JET MOISTURE, AND CAUSED THE STORMS. AS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE, JUNE IS A TIME OF YEAR WHERE WE SEE OCCASIONAL NOCTURNAL STORMS DEVELOP WHEN CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT.
AN ISOLATED STORM OR TWO CAN'T BE RULED OUT TONIGHT BUT FOR THE MOST PART, THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS STILL LOOK DRY AND WARM.
EXPECT DAYTIME HIGHS TO RANGE FROM 96 TO 100 OVER THE AREA EACH OF THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE LOW TO MIDDLE 70'S. SKIES WILL CONTINUE TO BE MAINLY FAIR WITH OCCASIONAL MORNING LOW CLOUDS GIVING WAY TO SUN BY MID-DAY.
WIND WON'T BE QUITE AS GUSTY TONIGHT OR TOMORROW, BUT STILL ON THE BREEZY SIDE IN THE 10 TO 15 RANGE.

FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
SUMMER HEAT STAYS FOR A FEW DAYS - NO RAIN IN MY FORECAST RIGHT NOW ALTHOUGH THE UPPER LEVEL FLOW TURNS NORTHWEST WEEKEND TIME PERIOD AND EARLY NEXT WEEK SO WE'LL KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR SOME STORMS TO OUR NORTH TO BE PUSHED IN OUR DIRECTION. OTHER THAN THAT, HIGH PRESSURE CONTROLS AND HOT AND DRY WEATHER WILL DOMINATE.
HIGHS THURSDAY 98 TO 103. SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25.
HIGHS FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND: MID 90'S OR HOTTER. LOWS LOW 70'S.

Here We Go Again
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
THERE ISN'T MUCH GOING ON IN THE WEATHER WORLD THIS EVENING. PRETTY TYPICAL WEATHER FOR MID JUNE CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS BUT THERE IS SOMETHING I AM WATCHING FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR RAIN.
IN THE UPPER LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE, OUR WIND WILL SHIFT TO THE NORTHWEST WHICH MEANS STORMS WHICH DEVELOP TO OUR NORTH WILL MOVE SOUTH. THESE TYPICALLY HAPPEN AT NIGHT, SO FRIDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY NIGHT I HAVE INCLUDED A 20% CHANCE FOR STORMS BASED ON THIS UPPER AIR PATTERN.
TEMPERATURES WILL STAY CLOSE TO THE MIDDLE 90'S FOR HIGHS AND LOW 70'S FOR LOWS THROUGH THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS.
THE CHANCE FOR RAIN WILL BE 20% FRIDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY NIGHT.

Hot & Dry Weather Ahead:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
* Busted Forecast! After what looked to be promising rain chance yesterday, we only saw a few showers out of the whole event. The main batch of rain developed and moved off toward North Texas and missed our area. All the model runs were pointing at a good rain event but as you can tell it was a bust. You win some and you lose some... just how it is in life and forecasting weather!
* The remains of the front are stalled out over the Concho Valley this morning. The front should began to retrograde into a warm front and lift northward today. Highs today will climb back into the middle 90s across the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley. This pattern will remain in place through the next seven days. There is also no mentionable rain chances in the forecast.

Strong To Severe Storms Possible Today
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
*** There is a slight risk for severe weather today and tonight across all of the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley. Stay with KRBC throughout the day for any possible watches and warnings ***
* Cold front across the Texas Panhandle and Southern Oklahoma will drift southward today into the Big Country near Interstate 20 by this evening. Expect showers and thunderstorms along this front as it stalls out over West Central Texas today and tonight. Some storms could be severe with the main threat for us today being large hail and damaging winds. The SPC has all of West Central Texas outlined in a slight risk for severe storms today and tonight. Highs today thanks to clouds and rain only in the upper
80s and lower 90s. This looks to be the only decent rain chance in our extended forecast.
The front will gradually drift back northward tomorrow as a warm front with temperatures climbing into the 90s one again. By the end of the week, we will be back into the middle and upper 90s across the area.

CHANCE FOR T-STORMS MONDAY AND SLIGHTLY COOLER
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
IT HAS BEEN ANOTHER HOT AND WINDY DAY ACROSS THE KRBC VIEWING AREA TODAY BUT CHANGES ARE EXPECTED FOR MONDAY. A COLD FRONT, LOCATED IN THE NORTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE THIS EVENING, IS EXPECTED TO GET A NUDGE TO THE SOUTH AND MOVE INTO OUR AREA DURING THE DAY ON MONDAY. THE FRONT SHOULD HELP A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS FORM AND MOVE NORTH TO SOUTH ACROSS THE AREA. A FEW STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE AND OUR AREA IS INCLUDED IN THE SLIGHT RISK AREA FOR SEVERE STORMS MONDAY BY THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER. AFTER THE FRONT WASHES OUT TUESDAY, OUR WARM AND DRY WEATHER RETURNS AND RAIN LOOKS DOUBTFUL FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK.
TONIGHT: CONTINUED WINDY AND MILD, LOW OF 74. AN ISOLATED STORM OR TWO IS POSSIBLE ACROSS OUR NORTHERN VIEWING AREA BEFORE SUNRISE. SOUTHEAST WIND 15 TO 25.
MONDAY: A 40% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS WITH A HIGH IN THE MIDDLE 80'S, WARMER SOUTH OF THE FRONT. WIND SHIFTS GRADUALLY NORTHEAST AND EAST AT 10 TO 15.
MONDAY NIGHT: A 40% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS WITH A LOW IN THE UPPER 60'S.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY AND 92.

SLIGHT CHANCE FOR STORMS THURSDAY NIGHT
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
GOOD EVENING - I HAVE MADE SOME CHANGES TO THE SHORT TERM FORECAST FOR THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY BY ADDING A SLIGHT CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS TO OUR AREA.
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE OUT OF THE ROCKIES INTO THE NORTHERN PLAINS AND PRODUCE NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY TO OUR NORTH. HOWEVER, WE SHOULD BE CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE THE TAIL END OF A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS AFFECT MAINLY AREAS NORTH OF I-20 ON THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING.
TEMPERATURES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL COOL A LITTLE, BUT WILL BE ABOVE NORMAL BY A FEW DEGREES.
SATURDAY, I ALSO ADDED THE MENTION OF ISOLATED SHOWERS WITH A WEAK TROUGH PASSING THROUGH BUT VERY HIT AND MISS.
THE WIND IS GOING TO BE EXTREMELY GUSTY OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS SO HANG ON TO YOUR HAT.
TONIGHT: CLEAR AND WINDY, LAKE WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT. LOW OF 75 WITH SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25 AND GUSTY.
TOMORROW: VERY WINDY AND BLOW TORCH HOT. HIGH OF 96. SOUTHEAST WIND 30 TO 40MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: A 20% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS, LOW NEAR 72.
FRIDAY: MORNING STORMS, THEN PARTLY CLOUDY AND 93.

Not Quite So Hot - But Still Hot
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
THE WEATHER PATTERN SHOWS A LITTLE SIGN OF CHANGE, BUT NOT A DRASTIC SIGN OF CHANGE. IT WILL STILL BE HOT - BUT WE SHOULD FEEL A FEW DEGREES DIFFERENCE TOWARD THE END OF THE WEEK AS THE HIGH GETS BUMPED PARTIALLY OUT OF THE WAY BY A LOW PRESSURE AREA.
FOR NOW, I'M LEAVING RAIN OUT OF THE FORECAST AS THE STORM TRACK SHOULD STAY NORTH OF OUR AREA.
TONIGHT: CLEAR AND WINDY, LOW 73. SOUTH WIND 10 TO 20.
WEDNESDAY: SUNNY AND VERY WINDY. HIGH 99. SOUTHEAST WIND 20 TO 30.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: CLEAR AND 75.
THURSDAY: SUNNY AND 96.

More Heat
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ...
NO MAJOR CHANGES TO MY FORECAST AS TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT IS LIKELY TUESDAY AND AGAIN WEDNESDAY. THE HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE CAUSING THE HEAT SHOULD BEND, BUT NOT BREAK, LATER THIS WEEK AS A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH FROM THE NORTHWEST PUTS A LITTLE PRESSURE ON THE HIGH BUT WON'T TOTALLY MOVE IT. THE END RESULT IS SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES THURSDAY INTO THE WEEKEND, BUT NOT MUCH COOLER. STILL NO RAIN EXPECTED.
MONDAY NIGHT: CLEAR AND WARM, MID 70'S. SOUTH WIND 10 TO 20.
TUESDAY: SUNNY AND HOT, 100, SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25.
TUESDAY NIGHT: CLEAR AND 75.
WEDNESDAY: SUNNY, 100-102, GUSTY SOUTH WIND.

More Heat - Sorry !!!
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
LOTS OF FOLKS STICKING CLOSE TO HOME AND STICKING CLOSE TO THE AIR CONDITIONER OR THE SWIMMING POOL AS A HEAT WAVE GRIPS OUR AREA AND NO RELIEF IS IN SIGHT ANYTIME SOON.
THE HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE WILL DOMINATE OUR WEATHER THROUGH THE FIRST PART OF THE WEEK. WE SHOULD SEE A SLIGHT DECREASE IN TEMPERATURE AROUND MID-WEEK, BUT IT IS STILL GOING TO BE HOT.
RAIN SURE LOOKS DOUBTFUL AT THIS POINT. WINDY AND HOT WILL BE OUR MAIN WEATHER STORY THIS WEEK.
TONIGHT: CLEAR, LOWS IN THE LOW 70'S. SOUTH WIND 10 TO 15.
TOMORROW: SUNNY, WINDY AND HOT - HIGHS NEAR 100. SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25.
MONDAY NIGHT: CLEAR WITH LOWS IN THE LOW 70'S.
TUESDAY: SUNNY, CLOSE TO 100 AGAIN.

HOT AND HOTTER
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER
I'VE MADE NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO MY FORECAST FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS - HIGH PRESSURE IS IN CONTROL WHICH MEANS HOT AND DRY WEATHER. ALL THIS POINTS TO THE PATTERN WANTING TO GO SUMMER TIME ON US ABOUT A MONTH EARLY. THE JET STREAM SHOULD STAY TO OUR NORTH FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS WHICH CARRIES THE STORM TRACK FARTHER NORTH AWAY FROM OUR AREA.
TOMORROW: MOSTLY SUNNY AND 95 - A LITTLE HOTTER WEST OF ABILENE. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 20.
TOMORROW NIGHT: CLEAR AND 71.
WEEKEND: SUNNY AND HOT, UPPER 90'S.

REMINDERS - TO BATTLE THE HEAT, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. TAKE WORK BREAKS - TRY TO GET MOST OF YOUR WORK DONE IN THE MORNINGS OR LATE EVENING - CHECK ON THE ELDERLY AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE COOL ENOUGH - GIVE YOUR PETS PLENTY OF WATER AND SHADE.
TONIGHT: MAINLY CLEAR SKIES WITH A LOW OF 70. SOUTH WIND ABOUT 10.TOMORROW: MOSTLY SUNNY AND 95 - A LITTLE HOTTER WEST OF ABILENE. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 20.

Hot & Dry Pattern Settles Across Texas:
Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited at KRBC...
* Heat ridge will continue to build across western Texas the next few days and keep us in a dry pattern. Heavy rains Tuesday night/Wednesday morning have greened up vegitation and moistened the soil, which in turn will help supress some of the heat the next couple of days. Breezy and warm weather will quickly dry things out so by the weekend, expect numbers close to 100 with some areas in the western Big County and Heartland to reach or possibly exceed 100 degrees.
* Rain Chances: I don't see any rain chances in the forecast for a while so dry pattern will remain in place into at least the end of next week.

HOT AND DRY DAYS AHEAD
FROM KRBC CHIEF METEOROLOGIST RANDY TURNER ..
AFTER MUCH OF THE BIG COUNTRY RECEIVED RAIN LAST NIGHT AND THIS MORNING, THE WEATHER IS RETURNING TO A DRY SITUATION ONCE AGAIN. WHILE AN ISOLATED STORM OR TWO IS POSSIBLE THROUGH LATE EVENING, OUR CHANCE FOR RAIN IS DECREASING. FROM NOW THROUGH THIS TIME NEXT WEEK, IT APPEARS THAT HIGH PRESSURE WILL RULE WHICH MEANS DRY WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A LOW IN THE UPPER 60'S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 TO 10.
TOMORROW: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH A FEW CLOUDS, HIGH NEAR 90. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 TO 20.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH A LOW NEAR 68.
FRIDAY: SUNNY AND 93.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH UPPER 90'S.

Drying Out & Warming Up:
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Nice Soaking Rain: The complex of thunderstorms late last night and early this morning brought a much needed soaking to the Big Country. As of about 5:00 AM this morning, Abilene Regional Airport had picked up 1.27" (Storm Total) and Dyess AFB had picked up about 2.36" (Storm Total) of rain. The Snyder and Sweetwater Airport picked up roughly around 0.50" each while Doppler radar estimates show parts of the Big Country saw 2-3 inches of rain (especially north of US 180). Enjoy this rainfall because this is about all we'll see for a while.
* With the front stalled out in the Southern Big Country/Northern Concho Valley & Heartland, as well as left over outflow boundaries from the storms overnight, there could be an isolated thunderstorm or two today but that is it for rain. A heat ridge of high pressure will build across the Lone Star State spelling hot and dry weather well into next week. The rainfall we saw will help keep highs down some through the early weekend but expect the soil moisture to dry up really quickly. Highs will climb into the upper 90s (with some spots at 100+) by the late weekend and early next week. Dry conditions will persist for the period.
