Heavy Rain Falling in Abilene

Abilenians awoke to thunder and lightning and heavy rain Saturday morning, prompting a Flood Advisory for Taylor County.

The Abilene Regional Airport recorded 1.36 inches of rain between 5:52am and 6:52am Saturday morning.

The National Weather Services issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory from 6:00am to 8:45am as heavy rain first developed across southern Taylor County near Buffalo Gap and Lake Abilene and moved northward over the City of Abilene.

Low water crossings, underpasses and other low lying city streets quickly filled with water as the storms passed.

Elsewhere in the area Breckenridge in Stephens County, northeast of Abilene, was also placed in a Flood Advisory Saturday morning. Heavy rain was also recorded today in Jones, Fisher, Shackelford and Callahan counties.
