Scattered Thunderstorms This Evening & Tonight:

Good Afternoon/Evening from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon and evening across West Central Texas. A few of these storms could be strong with gusty winds, intense lightning and maybe some small hail. Models are right on target with a developing complex of thunderstorms over the Texas Panhandle and across Western Oklahoma this afternoon and evening. Models bring that complex down toward the Big Country overnight. If this complex holds together we could see some decent and much needed rain but still a threat a fwe storms could be strong. We saw one complex do the same thing Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Otherwise tonight expect a partly cloudy sky with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

* Late Week/Weekend: We have a slight chance for thunderstorms on Wednesday, mainly early, with highs in the upper 90s. The rest of week will feature hot and humid weather each day with a partly cloudy sky and highs in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Heat Index values in the afternoons will range between 100-105. Overnight lows remain warm in the middle and upper 70s.

* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.
