Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...* Some clouds around the area this morning, mostly debris clouds left over from thunderstorms last night to our west. Radar quiet early this morning. We'll start off mostly sunny this morning with those high clouds in the area but look for more clouds to develop into midday and the afternoon. There is a very small chance of a stray shower or storm but only about a 10-percent chance today. Forecast highs today in the upper 90s and lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. Heat Index values this afternoon will range from 100-105 across the area.
* Upper level high pressure system continues to dominate our forecast this week. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day and a mostly clear sky each night. Temperatures will remain above normal and hot into the upper 90s and the lower 100s with overnight lows in the middle and upper 70s. The heat index each afternoon will hover around and over 100. Models are bringing temperatures back down in the middle 90s by the late weekend and into early next week, not to mention a slight chance of rain into the area.
* I'm still keeping an eye on the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico as models continue to develop an easterly moving low into a tropical system over the next few days. The National Hurricane Center this morning gives the system a 50-percent chance of going tropical. Computer models are taking this system inland from as far east as the Florida Panhandle to as far west as the Central Louisiana Coast. Don't expect this system to have any impact on our current weather trend as the upper level highs should keep the system and any moisture away from Texas.
* Hot Weather Safety: Medical experts remind everyone to be extremely careful when outside in the hot and humid weather. Some safety tips recommended include drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in a cool spot. Also be sure to check on the elderly and your pets. You should also wear light colored clothing and don't forget to apply the sunscreen regularly. If you can you should up off your outdoor activities until early in the morning and into the evening to avoid the peak heating hours. An average of 175 Americans succumb to hot weather during the summer months across the country.
