I wished I could write that the rain chance was great and that temperatures will be cooling down. It would be nice but the chance for rain is slim and the chance for heat is great.
Our ultimate weather enforcer this time of year is high pressure, allowing heat to build temperatures to at or just above 100 degrees regularly.
A weak upper level feature may spark a few scattered thunderstorms Friday but most areas won't see anything.
For your upcoming weekend, expect more hot and dry weather.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, an isolated storm possible in the southern counties of the KRBC viewing area. Low near 75. South wind at 5.
Friday: Partly cloudy, 20% chance for storms, high 98. Southeast wind 5 to 10.
Saturday and Sunday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny, 100-102 daily, lows middle 70's.

More Heat - A Few Places See Rain

A few areas will see rain, but not many. The pattern continues to have high pressure as our dominant weather feature - but a low pressure trough which is stuck in our area also provides the needed lift to interact with afternoon heating to create scattered showers and storms.
At night, a low level jet stream also adds some moisture to the equation which allows some storms to persist into the overnight hours.
Storms that develop will typically move very slowly this time of year, due to lack of any significant upper level steering winds. Therefore, localized areas can see some heavy rainfall - but most areas miss out entirely. such is summer weather here in the Big Country.

THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL SYSTEM DOLLY WILL SPREAD CLOUDS THROUGH OUR AREA TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY. A FEW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP IN THE HILL COUNTRY AND MOVE INTO THE SOUTHERN BIG COUNTRY. THE CHANCE FOR RAIN SHOULD MOSTLY BE TONIGHT BUT CAN'T RULE OUT A SHOWER OR TWO TOMORROW.

Hot Weather Continues
Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...
* Dolly is approaching the Lower Rio Grande Valley this morning as I write this blog bringing very heavy rain to south Texas. I talked to a good friend of mine who is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi who reports very heavy rainfall with the northern bands moving across that area. I asked him to please share because we really need a good soaking rain up this way. Speaking of Dolly and rain, it looks like we are going to miss out on any rain from Dolly...models tend to say everything will stay around I-10 and southward. Just clouds from the system working up this way.
* Speaking of rain, we are now officially below normal on rainfall for the year. As of this morning, Abilene is now 0.01" below normal on rainfall. The US Drought Monitor has most of the Big Country under D0-Abnormally Dry drought conditions, while the far Eastern and Western Big Country, Heartland, and Northern Concho Valley are under D1-Moderate Drought Conditions.
* Our forecast will remain hot and dry for the next seven days with highs in the upper 90s and lows into the middle 70s with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. I will be somewhat cooler to end the week thanks to more clouds because of Dolly, but still plenty of heat for the area.

Hot & Dry To Start The Week

* High pressure will dominate the weather pattern through the week across the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley. Highs will be a few degrees above normal into the upper 90s through next week with overnight lows about normal for this time of the year into the lower 70s. Humidity will be kinda high as well, so it will be a bit sticky. We'll keep an eye to the Gulf of Mexico on Dolly to see if it could change my forecast come late week.
* Rain Chances: Pattern does not look good for well organized rain event for the next seven days. Having said that, there could be a stray thunderstorm pop up in the daytime heating, especially with upper 90s and higher humidity values. It looks as if the rain from Dolly will stay well south of the KRBC viewing area. We'll only see some increased cloud cover come late week.

There is a slight chance for isolated t-storms today, mainly in the far western Big Country. The moisture surge/axis has shifted somewhat west from yesterday.
* Down the road, temperatures remain slightly above normal into the upper 90s with lows in the lower to middle 70s. Look for partly cloudy days and night through the next seven days. With the daytime heating, there could be a few widely isolated storms pop up each afternoon and early evening.

* Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and eveningacross the Big Country. Another band this morning is just moving across the northern areas. We finally picked up some rainfall in Abilene during the evening hours on Tuesday... officially 0.01" (just enough to wet the roads and pavement) while north of I-20 some areas got another good soaking.
* Upper high has shifted a little farther southwest over the last 24hours. This is allowing the weak shortwaves rotating around the periphery to a little farther south than last night. The best moisture fetch is running right across our area so expect a occasional showers and storms to develop during the day in random spots.

* A front remains semi-stalled to our south across the Southern Concho Valley and Edwards Plateau. Along and north of this boundary, we will see scattered showers and thunderstorms develop in the daytime heating. The best rain chances look to be this afternoon and evening as the front slowly washes out to our south. Rain chances will remain in the forecast tonight and Tuesday, although only at slight chances.
* Ridge will build over Texas as we get into the week with daytime highs warming back to normal and just above normal into the upper 90s as we get into the week.

* An area of high pressure continues to sit across the Southeast. Southeasterly flow around the high continues bring moisture from the Gulf of Mexico across Texas. With daytime heating combined with this ample moisture supply, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across the Big Country, Heartland and Concho Valley today. Also look for more cloudy cover today as well. A cold front to the north will make it's final push southward before stalling over the Red River/Texoma area late tonight. This front will kick off some storms over the northern Big County as well.
* Enjoy the rain while we have it as the the high will shift westward as we approach the end of the week shutting the Gulf of Mexico moisture off from Texas so we'll return to a dry pattern by the end of the week. Temperatures by the weekend will be back in the middle and upper 90s. Would not be surprised to see the triple digits in a few spots.

* An area of high pressure sits to our east across the Deep South and with this feature to our east, this puts us in southeasterly flow bringing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico across the Lone Star State. With daytime heating, a few thunderstorms will be possible today across the area.
* Models suggest a disturbance will rotate around the high and move into south Texas and work it's way north tomorrow helping increase rain chances. A cold front to the north is trying it's best to work southward at the same time. Showers and thunderstorms that develop on this front will work into the northern Big Country tomorrow afternoon and evening. For now, it looks like the best chance of rain is for Tuesday afternoon and evening.
* The high will shift some westward toward mid-week shutting the Gulf of Mexico moisture off from Texas so we'll return to a dry pattern by the end of the week.
* Temperatures will be in the upper 80s and lower 90s the next few days thanks to rain and cloud cover. Highs will climb back into the middle 90s come the end of the week.
