* Weather quiet this morning but another warm one with temperatures at the time I am blogging here in the low 80s and upper 70s. Expect mostly sunny conditions today but will watch the dryline out to the west. Isolated storms will develop along the dryline late in the afternoon and may drift into the western counties. Another hot day with highs near 100° and lows in the middle 70s. Expect about the same weather conditions on Tuesday for the Big Country as well.

* Hot Pattern: The ridge will hold in place the rest of the week keeping rain chances on the low and temperatures on the hot side. Expect highs each afternoon between 97-100° and lows at night into the middle 70s. Mostly sunny conditions will prevail.

* Summer Solstice: Summer will officially arrive here in West Texas when the Summer Solstice occurs Sunday, June 21 (Father's Day) at 12:45 AM Central Time. Of course, we all know summer has already been around a while!

Isolated Storms & Hot This Monday:

* Mostly cloudy this morning with a few isolated showers in spots. The clouds will begin to thin out as we head into the day. Look for partly cloudy conditions with isolated storms late in the afternoon in the western counties which may drift into the rest of the area (if they hold together) this evening. Isolated Storms Through Monday - But Mainly Hot

Storms will be possible across mainly the northern and western Big Country Sunday evening and again Monday afternoon and evening. But the overall trend for this week is for a ridge of high pressure to begin dominating our weather. That means hot and dry weather.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at times. Low near 74. South wind 5 to 15. A 20% chance for thunderstorms, some which could be severe.

Monday: Partly cloudy and hot, high near 100 with a slight chance for afternoon thunderstorms, some which may become severe. South wind 15 to 20 with gusts to 25.

Monday Night: Evening thunderstorms mainly west and north Big Country, partly cloudy, low near 73.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and hot, 99. South wind 10 to 20.

Wednesday through Friday: Mostly clear, highs upper 90's, lows low to mid 70's.

A weak cold front may drift into the northern Big Country Friday night, we'll have to wait and see IF that can happen and IF some storms could develop as a result.

Hot Weather, Isolated Storms This Weekend:

* Mostly clear this morning but the clouds will build by midday and into the afternoon mostly across the Eastern Big Country. There will still be a chance of an isolated storm or two popping up, with the best chances east of Abilene as the dryline moves eastward today. Highs warm into theupper 90s today with lows tonight into the lower 70s.

* Hot weather pattern returns into the weekend across the area. Daytime highs will climb into the upper 90s with a few spots in the low 100s across the Big Country. Overnight lows stay into the lower 70s. There is a chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms in any given spot of the Big Country.

Storms Possible Friday and Saturday

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ...

Severe thunderstorms affected Callahan, Eastland, Brown and Comanche County Thursday afternoon. Those areas, along with others, could see more storms develop on Friday afternoon.

In addition, I've added a 30 percent chance for storms on Saturday, which is a change from my previous forecast on Wednesday. Reason being a weak frontal boundary progged to drop into the northern Big Country. I also am a little concerned that areas that receive rain Saturday will see a potential of flooding, so we will keep an eye on that potential.

Friday and Saturday, any storm which develops, will be capable of producing severe weather, primarily large hail and damaging wind in excess of 60mph. Isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out.

Now to the temperatures. Mid to upper 90's here in Abilene look good for Friday. Humidity will be high too, so hot and steamy best describes our weather.

We'll likely see some 100 plus temperatures in western and southern counties of the KRBC viewing area. Case in point, San Angelo hit 107 degrees on Thursday, one degree away from a record for the date.

Hot and humid, afternoon and evening storms possible, some severe, going into the weekend.

* Mostly cloudy this morning with some isolated showers in spots across the Big Country. As we go into the day, especially the afternoon afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop and eventually we will begin to see thunderstms developing across the area for the late afternoon and evening hours. Highs in the lower 90s today with lows tonight around the lower 70s.

* There will be a continuing chance of thunderstorms over most of the Big Country today, tonight and tomorrow. One or two storms could become severe, with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center has our area under a slght risk for today, tonight and tomorrow.

* Summer-like forecast pattern returns for the later half of the week and into the weekend across the area. Daytime highs will remain in the middle and upper 90s across the Big Country with overnight lows into the lower 70s.

Chance for Storms Continues

I'm writing this update at 3:35pm on Tuesday concerning the storm potential this afternoon and evening. It's awfully warm and humid outside but a canopy of clouds has acted to keep the storms from developing as early today.

I still think we'll see some kick offf to the West of Abilene later in the evening. Some storms may continue into the overnight.

As we get into Wednesday, I've put the chance for storms at 40 percent during the day as storms are possible during the work day on Wednesday, continuing into the evening hours.

I'll leave a daily slight chance for storms in the forecast on Thursday and Friday as well.

As we saw Monday night, storms will be capable of damaging wind in excess of 60mph and large hail. Check our website, www.bigcountryhomepage.com, for stories and pictures concerning the damage across town last night.

I talked to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, they suspect the damage was caused by strong straight-line winds. Dyess AFB recorded a wind gust of 79mph last night, which is comparable to a Category 1 hurricane.

Temperatures will be around 90 Wednesday but middle 90's Thursday and Friday with upper 90's this weekend.

Scattered Afternoon & Evening Thunderstorms:

* Mostly clear this morning across the Big Country after last nights severe weather episode. Just like yesterday, as we go into the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop and eventually we will begin to see thunderstms developing across the area. Highs in the lower 90s today with lows tonight around the lower 70s.

* There will be a continuing chance of thunderstorms over most of West Central Texas through midweek, with a chance of thunderstorms over primarily the Big Country into thursday night. While organized severe weather is not expected, One or two storms could become severe, with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats.

Storm Potential This Afternoon and Tonight

It's going to be a stormy afternoon for some residents of the Big Country, especially along and north of I-20. The dry line approaching from the West, a cold front trying to make it into our area from the north and the 90-plus degree heat is why storms are expected to fire up.

Once they do, they will be capable of producing large hail and damaging wind. Hail to golfball size or larger will be possible. Winds of 60 or higher will be possible. Locally heavy downpours and dangerous lightning strikes are also expected.

The storms will likely move 10 to 20 miles per hour in an east or northeasterly direction.

Stay alert to rapidly changing weather conditions late this afternoon and tonight.

Tuesday and Wednesday, we will continue to see a slight chance for a late day storm or two.

* Summer-like forecast pattern remains in place as we start the new work week across the area. Daytime highs will remain in the middle and upper 90s across the Big Country with overnight lows into the lower 70s. Moisture fetch from the Pacific is flowing over the southwestern states and across Mexico into Texas. This flow could contain some isolated disturbances that could help fire off storms. Otherwise, partly cloudy conditions are expected each day and with daytime heating an isolated thunderstorm or two is possible each afternoon through mid-week.

* Looks like very small rain chances at the end of the week and into the weekend but hotter with highs into the upper 90s and lows still around 70 each night.

Isolated Storms Late Day / Overnight

Daily late afternoon, evening and early night thunderstorms will remain a possibility through the middle of the week. The dry line to the west, a weak cold front possibly stalling across the northern Big Country Monday, then some upper level support all keep the chance for storms in the forecast.

Temperatures are also going to remain hot each day and humid and warm at night.

As we saw Saturday night, thunderstorms can produce some high wind which approaches hurricane speed, especially as storms die and release their energy.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy with a slight chance for storms. Low of 70. South wind 10 to 15.

Monday: Partly cloudy and hot with an isolated late day storm. High of 97. South wind 10 to 15.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy with scattered storms, low near 72, slightly cooler near storms.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy, breezy and hot, high 97. Slight chance for storms.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy and 95 with a slight chance for storms.

Summer-Like Pattern This Weekend:

* The weather pattern for West Central Texas is pretty much setting up to a typical summer-like pattern for the area (even though summer officially isn't here yet) for the next seven days. A ridge to our west will build in across the Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley warming us well into the middle and upper 90s, with some spots into the lower 100s. Lows at night will pretty much stay around 70 each night. Partly cloudy conditions are expected each day and with daytime heating an isolated thunderstorm is possible each afternoon.

Isolated T-Storms Possible Late Each Day

Looking ahead to the weekend - a few areas of the Big Country may see some thunderstorms. It now appears that storms will develop each afternoon and evening Friday, Saturday and Sunday across eastern New Mexico or West Texas.

With upper level winds blowing from the northwest, the storms will tend to drift in our direction. For that reason, I've added a slight chance for storms this weekend. Given our heat and moisture, storms could become strong to severe and carry into the overnight hours as well.

Otherwise, the big weather story is going to be the heat, and plenty of it. Temperatures should be back to around 90 on Friday, 96 by Saturday, 97 on Sunday. Overnight lows near 70 this weekend.

Warming Up Through the Weekend

After a quiet weather day Wednesday, with a high of 82 in Abilene, temperatures will begin warming up Thursday and rocket into the mid to upper 90's this weekend.

The chance for rain looks slim, can't totally rule out some storms moving from the Panhandle or eastern New Mexico in our general direction Thursday night or Friday night, but will leave the forecast dry for now.

The warmer temperatures will be the big story. Highs in the middle 80's Thursday will be followed by the low 90's on Friday and 95-98 degrees over the weekend.

Overnight lows will range from 67-71 going into the weekend.

Decreasing Clouds & Cooler Today:

* A complex of thunderstorms is moving across Texoma this morning and will slip across the far northern Big Country this morning, staying mainly north of US 380. An outflow boundary from this complex has moved south and now is sitting along and just north of US 180. The complex will continue to move east with a general southeastern jog and should stay east of most of our area. Once we get daytime heating, we could start to see isolated thunderstorms developing along the outflow boundary. Some of these storms could be severe. I will keep the rain chance for today at 30% for the area.

* The cold front continues to drop in from the north this morning across the Big Country. Rain has pretty much ended for the area, although there could be a few lingering sprinkles or a light shower this morning. Clouds will hang for a while today and slowly we will begin to break up the cloud cover. Any storms today should be well south of the area ahead of the cold front. Highs today will be in the upper 70s and the lower 80s thanks to the cloud cover and rainfall yesterday evening and last night. Lows tonight dip into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

* A quick warming trend will arrive as we get late into the week as a ridge builds over the area bringing very warm and dry weather. The warming trend will begin on Friday and we will warm well into the middle and upper 90s Friday and most spots will be near or just abover 100° over the weekend.

* Next Week: Temperatures drop back some for the area into the lower and middle 90s. Long range models show the high flattening out and a trough out west working into the area that could bring us some more rain chances Monday night and early Tuesday.

* A complex of thunderstorms is moving across Texoma this morning and will slip across the far northern Big Country this morning, staying mainly north of US 380. * A cold front will drop in from the north tonight and will be a focal point for showers and thunderstorms. The models develop another complex of thunderstorms to our north and west and drop it southeast overnight. One mocdel brings the main complex over the Big Country while another keeps the complex a little further north across Texoma. Still feel we have a good chance for storms tonight. Some storms could be severe. Will forecast the rain chance for tonight at 50% for the area.

* Severe Weather Threat: The Storm Prediction Center has all of the area outlined in a "slight" risk for severe thunderstorms for today, tonight and early on Wednesday morning with the primary threats being large hail and damaging winds. There could also be some flooding issues due to very heavy rainfall in spots.

* Temperatures will be warm today in the lower 90s but the front and rain chances will cool us down into the upper 70s and lower to middle 80s tomorrow and Thursday. A dry and warming trend will begin on Friday and we will warm well into the middle
90s on Friday and most spots near 100° over the weekend.

* Next Week: Temperatures drop back some for the area into the lower and middle 90s. Long range models show the high flattening out and a trough out west working into the area that could bring us some more rain chances.

Rain Chance Looks Good

Thunderstorms remain in your forecast through Wednesday. By mid-afternoon Monday, thunderstorms were already developing in the Texas Panhandle. Those should slowly move southeast and make their way through the Big Country tonight.

On Tuesday, afternoon heating ahead of a cold front should lead to enough instability to create another round of thunderstorms.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, a cold front will drop into the area which means another round of thunderstorms. During the day Wednesday, showers and storms are expected.

This time of year, with the upper level winds much lighter, the storms will tend to move slowly, dumping heavy rain wherever they travel.

Some storms on Tuesday also have the potential to become severe with hail and high wind the primary threats. Lightning is also a constant danger with these storms, so make sure you take shelter inside a sturdy building where it's safer.

Flash Flooding may become an issue as well through Wednesday.

By Thursday, a drier pattern sets up for the weekend.

* A few isolated showers in the Abilene area this morning but much heavier rainfall across the far Western Big Country and Northern Concho Valley this morning as a complex of storms continues to drop south and east this morning.

* Expect partly cloudy conditions today with a chance of a few thunderstorms mainly this afternoon across the area. Best chance for rain and storms will probably be late tonight as another complex of storms is expected to develop over the far west and move into the Big Country overnight from the northwest. These complexes, MCS's as we call then, can bring very heavy rainfall in a given area. Models are hinting at one or two of these the next couple of days. A front will drop down into the area late Tuesday and Wednesday and will also be the focal point for rain chances as well.

* Temperatures will be warm the next two day into the upper 80s and lower 90s but the front and rain chances will cool us down into the middle 80s by midweek. A dry and warming trend will begin on Friday and we will warm well into the middle 90s over the weekend.

Chance for Rain Through Wednesday

A few isolated thunderstorms had developed late Sunday evening south of Brownwood and to the north of Big Spring. The storms were moving to the North at a slow rate of speed.

With the influence of an upper level low in the southwest U.S., a few storms are possible Sunday night. With heat and instability on Monday, more showers and storms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and night.

Going into Tuesday, still expecting scattered storms. Then a cold front comes Tuesday night into Wednesday meaning more scattered storms.

Temperatures will be hot Monday and Tuesday, at or just above 90, slightly cooler in the 80's Wednesday, then hot and dry with highs back in the 90's from Thursday through the next weekend.

Dry & Warm Weekend Ahead:

* Look for mostly sunny conditions today with highs climbing into the upper 80s across the Big Country and lows at night into the lower 60s. Not expecting any thunderstorms today and any storms that develop should be well south of the area today.

* The Weekend: High pressure will settle into the area as we go into the end of the week and into the weekend. Look for daytime highs to warm back into the lower 90s and overnight lows into the middle 60s.

* Next Week: High pressure remains in control and this morning the models are bringing even warmer weather into the area for the middle of next week. Highs will climb into the middle 90s by that period.

Scattered Thunderstorms on Thursday

I'm expecting some scattered thunderstorms to develop Thursday afternoon and evening around the KRBC viewing area. Similar to what we saw Tuesday night, storms will move slowly, some producing some locally heavy downpours and a few may produce hail and damaging winds.

Temperatures in the middle 80's can be expected Thursday but closer to 90 on Friday. Temperatures through the upcoming weekend should be in the low 90's during the day and mid 60's at night.

* The front is well south of the area this morning across the Concho Valley. A few lingering showers continue north of Interstate 20 this morning. Most of the rain should be gone my mid-morning. Look for partly cloudy conditions today with an storms redeveloping to our south. Cooler thanks to the rain and cloud cover with highs in the lower 80s and lows tonight in the upper 50s.

* Will maintain a chance for an isolated thunderstorm on Thursday as some storms are expected to develop to the west and linger into the Big Country. Highs climb back into the middle 80s across the area.

* Looking Ahead: High pressure will settle into the area as we go into the end of the week and into the weekend. Look for daytime highs to warm back into the lower
90s and overngiht lows into the middle 60s. Models are hinting at isolated rain chances early next week but I am going to leave them out of the forecast for now.

Rain Likely Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning

A cold front moves into the area tonight and that should help thunderstorms develop.

A few storms could become severe with large hail and damaging wind the primary threats.

Storms this time of year tend to move slower (due to lighter upper level winds driving them) so they tend to dump heavy rain. Some localized flooding is possible in the heavier storms.

They should be most numerous between the hours of 9pm tonight and 9am Wednesday but a few storms could persist to noon Wednesday, then become more isolated.

Temperature tonight near 59. Wind shifts north 5 to 15. Rain likely, some storms severe.

Temperature Wednesday near 82, mainly morning rain and thunderstorms, less likely late in the day. North wind 10 to 15.

Temperature Wednesday night near 60, isolated shower possible.

Temperature Thursday near 86 with a slight 20 percent chance for storms.

* A weak front/outflow boundary sits to the west today and will be a focal point for isolated storms late this afternoon across the Big Country. Highs will be warm into the upper 80s and lows tonight in the lower 60s.

* A secondary cold front is forecasted to drop in from the north on late tonightinto early Wednesday and will be a lifting factor to develop more showers and storms for the Big Country. Will increase the rain chance to about a 50% for tonight. Rain will linger into Wednesday morning with an isolated storm late afternoon.

* Late Week/Weekend: It looks dry from midweek and into next weekend. Average high temperatures with highs in the middle and upper 80s and lows in the middle 60s.

* Drought Update: These rains we are seeing are slowly helping improve the drought a little. The latest update of the US Drought monitor has severe conditions across the central core of the Big Country, extreme conditions across the far Northern and Northeastern Big Country while the rest of the area Eastern/Western Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley have dropped back to moderate conditions.

More Rain in the Forecast

From the KRBC Weather Lab ....

The rain is still in the forecast. While most of the viewing area was rain free on Memorial Day, a series of upper level disturbances and a cold front Tuesday night should lead to more rain.

This time of year, the activity tends to be slow moving and can bring drenching rain to local areas. So be aware of the potential for some thunderstorms which could bring heavy downpours Tuesday, Tuesday night and Wednesday (best opportunity), but storms are still in the forecast Thursday as well. Storms will also produce lightning and gusty wind. Small hail is possible in the stronger storms.

Temperatures are expected to be around the middle 80's during the day, low 60's at night over the next few days. Daytime temperatures will depend on cloud cover and rainfall.

Memorial Day Forecast:

* Area radar this morning is showing some scattered showers and isolated storms to our west over the Permian Basin and the South Plains this morning. A instablility axis is sitting in this area and is forecast to slip eastward today and will probably help develop storms across the Big Country later today. The NAM model is going for rain today, while the GFS and our in house Adonis Futurecast models are keeping things dry. With good moisture in place I feel storms will develop again this afternoon so I am inserting a 30% chance in my forecast package for today. Some storms will linger into the evening then there were also be some patchy fog to develop early Tuesday morning.

* A cold front is forecasted to drop in from the north on late Tuesday into early Wednesday and will be a lifting factor to develop more showers and storms for the Big Country. I have the rain chance for late Tuesday and early Wednesday at 40% with an isolated storm possible Wendesday afternoon.

* The rest of the week looks dry from midweek and into next weekend. Average high temperatures with highs in the middle and upper 80s and lows in the middle 60s.

* Drought Update: These rains we are seeing are slowly helping improve the drought a little. The latest update of the US Drought monitor has severe conditions across the central core of the Big Country, extreme conditions across the far Northern and Northeastern Big Country while the rest of the area Eastern/Western Big Country, Heartland and Northern Concho Valley have dropped back to moderate conditions.

* Clouds on the increase for your Friday with a slight chance of storms in the afternoon and overnight. Highs today in the middle 80s and lows overnight into the lower 60s.

* Memorial Day Weekend: We will maintain a decent rain chance over the weekend here in the Big Country as a low over the Southwest and Northern Mexico drifts in our direction bring monsoonal moisture across West Texas. The rain chance for Saturday sits at 50% and for Sunday at 40% with clouds staying in place most of the weekend.

* Memorial Day: Cloud cover breaks up somewhat but there is stil a slight rain chance for the holiday. Highs will climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s with overnight lows into the 60s.

Scattered Showers / Storms This Weekend

Expect clouds to increase across the area Friday and then expect the clouds to produce widely scattered showers and a few thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday.

I've put the rain chance at 50% Saturday and 40% Sunday. Some storms may become strong but severe weather is not expected to be widespread. Considerable cloudiness and rain-cooled air should hold down the instability enough that we see non-severe storms and showers.
By Memorial Day on Monday, just a 20% chance for storms.

Highs Friday 82, Saturday 78, Sunday 80, Monday 86. Overnight lows in the low 60's.

Increasing Clouds & Moisture:

* Clouds and moisture will be on the increase as we go through the day today. Another cool morning with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s. We'll climb up into the lower to middle 80s today. * Memorial Day Weekend: We will maintain a rain chance over the weekend and into the early part of next week. The rain chance for Saturday and Sunday to 30%, as well as increased cloud cover for the weekend and into early next week. Slight rain chances continue into early next week. Highs climbing into the middle 80s over the weekend. Early next week we'll climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s with lows into the 60s.

Showers / Storms Possible This Weekend

I haven't made any big changes to my forecast today - still looks like we will be dodging showers and a few storms this weekend. It also appears that West Texas (Midland/Odessa area) stands a much better chance for rain and some of it could be heavy.

Thursday, clouds should begin to increase.
Friday brings a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms and so goes the weekend, a daily slight chance of hit and miss showers and storms. As I've written before, this is a very summer like pattern where we have the influence of some slow moving minor disturbances and a couple of moisture sources - Pacific and Gulf.

Temperatures should be very pleasant for your weekend. After the middle 80's Thursday the highs will stay closer to 80 Friday and Saturday, due to more cloud cover, then back to the low to mid 80's Sunday into Monday.

A Nice Wednesday:

* Another nice cool morning across the Big Country with lows in the 50s ahead and nighs today warming into the lower 80s. There is a good bit of low clouds around this morning which should begin to burn off by mid-morning but some high clouds will stick around so expect a mostly sunny day. High pressure remains in control another day or two. Expect a dry weather pattern for the area the next couple of days but clouds and moisture will be on the increase

* Memorial Day Weekend: Highs climbing into the middle to upper 80s and lower 90s with lows into the 60s. The models continue to show moisture return with the high weakening. This morning the runs still showing a rain chance over the weekend and into the early part of next week. I've increased the rain chance for Saturday and Sunday to 30%, as well as increased cloud cover for the weekend and into early next week. Looks like a hit or miss shower or storm possible on Monday.

Dry Through Friday - Isolated Storms This Weekend

Not many changes to the forecast, except to slightly increase cloud cover and the chance for rain this weekend.

We have two interesting weather features to watch. The upper low spinning over Florida and eventually moving west into the Gulf of Mexico AND THEN some monsoonal Pacific moisture streaming into the southwestern U.S. This Pacific moisture will help increase the clouds around here by Friday and those clouds will linger through Monday. With a few minor disturbances associated with the Pacific clouds, a few showers or storms are possible main Abilene westward into West Texas but can't rule out a hit and miss shower or storm just about anywhere over the area.

Temperatures should remain in the low to middle 80's the next couple of days but closer to 80, due to more cloud cover, this weekend.

It doesn't look like a washout by any stretch, indeed many areas will stay dry, but just be prepared for a rain delay here and there this weekend.

A Very Nice Tuesday:

* High pressure remains in control and will remain in control for the next few days. Daytime highs will climb into the lower to middle 80s and lows at night will drop into the middle and upper 50s. Expect a dry weather pattern for the area the next several days.

* By the end of the week, we will start to see things warm up with highs climbing into the upper 80s and lower 90s with lows into the 60s. This is all thanks to the high weakening. The models continue to show moisture return with the high loosening control of the weather pattern. This morning the runs are looking a little more organized so I've increased cloud cover for the weekend and into early next week, as well as added a slight rain chance for Friday - Monday.

Is it Summer?

High pressure in control, a low pressure area over Florida bringing a tropical look and wanting to move west - sure reminds me of the pattern we see in the summer.

Under the influence of the high, we'll see dry conditions and not many clouds except later in the week. I think we'll see more clouds by Friday and wouldn't be surprised if a few afternoon showers try to form Friday and Saturday. That's a stretch right now and it would be very hit and miss, as it looks at this time.

So, keeping with a dry forecast through the work week. Overnight lows near 54 tonight, 55 Tuesday night, low 60's rest of the week.

Afternoon highs 82 Tuesday, mid 80's Wednesday through the end of the week.

It's a good time for some outdoor activities so enjoy the warm Spring weather !!

A Pleasant Monday

* A pleasant weather day across the Big Country on this Monday and starting the new week. Another cool morning with lows well into the 50s across the area. Blue sky and lots of sunshine will warm us up into the upper 70s with a couple of low 80s in the area. Tonight will be clear with another cool down into the middle 50s.

* The Week Ahead: High pressure is in control and will remain in control for the first half of week. Daytime highs will climb into the lower to middle 80s and lows at night will drop into the middle and upper 50s. By the end of the week, we will start to see things warm up with highs climbing into the upper 80s and lower 90s with lows into the 60s. Expect a dry weather pattern for the area this week. Some of the models are hinting at slight rain chances toward the weekend but confidence is low so I am not including any rain my forecast package.

Super Nice Weather This Week !!

WOW may be a good way to describe the weather this week. After a rainy weekend for most of the Big Country, high pressure builds into the region and keeps the weather dry this week.

While most of the Big Country could still use more rain to fill our stock ponds and lakes, we'll have to wait until the pattern changes, perhaps next week.

This week is dry with temperatures very pleasant all week long. Simply put, cool comfortable mornings and warm afternoons with wall to wall sunshine. Very quiet, which is very uncommon for the heart of severe weather season.

Sunday Night: Clear and 51. East wind 5 to 10.

Monday: Sunny and nice, high of 82. East and southeast wind 10 to 15.

Monday Night: Clear and 55.

Tuesday: Sunny and 84.

Wednesday: Sunny and 85.

Thursday through Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs from 85-90 daily.

Heavy Rain Falling in Abilene

Abilenians awoke to thunder and lightning and heavy rain Saturday morning, prompting a Flood Advisory for Taylor County.

The Abilene Regional Airport recorded 1.36 inches of rain between 5:52am and 6:52am Saturday morning.

The National Weather Services issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory from 6:00am to 8:45am as heavy rain first developed across southern Taylor County near Buffalo Gap and Lake Abilene and moved northward over the City of Abilene.

Low water crossings, underpasses and other low lying city streets quickly filled with water as the storms passed.

Elsewhere in the area Breckenridge in Stephens County, northeast of Abilene, was also placed in a Flood Advisory Saturday morning. Heavy rain was also recorded today in Jones, Fisher, Shackelford and Callahan counties.

Good Rain Chance This Weekend:

Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Another warm day before big changes arrive. Look for partly cloudy conditions and for clouds to increase into the night. An isolated storm is possible this afternoon and evening. We could see an isolated storm overnight. Highs today near 90° but a cooler trend is coming this weekend.

* A strong cold front will move into the area on Saturday and will be the focal point for increased thunderstorm chances during the day on Saturday and into Sunday morning. The San Angelo Nation Weather Service is saying that rainfall amounts will average 1/2 to 1 inch with local amounts of 2 inches possible in stronger storms. This will be the best rain chances for the area. Highs will drop into the 70s over the weekend with lows dipping into the 50s.

* Severe Weather Threat: The SPC has areas west of Sweetwater and Roby outlined in a "slight" risk for severe weather this afternoon. There is a "slight" risk on Saturday just to our south across the Edwards Plateau but we can't rule out a strong to severe storm up this way over Saturday. Clouds cover and beind behind the front should keep instability down for the Big Country.

* Next Week: Cool mornings in the 50s start the week off but daytime highs will slowly climb back into the 80s. Forecast looks dry right now.

The front should wash out later today along Interstate 20. Overnight lows will dip into the 60s. Isolated storms are still possible on Friday.

Storms Possible Thursday, More Likely Saturday

A cold front will be draped roughly along I-20 Thursday and with the heating of the day, storms are expected to fire up near or along the front. Any storm which develops will have the potential to become severe.

Going into Friday, there is already a slight risk area for severe storms outlined for West Texas, roughly Midland to the Big Bend.

Then another cold front drops into the area Saturday and that's when I expect our best chance for rain will be - Saturday and Saturday night. A few storms could be strong this weekend and drop some heavy rain, especially Saturday night.

Highs middle 80's Thursday, near 90 Friday, middle 70's Saturday and Sunday.

Another Hot Day Today:

* Another warm day across the Big Country with highs climbing into the middle 90s. Don't really expect any storms this afternoon as the disturbance that moved through yesterday has departed and the cap in the atmosphere a bit strong today. Lows tonight will drop into the upper 60s.

* A weak cold front will slip into the northern Big Country tonight and could get a storm or two going later on and could keep a storm or two going into the day on Thursday. It will be cooler on Thursday with highs dropping back into the middle 80s.

* Will maintain a chance of an isolated storm for Thursday and Friday afternoons. A better rain chance comes in late Saturday and early Sunday with another cold front. Temperatures cooler this weekend with upper 70s and low 80s and lows overnight into the 50s.

Isolated Thunderstorms a Daily Bet

Isolated thunderstorms should develop in the Permian Basin of West Texas this afternoon and drift toward the western KRBC viewing area. Storms will be capable of dropping hail and damaging wind and will tend to move to the northeast.

An isolated storm possible into the early nighttime hours, then mostly cloudy overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday. Low near 71.

On Wednesday, another windy and hot day, highs middle 90's. An isolated late afternoon storm is possible once again. Wednesday night the low should be in the upper 60's.

With a weak front venturing into the area Thursday, another slight chance for thunderstorms.

This weekend, the chance increases a bit, mainly Saturday night, with another front likely causing thunderstorms.

* A warm front to our south across the Concho Valley and Heartland will slowly begin to drift back northward late today and tonight.Clouds will depart and temperatures will warm up for Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the lower 90s with dry conditions.

* Focus then turns to thunderstorm chances late this afternoon into tonight when a disturbance embedded in westerly flow aloft enters our area from the west. The best chance should be across the western half of our area between 7 pm and 10 pm... As the disturbance and associated convection move east a slight chance for storms will continue across the viewing area. Much of the western half of our area has a slight risk for severe storms, given the moderate instability and sufficient vertical shear which is expected.

* There is another slight chance for rain on Thursday but the best rain chances will be with a new front this weekend that will bring rain late Saturday and early Sunday.

Warm and Windy Tuesday

Tuesday should be a much different day than Monday - warmer and windy.

The forecast high is 90 degrees. Wind should gust from the south at 20 to 30. Any thunderstorms Tuesday should be very isolated in nature.

Wednesday will be another warm day as temperatures hover around 90. There is also a slight risk of severe storms across mainly the eastern and southeastern KRBC viewing area.

The chance for storms should improve to around 30 percent this weekend as an active storm track continues just north of our area.
