I hope you like summer because it has returned for the next few days! Highs will remain in the 90’s until beginning of next week with Mostly Sunny skies, lows reaching into the mid to upper 60’s. A ridge that will sit over us will cause these warmer than normal temperatures and Southerly winds between 10-15 mph. This pattern looks like it will continue at least until the beginning of the work week.
This High pressure system should begin to move towards the eastern United States towards the end of the week which might let us bring temperatures down just a few degrees into the mid 80’s towards the next weekend, low will continue to be in the mid 60’s.

October Will Start Off Toasty

The warm temperatures returned to the Big Country today as highs reached the upper 80s to low 90s across the area. A little more moisture returned as well with dewpoints getting into the 50s, so it didn't feel quite as comfortable as yesterday.
An upper level high pressure ridge will build into the central and eastern portions of the country this weekend and early next week. It looks to remain in place through at least next Friday. This means we will have mostly sunny skies and dry conditions for the next seven days. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s with lows in the mid to upper 60s.

Temperatures overnight got a bit chilly reaching into the low 50’s in the early morning hour. The cold front that moved through yesterday morning kept High temperatures only into the 70’s yesterday but Sunny skies still persisted because of the dry air we still have in the Big Country.
Today those temperatures will begin a warming trend reaching into the mid to upper 80’s tonight with lows in the mid 60’s. It will be a beautiful night for Friday night football. Tomorrow and Sunday we will reach into the low 90’s for highs making it feel more like Summer than Fall. It will be an overall great weekend to get out and enjoy that pool once last time.

Thursday Night Update

We had much cooler temperatures today thanks to the cold front that moved through the area this morning. Highs were mainly in the 70s. A weak upper level disturbance caused a few showers and thunderstorms in Mitchell, Coke, and Runnels counties.
Tomorrow looks to be a pleasant and warmer day. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s under sunny skies. It may be breezy at times with winds from the south-southwest at 10 to 15 mph.
An upper level high pressure ridge will move into the region from the west this weekend and remain in place through the middle of next week. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will likely be in the low 90s. The first half of next week looks warm too with highs in the upper 80s. Unfortunately, rain chances are pretty much non-existent for the next seven days.
We have our ninth named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Tropical Storm Isaac is 635 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. It has 45 mph sustained winds according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. The latest path projection has it staying out to sea and passing Bermuda to the east.

The cold front is passing through our area, a little slower than had been expected but still will be fully through the Big Country by the end of the morning. Because of the passing we have calm winds but those will be changing towards the NE as the front does pass and Gusts could get up to 20 mph or high by the afternoon hours. Temperatures will not rise much today only reaching the mid to upper 70’s. Overnight lows will be getting chilly into the 50’s but the winds will quickly change back to the South overnight bring back the dry and hot air.
Temperatures tomorrow should get back into the mid 80’s with the winds S/SW at 10-15 mph. As a Ridge develops over the Western part of the US we should begin to see temperatures above normal for the weekend reaching into the high 80’s with lows sticking in the mid 60’s. Sunny skies should dominate throughout the seven day forecast.

We returned to summer-like conditions today with highs in the 90s across the Big Country. A few showers and thunderstorms fired up along a surface trof this afternoon. Extreme southern Coleman and Brown counties did see a little bit of this rain, but the bulk of it was south of the viewing area.
A cold front will move through the area overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. A stray shower or thunderstorm can't be ruled out, but our chance looks to be less than slight due to a lack of moisture. Lows tonight should be in the low to mid 50s while highs will only make it into the low to mid 70s for Thursday. We can expect breezy conditions with the passage of the front.
Below average temperatures should continue on Friday with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. It looks to be a pleasant day with mostly sunny skies.

Temperatures Yesterday did reach the high 80’s and the winds started to pick up especially overnight with gusts reaching over 30 mph. Today temperatures will continue to rise and reach just into the 90’s with lots of winds and lots of Sun.
Tonight the cold front will begin to pass through our viewing area, as it does winds will begin to change from our dry warm southwesterly to north northwest but still continuing to be breezy staying at 5 -15 mph, tonight and tomorrow being the strongest with gusts again into the 30 mph. Temperatures will be dropping as the polar air moves through and lows should get down to the mid 50’s overnight. There will not be a lot of rain associated with this front because of our lack of moisture from those dry winds. Right now the chance is less than slight meaning less than 10 percent, which means maybe a stray shower but nothing looking to likely. The front should fully push through in the morning hours of Thursday only pushing highs into the mid 70’s.
The cold air will stick around through Friday and then we will gradually begin to warm back up to normal or a little above normal with highs reaching into the mid to upper 80’s and lows in the mid 60’s. We are expecting a little more moisture coming in after the front because the deep trough that has been over us will begin to move east. This moisture right now is not looking to produce rain but it may give us a chance for a cloud or two which we haven’t seen to often this week.

The high pressure system that has sat in our region for the past couple of days will move out tomorrow. Skies will be mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 90s.
A cold front is expected to arrive in the area tomorrow night and move through the area Thursday morning. Our chance for rain looks to be less than slight with this front due to a lack of moisture. Skies should be mostly sunny on Thursday with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Today we will see a warming trend for next two days reaching close to 90 today and into the low 90’s tomorrow. We will also see an increase in winds with Gusts picking up to 20 mph today and tomorrow up to 30 mph. Otherwise across the Big Country, lots of sunshine with lows tonight staying in the mid 60’s, SW winds 5-15 mph.
Wednesday night our next front will move through decreasing our temperatures to the high 70’s, and lows into the lower 50’s for Thursday and Friday. It doesn’t look like we will have much rain associated with this front because of the dry air that will be dominating. Saturday through Monday our temperatures should begin to warm back up to highs in the mid 80’s and lows in the mid 60’s with Partly Cloudy skies.

It was a picture perfect day across the Big Country. We started off cool this morning with lows in the mid 40s to 50, and ended up a little warm this afternoon with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s.
The warming trend looks to continue for the next couple of days with high pressure remaining in control over the region. Skies should remain mostly sunny with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s.
A cold front is expected to arrive in the area Thursday morning. We have a slight chance for rain Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. The reason the rain chance is slight is due to the lack of moisture that will be in place. It looks like there won't be enough moisture for a lot of rainfall, but maybe just enough for a few isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs on Thursday will be in the mid to upper 70s under partly cloudy skies.

Cooler Temperatures This Weekend

It was another hot and breezy day across the Big Country with highs reaching the low to mid 90s this afternoon. A little bit more moisture was in place today, but not enough to see any rainfall. Remember that the fall season officially begins tonight at 11:03 p.m.
One the first full day of fall we will have a cold front make its way into the area by the morning and pass through by late afternoon. There is a slight chance for some isolated showers and thunderstorms with the best shot for rain being in the eastern portions of the viewing area. That is where the best moisture build-up will be. Highs should be cooler in the low to mid 80s.
Sunday through Tuesday are expected to be pleasant with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s.
Another cold front may affect us late Wednesday and into Thursday. The chance for rain is slight to 20%. Highs look to cool down into the 70s for Thursday and next Friday.

Yesterday with the front passing through we warmed up temps and reached the low 90’s with a few showers early in the day. With the winds continuing to blow from the South West the temperatures will get even warmer staying in the low to mid 90’s today. We should see mostly sunny skies but with continuing breezy conditions from 15-25 mph.
Fall officially starts tomorrow with the Autumn Equinox and it looks like our area will begin it will “fall like” weather. Overnight temperatures should get down to the upper 60’s with clear skies. Winds will begin to change from the SSW to the NNW and through out Saturday come from the North. This will be because of our next Cold Front that will be moving through Friday night into Saturday. After the front passes temperatures will drop to highs only in the lower 80’s to upper 70’s. Sunday being the coldest right after the front passes. Lows will drop to upper 50’s so you might need a jacket if you will be outside at all during the evening. There will be a slight chance for a shower with the front but because of the dryline that just pushed through bringing dry air we don’t have a lot of moisture, one of the ingredients needed to boost the chances for rain. The best chance would be for our Eastern viewing area where moisture from the gulf has been pushed up.
The next week looks enjoyable with temperatures staying in the mid 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s with Mostly Sunny skies.

It was a hot and windy day across the Big Country as highs reached the upper 80s to mid 90s. There was a little bit of rain in the area overnight last night, but nothing developed this afternoon. A trace of rainfall was picked up at Abilene Regional Airport before dawn this morning.
We can expect another hot and windy day tomorrow. Highs should be in the low to mid 90s with winds from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. The fire danger will be elevated tomorrow so please be careful. Also, use caution if driving a high profile vehicle.
Beginning tomorrow night and into the day Saturday, moisture is expected to build back into the region. A cold front is expected to move through the Big Country on Saturday. Depending on how much moisture is in place, we could see some showers and thunderstorms. The chance for rainfall Friday night through Saturday night is slight. The best shot at precipitation is going to be in the eastern portions of the viewing area. That is where the best moisture should be. Highs on Saturday will reach the low to mid 80s.

Temperatures stayed just at normal yesterday reaching into the mid 80’s. It was beautiful with Sunny skies but if you were outside at all you probably realized the strength of the wind with gusts getting up to over 30 mph.
This morning a front is pushing through popping up a few scattered showers though mainly out of our area. We are still very dry with most of the moisture staying off to the west. As this pushes through more dry air will move in behind it and temperatures will increase into the 90’s. We will still have strong winds through the day with winds at 20-30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity will decrease staying between 10-20% with the highest only up to 30% in the western counties. Wind advisories are in effect until this evening at 7 pm and because of that and the dry air they have elevated the fire danger to a fire watch. Make sure to take extra precaution if you will be outdoors.
Tomorrow will be sunny with temps even warmer reaching the mid 90’s and lows near 70 degrees. We will still see strong Southwest winds between 15-25 mph. Friday night there will be another chance for a shower right before our next cold front pushes through. Early Saturday the front should drive through bring with it a chance for a shower and cooler temperatures. Winds will change from the Southwest winds which has been bringing the hot dry temperatures, to the North/Northwest and eventually becoming Northeast and decreasing to around 10 mph. Behind the front we will see sunny skies with enjoyable temperatures sticking into the lower 80’s for highs and low’s into the high 50’s.

Wind advisories are in effect until this evening at 7 pm and because of that and the dry air they have elevated the fire danger to a fire watch. Make sure to take extra precaution if you will be outdoors.
Tomorrow will be sunny with temps even warmer reaching the mid 90’s and lows near 70 degrees. We will still see strong Southwest winds between 15-25 mph. Friday night there will be another chance for a shower right before our next cold front pushes through. Early Saturday the front should drive through bring with it a chance for a shower and cooler temperatures. Winds will change from the Southwest winds which has been bringing the hot dry temperatures, to the North/Northwest and eventually becoming Northeast and decreasing to around 10 mph. Behind the front we will see sunny skies with enjoyable temperatures sticking into the lower 80’s for highs and low’s into the high 50’s.

Wednesday Night Update

It was another beautiful, but breezy day across the area. Highs were in the mid to upper 80s which is a little above average for this time of year. Dewpoints have risen a little into the upper 40s to mid 50s, but it still felt comfortable.
Moisture should continue to build into the area tonight and early tomorrow. An upper level low to our nortwest may push an upper level disturbance over the area tonight and a dryline through the Big Country tomorrow. The chance for rain is only slight because we may not build enough moisture into all levels of the atmosphere before these lifting mechanisms arrive. Once the dryline passes us by early in the day, the chance for rain will be over for a little while.
Tomorrow will be a hot and windy day with highs in the low 90s. Winds are expected to be from the southwest at 20 to 30 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 40 mph. Because of this most of the area is under a Wind Advisory and Fire Weather Watch. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Stephens and Eastland counties for Thursday. Everyone should be careful tomorrow with the elevated fire danger.
The hot and windy conditions will likely continue on Friday with highs in the mid 90s. It looks like skies will be mostly sunny.

Gordon has weakened to a tropical storm today and should continue to weaken. What is left of Gordon should move over Portugal and Spain later tonight and tomorrow.
Hurricane Helene has weakened a little bit today according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. It has maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. It should make a turn to the north by tomorrow and pass Bermuda to the east.

Wednesday Morning Update
Good Wednesday Morning! From your Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…
The past few days in the Big Country have been beautiful and once again today we will have Sunny skies with Temperatures reaching back to normal with Highs in the mid to upper 80’s. The one big change- the wind! It will be very breezy over the next few days as a trough pushes through. We should have warmer overnight lows only getting down to the upper 60’s tonight and tomorrow.
Tomorrow a dryline will be pushing through, it could bring a chance of rain for our very Northern counties but most likely to the Western part of Texas. With the limited moisture it is not as probable for our area. High’s will become unseasonable warm for Thursday and Friday reaching into the lower 90’s and will continue to have even drier environment and breezy conditions.
Saturday our next Cold Front will push through bringing the temperatures from the 90’s back to below average keeping them in the lower 80’s with lows maybe even tipping into the upper 50’s. There will be a slight chance of rain for Saturday and Sunday but because our environment is very dry, Relative Humidity not even reaching 30%, the chance is limited.

Tuesday Night Update

It was another pleasant day across the Big Country as temperatures were a little below average for this time of year. Highs were in the low to mid 80s. Comfortable conditions remained with dewpoints in the 40s.
The warming trend continues tomorrow with highs in the upper 80s. Dewpoints will begin to rise into the 50s, so it won't be quite as comfortable as it has been the last couple of days. You'll need to hang on to your hat since breezy conditions are expected.
We will have well above average temperatures on Thursday and Friday with highs in the low 90s. It will continue to be breezy to windy on both days. There is also a slight chance for rain due to the dryline being active. The chance is only slight because it looks as though the best moisture will be in the eastern portions of the state and the best dynamics will be just to our north.
A cold front is expected to arrive on Saturday so the slight chance for rain will continue. Highs should be in the upper 80s to low 90s.
Temperatures swing back down below average for Sunday through Tuesday with mostly sunny skies.
Hurricane Gordon has weakened today. According to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center its maximum sustained winds are 85 mph. It will continue on an eastward track and move over the Azores tonight.
Hurricane Helene has weakened a little bit today as well. Its maximum sustained winds are 110 mph. The latest path projection from the National Hurricane Center has it moving towards Bermuda, but making a turn to the north and passing the island to the east.

Temperatures will stay a few degrees below normal for this time of year still while we are still affected by the cold front that moved through Sunday. A High pressure system will be dominating our area and today bringing us very sunny skies with temperatures reaching into the mid 80’s. Tonight we will once again see clear skies with temperatures reaching the higher 50’s.
Tomorrow will once again be a Sunny day with temperatures just at normal, the difference will be the gusty winds brought about by the next Low moving in. Wednesday night the trough from Rockies could bring our next chance for rain although very slight because of the dry air and limited moisture. The best chance would be for our Northern Counties. The biggest impact will be the winds, with wind gusts getting as strong as 30 mph Thursday. Temperatures should stay warm from the dry line with even significantly drier air. Highs Wednesday-Friday will reach into the upper 80’s and lows into the mid 60’s.
As fall officially begins Saturday we should see a bit of a cool down from another weak cold front moving through Friday following right after the last one. It will bring high temperatures back down into the lower 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s.

A Beautiful Start To The Week

We had a picture perfect day across the Big Country as highs only reached the upper 70s to low 80s. This is well below average for this time of year. It also felt very comfortable as dewpoints dropped into the 40s.
Tonight will be another cool night with lows reaching the upper 40s to low 50s. The reason we will drop this low is due to prime conditions for radiational cooling. When you have a dry airmass, light to calm winds and little to no cloud cover, all of the heating of the day is allowed to escape back up into the atmosphere.
Tuesday should be another beautiful and pleasant day with sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 80s.
A warming trend will continue Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Breezy conditions are expected on both days. There is a slight chance of a few isolated showers and thunderstorms due to the dryline possibly moving into the area. The question is whether or not we will have enough moisture back in place before this boundary arrives.
That same question will linger on Friday as a slight chance for more rain continues. A cold front should arrive in the area, but highs should still make it into the upper 80s before it does.
The fall season officially starts on Saturday and it looks like we will begin with highs in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies.
We continue to have two hurricanes in the Atlantic. Neither one looks to be a threat to the U.S. coastline at this time. Hurricane Gordon has maximum sustained winds of 90 mph according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center. It should move over the Azores Islands tomorrow night as a tropical storm. Hurricane Helene has maximum sustained winds of 115 mph according to the latest advisory. The latest path projection has it passing Bermuda to the east later this week. We reached a high in the 90’s on Saturday and a low in the 50’s on Sunday showing the polar front that moved through Sunday. The front was definitely more significant then the one we had the week before causing big temperature changes. Yesterday we received plenty of rainfall even causing small flooding in some areas. So once again we are in the plus side for rainfall.
Today look for Mostly Sunny skies with a high reach into the high 70’s and low 80’s in some areas. The low will be in the mid 50’s. Tuesday and Wednesday will also have Mostly Sunny skies with highs getting a little warmer into the 80’s and lows into the 60’s. Thursday will be our next best chance of rainfall with 20% as a little disturbance moves through. Friday to Sunday should stay with highs in the 80’s and a bit cooler lows reaching the high 50’s.
In the tropics we still have two storms in the Atlantic, Gordon and Helene. Both have reached major strength but Gordon is now down to winds of 80 mph’s and will have no effect to the US. Helen has strengthen to a Cat 3 with winds at 120 mph. Right now the storm has no effect to the US but we are still watching the track as it could change over the next few days.
