Summer returned for us yesterday reaching highs into the 80’s with mostly sunny skies. You may not need that winter jacket today but probably at least a sweater or sweatshirt! Fall will be knocking at our door today when we only get into the 60’s in most areas. A strong cold front bringing the cool Canadian air has dominated over half of the country even bringing snow and wind chills in the teens to Wisconsin and my old stomping grounds Michigan. The front is a little slower than originally forecasted but will still make it through our Northern counties through the morning and through our southern counties into the early afternoon. The cold front will cross through Abilene around 10 am and through Comanche around 1pm. The Southern counties could even make it into the 70’s before it passes them bringing there temperatures back into the 60’s. With a little extra moisture in the area they have a slight chance for a shower today.We will make it into the 60’s today and getting down to the 40’s overnight in most areas. With the cooler wind from the North blowing at up to 20 mph in some places it could feel a bit chilly even in the afternoon sun. We will have partly cloudy skies with no rain chances for the next two days.
Tomorrow will warm up a little more with Partly Cloudy skies making it into the upper 60’s to lower 70’s for highs with overnight lows in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s.
The next big change will arrive around Saturday night with our next Low brining us next best possibility of rain and disturbances Saturday night through Tuesday. Temperatures will stay around average through the weekend and into early next week with highs in the upper 70’s and lows in the lower 60’s.

Wednesday Night Update

It was a beautiful day here in the Big Country. Warm temperatures returned with highs in the 80s this afternoon. It was a little breezy with winds from the west-southwest.
Much cooler temperatures are on tap for us tomorrow as a cold front moves through the area early in the day. Skies should be partly cloudy and there is a slight chance of an isolated shower with the passage of the front. Highs will likely be in the low to mid 60s. Lows tomorrow night look to be in the low 40s.
There should be a warming trend Friday and into the weekend with temperatures mainly in the 70s. Beginning Friday night through Tuesday there is a 20% to 30% chance of rain. The reason we may see some precipitation is due to an upper level low to our west. It will send out distrubances before the low itself gets close to us Sunday and into Monday.

After a Soggy beginning yesterday morning we will start out with mostly clear skies this morning although it is chilly outside with temperatures in the 50’s. We are going to warm up very nicely and today should be the warmest day we have seen all week with most of the Big Country reaching into the lower 80’s with Mostly Sunny Skies. Tonight the strongest cold front of the season temperature wise will push through bringing with it some chilly Canadian air and could also bring with it a 20 degree temperature difference in highs from today into tomorrow. Highs could only remain in the 50’s in some places and dip into the 60’s in others. With Gusty winds, it is going to feel chilly outside! We should see some more clouds tomorrow and a slight chance for some rain showers, mainly to the south. Bring out the gloves and hat for Thursday night which looks to be the coldest night of the week with temperatures in the lower 40’s and some places only reaching into the 30’s! These are the coldest temperatures the Big Country has seen since March.
Friday we should again see nice weather, mostly sunny, but with the cooler than average temperatures in the 60’s and lows in the lower 50’s. This weekend looks to bring us our next chance of rain as we bring in our next disturbance. Temperatures will stay a few degrees below average reaching into the mid 70’s through the weekend with rain chances Saturday through Monday.

Tuesday Night Update

We had some rainfall move through the Big Country this morning. Some locations saw quite a bit of precipitation. Abilene Regional Airport picked up 0.30" while Sweetwater and Brownwood picked up around an inch. There was quite a bit of cloud cover through the day after the rain stopped. The sun was able to break out late this afternoon and help push our highs into the upper 60s to mid 70s.
Warmer temperatures should return tomorrow due to mostly sunny skies and winds from the west-southwest at 10 to 15 mph. Highs will likely be in the low to mid 80s.
A cold front is expected to arrive in the area late tomorrow night and early Thursday. There is a slight chance of a few showers as the front moves through. Windy conditions are expected with the front as well. It will be a struggle to get out of the 50s for highs, but some locations should make it into the low 60s.
Friday should be a pleasant day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 60s.

Thunderstorms push through

High Temperatures yesterday stayed below average for the first time in a few weeks only reaching high of 78 here in Abilene. This will be the trend for the next few days. Monday night and into Tuesday morning thunderstorms and showers moved through the Big Country, at around 30 mph, though the really strong storms stayed to the South of our viewing area. We did have a few stronger thunderstorms move through Robert Lee, Ballinger and Coleman.
We will continue the chance of precipitation today because of the front right across west central Texas, the most likely chance being in the morning and into the afternoon. Temperatures will stay cooler than average reaching around 70’s for a high and 50’s for lows. Winds will stay around 10 mph switching from the SE to NW.
Tomorrow we should see a decrease in clouds and a beautiful day before our next cold front moves through Wednesday night into Thursday. Temperatures should reach higher 70’s. We could see a chance of rain associated with this front but that will depend on how much moisture we will have available. Monday Night Update

We had quite a bit of cloud cover across the area today as well as some rainfall. The showers and thunderstorms were mainly across the western portions of the area. This gave us a wide range of highs in the Big Country. In the west, highs were in the upper 60s while the southeast got into the upper 80s.
There is a good chance for more showers and storms across the entire area tonight and tomorrow. An upper level low to our west sending disturbances our way will combine with a stationary front to bring us a 60% chance of rain through tomorrow. Some of the storms could be severe with the main threats being large hail and damaging winds. Also, there will likely be some patchy fog in some locations tonight and early tomorrow. Highs for Tuesday should be in the low 70s. However, if we have a lot of clouds and rain most of the day it may be in the 60s. If we see enough sunshine, we could make it into the mid to upper 70s.
Wednesday should be dry with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Much cooler temperatures should arrive late Wednesday night into Thursday with the arrival of an arctic front. This will be the coldest air we have seen so far this season. A few showers can't be ruled out with the arrival of the front. We will be lucky to make the low 60s for highs on Thursday. Lows Thursday night should reach the upper 30s to low 40s.
Another upper level low may send some disturbances our way this weekend bringing us a chance for more rainfall. That chance is only slight to 20% right now, but could increase. Highs should rebound into the 70s by then.

We did have some rainfall this evening in the western portions of the viewing area. Fall is coming!
Good Evening from Meteorologist Kristen Connolly….
Sunday we will see one more day of the similar conditions we have seen for the last few weeks with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures reaching into the mid to lower 80’s and low’s reaching the lower 60’s.
Monday looks to be our first chance of rain since the 17th of September. We will have Mostly Cloudy skies but temperatures should still just stay in the 80’s for highs and lower 60’s for lows. We will get a brush of colder temperatures Tuesday as a cold front approaches the area but the cold front does not look like it will make it through our area only hitting the panhandle. Best chance of precipitation will be Tuesday depending on how much moisture we have available. Highs should reach into the mid 70’s with low’s in the upper 50’s. Wednesday we will see partly cloudy skies and temperatures really beginning to feel like fall with lows reaching into the 40’s. High should remain still in the 70’s for that day.
Our next cold front should move through sometime Wednesday night into Thursday and will bring with it some cool artic air. This being said we should only see highs in the 60’s and lows continue into the 40’s. After it passes we will begin to warm back up to normal by the weekend with Mostly Sunny Skies.

Pattern Change For Next Week

I know I have sounded like a broken record all week, but the warm temperatures continued again today here in the Big Country. Highs reached the upper 80s to low 90s in many locations. For those of you who like warm temperatures, I hope you enjoyed it because much cooler conditions are on the horizon.
The upper level high pressure ridge that has dominated over the area this week will shift to the east this weekend. A trough in the west that contains an upper level low will begin moving closer to the area. This will bring more moisture and some disturbances into the region. Our chance for rain will begin late Sunday at slight and increase to 30% by Tuesday. High temperatures will be in the mid 80s on Saturday, but fall into the mid 70s by Tuesday.
It looks like a cold front will arrive in the Big Country late Wednesday or early Thursday. The chance for rain with this front is only slight to 20%. This front may bring the coolest air we have had so far this season Thursday and Friday. Highs look to be in the mid to upper 60s with lows in the mid to upper 40s. This weekend is going to be a pretty quiet and dry, great weather for all the festivals going on around the Big Country. Today we should see highs reach into the upper 80’s with Sunny skies. Overnight lows will be hitting the lower 60’s. Saturday and Sunday temperatures should cool down a few degrees hitting the lower 80’s for highs with Partly Cloudy skies.
Getting into next week we may see some big changes. For now, we have fizzled out the cold front that was forecasted for Sunday night into Monday but have still kept some rain chances in the forecast. Chance of precipitation and amount will all dependent on how much moisture we can get into our area and the path of the cut off low that is currently sitting over California. Temperatures should still stay around average or a little lower throughout the beginning of the work week though we may see a big change towards the end of the work week as an artic air mass may push into much of the United States. Right now models are a bit uncertain but we should know more by the beginning of the next week.
For now I have kept rain chances Monday- Thursday with highs in the upper 70’s lows in the upper 50’s.

It was another warm afternoon across the area today with highs in the 80s and low 90s. It felt relatively comfortable today as dewpoints remained in the 50s.
The upper level high pressure ridge will continue to sit over the region through tomorrow. This will give us another afternoon with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.
The ridge will begin shifting to the east this weekend allowing a trough in the west to begin affecting the area. An upper level low should send some disturbances our direction beginning Sunday. Temperatures for the most part stayed in the 80’s yesterday except for a few areas around Brownwood and Comanche reaching barely into the 90’s. With the light winds and few clouds it was a perfect day to be outside. Today temperatures should cool down a couple degrees with everyone around the Big Country reaching into the 80’s. Our winds will be from the North, Northwest 5-10 mph because of the Cold front that moved through the pan handle yesterday and that is sitting just to a North. The winds will switch back by tonight to the East Southeast at 5 mph with Temperatures reaching the low 60’s.
Friday and Saturday will be the last of this long pattern as the upper level ridge moves to the East and more clouds begin to build throughout the weekend. Temperatures will stay in the mid 80’s with lows in the lower 60’s.
Our next trough will begin to move towards the Big Country by the beginning of the next work week bringing a Cold front along with it. Right now that front looks to pass through on Monday morning brining a drop in Temperatures Sunday into Monday. But there still is some uncertainty to when exactly it will come through. For right now Temperatures the beginning of next week should stay in the lower 70’s with rain chances up until Wednesday. After the front passes we will begin to see winds from the Northwest which will dry us out and alleviate the rain chances.

With the light winds and few clouds it was a perfect day to be outside. Today temperatures should cool down a couple degrees with everyone around the Big Country reaching into the 80’s. Wednesday Night Update

The warm afternoon temperatures continued today across the Big Country. Highs were in the upper 80s to low 90s. Dewpoints remained in the 50s, and it wasn't nearly as breezy as it has been over the past few days.
Above average temperatures look to remain Thursday and Friday as the upper level high pressure ridge remains in control over the area. Highs should be in the upper 80s to around 90.
The ridge should shift eastward this weekend allowing a trough to move closer to the region. An upper level low is expected to develop in this trough and send a few disturbances in our direction by Sunday and through early next week. A cold front is also expected to arrive in the Big Country late Monday into Tuesday. With moisture in place and these lifting mechanisms coming into the area there is a chance for rain starting Sunday and lasting until Wednesday. High temperatures will cool down from the mid 80s on Saturday to the low 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Wednesday Morning Update
Temperatures continue to remain above normal for the next few days but it does look like relief is in the forecast. Today we will cool down a few degrees most of us staying into the upper 80’s with just a few cities maybe hitting the lower 90’s. We will get a break from the winds, lightening up to around 5 mph. Over Night temps should stick in the mid 60’s.
Thursday through Saturday should be similar to the past week though we should see some more clouds towards the weekend. Temperatures will decrease a few more degrees getting into the Mid 80’s as the upper level ridge pushes to the East.
Behind that ridge we should see a trough move into place brining us a change in weather. Temperatures will get down to normal or even below normal for this time of year with highs reaching the low 80’s to upper 70’s. Right now there is a chance for rain Sunday through Tuesday with a cold front moving through sometime beginning of next week.

Tuesday Night Update

Above average temperatures continued across the Big Country today with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Dewpoints were in the 50s so it was relatively comfortable with mostly sunny skies. The breezy conditions remained today, but winds should lighten up tomorrow.
The upper level high pressure ridge will continue to sit over the area through Friday. This will keep our highs in the upper 80s to around 90 under mostly sunny skies.
The ridge should shift eastward this weekend allowing our temperatures to cool down into the mid 80s. There will probably be a little more cloud cover as well.
It looks like a cold front will move into the area early next week. With moisture already in place, there is a chance for some showers and thunderstorms. Right now that chance is 20%, but could increase as we get closer to Monday. Highs will likely be in the upper 70s to low 80s which is right at to slightly below average for this time of year.

The upper level ridge looks to remain until the weekend keeping with it Sunny skies and Starry nights. Temperatures will cool down just a few degrees making it into the upper 80’s Wednesday through the weekend as the center of the Ridge moves to our east. We will continue to get the South winds and they could be gusty at times.
Columbus could be brining us some luck as our next a big change could be in the forecast Sunday into Monday as our next best chance of rain looks to come on Columbus Day. We could also see our next Cold front pushing through the beginning of next week and we will know more about exacting timing over the next few days. Right now we should see temperatures to get back to normal towards the beginning of next week.

Monday Night Update

The upper level high pressure ridge that was the cause of our above average temperatures this weekend will continue to sit in our region for the entire work week. This means we can expect our highs to remain in the upper 80s to low 90s through Friday.
Changes may begin this weekend as the ridge shifts to the east. This means temperatures should cool down a little bit into the mid 80s. We'll probably have a little bit more cloud cover as well.
Temperatures will likely continue to cool early next week due to a possible cold front that may move into the area. For now, there is a 20% chance of rain that could increase as we get closer to that time period.

With an Upper Level Ridge sitting over us for the next week we will see the summer like conditions to continue. Today we should see Mostly Sunny skies with temperatures continuing to be in the low 90’s, the northern viewing areas could even reach mid 90’s. Temperatures overnight won’t be much of a break reaching into the upper 60’s with mostly clear skies. Winds will continue to be from the South between 10 and 20 mph but gusts could reach up 25 mph.
Through the rest of the work week we should see a similar trend with winds and temperatures. Towards the middle to the end of the week we could see temperatures drop a few degrees into the upper 80’s. This is because the center of the High will begin to move towards the East and the next Trough should begin to move into our area into the weekend and next week bringing our next big change in weather. For now no precipitation is in the forecast for the next seven days.

A Warm Work Week

The first of October was a warm one across much of the Big Country. Highs ranged from the low 80s in the western portions of the viewing area to the mid 90s in the southeast. The reason for the temperature differential was cloud cover. The sky was mostly cloudy for much of the day near Snyder while Brownwood had a mostly sunny one.
The upper level high pressure ridge that has built into the area this weekend will remain in place for at least the next seven days. This means the warm temperatures will hang around and rain chances will be pretty much zero. Highs look to be in the upper 80s to low 90s with lows in the mid to upper 60s.
