If you enjoyed the warm weather Sunday, you'll enjoy the warm weather forecast for Monday, too. One more day of above normal temperatures followed by a cold front early Tuesday which will drop temperatures closer to normal for this time of year.
A second cold front Thursday will bring a brief chill but in both instances, we aren't talking about long lasting effects and, unfortunately, we're not talking any rain at this point, just dry. We'll come close seeing rain Thursday but I think the moisture may be a little too far east of our area.
Sunday Night: High cloudiness and 52. South and southwest wind 10 to 15.
Monday: Partly cloudy and 77. Southwest wind 10 to 20 so the fire danger is elevated a little Monday due to dry conditions.
Monday Night: Partly cloudy and 50.
Tuesday: A cold front arrives, Partly cloudy with a high near 60 and north wind.
Tuesday night: Clear and 32.
Wednesday and Thursday: Near 62 each day.
Friday: Mostly sunny, 55.
Saturday-Sunday: Another warming trend, mid 60's to near 70.

Saturday Evening Update

Temperatures this afternoon managed to climb about 20 degrees higher than they were yesterday thanks to a drier air mass moving in and a couple of breaks in the cloud cover.
For the rest of this weekend, more of the same will be expected as temperatures will warm into the 70's tomorrow and even into Monday. A trough of low pressure will develop in far western Texas and eastern New Mexico by tomorrow, making for breezy conditions by tomorrow afternoon.
By Monday and Tuesday, very windy weather will continue and some wind gusts by Tuesday could approach the 40 mph range so be advised if you have plans on area lakes or if you drive a high profile vehicle.
Temperatures will cool towards the middle and latter part of next week as a series of cold fronts move through. The strongest front will pass through the area on Thursday and will bring with it a slight chance of rain for mainly our eastern and southeastern counties.

Friday Evening Update

After freezing rain, sleet, and a few snow flakes impacted the Big Country over the last few nights, warmer conditions are expected as we head into the weekend.
Afternoon highs will quickly warm into the 60's tomorrow and into the lower 70's by Sunday and into Monday. Drier conditions will also prevail from tonight through at least Monday.
On Monday night and into Tuesday morning, a cold front will move through the area, lowering high temperatures back into the upper 50's to near 60 but the frontal passage is expected to be dry at this time.
By next Thursday, another cold front and upper level storm system will move near enough to us to introduce a slight chance of rain. Right now, it appears that the bulk of the precipitation will remain well off to the east and north but this system will bear watching as we head towards the end of next week. With the frontal passage, temperatures will fall back into the low to mid 50's with low's in the low to mid 30's.

Much Warmer Temperatures This Weekend

We are starting off this morning with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. Some freezing rain, sleet and rain is moving through the southeastern half of the area at this time. This could cause some slick spots on bridges, overpasses and elevated objects. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destinations this morning. There is a Winter Storm Warning in effect until noon for the Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Nolan, Runnels, Shackelford, Taylor and Throckmorton counties. Comanche, Eastland and Stephens counties are under a Freezing Rain Advisory until noon. Brown county is under a Winter Weather Advisory until noon. It looks like temperatures will get above freezing areawide by mid to late morning, so these warnings and advisories may be canceled before noon. Temperatures will warm up throughout the day thanks in part to winds from the southwest by this afternoon. Highs should be in the mid to upper 40s. The chances of rain will decrease through the day.
By tonight, it should be dry with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures look to remain above freezing with lows in the mid to upper 30s.
Much warmer conditions are expected this weekend with highs in the mid 60s on Saturday and the low 70s on Sunday. If you are planning a golf outing or outdoor activity this weekend, I would suggest Saturday since it will be windy on Sunday.
A cold front is expected to move through the area late Monday. Highs should be in the low 70s. There is a 20% chance of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be cooler with highs in the upper 50s.

Icy Conditions Still Expected

It's 11:35pm Thursday as I write this .. light rain still covers much of the area. The temperature sits at 32 with the potential to drop another couple degrees in the night. Watch for ice on roadways through the early morning commute but the winter weather is going to be short lived. The temperature should warm above freezing as we go through the morning bringing an end to the threat of ice. By Friday afternoon, the majority of the showers should push to our east and that opens the door to some very nice weather this weekend with temperatures Saturday through Monday well above normal for this time of year.
So, watch for icy spots early Friday but enjoy a warm weekend!

Thanks for stopping by. As of 2:30pm, very light precipitation is showing up on Triple Doppler mainly west of a line from Roby to Sweetwater to San Angelo, but it's moving east/northeast.
We have a Winter Storm Watch in effect basically along and north of I-20, including Abilene, Sweetwater and east to DFW. The watch goes through Friday morning.
I feel we are on the temperature borderline dictating whether we see a cold rain or some sleet mixing in. I'm inclined to believe that it will be a mix of rain and sleet this afternoon into the evening, then be more of a sleet event as the temperature cools later tonight.
The forecast models for the overnight actually warm the temperature both here at the surface and aloft up to 5,000 feet which is the temperature layer that controls the form of precipitation we see. IF that's the case, we could end up with a mix of rain and sleet, which freezes enough to cause patchy ice issues.
As of now, I'd plan to see some ice along and north of a line from San Angelo to Coleman with the best chance for icy roads along and north of I-20.

A cold front moved through the area last night and we are continuing to see the cold air filter into the area this morning. We are also seeing some drier air move into the region as well. Temperatures will not warm much at all today with highs only expected to be in the mid 30s. We should see cloudy skies throughout the day. There will be some drizzle in the southern portions of the viewing area this morning and that could lead to some slick spots so be careful. There is a 20% chance of precipitation beginning late this afternoon in our western and southwestern communities. It is likely going to be in the form of a wintry mix.
The best chance for precipitation this week will be tonight and early tomorrow. That chance is 50% and it too is expected to be a wintry mix. It is likely that we will see mainly freezing rain and sleet, but some snow could mix in at times. Lows for tonight will be in the upper 20s with highs tomorrow reaching the low to mid 40s in the afternoon. This means that by late tomorrow morning, all of the precipitation should be in the form of rain. Any ice or snow out there will begin melting when we get above freezing. After looking at the latest computer models, I think our best time to see precipitation will be around 6 a.m. to noon on Friday.
There is a chance we could see significant accumulations of snow, sleet or ice tonight and tomorrow. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of the KRBC viewing area because of this. This watch begins tonight and is in effect through tomorrow morning. Winter Storm Watch in Effect

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Abilene and the Big Country for the period Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Cold air at the surface and warm moist air traveling above the cold should lead to light precipitation which could fall as a cold rain, sleet or snow. It appears Thursday night and Friday morning are the times favored for a wintry mix.
After the rain move east Friday evening, a warming trend begins. In fact, don't be surprised to see temperatures near 70 by Sunday and Monday before the next cold front late Monday arrives but it isn't expected to be as strong as the last two.
Be alert to rapidly changing weather Thursday afternoon through much of Friday as the storm system moves through.

Arctic Air and Wintry Precipitation Arrive Tomorrow

We are starting off this morning with conditions that are very similar to yesterday. Temperatures are in the upper 20s to low 30s with fog and light drizzle. Since we are below freezing, this is leading to slick spots on bridges, overpasses and other elevated objects. Please take your time in getting to your destinations this morning. With winds from the south and a few breaks in the clouds expected later today, we should warm up into the mid to upper 40s. If we don't see some sunshine today, then we will likely see highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.
The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory until noon for Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Nolan, Runnels, Shackelford, Taylor and Throckmorton counties. Be prepared for slippery roads in these areas.
Our next cold front should arrive tonight and bring arctic air back to the region. Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 20s, so protect your pets, plants and pipes. The extreme western portions of the viewing area could see a wintry mix tonight. The chance of precipitation is slight.
We will have better chances for precipitation Thursday and it will include the entire area. That chance is 20% for the majority of the Big Country. The chance of precipitation is 40% for the western portions of the viewing area. We are looking at a scenario that we call overrunning to take place Thursday and Friday. This is when warm, moist air runs up and over cold, dry air. The warm, moist air in this situation is coming from the Pacific Ocean. Temperatures should be cold enough that wintry preciptation will be possible. We will see a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain develop and move into the western-southwestern part of the viewing area during the day tomorrow and should be across the rest of the area by tomorrow night. It is Thursday night into Friday morning when we have the best chance at precipitation. That chance is 40% and could increase as we get closer to that time period. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Mitchell and Scurry counties for Thursday morning through late Thursday night. A Winter Storm watch has been issued for Callahan, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Nolan, Shackelford, Taylor and Throckmorton counties for Thursday evening through Friday morning. A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that could impact travel. Highs on Thursday will be in the low to mid 30s. For Friday, we will start with temperatures in the upper 20s. However, we should warm up into the mid to upper 40s in the afternoon. This means that all precipitation should change over to rain. The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory until noon for Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Nolan, Runnels, Shackelford, Taylor and Throckmorton counties. Be prepared for slippery roads in these areas.
Our next cold front should arrive tonight and bring arctic air back to the region. Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 20s, so protect your pets, plants and pipes. The extreme western portions of the viewing area could see a wintry mix tonight. The chance of precipitation is slight.
We will have better chances for precipitation Thursday and it will include the entire area. That chance is 20% for the majority of the Big Country. The chance of precipitation is 40% for the western portions of the viewing area. We are looking at a scenario that we call overrunning to take place Thursday and Friday. This is when warm, moist air runs up and over cold, dry air. The warm, moist air in this situation is coming from the Pacific Ocean. Temperatures should be cold enough that wintry preciptation will be possible. We will see a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain develop and move into the western-southwestern part of the viewing area during the day tomorrow and should be across the rest of the area by tomorrow night. It is Thursday night into Friday morning when we have the best chance at precipitation. That chance is 40% and could increase as we get closer to that time period. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Mitchell and Scurry counties for Thursday morning through late Thursday night. A Winter Storm watch has been issued for Callahan, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Nolan, Shackelford, Taylor and Throckmorton counties for Thursday evening through Friday morning. A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that could impact travel. Highs on Thursday will be in the low to mid 30s. For Friday, we will start with temperatures in the upper 20s. However, we should warm up into the mid to upper 40s in the afternoon. This means that all precipitation should change over to rain. This weekend will be much warmer with highs in the low to mid 60s under partly cloudy skies. There is a slight chance of rain Saturday and Sunday.

Winter Weather on the Way

You will defintely want to pay attention to the weather Wednesday night through Friday morning. It is that period of time when the KRBC viewing area will likely see some sort of winter weather event .. perhaps a mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain. After a cold front arrives Wednesday afternoon and reinforces the cold air, upper level disturbances coming in from the southwest will drop precipitation which could fall in a frozen variety. It looks like Thursday afternoon through Friday morning is the favored time for this event as it works in from the west.
Scurry and Mitchell counties were placed under a Winter Storm Watch Tuesday afternoon, indicating that 2 to 4 inches of snow could fall on Thursday. We will monitor this situation closely.
In the Big Country, we should brace for changes but I think by Friday, we'll warm above freezing and see our moisture fall as rain. By the weekend, it'll be warm again and the chance for rain ends by late Saturday. Weather Sunday through early next week looks nice and mild.

With a cold front moving through the area this morning, we have already seen our highs for today. They mainly occurred just after midnight, so the official high for the day will be a lot warmer than what we experience for much of the day. We will likely not make it past the mid to upper 30s this afternoon. With breezy conditions expected through the day, wind chills will be in the teens and 20s. We have had some dense fog and drizzle across portions of the area this morning. With temperatures at and below freezing in many locations, it is possible for us to have some slick spots so be careful and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

It looks like Thursday may be the coldest day of all, not getting out of the 30's. Another cold front will arrive late Wednesday to reinforce the first one. Colder Temperatures On The Way

We will experience windy conditions through the day with winds from the south-southeast at 15 to 25 mph. There is a 20% chance of showers for the eastern half of the viewing area. That is where the best moisture will be today thanks to some Gulf of Mexico moisture getting back into the area.
A cold front is expected to move through the area tonight. This will cause much colder temperatures for us Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be in the mid 40s. This frontal passage should be a dry one.
We will see a reinforcing shot of cold air with another cold front late Wednesday. This means even colder temperatures for us Thursday with highs only expected to reach the mid 30s. There is a 20% chance of precipitation Wednesday night into Thursday. We could see some light freezing drizzle or light freezing rain during this time period. If the precipitation occurs in the afternoon on Thursday, we should be just warm enough for it to be all liquid rain. Stay tuned as we will keep you up to date on the lastest as we get closer.

A Half and Half Weekend

Today started off cold with temperatures in the low to mid 20s across the area. By this afternoon we mainly warmed up into the upper 40s to 50. The southeastern portions of the viewing area were a bit colder due to overcast skies that lingered throughout the day. There was some light rain, sleet and snow in that area as well. There was very little, if any, accumulation.
A reinforcing cold front will move through the area tonight. This means cooler temperatures for us tomorrow with highs in the low to mid 40s under mostly sunny skies. Precipitaiton is not expected with the front.
Sunday looks to be warmer and windy. Highs should be in the mid to upper 50s under mostly sunny skies.
We will have a 20% chance of showers on Monday as another cold front approaches the area. Highs are expected to make into the mid to upper 50s before the front arrives Monday night.

Bitter cold temperatures continue across the Big Country again this morning and afternoon highs will remain below average as well.
Temperatures will remain well below average in the mornings throughout the rest of the week as reinforcing cold surges of air continue to move south across the area.
The majority of the extended forecast remains dry with the exception of Monday night and into Tuesday. It is possible that some light rain or drizzle could fall overnight on Monday and into Tuesday morning. Some of this drizzle could possibly freeze over and cause some trouble on the roadways so this situation will bear watching as we head into early next week.
Otherwise, below average temperatures and mostly cloudy conditions will prevail throughout the majority of the early and middle part of next week with highs mainly in the 40's and lows in the 20's.

Chilly Temperatures Stick Around

We started off cold this morning with temperatures in the low to mid 20s across the Big Country. Temperatures warmed up into the mid to upper 30s this afternoon. We only warmed up a little bit today due in part to the overcast skies that were with us through lunchtime.
A reinforcing cold shot should come into the region tomorrow behind another cold front. No precipitation is expected, but winds will shift from the south to the northwest. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s under partly cloudy skies for Friday.
Saturday looks dry and chilly with highs in the mid 40s.
Sunday is expected to be the warmest day out of the next seven with highs in the mid to upper 50s with windy conditions.
Another cold front should move through the area on Monday. This will bring us a 20% chance of showers. Highs, for now, look to be in the upper 40s to 50. The high temperature for the start of next week will be very dependant on exactly when the cold front arrives.
There is a chance we may see some light freezing drizzle or light freezing rain overnight Monday into early Tuesday as temperatures will be below freezing. During the day we should warm up into the upper 30s with a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon.
We will continue with the 20% chance of rain on Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 40s.

Another cold front should move through the area on Monday. This will bring us a 20% chance of showers. Highs, for now, look to be in the upper 40s to 50. The high temperature for the start of next week will be very dependant on exactly when the cold front arrives.
There is a chance we may see some light freezing drizzle or light freezing rain overnight Monday into early Tuesday as temperatures will be below freezing. During the day we should warm up into the upper 30s with a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon.

A Frigid Thursday Morning

The Cold front began its move through the Big Country in the early afternoon Wednesday and was all the way through by dinner time. Behind it strong Northerly winds kept temperatures dropping through the late night hours.
This morning it is bitterly cold. Temperatures are in the low to mid 20's with winds factored in wind chill values are in the single digits to teens. It may be to cold for comfort outside so make sure you bundle up as you head out the door grabbing the gloves, scarf and hat . Through the day we will see mostly cloudy skies keeping the highs only in the upper 30's. That means you may want to keep the winter gear ready even if you have to head out on an errand. Tonight again the temperatures will fall into the lower 20's.
By the start to the weekend highs will reach back into the upper 40's with sunshine peaking through some clouds.
For all of you who may like a little warmer, Saturday through Monday highs return to the 50's with lows in the 30's . The next front arrives Tuesday bringing a slight chance of precipitation Monday night through Wednesday.

The Cold Air Has Arrived

It was a chilly start to the day with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s this morning. We were able to warm up into the upper 40s to low 60s this afternoon. The reason for the differences in high temperatures was due to the arrival of a cold front. It moved through Snyder around lunchtime and was making it way into the southeastern portion of the viewing area late this afternoon.
We will have cold temperatures to start off tomorrow with morning lows in the low to mid 20s. Remember to protect your pets, plants and pipes tonight. You will need to bundle up anytime you are outside tomorrow as highs should only be in the upper 30s to low 40s. There is a slight chance of seeing a few snow flurries tonight and tomorrow, but it won't be anything significant.
Friday and the weekend are looking are dry right now with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
Another cold front should move through the area late Monday. This will bring cooler temperatures to the Big Country for Tuesday and next Wednesday. It looks like we will have enough moisture back in the area for us to have some chances for rain. Right now that chance is 20% on Monday and Tuesday and slight for next Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed that this rain pans out for us because we could really use it right now. We have only seen 0.01" of precipitation so far at Abilene Regional Airport.

A Cold front is just making its way into the Panhandle and this front is brining artic air to the Big Country. Rain chances look very slim with a very light shower possible. The big story will be the drastic change from above average temps to below. Highs today will hit in the early afternoon and before the front arrives, after, temperatures will begin to drop. Clouds will again make there appearance only helping it to feel cooler.
The rest of the week cold will be the main word. Lows dip into the 20's until the weekend with highs on Thursday in the upper 30's to low 40's. Friday will get just a little bit warmer. The 50's return for the weekend into early next week along with another rain chance by the beginning of the work week.

Cold Front Is On The Way

It was another cold start to the day with temperatures in the low 20s to low 30s across the Big Country. Highs this afternoon were in the 50s. We were a bit cooler today thanks to mostly cloudy skies during the prime heating hours of the day.
Tomorrow looks to be cooler due to a cold front moving through the area. It should arrive in the northwestern part of the area by mid-morning. Highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s under mostly cloudy skies. There is a slight chance of seeing a few sprinkles or light showers with the arrival of the front.
Wednesday night is expected to be one of the coldest this week with lows in the in the low to mid 20s. We'll need to remember to protect our pets, plants, and pipes. There is a slight chance of some snow flurries overnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Mostly cloudy skies should be with us through the day on Thursday with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. These temperatures are well below average for this time of year.

Warmth Comes to an End

It was a carbon copy day yesterday from Sunday and today will only continue the streak. It’s a cool morning out there, one to definitely use the heater on the way to work but by the time you come home your air conditioner may need to be turned on. Highs today will hit the upper 50's to low 60's. We will still have some sunshine but clouds will begin to take over and stick around over the next couple days.
A low pressure system will bring rain to south Texas. We could see an isolated shower in out very southern counties overnight but most of the activity will stay isolated south and east. This system will help to fuel a little more moisture into our area but by tomorrow a strong artic front will knock out the moisture and bring much cooler temperatures. If we have enough moisture and can squeeze out any precip during the cold hours we could see some frozen preicp however the chances are looking very slight.
Behind the front cold air settles in for the rest of the week with highs in the 40's Wednesday and Thursday and lows in the 20's. By the weekend we return to more average highs in the mid 50's.

Much Colder Temperatures On The Horizon

We had a cold start to the day with temperatures in the mid 20s to low 30s. By this afternoon, it was mild for this time of year with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Tomorrow will be very similar to today with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Wind direction is the main difference expected tomorrow with south-southwest winds at 5 to 15 mph.
A strong cold front should move through the area on Wednesday bringing us the coldest temperatures we have had in almost two weeks. Highs look to be in the upper 40s to low 50s. There is a slight chance of rain for mainly the eastern and southeastern portions of the viewing area. That is where the best moisture will be in the region when the front arrives.
We could see the rain transition to some snow flurries for the area overnight Wednesday into early Thursday morning. Again, it is only a slight chance at this time to see some precipitation during this time period. It will be a cold start for us on Thursday with temperatures in the low to mid 20s. It is another cold start to the week as temperatures this morning are ranging from the mid 20's to mid 30's. Through the day we will see plenty of sunshine with temperatures rising to the upper 50's to low 60's. Winds will be fairly light through the day and night.
Tonight and tomorrow cloud cover will begin to build thanks to an upper level low on the Mexico/ Arizona border. This low will trek through Mexico and push into Southern Texas. The bulk of the activity looks to stay mainly to the south and east with our southern counties receiving the most impact. Along with this low a cold front makes its way through on Wednesday. This front will bring significantly cooler temperatures with highs dropping to the 40's for Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight lows will drop into the 20's. With the cooler temperatures the precip could fall as a frozen precip or snow if all factors play out right. Again there is only a slight chance to see any activity Wednesday and Thursday.

For next weekend, temperatures will begin to rebound a bit but another cold front on Saturday will hold temperatures in the low 50's.

Saturday Evening Update

Another cold front managed to pass through the area early this morning and much drier air has continued to filter into the area. Afternoon high temperatures have cooled a little since yesterday but still remain at or above seasonal averages in the mid to upper 50's.
Several more average days are in store for us here in the Big Country as morning lows in the mid 30's will give way to afternoon highs in the mid to upper 50's.
As we approach mid week, however, a more significant cold front will allow much colder air to move into west central Texas by Wednesday and Thursday. There will also be a slight chance of precipitation beginning on Wednesday night and lasting through Friday. Right now, it appears as if warm, moist air may overrun cooler air at the surface and cause a few showers to develop across mainly the northern and eastern Big Country.

We started off chilly this morning with lows mainly in the mid 20s to mid 30s. We warmed up nice this afternoon thanks to a dry airmass, mostly sunny skies and southwest winds. Highs were in the mid 60s to low 70s.
A cold front will move through the area tomorrow morning. This means cooler temperatures for us this weekend. Highs look to be in the mid to upper 50s Saturday and Sunday under partly cloudy skies. Due to a lack of moisture, this will be a dry frontal passage for us Saturday morning.
Monday and Tuesday should be dry with highs in the mid to upper 50s under partly cloudy skies.

Thursday Evening Update

Friday looks pleasant with highs in mid to upper 60s under partly cloudy skies. It will be a bit breezy at times with winds from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph.
Another cold front is expected to move through the Big Country Saturday morning. This will bring cooler temperatures back to the region with highs in the mid to upper 50s. It doesn't look like we have enough moisture to support signifcant rain. A sprinkle can't be completely ruled out, but the chance is less than slight. That means it is less 10%.

It is a chilly morning across the Big Country with wind chills feeling like the lower 40's. A cold front is progressing through this morning beginning to switch our winds and that means a cooler afternoon will set up.
The cold front should be through by 8 am with high pressure building in behind it. Plenty of sunshine may make it feel mild but highs will only reach to the around 60. Overnight calmer winds and clear skies will mean lows dropping to the lower 30's.
Tomorrow will be another quiet day with lower 60's and lows in the lower 30's. Saturday the next front makes its punch and drops highs to the mid 50's and lows in the lower 30's. Unfortunately this will be another dry passage for our area.
Another front may brace our area come Monday but shouldn’t bring much drop in temperatures. The rest of the week temperatures will stay with highs in the 50's and lows around freezing.

Tomorrow will be another quiet day with lower 60's and lows in the lower 30's. Saturday the next front makes its punch and drops highs to the mid 50's and lows in the lower 30's. Unfortunately this will be another dry passage for our area.
Another front may brace our area come Monday but shouldn’t bring much drop in temperatures. The rest of the week temperatures will stay with highs in the 50's and lows around freezing.

Wednesday Evening Update

We started off cold this morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s across the area. Thanks to breezy south-southwest winds we were able to warm up nicely this afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
A cold front is expected to move through the region tomorrow morning bringing cooler temperatures back for us. Highs should be in the upper 50s to low 60s. Unfortunately we don't have enough moisture in the area to support rain so it will be a dry frontal passage. Winds for Thursday will be from the north-northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Friday looks dry with highs in the low to mid 60s under mostly cloudy skies.
Another cold front should move through the Big Country Saturday morning bringing cooler temperatures back once again. This will also be a dry frontal passage due to a lack of moisture. Highs look to be in the mid 50s under mostly sunny skies.
Sunday will be cool with highs in the mid 50s as well.
We may see a weak cold front move through the region on Monday. This will cool temperatures a little bit with highs in the low 50s. There is a slight chance of rain right now, but that could change depending on the amount of moisture that is expected to be in the area at that time.

We saw a cool start to the work week with a front rolling through in the early hours of the day. Temperatures made it up to seasonable highs in the mid 50's. Overnight we have cooled down significantly with clear skies and lighter winds allowing those temperatures to drop.
As you head out bundle up and grab some hot coffee but wear the layers as this afternoon we will warm back up to the lower 60's. High pressure will be the main player today allowing us to see plenty of sunshine. Off to our west a trough is developing which will keep the west Texas winds blowing with gusts over 20 mph. Tonight begins repeated front rolling through over the next several days.
One front will come through in the early hours of Thursday this will actually keep our temperatures a little more mild as the winds stay gusty. A Mini-Roller Coaster Ride Ahead

It was much cooler around the area today thanks to a cold front that moved through this morning. Highs were mainly in the mid to upper 50s. Unfortunately we didn't see any rain with the front. Our rainfall deficit for 2008 is already over a quarter of an inch at Abilene Regional Airport. It is not out of the ordinary for us to be dry in January as it is our driest month on average for precipitation.
Tomorrow should be warmer and breezy with highs in the low to mid 60s under partly cloudy skies.

We saw a beautiful start to the second week in January but overnight a cold front began its march toward the Big Country. The cold front was just to our north in the early morning hours but a pre frontal trough brought a few showers in Comanche county.
The cold front will roll through by the morning commute and keep temperatures cooler to kick of Tuesday. Along with that the moisture will again be pushed out and drier air takes back over. Plenty of sunshine will help to make it feel warmer although temperatures won’t break out of upper 50's to low 60’s. Overnight we will see a cold night return with temperatures in the lower 30's.
The rest of the week a high pressure takes hold until the next front pushes through. We will see a mostly sunny sky with temperatures in the lower 60's and lows in the mid 30's. Into the weekend the next front will drop highs to the lower 50's and lows around 30. Another front by late weekend will bring a slight chance of precipitation Saturday night into Sunday.

Cooler Temperatures Are On The Way

We once again had above average temperatures this afternoon. Highs were mainly in the low to mid 70s which is about 20 degrees above average for this time of year. Breezy south-southwesterly winds were felt from mid-morning to mid-afternoon.
The breezy conditions will stick around tomorrow, but they will be from a different direction. A cold front should move through during the morning hours shifting our winds to the north-northwest. Much cooler temperatures are expected with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. It doesn't look like we will have any rain from the front. The chance of precipitation is less than slight and will mainly be for the eastern portions of the viewing area.
Wednesday should be a little warmer with highs in the mid 60s under partly cloudy skies.
A second cold front is expected to move through the region on Thursday. This will cool us down a little bit with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s under partly cloudy skies. It looks like this will be a dry frontal passage for our area.
We go back up the temperature roller coaster ride again on Friday with highs in the low to mid 60s with mostly sunny skies.
Yet another cold front is expected to move through the Big Country on Saturday. This will likely bring us the coldest air of the week with highs in the low 50s for the weekend. There is a slight chance of precipitaiton on Saturday due to the front and upper level disturbance moving through the area.

We saw a warm and beautiful weekend despite some windy conditions across the area. Temperatures felt more like fall then the beginning of January. I hope you all enjoyed our trip back to warmer temperatures because come tonight that will be changing.
This morning temperatures are very mild starting mainly in the 50's. We also have something that you may feel when you step out the door- humidity. A bit of cloud cover is covering mainly Abilene eastward but that should burn off with scattered clouds in the afternoon. It will be another above average day as temperatures rise to the lower 70's. This evening our next front makes it shove through the Big Country. With it temperatures will drop to the mid 40's. This system could produce a few showers in our southeastern counties with the rest of us staying dry.
Behind the front we will see just a few clouds and temperatures for the next few days in the lower 60's with lows in the mid 30's.
By the weekend another colder front makes its impact with temperatures dropping to highs in the low 50's and lows in the lower 30's.

Sunday Evening Update

Another warm day today in west central Texas with highs again reaching the mid to upper 70's. Tonight, temperatures will again be mild with lows in the mid 50's. For tomorrow, it will be more of the same but a cool down will be expected tomorrow night which will last for much of the upcoming week.
A series of cold fronts will move through the area beginning tomorrow night. These fronts will hold afternoon highs in the vicinity of the 60 degree mark until this weekend when a stronger front will move through causing highs to fall into the lower 50's.
Overnight lows will remain seasonal in the mid 30's throughout the upcoming week. Chances for precipitation will be slight but it is possible for a few showers to pop up in the eastern Big Country late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night.

We had another warm and windy day here in the Big Country with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s. That is about 20 to 25 degrees above average for this time of year. Winds were from the south-southwest at 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts.
Sunday will be very similar to today with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. The record high at Abilene Regional Airport for tomorrow's date is 83 set back in 1927 so we will be close to record warmth. Winds should be from the south-southwest at 15 to 25 mph.
The work and school week looks to start warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s. A cold front is expected to move through the area during the evening and overnight hours. Rain chances are less than slight for us. The better dynamics for rain will likely be too far to the north with the best moisture too far to the east. A less than slight chance means less than 10%, so this will probably be a dry frontal passage for us.

Today we still sunshine with scattered clouds as some moisture returns to the area. Winds will be a key factor as they gusts over 30 mph and thrust temperatures rising to the low 60's. Overnight thanks to the winds we should keep our lows around 50.
This weekend will be a windy one as winds continue through Sunday. The good news is we are going to warm up. High will be in the mid 70's with lows in the lower 50's.

2008 will be known for coming in with a cold streak. We hit the coldest temperatures in the Big Country that we have seen since back in December of 2005. The good news- it is warming up. Temperatures this morning are in the low 30's thanks to southerly winds and cloud cover due to a disturbance moving over head in the upper levels. This system is causing a blanket of mid and upper level clouds as well as precipitation in the upper levels. A few sprinkles are making to the ground but with the dry air at the surface almost all activity evaporates before it hits the ground.
This system will continue to push east and most of the cloud cover moves along giving way to plenty of sunshine with a few clouds through the day. As the jet stream is now pushed north a warming trend will continue through the weekend. We will deal with one drier day but moisture should begin its return into the weekend. Highs today rebound to more seasonable like making it into the mid 50's. Overnight we will get down to upper 30’s.
This weekend partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures hitting around 70 will persist with high pressure the main player. Overnight lows will be around 50.

After a very cold night last night with temperatures falling well into the teens, all of us in the Big Country will see slightly warmer temperatures in the mid 20's for tonight.
The coldest weather for this week is behind us however, as warmer temperatures will be expected for tomorrow through the weekend and into early next week.
Although the cold weather will not stay with us for much longer, the dry weather will last at least until the early to middle part of next week. By Monday night and into Tuesday, an upper level storm system will move close enough to us to bring in moisture from the Gulf and warrant at least a slight chance of showers.
Temperatures will remain in the low 70's throughout the weekend and into Monday before another cool down takes place on Tuesday.

We saw a cold start to the 2008 year as temperatures dropped into the teens. Yesterday there was plenty of sunshine with a dry air mass in place but the highs only made it into the upper 40's. With the winds blowing it continued to feel chilly even during the afternoon.
It is another bitterly cold morning, bundle up because temperatures are in the teens with the winds making it feel even colder. You may want to start the car a few minutes early as it will take a while to heat up on your way to work. Highs today will only reach the mid to upper 40’s with a few high clouds. Tonight we will warm up into the 20's as the winds begin to switch out of the southeast .
As a high pressure pushes east our winds will stay out of the southeast into the weekend. This will mean moisture and warmer air returning to the Big Country. Highs gradually increase to the 60's by the weekend. Lows will go from 20's tonight to 40's for the weekend.
Early next week a disturbance may cause a few showers Monday night into Tuesday. Since we just started a new year we are in a deficit but we did end 2007 with 12 inches in the rain bucket.

Tuesday Evening Update

After a very cold start to the New Year last night, temperatures tonight will be even colder. Surface high pressure continues to build in bringing cold and very dry air south into west central Texas. Tomorrow, afternoon high temperatures will be fairly cool as well but a warming trend will begin starting on Thursday which will last through the weekend.
No significant chance for any rainfall will be in the forecast throughout the next seven days as drier air continues to remain over the area. Until the Gulf of Mexico opens up and allows deeper moisture to return northward, chances for rain will remain slim to nil across the Big Country.

Monday Afternoon Update
From Meteorologist Nathan Motz....
We will start of the new year with very, very cold temperatures overnight. Some locations in the western and northern Big Country will see temperatures dip into the upper teens. Here in Abilene, temperatures will likely remain in the lower 20's.
Tomorrow, afternoon high temperatures will be cooler as well with readings only in the mid to upper 40's. After tomorrow, however, we begin to warm up considerably and by the end of the week, highs will be pushing 70 degrees.
2008 will also begin just as we ended 2007 in terms of precipitation: very dry. The first real shot at precipitation will not come until sometime early next week which is just beyond our forecast period. Until then, mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures will dominate the forecast through the end of this week.

A cold front is moving through our counties this morning and it is packing a punch. This Arctic air will mean a colder end to 2007 and chilly beginning to 2008. Today we will see plenty of sunshine but the winds will be breezy as they gust up to 25 mph out of the North. Temperatures will only make it into the lower 50's.
When you head out tonight to celebrate bundle up as temperatures around dinner time will already be dropping and as we kick off 2008 lows will bottom out in the lower 20's.
Behind the front a high will build in which means lots of sunshine and winds continue out of the North until mid week. This means a few days of highs in the upper 40's and yes lows for the first night of 2008 in the upper teens!
As we get closer to the weekends the winds will switch out of the south and bring back some warmth as highs reach into the lower 60's with lows in the lower 40's.

Temperatures have warmed up today getting into the mid 50's to low 60's. We have seen plenty of sunshine with clouds making their passing. Overnight lows will get down to upper 20's with partly cloudy skies as shortwave brushes across our region.
Tomorrow the high pressure will slide off to our east. The winds will continue to bring in some warmth as temperatures warm into the mid 60's. It will also be a bit breezy with winds gusting to around 20 mph. Grab the short selves but don’t pack the jackets away! Just in time for the next holiday a front arrives in our area. Monday morning the front will slide through switching our winds out of the North which will keep our highs back in the lower 50's for the last day in 2007. With an artic chill filtering in bundle up for all your celebrations as temperatures will drop to the lower 20's as 2008 kicks off.

Warmer Weekend Ahead

Tonight with light winds and clear skies lows will drop even colder than last night getting into the mid 20's. Tomorrow our winds should begin to switch out of the South which will help us warm up with highs in the mid to upper 50's. By Sunday highs should get into the mid 60's with southwesterly winds dominating. If you have any outdoor plans Sunday will be perfect for them!
Just in time to kick of 2008 a strong artic front makes its barge into the Big Country. The front should arrive late New Years Eve with temperatures dropping in the lower 20's. Highs by mid week will only reach in the upper 40's. As a ridge sets up the quiet weather pattern will continue until late week.

Winds Will Calm Down

It was a very chilly start to our Thursday with temperatures plummeting to the mid 20's. This afternoon we warmed up to the mid 50's but the winds blew strong gusting over 30 mph.
The winds are going to be the main player tonight as a low pressure system pushes just south of our area. This will keep the winds up which will also help our temperatures to stay above 30. As the system pushes on tomorrow morning and another high pressure builds the winds will calm down.
Tomorrow our highs will begin a gradual warm up going from mid 50's Friday to mid 60's Sunday, lows in the lower 30's. Plenty of sunshine is on store until a front makes its way in by the early week. We will see a few clouds but the rain chances are still not in the forecast as we will continue to be quit dry. After the front our highs return Tuesday though Thursday in the upper 40's to low 50's with lows back in the 20's.

We saw a cold front roll through early this morning, with it cooler temperatures blanketed the Big Country with plenty of cloud cover and wind gusts over 30 mph. The sunshine finally broke in the early afternoon warming temperatures into the mid to upper 40's.
As high pressure slides in and winds drop we will see a very cold night on store as temperatures fall to the upper 20's. Tomorrow our highs will return to average as they climb to the mid 50's.
The next few days we will see a quiet weather pattern as highs go from the mid 50's to even 60's Sunday. A few nights will be chilly especially Friday night as lows drop to around 30. Otherwise most nights the lows will stay in the mid 30's.
Kicking off 2008 another front will roll through dropping highs back to the upper 40's. Over the next few days we may deal with gusty winds but the rain chances look nil.

Tuesday Afternoon Update

For us here in west central Texas, it was a warm and breezy Christmas day as temperatures soared into the low to mid 60's areawide. Winds out of the south and southwest continue to blow at a brisk 15 - 20 mph.
Tonight, a cold front will pass through the area and cool temperatures down tomorrow afternoon into the mid 40's. Upper level energy will spread east across northwest Texas tonight and will provide a very slight chance for isolated snow flurries from Snyder and Roby over to Aspermont and Haskell.
Mostly sunny and dry conditions will then take over through at least next weekend beneath strong westerly winds aloft.
Early next week, models are indicating that there is the possibility of a strong cold front moving through the area. This front could easily drop high temperatures well into the 30's by Tuesday. This system will bear watching and the forecast will likely change between now and Tuesday, but it does look like a very strong push of colder air will work its way into the area sometime early next week.

Temperatures this afternoon were a little warmer again today but still a few degrees below average after a strong cold front moved through the area over the weekend. By tomorrow afternoon, however, afternoon highs will once again run about 10 degrees above normal into the low to mid 60's.
More dry weather is also in store for the Big Country this week. Several cold fronts will pass through the area this week, beginning late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. This front will cool us back down to around 50 degrees by Wednesday but will not provide any chance for precipitation.
Temperatures Thursday through the weekend will remain in the mid to upper 50's area wide with little to no chance for precipitation. Do keep in mind, however, that the winter months are normally our driest here in west central Texas.

Much Colder For The Weekend

I hope you got outside and enjoyed our last warm day for a while because below average temperatures are expected starting tomorrow. Highs today were in the low to mid 70s. It was windy with winds from the south-southwest at 20 to 25 mph with higher gusts.
A cold front looks to move through the area tomorrow morning. This will bring much colder temperatures for us. Highs should be in the mid to upper 40s. That could occur early in the day with temperatures holding steady or dropping in the afternoon. It will feel even colder with north winds of 20 to 30 mph. If you are going to be out doing some Christmas shopping, bundle up. There is a slight chance of precipitation tomorrow. It will mainly be in the liquid form. It is not out of the question for some snowflakes to mix in with the rain in the northern portions of the area. Accumulation would not be likely if snow mixed with rain. It is only a slight chance of precipitation due to a lack of moisture in our area.
The coldest night of the week will be Saturday night with lows in the low to mid 20s. It looks like we should have a hard freeze that night so protect your pets, plants and pipes. We look to have a pleasant afternoon Sunday with highs in the low to mid 50s under mostly sunny skies.
Another cold front is expected to arrive early Monday. Highs will cool back down into the low to mid 40s. We only have a slight chance of precipitation once again due to a lack of moisture. It looks like it will be just rain for us, but with temperatures at or below freezing to start off the morning we could see some frozen precipitation. Even if we did, it would melt due to temperatures getting above freezing during the day.

We begin today fairly cool once again only to see very warm temperatures again this afternoon. High's will top out in the upper 60's to near 70 degree range again this afternoon as dry air moves in behind a weak wind shift line (cool front) that moved through yesterday evening.
Tomorrow, we will see more of the same, a cool morning followed by a very warm afternoon. Changes will occur on Saturday however, as a stronger cold front moves through the area bringing much cooler temperatures and a slight chance of rain.
The cooler weather will last through the weekend and another hard freeze will be expected on Saturday night and again for some locations on Sunday night.

Wednesday Evening Update

We had a cold start to the day this morning with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. By this afternoon, we had well above average temperatures with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
A weak cold front will move through the area tonight. This means cooler temperatures for us tomorrow. Highs look to be in the mid to upper 60s under mostly sunny skies. It may be a bit breezy with winds from the west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph.
Friday should be warm and windy with highs in the low to mid 70s under partly cloudy skies.
Another much stronger cold front is expected to move through the area Friday night into early Saturday. This will bring much colder temperatures to the area for the weekend. We may have just enough moisture for some precipitation so there is a slight chance for rain. Highs on Saturday will be in the low to mid 40s under partly cloudy skies. It should also be windy on Saturday so it will feel even colder than it actually is.
Sunday looks pleasant, but it will start out cold with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. By the afternoon, highs should be in the upper 40s to low 50s.
A third cold front is expected to move through the area late Sunday into early Monday. This will reinforce the cold air that is already in place. We started off cold this morning with temperatures ranging from 30 to 40 across the area. By this afternoon, though, it was warm with highs in the low to mid 70s. That is about 15 degrees above average for this time of year. It was a bit breezy today with winds from the west/southwest.
We will see similar conditions tomorrow with morning lows in the mid to upper 30s. Afternoon highs look to be in the low to mid 70s. It will be breezy at times with winds from the south/southwest at 10 to 15 mph. With warm temperatures, low relative humidity values and breezy conditions, there is a bit of an elevated fire danger so please put off any outdoor burning plans you may have had for a while.

We will have a weak cold front move through the area late Wednesday. It should be a dry frontal passage because we will be too dry to support precipitation right now. Windy conditions are expected for Friday.
Another cold front looks to move through the area late Friday. Once again, precipitation does not look likely as we will have a lack of moisture. This will bring much cooler conditions for the weekend. Highs on Saturday should be in the low 50s with windy conditions and partly cloudy skies. Winter officially begins Saturday at 12:08 a.m. Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 50s.

We had a very cold start to the day with temperatures well below freezing this morning. Lows ranged from the upper teens to mid 20s across the area. With mostly sunny skies, a dry airmass and southerly winds, we were able to warm up into the low to mid 50s this afternoon.
Above average temperatures are expected for the work week. The jetstream will be in a zonal flow for much of the week. This means there will be no major troughs or ridges in the region. Dry conditions are expected Monday through Friday. Highs will range from the upper 50s at the beginning of the work week to the upper 60s by the end.
A cold front looks to move through the region late Friday into early Saturday. This will bring much cooler temperatures to the Big Country next weekend. Highs should be in the low to mid 50s with lows in the low to mid 30s.

Saturday Afternoon Update

Tonight will most likely be the coldest night of this winter season here in west central Texas. As winds calm down and skies remain clear, good radiational cooling will take place and allow temperatures to slip into the low to mid 20's.
Temperatures will recover nicely tomorrow afternoon into the 50's areawide and even warmer weather will be in store as we head into the middle of next week.
In terms of precipitation chances, they will be hard to come by next week. Mostly sunny skies will prevail for the majority of next week and the above average afternoon high temperatures will continue until late week when a cold front will cool us down again for the start of next weekend.

Cold and Foggy For Now, But Warmer Temps On The Horizon

It has been chilly and foggy across much of the Big Country today. Some areas, like Brownwood, have mainly just been cloudy with fog at times. Temperatures this afternoon range from the upper 30s in Snyder to the low 50s in Brownwood.
A cold front is expected to move across the area later tonight. An upper level trough still looks to move into and across the region overnight into tomorrow morning. We have a 20% chance of showers during the evening. After midnight, the rain may mix with or possibly change over to all snow for the northern half of the viewing area. The fog will continue for us as well and it could be dense at times. This could lead to some slick spots on bridges and overpasses in those areas that get to and below freezing tonight so be careful. Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 30s.
We have a 20% chance of morning rain and snow showers. Once again, it will likely only be the northern half of the area that will see the frozen precipitation. Very little, if any, snow accumulation is expected. Whatever we do see will quickly melt because highs look to be in the low to mid 40s Saturday afternoon. We should also have decreasing clouds throughout the day, so some sunshine is possible by late in the afternoon. Windy conditions are expected for tomorrow with winds from the north-northwest at 15 to 25 mph. Dress warmly if you are going to be attending any of the high school football playoff games tomorrow.
Saturday night will be the coldest night of the week with lows in the mid to upper 20s. Be sure to take care of your pets, plants and pipes.

Colder Temperatures Return Tomorrow

It was a beautiful afternoon here in the Big Country today. We started off cold with temperatures in the upper 20s to mid 30s this morning. There was some patchy fog across parts of the area too. The fog cleared and we ended up with mostly sunny skies for the majority of the day. This helped temperatures warm up into the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Colder temperatures will return to the area tomorrow due to cloudy skies and the arrival of a cold front. We could start with some patchy fog in the morning. Highs look to be in the upper 40s to low 50s. There is a 20% chance of showers thanks to the front as well as an upper level trough that should begin moving towards the area.
The chance for precipitation will increase to 30% Friday night and linger through Saturday morning. Lows look to be in the low to mid 30s so we will likely see a change to all snow or at least a rain/snow mix across the Big Country. Our chances for precipitation are not higher because moisture will be limited and the projected track of trough is a little too far to the north.
If you have any plans to do shopping or go to the high school football playoff games on Saturday, you will need to dress warmly, but there will be no need for rain gear. The upper level trough will be a quick mover so we should see decreasing clouds through the day on Saturday. Highs look to be in the low to mid 40s.

Warmer Tomorrow, But Colder Friday

It was a cold day for us here in the Big Country today. Temperatures were in the 30s throughout the day. We had some precipitation move across the area. It was mainly in the form of rain, but there was some freezing rain and sleet during the morning hours in the northern and western portions of the area. There was very little, if any, ice accumulation in those locations. With temperatures getting above freezing this afternoon areawide, all the precipitation was in the liquid form.
We will see decreasing clouds overall tonight, but some patchy dense fog is possible. Be aware of reduced visibilities. Lows tonight will be in the low to mid 30s, so some of this fog could cause slick spots on bridges and overpasses. Be careful if you are going to be out during the overnight hours and as you are going to work and school tomorrow morning.
The fog should be gone by mid morning and we will see mostly sunny skies for the rest of the day on Thursday. Highs look to be in the mid 50s to 60, which is seasonal for this time of year.

More Wintry Precipitation Possible

We have had a roller coaster ride of temperatures today here in the Big Country. It was 55 at 4:25 a.m. this morning at Abilene Regional Airport. That was our high for the day as a warm front moved into the area overnight. An hour later we reached our low for the day at 35 thanks to showers and a few thunderstorms as well as the warm front moving back south. We picked up 0.19" of rain, which put us at 35.67" for the year. According to the records, 2007 is now the seventh wettest year ever in Abilene.
A cold front will continue moving through the area this evening. This will bring us colder temperatures tonight and Wednesday. An upper level trough remains to our west. This will continue to make its way east-northeast towards us tonight. We will have a 30% chance of rain after midnight. The chance for precipitation will increase to 40% during the day tomorrow as the trough passes us by to the north during the afternoon and evening. Parts of the area could see freezing rain and sleet between 3 a.m. and noon on Wednesday because temperatures will be at or below freezing during that time. It looks like the best chance of seeing frozen precipitation would be along and northwest of a line from Colorado City to Sweetwater to Abilene to Albany to Throckmorton. If there were to be any problems, it would be on bridges, overpasses and other elevated objects. Everyone will see temperatures above freezing by the afternoon so the precipitation would just be rain then. Lows tonight should be in the upper 20s to mid 30s with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s.

A cold front will continue moving through the area this evening. This will bring us colder temperatures tonight and Wednesday. An upper level trough remains to our west. This will continue to make its way east-northeast towards us tonight. We will have a 30% chance of rain after midnight. The chance for precipitation will increase to 40% during the day tomorrow as the trough passes us by to the north during the afternoon and evening. Parts of the area could see freezing rain and sleet between 3 a.m. and noon on Wednesday because temperatures will be at or below freezing during that time. It looks like the best chance of seeing frozen precipitation would be along and northwest of a line from Colorado City to Sweetwater to Abilene to Albany to Throckmorton. If there were to be any problems, it would be on bridges, overpasses and other elevated objects. Everyone will see temperatures above freezing by the afternoon so the precipitation would just be rain then. Lows tonight should be in the upper 20s to mid 30s with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s.
Thursday is expected to be dry with highs in the mid 50s under partly cloudy skies.
Another cold front as well as an upper level trough look to move through the region Friday and Saturday. As of now, it looks like highs for both days will be in the low 40s. Lows on Friday night are expected to be in the upper 20s to low 30s. We have a 30% chance of precipitation. It will likely begin as rain and then transition to snow during the night. The snow will probably come to an end Saturday morning. This is a situation we are keeping a close eye on so stay tuned.
Sunday through next Tuesday are expected to be dry with highs in the 50s.

Tuesday Morning Update
Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly...
We saw another rainy overnight but temperatures have improved. Temperatures this morning are a wide variety ranging form the mid 30's to Lower 50's . We will continue to see the scattered showers through the day but Southerly winds for the southern part of the Big Country will keep temperatures warming gradually. Our Western and Northern counties will see the coolest reading with highs only topping off around 50 with others getting temperatures in the upper 50's to low 60's.
Through the day the heaviest activity will occur in our Western and Northwestern counties. Disturbances continue to pass around the upper level low sitting in Arizona that has begun its trek northwest. This afternoon the winds will switch as another cold front makes its pass brining again another layer of cold shallow air at the surface. Temperatures will gradually decrease in the early evening and overnight.
Overnight we will see rain showers for most of the Big Country with temperatures in the mid to upper 30's. If we see any frozen precip it will occur in our western and northwestern counties where temperatures could drop to freezing.
Tomorrow we will again see some showers and cloud cover with the activity decreasing for the rest of the week.
Highs will reach into the mid 50's with lows in the mid 30's.

Monday Evening Update

We started off with cold temperatures across the area this morning. In fact much of the viewing area was in the low 30s. There was some freezing rain and freezing drizzle during the morning hours, but that changed to just rain and drizzle as temperatures got above freezing this afternoon.
The main story tonight through mid-morning tomorrow will be fog. In fact, most of the viewing area (with the exception of Stonewall, Scurry and Mitchell counties) is under a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. This means that visibilities will be a quarter of a mile or less. Please take your time getting to your destination, use your low beam headlights and give yourself plenty of distance between you and the driver in front of you.
There is still a possibility of freezing rain and freezing drizzle across the northern portions of the viewing area overnight. Stonewall county is under a Freezing Rain Advisory until 6 a.m. This could cause some travel difficulties. Roads may be slippery so be careful.
Most of us will see temperatures in the mid 30s to mid 40s for lows tonight. There is a 60% chance of showers due to an upper level trough to our west moving closer to the area.
An upper level low in the center of the trough is expected to move further eastward and closer to us tomorrow. Showers and possibly a few thunderstorms are likely on Tuesday. The chance for rain is 60%. Highs look to be in the mid 40s to low 50s.

The computer models have been back and forth on our frozen precipitation possibilities Tuesday night into Wednesday so things could change from what you are reading right now. This is a situation we are keeping a close eye on so stay tuned for the latest weather information.
For now, it looks like we will have dry conditions Thursday through next Monday. Highs are expected to be in the upper 40s to low 50s with lows in the 30s. However, there are some indications according to the latest computer models of freezing temperatures and precipitation late Friday into early Saturday. This is something that has just popped up in the latest computer model run so stay tuned. We may be adding the possibility of wintry precipitation in the forecast for Friday and Saturday as soon as tomorrow.

A Chilly Morning

It has been a cold and dreary weekend as fog and drizzle has blanketed the Big Country. Some of this activity has turned to freezing as temperature hover around the 32 mark. Right now most counties remain under a Freezing Rain Advisory in effect until noon today. Knox is the only county under an Ice Storm warning.
Warm moist air continues to override a shallow cold airmass at the surface because of this we will continue to see mist and showers across the area. This activity is mainly in the form a light freezing rain, mist and fog this morning. As temperatures warm we will continue to see activity but should change to rain after noon. Temperatures through the day should warm to the mid 30's. This evening we will again drop down to right at freezing and once again there will be the chance to see the frozen precipitation.
Tomorrow temperatures should begin to warm so we should see just rain throughout the area. Tomorrow night another shot of cold air will filter into the Big Country. Depending on how cold we can get the layers there will be the chance to see a wintry mix of precip from Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Wednesday afternoon through the weekend we should begin to clear the clouds and see a gradual warm up in our highs getting eventually into the low 50’s.
Be careful on the roadways, especially bridges and overpasses or any elevated surface.
