We saw the warm temperatures return to the Big Country this weekend with highs hitting the 80 mark yesterday.
This morning we are dealing with some morning fog across the area mainly in our Southern and Eastern counties. If the fog is in your area allow a few extra minutes as some areas are seeing reduced visibilities of less than a mile. The fog will burn off my late morning giving away to plenty of sunshine. Highs will make it into the lower 80's knocking on the door of our record high of 85. Although we should not hit the record we will be coming close. Overnight we will see a few clouds with mid 50's for lows. With High pressure in store through tomorrow we will again see sunshine with a few scattered clouds and very similar temperatures to today.
Wednesday is when the big change comes for the week. A strong artic front makes shove through Texas arriving in our area around sunrise. This front is packing quit a punch and will drop our temperatures significantly. Highs will be in the 50's with lows dropping to around 30. These temperatures will stay around through our Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Come the weekend we have a chance to precipitation, because of the temperatures we could see the possibility of a wintry mix. We will be keeping a close eye on this situation.

Sunday Evening Update

We will start off the week with very warm and dry conditions persisting across the Big Country. Afternoon highs will remain in the low to mid 80's areawide through Tuesday before a major cool down takes place on Tuesday night. A cold front will dive south across the plains into west central Texas and highs from Wednesday through the end of the week will fall into the 50's.
Although there will be little chance of any rain with the front, save for possibly the southeastern Big Country, an areawide freeze is expected on Thursday night and some locations will fall below freezing as early as Wednesday night. In Abilene, a freeze will be possible both Wednesday and Thursday night but locations to the south of I-20 will likely only see a freeze on Thursday night except in low-lying areas.
Next weekend, chances for rain will enter into the forecast as an upper level low is progged to move out from northern Mexico. Computer models continue to show precipitation breaking out across mainly the southern half of the Big Country next Saturday and into Sunday.

Saturday Evening Update

A few showers did manage to develop in our southeastern counties this afternoon from near Brownwood over to Comanche. These showers will begin to taper off as we approach sunset and no additional development is expected.
The upper level trough responsible for the showers in Brown and Comanche counties today will move to the east tomorrow and take all of the chances of rain with it. For the next few days, a warming trend will take place and afternoon highs will rise up into the low to mid 80's by Tuesday.
Late Tuesday night, however, a strong cold front will pass through the area and this front will usher in the coolest air of this season. Highs will fall dramatically from the 80's on Tuesday to the mid-50's on Wednesday. The biggest impact will be on our overnight lows however. Wednesday night, many locations, especially in the northern Big Country will experience temperatures below the freezing mark for the first time this year. Thursday night, a widespread freeze is expected across the area from north to south.
On Saturday and into next weekend, we might see another slight chance of rain develop as a trough moves in out of northern Mexico.
Keep in mind that temperatures are expected to fall below freezing on Thursday night and possibly on Wednesday night as well, so be sure to protect plants and outside faucets.

Friday Evening Update

We started off cool early this morning with temperatures in the upper 30s to mid 40s, but by this afternoon we had warmed up into the low to mid 70s. Skies were mostly to partly cloudy thanks to an upper level low that is currently around west Texas and northern Mexico.
We have a slight chance of rain this weekend thanks to the upper level low moving across the southern portion of the Lone Star State. It looks like the best shot at seeing some showers will be in the southern part of the viewing area. More moisture should have returned to that area versus the rest of the Big Country. Highs this weekend are expected to be in the mid to upper 70s.
Monday and Tuesday will be dry with warm above average temperatures. Highs should be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Windy conditions are expected to return on Tuesday.
It will remain windy on Wednesday with the arrival of a strong cold front. This front looks to move through the area during the morning hours. Highs should be in the mid to upper 50s, but that will likely be in the morning with temperatures dropping through the day. There is a slight chance of rain for the middle of the week too.
We will continue a slight chance of precipitation for Thanksgiving. The reason it is only a slight chance is due to the possibility of a lack of moisture. It is expected to be a cold Turkey Day with temperatures starting off in the upper 20s to low 30s in the morning. Highs should be in the mid to upper 40s in the afternoon.
The cold air lingers into next Friday, the big shopping day, with highs in the mid 40s to 50. You will want to dress in layers with coats as you are going out for those early morning deals. Temperatures to start off the day will be in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Thursday Evening Update

It was a cool day across the Big Country thanks to the cold front that passed by us yesterday. Light winds from the north also helped us have below average temperatures today. Lows this morning were in the mid to upper 30s while highs were in the upper 50s to mid 60s this afternoon.
Another chilly night is expected tonight with lows in the upper 30s to around 40. Winds from the south-southeast should increase from 5 to 15 mph throughout the night. This and the partly cloudy skies are what will keep us from seeing freezing temperatures. If the winds do not pick up and they remain light overnight and the clouds don't hang around, then we could see even colder temperatures especially in low-lying areas.
Warmer temperatures look to be with us Friday through Tuesday. Highs should be in the low to mid 70s for the end of this work week through Monday. The weather is looking great for football games here in the Big Country Friday night and for the ACU game on Saturday. By Tuesday, highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Windy conditions are expected Friday, Monday and Tuesday. There is a slight chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday due to an upper level disturbance moving across the state. The south and southeastern portions of the viewing area have the best shot at seeing rain.

A Cold Thursday Morning
Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly
We saw a very cool day to mark the half way point in the week. A cold front made its way through in the morning hitting our northern counties by 7 am and making it all the way through by 1pm. It brought with us some windy conditions with gusts over 30 mph. The winds have calmed down and the skies have cleared which has made temperatures plummet to the upper 30's to low 40's. On your way out the door grab the jacket and you may even want to get some gloves because the steering wheel is going to be cold.
Today we will continue to see North/Northeast winds because of a High pressure sitting over the Panhandle. The cooler air will stick around keeping our highs below average around 60. We will see plenty of sunshine with just a few clouds. Overnight will be another chillier one as temperatures drop to around 40.
We will start the weekend on a warming trend as High pressure slides off to the east and switches our winds back out of the South. Temperatures will gradually get back to the low to mid 70's. Overnight lows in the lower 50's.
This weekend the low pressure system that has been spinning off the Baja Peninsula will finally make its move eastward. It has slowed down quit a bit and now looks like it will bring rain on Sunday. The bulk of the activity looks like it will stay in the Hill Country and along the coast but it could push into our Southern and Eastern counties.
Next week we will start off quiet then another front may arrive just in time for Holiday travel. This system is bringing cooler weather once again. For right now Highs will drop to the upper 50's to low 60's, lows in the 30's.

Fall Is Back...But Only For A Short Stay

A cold front moved through the Big Country today. We ended up with a wide range of high temperatures across the area because of the timing of the front. Highs were in the low to mid 60s in the northern communites while our southern communites were able to reach the low 80s. Winds were strong from the north-northwest with gusts as high as 30 to 35 mph.
It looks like a cold night tonight with lows in the mid to upper 30s. The winds should be just strong enough to keep us from seeing a widespread freeze or frost overnight. I wouldn't be surprised if a few locations such as Knox and Stonewall counties get down to freezing. If you have any sensitive plants, you may want to bring them in or protect them just in case. Our winds will be lightest just before sunrise tomorrow and that is when we typically have our coldest temperatures.
Cool temperatures will stick around tomorrow with highs in the low to mid 60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds are expected to be light out from the northeast for much of the day, but should shift southeast by late in the afternoon.
Above average temperatures should return Friday and hang around through Tuesday. Highs look to be in the low to mid 70s during that time period. There is a slight chance of rain Saturday night into Sunday with an upper level disturbance moving across the region.

Cold Air Arrives

The clouds held strong yesterday morning but as they broke temperatures climbed quickly back to the upper 70's to low 80's. Overnight we have stayed very mild with most of us sitting in the low 60's.
This morning we will start off with plenty of sunshine but a front to our north is rapidly moving south at 35 mph. This means it should begin to hit our Northern counties in the early morning making its way through Abilene between 10-11 am and be all the way pushed through by 1pm. This storm is packing wind gusts over 30 mph so as it passes by we will see windy conditions. Ahead of the front we should warm temperatures in the low 70's for our central and southern counties with our Northern counties only hitting the upper 60's. If you have not found that winter coat you may want to start searching today as temperatures tomorrow morning will drop. We should see temperatures in the upper 30's to low 40's.
Tomorrow will be a fall like afternoon as highs finally stay in the 60's across the board. Our average for this time of year is 66 so we will finally be at or even below seasonal norms.
As we start the weekend we will begin a gradual warm up with highs in the upper 60's Friday and into the weekend in the lower 70's. Lows will warm up to around 50. Tuesday Night Update

We started off today with mostly cloudy skies, but ended up with partly cloudy skies by this afternoon. Despite the abundance of cloud cover this morning, we still managed to reach the upper 70s to low 80s for highs.
A cold front is still expected to arrive tomorrow. Unfortunately, it will likely be another dry frontal passage. Windy conditions should be with us tomorrow with north-northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph. Highs look to be in the low to mid 70s.
Thursday will be the coolest day of the week. We should start off the morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. Highs in the afternoon look to reach the low to mid 60s. With windy conditions and low relative humidity values likely for Wednesday and Thursday, we have an elevated fire danger so please do not do any outdoor burning on those days.
We could see some rain on Friday thanks to an upper level disturbance. The chance of showers is only slight though due to a lack of moisture. It is the eastern portions of the viewing area that have the best shot at seeing precipitation. This is where enough moisture may have returned to the region for rain. Highs should be in the mid to upper 60s.

A weak cold front moved through Abilene around 10 pm last night helping to switch our winds out of the north, this has brought in some cooler air overnight. Temperatures this morning are ranging from low 50's to 60's in our Southern counties where the front has not made its push.
Today we will see temperatures warm up quickly as we have drier air in place as the front helped to drop our dew points back to the 40's. With plenty of sunshine we should see temperatures in the upper 70's to low 80's. One factor in how warm we will get is when the winds switch from the northwest back to the southwest. The front sitting over us should eventually wash out and leave us with a fairly mild night with winds out of the southwest keeping lows in the upper 50's.
Tomorrow our next front will arrive. This front has a punch to it and should bring in significantly cooler air to the Big Country. The exact timing will depend on how cold we will get overnight but right now lows will drop to the upper 30's to low 40's. Monday Afternoon Update

We started off the new work week with warm above-average temperatures. Our lows this morning were in the mid 50s to mid 60s with highs this afternoon in the upper 70s to low 80s. We should be having lows in the low 40s and highs in the mid 60s in the middle of November.
It looks like we will have cool, but above average temperatures tonight. Lows should be in the mid 50s to 60. Patchy fog is possible overnight into tomorrow morning so there will be some reduced visibilites. Be sure to give yourself some extra time for your travel to school and work.
The unseasonably warm conditions will continue tomorrow. In fact, we should be close to breaking the record high of 85 at Abilene Regional Airport. Highs for Tuesday look to be in the low 80s. It may be breezy at times with winds up to 15 mph from the southwest.
A cold front is expected to arrive and move through the area on Wednesday. The exact timing of this front will have an effect on our high temperatures. Right now, highs look to be in the mid 70s to low 80s.
Thursday should be the coolest day this week. We will start off with temperatures in the upper 30s in the morning, but only warm up into the low 60s by the afternoon.
An upper level low that is currently stalled around the Baja California region should move across Texas as a disturbance on Friday. This will give us a 20% chance of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms. Highs look to be in the upper 60s.
Saturday should be even warmer with highs in the mid 70s under partly cloudy skies. Another cold front is expected to arrive during the first half of the weekend. It looks to be a dry frontal passage for now.

We say a few light showers overnight mainly from a line east of Haskell to Abilene to Ballinger. These showers continue to push off to the east. Behind it we have seen some cloud cover with the clearing beginning from west to east. Temperatures with the clouds have allowed us to stay very mild for this time of year with temperatures in the mid 60's. The coolest temperatures have been found to the west were we started to see clearing early in the overnight.
For today we could see a few morning light showers mainly in our farther eastern counties- Comanche, Eastland and Stephens. Otherwise we will be starting to see clearing with sunshine towards the afternoon. Highs will reach into the lower 80's upper 70's.
Tonight’s lows will be just around 60.
Tomorrow we will see one more warm one with temperatures hitting the low to mid 80's. Our front on Wednesday will finally knock temperatures back to more average like but will not bring any rain chances. Highs Wednesday through Weekend will be in the upper 60's to low 70's. The next front comes at the beginning of the weekend and there is a slight chance for a shower with this system.

Sunday Evening Update

Temperatures remained a little cooler today than expected as mostly cloudy conditions acted to hold down the temperatures a few degrees. Most locations in the Big Country saw afternoon high's in the 75- 80 degree range. A few isolated showers have also tried to develop in the western Big Country to the west of Roby and it is possible that a few showers could develop mainly to the west of Abilene through tonight.
For tomorrow, there will be a 20% chance of showers & t-storms for mainly the central and eastern Big Country. The best chance for rain will exist from Throckmorton to Eastland and down to Brownwood. Upper level energy from a nearby low pressure area in the upper levels of the atmosphere will continue to stream overhead and we have just enough moisture around to warrant a chance for isolated showers & t-storms.
A series of fronts will move through this week with the first cool down coming on Wednesday although we will still remain above average for this time of year. Another front will approach the area on Friday afternoon and we may have enough moisture for a few showers but for now, only a slight chance of rain is expected.

Unseasonably Warm This Weekend

It has been a pleasant, but warm Friday here in the Big Country. We once again had well above average temperatures for this time of year. Highs were in the low 80s under sunny to mostly sunny skies.
Warm and windy conditions will be with us this Veteran's Day weekend. Highs look to be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Winds will be from the south-southwest at 10 to 30 mph. The strongest winds look to be on Sunday.
A cold front is expected to move through the area late Monday. This will bring cool temperatures to the area with highs in the low to mid 70s. Good moisture should be in place before the front, so there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
That same 30% chance of precipitation will contine into Tuesday. With mostly cloudy skies and cooler air in place, highs are expected to only reach the low to mid 60s.
Wednesday through next Friday look dry and cool with highs in the mid to upper 60s.

We warmed up yesterday to the low 80's thanks to the sunshine and southerly winds. Overnight has been quiet with temperatures on your way out to work in the mid to upper 50's.
The unseasonably warm temperatures will continue through the weekend. We finally have some consistency this week as a ridge of high pressure sits over us. A few clouds will make there way in along with the winds kicking up with a system out to our west this weekend.
The next system to affect us will approach from the Pacific Northwest. A cold front is making its way on shore and will arrive in our area sometime the beginning of the week. Right now it looks like the coolest air will arrive Tuesday. Along with the front we will have an upper level low to help with the rain chances. The best timing for rain right now will be on Tuesday however I am keeping rain chances in through the Wednesday morning.
Temperatures will be in the low 80's this weekend dropping to the mid 60's by next Tuesday. Lows will go from the low 60's to upper 40's.

We had a warm and plesant day here in the Big Country today. Highs were mainly in the low to mid 80s, but a few locations were even warmer. Snyder made it to 90 this afternoon. These temperatures are well above average for this time of year. It was a bit breezy today with winds from the south-southwest.
Tomorrow should be another warm and beautiful day. Winds will be light from the south-southwest. Highs are expected to reach the upper 70s to low 80s. If you are going to be heading out to a football game tomorrow night, it will be a bit mild at kickoff with temperatures in the low to mid 70s. By the end of the game, temperatures should have cooled off into the low to mid 60s.
Warm conditions look to continue through this weekend. Saturday will be breezy, while Sunday, Veteran's Day, should be windy. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 80s.

Our warming trend began yesterday as our high temperature toped off at 70. This week has been a rollercoaster ride of temperatures from 90 Monday, 60 Tuesday, to 70 Yesterday. It looks like today we will hit right around 80.
With High pressure sliding off to the east, our winds will continue out of the south. This is bringing in warmer and moister air. In the upper levels a ridge is building over us and will stick around through the weekend. This means we will see plenty of sunshine, and gradually warming temperatures. Through the weekend we will see temperatures in the lower 80's with lows in the mid 50's. Our winds will begin to kick up with our next system approaching. This system along with a cold front will bring back our next chance of rain. We have not seen rain since the 22nd of October and could a fresh dose to help with the elevated fire danger. The best chance of rain comes Monday and continues into Tuesday. Along with the rain we will see temperatures cool back down to low 70's and upper 60's.

If you are wondering about weather conditions for football games Friday night, it will be another beautiful night with temperatures cooling down from the 70s around kickoff to the 60s by the end of the 4th quarter.

The cloud cover held strong yesterday keeping our high 30 degrees cooler than Monday. Overnight temperatures have dropped but not as significantly because of the clouds acting as a dome keeping us a little warmer. Temperatures this morning are mainly staying in the upper 40's to low 50's. It will still be a little chilly as you head out the door so grab that jacket!
For today the clouds will finally begin to break through the morning and we should see more sunshine than yesterday which will allow our temperatures to rise into the mid to upper 60's. The areas that see the most sunshine will be warmer but where the clouds can hold strong we will see tad cooler temperatures. As high pressure continues to slide east the winds are already switching back to the southeast and eventually more south/southwest, this will help to bring in some warmer air. Overnight lows will hit in the lower 50's.
The warm up continues over the next several days and highs get into the lower 80's by the weekend. An upper level low will push near us during the weekend which will kick up the winds and help to move out next front through by beginning of the work week. This next front may bring with it some showers however the chance right now is only at slight.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday we had record heat. Today it was 30 degrees cooler with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s.
We look to have a cold night with lows in the mid to upper 30s. It is possible to see some patchy frost tonight so you will want to bring in your sensitive outdoor plants. Also, bring in your pets since it will be cold.
A warming trend begins tomorrow and continues through the end of the week. Highs look to range from the upper 60s tomorrow to the low 80s this weekend. Windy conditions are likely Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

From short sleeves to sweaters, that will be the story over the last 24 hours. We set a record high yesterday hitting 90 degrees. Then the Canadian cold front came through and changed everything, brining drier and much cooler air to the Big Country. Temperatures are starting off 15- 20 degrees cooler with most of us mainly in the 40's. Factor in the winds and it will certainly feel cooler as you open the door. If you are heading out early to the polls make sure you grab the jacket.
Remember that record we set yesterday? Well it will only be a memory by this afternoon as highs will be considerably cooler only topping off in the upper 50's to low 60's. We should see the clouds that have been hanging around begin to diminish and the sun peaking through by the afternoon. Our winds will stay out of the Northeast helping to keep the cooler air trickling in. Tonight we could see the coldest temperatures of our fall season if we can drop below the 39 we hit on October 28th. One thing will be for sure, it will be very chilly when you head out to work on Wednesday Morning so bring out the jackets and maybe even the gloves for the kiddos as they head to school.
The rest of the week the high pressure that will keep us cool today will slide off to the east helping to switch the winds to the southeast helping us to gradually warm up. Tomorrows highs will stay in the mid 60's increasing to the mid to upper 70's through the holiday weekend. Overnight lows will warm back up to the low 50's.

A pre-frontal trough and cold front are moving through the area right now. No rain is expected though. We just don't have enough moisture to support precipitaiton.
Tomorrow will be much cooler than today. Highs should only reach the mid to upper 50s. That is about 25 to 35 degrees cooler than what we experienced in the area today. Temperatures tomorrow night look to be the coldest of the week. Lows look to be in the mid to upper 30s. Patchy frost is possible across the region so you should make preparations now for your pets and sensitive outdoor plants.

Monday Update
Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly...
We saw a warm day yesterday with temperatures reaching the lower 80's, almost a ten degree warm up from Saturday.
Monday morning is starting off with warm temperatures in the upper 50's to low 60's thanks to the winds kicking up out of the south/southwest with gusts up to 25 mph. We will again see another warm one on store as temperature rise to the low to mid 80's. This afternoon our next front will arrive and ahead of it we will see the warm up but behind it much cooler temperatures arrive. Our winds will switch to the north and should stay strong through the overnight as lows drop to the low 40's.
Tomorrow we will bring back the fall like afternoon with highs only getting into the upper 50's to low 60's. This will be the coldest temperatures we have seen this season if we stay below the 61 we saw on October 22nd. Tuesday night temperatures will drop to the upper 30's and be very chilly Wednesday morning as you head out to work. If you put the gloves back in the drawer you may not to get them out again.
The rest of the week we will gradually warm up with highs back in the mid 70's by Thursday and lows around 50.

Sunday Evening Update

Warm temperatures today will make way for even warmer conditions tomorrow afternoon. However, tomorrow will mark the last day of the warming trend that has been in place over the area for much of last week as a cold front will bring much cooler weather into the Big Country for the beginning of the work week.
The forecast gets a little tricky after the front comes in late Monday night and into Tuesday morning. Temperatures overnight should remain in the lower 40's for Monday night but Tuesday night it is possible that temperatures could dip into the 30's. It will come down to how much cloud cover develops overhead on Tuesday night: if we see mostly cloudy skies, then temperatures will remain around 40; but, if we see clear skies then temperatures could plummet almost to the freezing mark in some low-lying areas. Stay tuned for future updates, as the colder air mass could pose a danger to outdoor pets and vegetation on Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, their will be little chance for rain with the front although it may be possible for some isolated showers to develop in the southeastern Big Country in the vicinity of Brownwood.
Temperatures will rebound during the middle and latter part of this week and we will remain sunny and dry throughout the rest of the seven day forecast.

Somewhat cooler conditions prevailed today in wake of a weak cold front that moved through the area yesterday. Temperatures will be quick to rebound however, as highs tomorrow are expected to be in the upper 70's to near 80. Overnight lows will remain a few degrees above normal over the next couple of days as southerly winds continue to allow more moisture to stream northward.
The warmer weather will be short lived as another cold front will bring temperatures back into the lower 60's for mid-week.
After the front passes through on Tuesday, a slight chance of showers will be inserted into the forecast as moist air will begin to move over the cooler air at the surface.
For late week, temperatures will rebound a little as we head into the weekend with sunny and dry conditions continuing into Saturday and Sunday.

We have had a pleasant Friday here in the Big Country with highs in the mid to upper 70s under mostly skies. It will be a great night for football across the entire area as temperatures cool down into the mid to upper 60s by kickoff.
A cold front looks to arrive overnight tonight. This will bring us much cooler temperatures for Saturday. Highs should be in the mid to upper 60s under mostly to partly cloudy skies. There is a slight chance, and I stress the word slight, that we could see some showers tomorrow. It will not be a complete washout tomorrow so if you have any outdoor activities, you will likely be fine.
We warm right back up on Sunday and Monday as highs should reach the upper 70s to low 80s.
Another cold front is expected to arrive Monday night into early Tuesday. This will cool our temperatures down dramatically for Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs should be in the low to mid 60s. There is a slight chance for rain with the front Monday night and Tuesday.

With one cold front moving through Wednesday temperatures stayed 11 degrees cooler then the day before, Halloween we made it up to 75 where as we kicked off November only hitting 64 degrees. Overnight we have cooled down with lows in the 40's and wind chills in the 30’s. It is a morning for the jacket and a warm breakfast. Although it may be a cool start to the weekend by the afternoon the highs will return to the low 70's. If you are heading out to the football games you may want to keep the blanket on hand as temperatures by the end of the game may dip into the low to mid 50's.
Tonight into early tomorrow a weak front should move through the area. This front will basically wash out over us and only bring with it a few degree drop in temperatures for Saturday. Behind the front High pressure will slide south. By Sunday it should be to the located in Southeast Texas which will mean southerly and southwesterly winds for us helping to warm temperatures into the upper 70's.

We got off to a cool start for the start of November today. Thanks to the cold front that moved through the area yesterday and light northerly winds all day, most of us only managed to make it into the low to mid 60s for highs. A few locations in the Big Country, such as Brownwood, made it to 70.
It looks like a pleasant end to the work week with warmer temperatures returning to the region. Highs should be in the low to mid 70s. It will be another great night for football tomorrow night. If you are heading out to the big Crosstown Showdown between Abilene High and Cooper High, you might want to take a jacket or wear some long sleeves as temperatures will cool down from the 60s at kickoff to the 50s by the end of the game.
A weak cold front is expected to move through the Big Country by early Saturday morning. This means it will be slightly cooler for the first half of the weekend. Highs should be in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Mostly sunny skies and above average temperatures will be with us Sunday and Monday. Highs will likely be in the mid 70s to low 80s.

We had perfect weather yesterday for our monsters and princesses. A cold front made its way through the area helping to keep highs only in the mid 70's. With cool air surging into the Big Country overnight lows have dropped into the 40's.
This morning some clouds are blanketing the sky but should break up through the early hours and by the afternoon just be left with a few clouds. Highs will stay cooler only reaching the mid 60's, a ten degree drop from yesterday. Again tonight our lows will drop reaching the coolest temperatures we have seen since Sunday.
The weekend will start off perfect with plenty of sunshine and temperatures back into the low 70's. High pressure will be dominating through the next several days with Highs gradually warming a few degrees each day until another change comes by the beginning of the work week. Our next front arrives Monday knocking temperatures again to the low 60's and will stay there through mid week. Lows will stay in the lower 40's.

Halloween Afternoon Update

Happy Halloween everyone! It looks like it will be a treat for us this evening as it should be cool and pleasant. You may want to think about wearing a jacket or long sleeves with your costume when you go to your Halloween activities tonight. A cold front passed through the area this afternoon, but we did not see any rain with it. Highs were mainly in the low to mid 70s, but Brownwood managed to make 80. Winds were breezy from the north.
Tomorrow will be much cooler than today with highs only reaching the low to mid 60s. There have been some clouds behind the front, so with it stalling in south Texas I think we will see partly cloudy skies for Thursday.
A warm-up is expected Friday through Monday. Highs should warm from the low 70s at the end of this work week to the upper 70s by the start of next week. Don't forget that this is the weekend we set our clocks back one hour. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m., so be sure you set your clocks when you go to bed Saturday night.

No spooky weather to start of our Halloween day. Temperatures are fairly mild in the 50's with clear skies but some gusty winds. We finally saw a small amount of clouds yesterday and we have the possibility to see just a few clouds by the afternoon. Tuesday Evening Update

After another warm day here in west central Texas, temperatures will once again cool off into the upper 40's area wide. For Halloween, expect one more day of above average high temperatures before a cool front arrives on Thursday morning. The front will cool off afternoon high temperatures about 10 - 12 degrees on Thursday but it will not bring with it any chances for rain. Keep in mind that because we have been so dry, we may be dealing with an increased fire danger over the next week or so until we receive some beneficial rainfall.
As you head out to do some trick-or-treating tomorrow night, temperatures will be in the upper 60's around sunset and will fall off to the upper 50's by midnight.
After the cool front passes through on early Thursday morning, we will warm up into the weekend before cooling off once again as we head into early next week as another cool front takes aim at the Big Country.

By thursday, an upper level storm system will move into the central plains and a surface front will sag southward into west central Texas bringing cooler weather for late week. This cooler air will be reinforced on Saturday morning by yet another cold front which may be able to cause a few showers to develop across the area. Right now, chances are slim but if we get a little more moisture to move into the area by the weekend, then there could certainly be at least a few showers.

This week we are going to see plenty of sunshine with high pressure dominating. With high pressure we see sinking air which eliminates clouds cover. Temperatures today should get into the mid 70’s. Overnight we will get chilly but a little warmer than the previous nights with lows in the upper 40’s.
We will stay on a gradual warming trend through Wednesday with highs topping out at 80. That night our first will move through dropping highs around 10 degrees for Thursday. Our next front will come through Friday night into Saturday and bring a bigger cool down and out first chance for rain. High for the weekend will be in the mid 60's with lows in the lower 40's.

For the next seven days, those of us in west central Texas will experience what I like to call "copy-machine weather". That is to say, if you were to place today's weather in a copy machine and duplicate it a few times, then you would have a pretty good idea what the weather will be like over the next few days.
Temperatures will warm up a little bit over the next couple of days only to cool off again on Thursday as another cold front will move through the area. This front will also be dry as we remain moisture starved at the surface so no real chances for rain with the frontal passage on Thursday.
For the end of next week, below normal temperatures will prevail into early next weekend as a cooler, drier air mass filters in behind the front.

Cooler This Weekend
From Chief Meteorologist Brandon Rector...
After a cold start this morning, we warmed up nicely this afternoon. Highs were in the mid to upper 70s. That is a little above average for this time of year.
Cooler temperatures are expected this weekend thanks to a weak cold front that will move through the area early tomorrow. We won't see any rain with this lifiting mechanism due to the dry air that is in place. This front will shift our winds from the southeast to the northeast though. Highs should be in the low 70s Saturday and the upper 60s on Sunday.
We will gradually warm up through the first half of next week with highs in the low to mid 70s. Monday through Wednesday, Halloween, are also looking dry.
Another weak cold front should move through the region on Thursday. This is expected to be another dry frontal passage. Highs should cool back down into the low 70s.

Cooler temperatures are expected this weekend thanks to a weak cold front that will move through the area early tomorrow. We won't see any rain with this lifiting mechanism due to the dry air that is in place. This front will shift our winds from the southeast to the northeast though. Highs should be in the low 70s Saturday and the upper 60s on Sunday.
We will gradually warm up through the first half of next week with highs in the low to mid 70s. Monday through Wednesday, Halloween, are also looking dry.
Another weak cold front should move through the region on Thursday. This is expected to be another dry frontal passage. Highs should cool back down into the low 70s.

A little cooler air helped to keep highs just around 70 yesterday but the sun was bright with very dry air helping to almost eliminate any cloud cover.
The clear skies and light winds have dropped the temperatures with most of us starting in the 40’s a few even dipping into the 30’s, because of the cool temperatures we have a frost advisory in effect till 9am for our Southern and Eastern counties. As we see the heating of the day temperatures will warm by noon to the mid 60's and by the afternoon into the mid 70's. Winds will be out of the south/southeast today which may help to see a small amount of moisture return but not enough to make an impact in the weather. Heading out to the football games? Throw the jacket and blanket into the car, by the time we see the forth quarter roll around temperatures will be in the low 50's so it will be brisk sitting in the stands.
This weekend we will continue to see dry upper level air push in from the north. A week shot of cooler air will filter in to the Big Country but shouldn't make to much of a difference in our temperatures. Highs for Sunday will rise to the upper 60's, from the mid 70's Saturday.
Next week our pattern is staying quiet with a high plopped over us. Temperatures will be in the lower 70's with lows in the mid 40's.

Thursday Afternoon Update

The plesant conditions continued for us today. In fact, we were a little cooler this afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. It was a little breezy with winds from the north-northwest.
With light to calm winds, clear skies, and a dry airmass expected to be in place tonight, there is a potential for frost in the viewing area tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for Knox, Stephens, Eastland, Comanche, Brown, Coleman and Runnels counties from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday morning. Everyone in the viewing area, especially those in low-lying areas, should protect their plants tonight. If you don't cover your sensitive outdoor plants, they could be killed. With cold temperatures expected tonight, you will probably want to bring in your pets too. Lows look to be in the mid to upper 30s.

Wednesday Afternoon Update

Overall, it was a pleasant day in the Big Country with mild temperatures and comfortable conditions. The only thing keeping it from being perfect was the wind. Strong north winds were felt throughout the day with gusts as high as 25 to 30 mph. Highs were in the mid to upper 70s.
An upper level low that has sat over Mississippi today is expected to move northwest into Arkansas tomorrow. While this won't bring us any rain, we should see slightly cooler temperatures and few clouds on Thursday. Highs in the afternoon will be in the low to mid 70s after morning lows in the low to mid 40s.
Friday looks to be beautiful so we should have great weather for all the Friday night football games in the area. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s.

Yesterday we started off with the coldest temperatures of the season but the afternoon warmed up nicely hitting just around 70. This morning temperatures are starting in the upper 40's to low 50's however compared to the 30's yesterday its a warm up. On your way out you still will want to have something to cover your arms- jacket, sweatshirt or sweater.
Today temperatures will finally hit around average by the afternoon with highs in the mid 70's. The upper level low that cut off over the Arklatex region will bring rainfall to the southeast but for us will just mean a sunny sky with dry northerly winds. Tonight we will again drop to the mid 40's.
The next seven days look to stay fairly quiet. We will see a mostly sunny sky and temperatures in the lower 70's with lows in the upper 40's. This weekend we may see a little bit a cooler air pushed into the Big Country but that may only drop highs to the upper 60's.

Tuesday Night Update

It was a pleasant day in the Big Country today with sunny skies and highs in the low 70s. Winds were not as strong this afternoon, but it was still breezy from the north-northwest.
The upper level low that was expected to be close to our area over the next couple of days will now be in another part of the country. It looks like the low will hang around Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi tomorrow. From there it should move northwest back across Arkansas and into Missouri Thursday and Friday. This scenario will keep us on the dry side of the low so there are no rain chances in the forecast through the end of the work week. Breezy north-northwest winds are expected again tomorrow. Highs for Wednesday through Friday should be in the low to mid 70s.
Dry conditions look to continue this weekend and early next week as well. Highs will likely remain in the low to mid 70s with lows in the upper 40s to low 50s.

A Cold Tuesday Morning

We had a cool start to our morning yesterday as showers and clouds moved through the Big Country already by early morning clearing was beginning and through the late morning everyone had cleared the showers. Although the sun began to peak through we still stayed chilly with the temperatures climbing to low 60's.
With the winds finally dieing down this morning temperatures are even cooler ranging from the upper 30's to low 40's with clear skies. We will stay chilly through the morning so grab the jacket; you may even need a pair of gloves to keep your hands warm on the cold steering wheel. Through the day today we will see sunshine with a few clouds by the afternoon. Winds are going to continue to filter in from the north bringing reinforcing cooler air, temperatures today will get into the lower 70's. Gusts could be up to 20 mph but not near as strong as the winds we say the over the weekend.
Currently an upper level low is being cut off just around the Arklatex region and this is going to be the main player in our weather over the next few days. Models are have a few scenarios for this system. If we stay on the west side of the system our winds will continue to bring in cooler air out of the north. Along with that on the west side we are in subsidence which is sinking air and will limit rain chances. Models have it moving a little further to the east today and tomorrow then retrograding back to the northwest on Thursday. I think this will be our only shot at rain mainly in our Northern counties as moisture could wrap around the system.
Temperatures will be in the upper 60's Wednesday and Thursday with lows in the mid 40's.
By the weekend the system will be pushed out to east and we will see temperatures around 70 with lows in the upper 40's.

Cool Temperatures Remain

A strong cold front moved through the Big Country last night. It brought us some rain and the coldest temperatuers we have had so far this fall season. Highs were in the upper 50s to low 60s. Windy conditions were also felt across the area today with wind gusts as high as 35 to 40 mph from the north-northwest.
Tonight looks to be the coldest night of the fall season so far with lows in the mid to upper 30s. It will feel even colder than that with winds from the north-northwest at 5 to 15 mph. If you have any pets or sensitive plants, you may want to bring them inside tonight. While I am not expecting a freeze, it will be cold.
Cool temperatures are expected to be with us tomorrow through Thursday due to a cut-off upper level low developing and remaining close to the region. The low will be in the Ark-La-Tex area tomorrow before retrograding. It should be in southern Oklahoma/north Texas Wednesday and early Thursday. There is a slight chance of rain late tomorrow and a 20% chance of showers Wednesday and Thursday. Highs should be in the upper 60s on Tuesday, the low 60s on Wednesday and the mid 60s on Thursday. Lows will be in the low to mid 40s.
The low is expected to move away from the area during the day on Thursday. This will lead to dry conditions for Friday and the weekend. It should be warmer as well with highs in the low 70s.

A sunny weekend blanketed the Big Country with temperatures reaching the upper 80's to low 90's. Big changes came Sunday night.
Around 6 pm last night a cold front began its push through the Big Country. By early this morning it had made its rush through our area bringing cooler temperatures, gusty winds and showers and thunderstorms with it. This morning we will continue to see the showers as they begin to decrease from west to east with temperatures in the mid 40's. On your way out to work you will want to grab the jacket, closed toed shoes and umbrella. As the showers dissipate the clouds will decrease with the sunshine peaking through by the later afternoon, early evening. Strong winds will continue to blow from the North keeping temperatures much cooler with highs toping in the mid to upper 50's.
Tonight the winds will begin to die down and with just a few scattered clouds we are going to see the coolest temperatures since the end of April. If you have not yet found the sweaters in your closet you may want to today as temperatures will get to the upper 30's to low 40's overnight.
The forecast over the next few days will be greatly influenced by a cut off low that is beginning to develop in the southern Rockies. This low could park itself over our area or wander towards the east. One thing is certain, we will see below average temperatures. Right now I am keeping rain in for Wednesday as the low should move closer to our area. Temperatures will stay in the mid 60's for the next couple days increasing to the low 70's by the end of the week as the low pushes off to the northeast.

Sunday afternoon will end up being an almost "carbon-copy" of today as temperatures will once again soar up to around the 90 degree mark with breezy conditions expected. Because the air is very dry, with relative humidities at or below 20%, overnight lows will remain somewhat cool while afternoon highs will be well above normal.
Tomorrow night, a strong cold front will advance into west central Texas and put an end to the warm weather for much of the upcoming week. Temperatures on Monday will end up being more than 20 degrees cooler than on Sunday with an afternoon high of only 67.
Although the front will bring cooler weather, it will not produce much rain in the area, if any. The best chances for rain will be to the east of Abilene overnight Sunday and into early Monday morning.
Keep in mind that overnight lows will fall into the lower 40's on Monday night and will remain at or below 50 degrees for much of the upcoming week, so if you're going out you will want to dress accordingly.

Warm Weekend, But Cool Next Week

We started off today with our coolest morning since April 26. By this afternoon we had warmed up into the low to mid 80s, which is above average for this time of year. Winds were light today, but that will change tomorrow.
High pressure will move to our east while a low pressure trough builds in the Texas panhandle on Saturday. Anytime high pressure and low pressure are close to one another, the pressure gradient tightens and you get windy conditions. Other than the south-southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, the first half of the weekend looks to be pleasant. It will be warm with highs in the mid 80s to 90.
Above average temperatures will be with us as well on Sunday with highs in the mid 80s. Winds are expected to be out of the south-southwest at 20 to 30 mph.
A cold front should move through the area overnight Sunday night into Monday morning. This will give us a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms during that time period. The air behind this front is expected to be the coldest of the fall season so far. Highs for Monday will be in the low to mid 60s.
A cut-off upper level low is expected to build in the central and southern plains Monday and remain stalled through at least the middle of next week. This will keep highs in the mid to upper 60s and lows in the low to mid 40s Tuesday and Wednesday.

A beautiful day yesterday afternoon as temperatures stayed in the lower 80’s with abundant sunshine and low humidity. The winds kicked up a bit gusting over 35 mph with sustained winds over 25mph.
Overnight the winds calmed down and with clear skies temperatures have plummeted to the mid 40’s to low 50’s. You are going to want to put on the closed toed shoes and grab a jacket or sweatshirt on the way out the door. Once the sun rises we should see no problems as temperatures will climb to the lower 80’s. Another chilly night will be on store grab something to cover up for the football games as temperatures by the forth quarter could dip into the upper 50’s.
The weekend looks perfect for ACU and HSU homecomings temperatures will be in the mid 80’s with lows Saturday night in the lower 60’s. The one factor that might be uncomfortable is that the winds will again gust up to 30 mph.
Late Sunday our next front makes it trek through the Big Country. This will bring back the chance for rain Sunday night into Monday, it is also brining below average temperatures. The associated upper level low with system could get stuck in the Mississippi river valley for the beginning of the week. This would mean we would keep temperatures consistent in the upper 60’s to low 70’s and not warm up till the end of the week. We will keep an eye on the models but with this scenario temperatures will be cooler with lows sticking in the mid 40’s.

Thursday Afternoon Update

A cold front moved through the area today, but the colder air won't be felt until tonight. Sustained west-northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph and gusts of 35 to 45 mph are what we have dealt with for much of the day. Dewpoints have dropped into the single digits and teens for most of the Big Country. The exception is out southeastern communites where dewpoints are in the 30s this afternoon. Highs today were mainly in the upper 70s to low 80s. It was in the upper 80s in Brownwood.
Tonight will be the coldest night for our area since April 26th of this year. Lows are expected to be in the low to mid 40s. This means you'll probably want to grab a jacket or sweater on the way out the door to school and work.
Friday should be a pleasant day overall. We will have sunny skies and much lighter winds. Highs look to be in the upper 70s to low 80s.
There are alot of activities going on in the area this weekend. ACU has their big homecoming football game on Saturday. Boo At The Zoo will also be taking place on Saturday, so how is the weather looking? For Saturday, we will have mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 80s. Windy conditions are expected to return though so be aware of that as you are out and about. For Sunday, skies should be partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 80s. Windy conditions will be with us for the second half of the weekend as well. A cold front is expected to move through the area late Sunday into early Monday. There is a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms during that time period.

Get Ready for a Cool Down

The main player yesterday- the winds, sustained winds over 30 mph with gusts here at the Abilene Regional Airport at 43 mph. It was definitely one of the days were you want to be keeping both hands on the wheel.
This morning temperatures are ranging from the upper 50’s to low 60’s a drop from the low 70’s only 24 hrs ago. Winds have died down overnight but expect them to once again be breezy today however gusts should only get up to 30 mph. The bright sunshine will be the dominating factor so make sure you grab your sunglasses as you head out the door. Through the day we will watch a cold front make its pass through the Big Country but the coolest air won’t sift in towards later tonight. Overnight temperatures are going to drop to the chilliest we have seen since April. Turn in those flip flops and bring out the boots overnight lows will dip into the 40’s with clear skies and light winds.
Tomorrow with a little bit of cooler air draped over the area highs should be just around average reaching the upper 70’s. Lows shouldn't drop as cool as we will see Thursday night but for the football game you will still want to grab a jacket or a light blanket.
The weekend looks great with a gradual warm up thanks to winds back out of the south/southeast. Highs will be in the mid 80's for Boo at the Zoo. Saturday breezy conditions return and Sunday our next front arrives. Models seem to be trending to a very cool front, temperatures behind it we could drop with highs for the beginning of the week in the 70's with lows in the mid 40's. Wednesday Evening Update

We didn't end up seeing much in the way of rain today. Showers and thunderstorms moved through portions of Scurry, Stonewall and Knox counties this morning, but that was it. Windy conditions were the main story today. The entire area had sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph. Much drier air moved into the region throughout the day due to the dryline making its way across the viewing area. Highs ranged from the low 80s to low 90s.
A cold front is expected to move through the region tomorrow. This will bring cooler temperatures to the area and reinforce the drier air that is already in place. It is because of the dry air that this will be a dry frontal passage. Highs should be in the upper 70s to low 80s with breezy northwest winds.
Friday looks to start off a bit chilly with temperatures in the low to mid 40s. We will warm up nicely though through the day with highs in the mid 70s to 80.
Breezy coniditons are expected to return on Saturday. Other than that it should be a pleasant day with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 80s.
Another cold front looks to move into the area late Sunday. There will be a chance for rain with this front because moisture should have returned to the area. The chance for showers and thunderstorms is 20%. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 80s with windy conditions.

Wednesday Morning Update

Yesterday morning the clouds held strong keeping it cool through the morning. By noon they began to break however temperatures didn’t hover much above mid 70’s for highs.
Overnight we have stayed fairly calm with an overcast sky and temperatures warmer in the mid 60’s. Showers and storms have began to pop up mainly north of our area however a little rain has fallen in Brown, Coleman and Eastland counties. Temperatures will stick in the mid 60’s with breezy conditions for this morning. We could see some scattered activity through the morning however a dryline will be approaching from the west. As it does our rain chances will end from west to east. As it passes our dew points will quickly dry out making it feel a lot more comfortable but winds will kick up even more gusting close to 35 mph. By later afternoon we should all be in the clear with the sunshine diminishing to a starry night with temperature cooling down to the upper 50’s.
Tomorrow temperatures will be cooler thanks to our next cold front passing through sometime tonight into tomorrow morning. Highs will reach the upper 70’s with lows dropping to the upper 40’s- yes it will be chilly to start off Friday, you will definitely want to bundle up!
The weekend looks great with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid 80’s and lows in the low 60’s.
Sunday into Monday we may see the strongest front of the season push into the Big Country. Dropping highs to the low 70’s and overnight lows in the upper 40’s. With moistures having returned we will keep rain chances for this front at 20%.

Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Possible

We started off this morning with fog and mist across the Big Country. It remained overcast to mostly cloudy throughout the day. This led to cooler than average temperatures for us this afternoon as highs were mainly in the low to mid 70s.
It looks like we have the potential to see strong to severe thunderstorms overnight tonight through tomorrow morning. The main severe threats will be large hail and damaging winds. We will let you know if any severe storms develop so stay tuned. A dryline is expected to set up to our west this evening and move across the Big Country during that time period. We will also have an upper level low pressure trough move close to the area with some disturbances. The chance for rain is 30%. Windy conditions are expected tomorrow with winds from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph and higher gusts. We should also have low relative humidity values so there is an elevated fire danger tomorrow. Please put off any outdoor burning plans you may have had until the weekend or next week. Highs for Wednesday should be in the mid to upper 80s.

A cold front passed through the Big Country yesterday brining alot of rainfall in morning hours to our southern and eastern counties. Behind the front we saw clearing with drier and cooler air filtering into our area. By the afternoon it finally felt like fall with much cooler highs only reaching the mid 70's and hardly a cloud in the sky.
Overnight we have cooled down with temperatures dropping to the low to mid 50's. With the moisture returning fog has developed across the area with reduced visibilities. Be careful if you have to get out early on your morning commute. Once the sun rises the sunshine will quickly burn off the fog by 10 am with plenty of sunshine by noon. Through the afternoon clouds will begin to increase as temperatures reach the lower 80's.
Tonight our next storm system makes a push close to our area brining with it showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday. There is the possibility to see some severe weather with the clashing boundaries of warm moist air, and warm dry air.
After this storm system pushes out we will see plenty of sunshine with another cold front passing through.
Temperatures will remain in the lower 80's with lows in the mid 50's.

Chances For Rain and Two Cold Fronts This Week

A cold front began moving through the area overnight last night and didn't clear the southeastern communites until early afternoon. This lead to cooler temperatures for us. Highs were in the low to mid 70s. There were some showers and thunderstorms that developed along and ahead of the front. They mainly affected the eastern and southeastern portions of the viewing area.
Warmer temperatures look to return tomorrow with highs in the low 80s. Another upper level trough is expected to move close to the area Tuesday night into Wednesday. A dryline may move into our area as well. We have a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorsms during that time period. It is possible that some of the storms we experience may reach severe limits. As always, we will let you know if that happens and keep you updated on the latest. Highs for Wednesday should be in the low to mid 80s.
Another cold front is expected to move across the Big Country late Thursday into Friday. It looks to be a dry frontal passage at this time. Highs for Thursday will be in the mid 80s while on Friday they will be in the upper 70s.

Monday Starting Off Cool

Showers and thunderstorms fired up ahead of a cold front bring alot of activity to our southern and eastern counties. The front was moving around 25 mph and will continue through the morning to bring rainfall from a line south of Ballinger to Coleman to Eastland. As the front passes behind it we are seeing drier and cooler air. Temperatures are ranging from upper 50's behind to low 70's ahead of it. These storms are being fuelled by the warm moist air along with upper level energy. The activity will end from northwest to southeast as we will loose the lifting mechanism and moisture with the continued push of the front. Temperatures by the afternoon will feel alot more like fall only reaching the mid 70's. Grab the jacket if you will be heading out tonight as lows drop into the mid 50's.
Tomorrow we should stay dry with more seasonal temperatures once again in the lower 80's. By tomorrow night into Wednesday another shortwave will pass in our upper levels helping to bring the rain chances back in the forecast. The best precipitation chance will be in our northern counties through the day Wednesday.
Behind this we will keep the forecast dry with another front by Thursday helping to bring back the autumn temperatures for the weekend.

The main concern for the short term forecast will be the chance of severe t-storms during the overnight hours and into Monday morning. The best chance of severe weather will be in the eastern portions of the Big Country. All locations east of a line from Haskell to Abilene to Ballinger will have the best chance at seeing shower and thunderstorm activity overnight.
Thunderstorms will linger into Monday morning across the eastern Big Country and cooler temperatures will move in tomorrow as our afternoon highs will be in the mid 70's.
As we continue on into the middle part of next week, drier air will move in and our overnight lows will fall from the upper 50's to the lower 50's by the end of the week. Two cold fronts will move through the area later this week as well. The first on Tuesday night and the second on Friday. Due to the lack of available moisture, we will only see a slight chance of rain on Wednesday. Temperatures will warm up quite a bit on Thursday before the bigger cool down arrives on Friday.
With the cool front on Friday, moisture will remain too scarce to generate any significant chances of rain so it appears as if this frontal passage will be dry. Cooler temperatures, especially overnight, will be expected for next weekend.

Saturday Afternoon Update

Tonight, more breezy conditions will prevail across the majority of west central Texas as a strong pressure gradient continues to be in place across the state. This pressure gradient has developed in response to an upper level trough of low pressure which is currently diving south into the southern Rockies. This trough will move out onto the plains tomorrow and tomorrow night.
As it does, we will have about a 50-50 shot of precipitation with the best chance coming on Sunday night. Due to the presence of stronger upper level energy with this system, there will be a chance for some of these thunderstorms to become severe on Sunday night and into Monday morning.
Temperatures will go up and down throughout the week as several storm systems will impact the area. Tomorrow we will be above average with highs in the upper 80's but Monday afternoon high temperatures will drop down into the upper 70's.
We'll then warm up during the middle part of the week before cooling off again late next week.
Overnight lows will remain in the upper 50's to lower 60's throughout the upcoming week.

This trough will move out onto the plains tomorrow and tomorrow night.
As it does, we will have about a 50-50 shot of precipitation with the best chance coming on Sunday night. Due to the presence of stronger upper level energy with this system, there will be a chance for some of these thunderstorms to become severe on Sunday night and into Monday morning.
Temperatures will go up and down throughout the week as several storm systems will impact the area. Tomorrow we will be above average with highs in the upper 80's but Monday afternoon high temperatures will drop down into the upper 70's.
We'll then warm up during the middle part of the week before cooling off again late next week.
Overnight lows will remain in the upper 50's to lower 60's throughout the upcoming week.

Friday Afternoon Update

We had warmer and drier coniditons across the Big Country today. Highs were in the mid 80s to 90 with no rain. It was breezy with sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph from the south-southeast.
Windy conditions are expected tomorrow so be aware of that if you are going to be out and about. There are several events happening around Abilene tomorrow including the Memory Walk and the Festival of the Americas. Highs should be in the mid 80s to 90.
An upper level trough is expected to push a dryline through the area on Sunday as well as a cold front on Monday. We will have a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms with the best shot being Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. It is possible for us to see a few isolated severe thunderstorms during this time period. As always, we will keep a close eye on any storms that develop and let you know if any reach severe limits. Highs on Sunday should be in the mid to upper 80s, but on Monday it will be in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Tuesday through next Friday look to be dry for now. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 80s.

Yesterday morning we started to see rainfall developing around 3 am in our Haskell and Throckmorton. These storms were able to stay together pushing all the way through our southern counties as even more developed to the north. With the first storms pushing through we say the moisture increase and with that the next batch brought a good amount of rainfall to the area with a record at the Abilene Regional airport receiving 1.55 inches.
The reason behind these storms is why we will keep in rain chances again for today. With a ridge in the southwest we are staying in north/northwest flow aloft which can push disturbances though. The best chance today I think will be for our western counties. This morning unlike yesterday we are starting off quiet with temperatures in the mid 60’s and we will warm quickly to the mid 80’s by the afternoon. Tonight the winds are going to start kicking up and will be the main player tomorrow.
As a storm system pushes on shore in the Pacific Northwest it will dive down into the four corners region and eventually slide through the central plain. Tomorrow this will creat a tight pressure gradient between the ridge and trough meaning winds could gust to 25-30 mph. As this system nears our area it will also help swing a dryline and cold front through the area bring the rain chances back for Sunday and Monday with the possibility of severe weather.
Temperatures ahead of the front will continue in the mid 80’s with low 80’s behind it.

Thursday Evening Update

We had a bit of a surprise this morning when showers and thunderstorms moved through portions of the viewing area. It looked as though we were going to be too dry here at the surface to support any precipitation, but the combination of southeast winds and heavy rain caused enough moisture to return to the surface level. The lifting mechanism in this siutation was a weak upper level disturbance that moved through the region. We recieved 1.55" at Abilene Regional Airport which is a record rainfall for this date. According to Doppler radar estimates, there was as much as 3 inches of rain in parts of Jones and Shackelford counties. Highs this afternoon were in the low 80s.
We will remain in a north-northwest flow aloft tomorrow. Due to that and the possibility of an upper level disturbance moving through the area, there is a slight chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs should be in the mid to upper 80s.
An upper level trough is still expected to move into the southwest U.S. on Saturday and then the central and southern plains Sunday and Monday. This will help push a dryline and cold front across the Big Country. For now Saturday looks dry, but there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. We had a beautiful day across the area and overnight we have stayed milder than the night before we just a few of us getting into the upper 50's. Showers and thunderstorms pushed into our Northern counties and moved southeast around 15 mph. This caused some moderate to heavy rainfall on the morning commute mainly staying to the east of Abilene with others receiving some light showers.
Today we will return to northwest flow aloft. With a disturbance and more moisture available we will keep in a slight chance for more afternoon showers or thunderstorms. For the rest of us partly sunny skies will persist with temperatures above average in the mid 80's. Overnight lows will stay into the low 60's.
This weekend more rain chances come into play with a strong upper level low pushing through the four corners region. This will bring back the rain chances for later part of the weekend as well as the possibility of a few strong storms. This system should swing our next front through and drop the temperatures back just a bit be the beginning of weekend.

Pleasant conditions continued for the Big Country today. Highs were in the low to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies. Dewpoints were in the 40s and 50s so it felt comfortable.
It looks like we can expect more of the same as we head through the end of the work week. High pressure should remain in control and keep us dry. Highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s tomorrow and Friday. Dewpoints should be up a little bit due to southeast winds bringing a little more moisture back into the region.
An upper level trough will likely move across the central and southern plains late Saturday through Sunday. This will increase our chance for rain beginning Saturday night. That chance is 20%. It is possible that the dryline may setup this weekend and move into the area, so there could be some strong to severe thunderstorms during this time period. Highs should be in the mid 80s.
A cold front is expected to move through the area on Monday. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue for the start of the work week. Highs should be in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Tuesday and next Wednesday look dry for now with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

The cold front brought some relief to the heat yesterday afternoon and it finally felt a little more like fall. This also helped to bring light rain to our far southeastern counties.
Overnight it has cooled down to chilly temperatures in the 50's. You are going to want to grab that jacket on the way out the door this morning. These cooler temperatures won't last long as we will warm up to the lower 80's by the afternoon with picture perfect weather. High pressure will settle in and stick around for the next few days only brining plenty of sunshine, drier air and temperatures in the mid 80's. We will deal with one more overnight with temperatures in the upper 50's then they will return to the lower 60's getting into the weekend.
Our next front will arrive by the beginning of next week and we may actually get our highs in the upper 70's behind this blue norther.

Overnight, cloud cover is blanketing the Big Country with a few showers popping up behind the front. It is continuing its push south and everyone should feel the after affects of the front with temperatures only rising to the lower 80’s this afternoon. Behind the front, skies are clearing and we should see the morning clouds diminish to afternoon sunshine. Have your jackets handy tomorrow morning, with clear skies tonight temperatures will drop into the mid 50’s.
The rest of the week the sun will be the dominating factor with high pressure in store. Temperatures will gradually warm to the mid 80’s and overnight lows back in the low 60’s.
The models for this weekend have a few possible changes in place. The backdoor front on Friday appears to just miss our area with the next front coming toward the end of the weekend. With this scenario, seasonal temperatures and a slight chance of rain returns on Sunday.

Monday Evening Update

We saw a wide range in our temperatures today thanks to a cold front that moved slowly across the area. Highs ranged from the low 80s in Snyder and Sweetwater to the low 90s in Brownwood. We didn't see much rain with the front. A few showers and thunderstorms developed in the southeastern portions of the viewing area late this afternoon and evening.
The next couple of days should be cooler and comfortable. Highs look to be in the low 80s tomorrow and Wednesday. Dewpoints should be in the 50s so it will feel pleasant.
An upper level high pressure ridge is expected to build into the area Thursday and Friday. This will lead to warmer temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 80s.
The ridge should break down this weekend. There is a slight chance of rain for our northern communties Saturday night and Sunday as an upper level low pressure system passes through the central and southern plains. Highs look to be in the mid 80s.

It was a beautiful weekend for a lot of festivities across the Big Country and we will be seeing the same sunshine for most of the week but with one difference- a bit cooler temperatures.
This morning a front is making a punch though the Big Country with showers and thunderstorms popping up ahead of the system. It will continue to push through today and eventually make its way out of the Big Country. Rain chances will end from Northwest to Southeast as drier air gets filtered in. The best chance of activity will be in our eastern and southeastern especially during the overnight. Otherwise today we will see sunshine with scattered clouds and temperatures in the lower 80’s.
For the rest of the week High pressure takes over with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the mid 80’s and lows in the low 60s.
Our next front arrives by the weekend with a slight chance of rain returning to the forecast.

Today was a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday as our high temperatures stayed below the 90 degree mark. Tomorrow morning, a cool front will progress through the area and bring even cooler weather into the Big Country, lowering highs a few more degrees.
A chance of isolated t-storms will accompany the front tomorrow afternoon with the best chance of rain being to the north and east of the city of Abilene. Tomorrow night, rain chances will come to an end and overnight lows will begin to drop off into the lower 60's as humidity levels continue to decrease.
Temperatures will remain somewhat cooler over the next 7 days but afternoon highs will continue to be in the mid 80's, about 4 or 5 degrees above normal for this time of year. Overnight lows will remain closer to normal however, in the upper 50's to lower 60's throughout the upcoming week.
Late next week, another shot of cooler air may move in, but right now it appears as if most of the coolest air will remain to the north. Next weekend, afternoon highs will remain about 5 -7 degrees cooler than they were this weekend though.

Showers and Storms made it into our western and northern counties with the activity all dissipating by midnight. Overnight we have just seen scattered clouds with temperatures cooler then the past few days and also lower dew points so instead of humidity it will feel more comfy.
Through out the day we will see plenty of sunshine with temperatures again dipping into the low 90’s. Winds will kick up with the trough still to our northwest. By the evening we could again see a few showers and storms sparking in our western counties with most of us in the clear for Friday Night Football. Tomorrow a low that will be sliding on the east Texas coast could cause a few showers for our eastern counties. Temperatures will be in the upper 80’s. Late Sunday into Monday a cold front will make it though our area helping to drop the dew point and temperatures. This will bring the rain chances back for mainly overnight Sunday into Monday.
Behind the front temperatures will be in the mid 80’s with lows cooler in the mid 50’s. We will see lots of sunshine during the day and clear skies overnight.

Through out the day we will see plenty of sunshine with temperatures again dipping into the low 90’s. Winds will kick up with the trough still to our northwest. By the evening we could again see a few showers and storms sparking in our western counties with most of us in the clear for Friday Night Football. Tomorrow a low that will be sliding on the east Texas coast could cause a few showers for our eastern counties. Temperatures will be in the upper 80’s. Late Sunday into Monday a cold front will make it though our area helping to drop the dew point and temperatures. This will bring the rain chances back for mainly overnight Sunday into Monday.
Behind the front temperatures will be in the mid 80’s with lows cooler in the mid 50’s. We will see lots of sunshine during the day and clear skies overnight.

Thursday Forecast
Good Morning from Morning Meteorologist Kristen Connolly…
Along the front showers and storms popped up with the heating of the day yesterday. Most of the activity died down once we lose the fuel and overnight has been fairly quiet with lows in the lower 70’s.
Today we will see temperatures more like August then October. Highs will dip into the low 90’s with plenty of sunshine. As high pressure dominates we will see less cloud cover and may even see a little drier air push into the Big Country. With a trough to our northwest winds will kick up and may be a relief from the heat. This high will be the big player for us as we watch a big dip in the jet stream move into the Rockies Friday and drop a front through this weekend. Ahead we will see temperatures in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.
Late Sunday to Monday the front should pass through the Big Country bring a little cool down with temperatures in the lower 80’s and lows just around 60. Behind the front we will mostly sunny skies and mid 80’s return.

Wednesday Afternoon Update
From Meteorologist Nathan Motz.....
A couple of storms did manage to develop yesterday evening across the western portions of the area around Snyder, Roby, Aspermont, and over to the southwest of Haskell. These storms dissipated, however, before they reached Abilene and dry conditions are expected for the rest of tonight and into the weekend.
South of Abilene, t-storms will remain possible through the evening hours and these storms should dissipate around sunset. Overnight lows areawide will remain in the mid 60's to near 70.
Warm and dry conditions will prevail from now until late in the weekend and early next week when a cool front will make its way into northern Texas. As it approachs the Big Country, we will begin to pick up a slight chance of rain on Sunday and somewhat cooler air will begin to filter into the area on Monday and Tuesday. Unfortunately, it does appear like the bulk of the cooler air mass will remain well to the north and east.
