Major Winter Storm To Impact The Big Country:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Running a little behind this morning due to a tricky forecast so I will let the National Weather Service Winter Storm Watch text cover the weather blog discussion this morning. Major winter storm will affect West Central Texas late tonight and on Tuesday. We're expecting wintry precipitation and extremely cold temperatures across the area. As for today we'll see a mostly cloudy sky and warm with highs in the middle and upper 60s. Stay tuned for weather updates.

* Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Tuesday morning for the Big Country. Impacts: Ice and snow accumulations will produce slick and hazardous roads, bridges and overpasses including Interstate 20. Also strong north winds will produce bitter cold wind chills in the zero to 5 below range. Timing: Snow, sleet and some freezing rain are expected to develop after midnight. Most of the heavy snow potential will end around sunrise Tuesday morning mainly light snow and blowing snow is expected. Accumulations: Ice accumulation of around 1/10 of an inch is possible along with 2 to 5 inches of snow. Winds/Visibility: North winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph are expected. snow and blowing snow will reduce visibilities to possibly below 1/4 mile. A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
