Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

*** Red Flag Warning in effect this afternoon for all of West Central Texas. Cricital wildfire weather conditions are expected this afternoon. ***

* Not so cold this morning as compared to Thursday morning across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Temperatures this morning in the 40s and lower 50s. Mostly sunny, turning windy and warmer today with highs in the lower to middle 80s. Mostly clear, breezy and mild tonight with lows into the upper 40s and lower 50s.

* Weekend: Partly cloudy on Saturday with highs in the upper 70s and lows Saturday night into the mid 40s. Partly cloudy on Sunday with highs in the lower 70s. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers on Sunday night with lows around 50.

* Next Week: A slight chance of showers early on Monday, otherwise partly cloudy with highs in the low 70s. Partly cloudy with highs in the lower 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will hold into the lower 50s.

* Wildfire Threat: Critical fire weather conditions are expected on Friday with south to southwest 20 foot winds near 20 mph and relative humidities of 10 to 15 percent. These conditions will improve by 7 pm. Fire weather concerns will diminish over the weekend as light winds are expected across the area. The next concern for elevated fire weather conditions will be toward the middle of next week as south winds increase and temperatures warm near the 80 degree mark.

* Time Change: Standard Time will end Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 AM and at that time we will "spring forward" an hour. Remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed this Saturday night or turn them up when you wake up on Sunday morning. In case you're wondering we will get that hour back we're losing when the time changes again on Sunday, November 6, 2011. While you are changing the clock don't forget to take a minute to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It's also a good idea to check the batteries in your weather radio as well.

* Quiet weather in place to end the week across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Ample sunshine today and a little warmer with highs in the lower 70s. Clear and not as cold with lows into the lower 40s. On Friday we'll be sunny but turning windy with highs up to around 80. A cold front will move across the region late Friday night and early Saturday. Lows Friday night will be into the mid 40s.

* Weekend: Mostly sunny on Saturday and a little cooler with highs in the lower to middle 70s. Partly cloudy and mild with lows into the middle 40s on Saturday night. Becoming partly cloudy on Sunday with highs in the middle 70s. Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers on Sunday night with lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

* Next Week: A slight chance of showers early on Monday, otherwise partly cloudy with highs in the mid 70s. Partly cloudy with highs in the mid 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will hold into the upper 40s and lower 50s.

* Wildfire Threat: Fire danger will remain elevated through the end of this week. On Friday a surface trough of low pressure will develop to the west and produce gusty south winds across West Central Texas. With very dry air in place over much of West Texas and afternoon high temperatures well above seasonal normals critical fire danger is possible on Friday especially across the big county. A weak cold front will push south across West Central Texas on Saturday and bring cooler temperatures. Thus expect reduced fire danger this week with afternoon minimum relative humidity values remaining above 20 percent.

* Time Change: Standard Time will end Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 AM and at that time we will "spring forward" an hour. * Late Week: Sunny and warming up for Thursday and Friday. Highs into the lower 70s for Thursday and the upper 70s for Friday. Overnight lows into the mid 40s.

* Weekend: Partly cloudy and a tad cooler with highs in the lower 70s under a partly cloudy sky. Lows at night into the mid to upper 40s. There is a slight chance for rain Sunday night across the area, primarily east of an Abilene, Haskell, Ballinger line.

* Wildfire Threat: Fire danger remains elevated as dry air continues over the region. However, winds at 20 feet above ground level will remain light mainly around 10 mph or less.

*** Red Flag Warning in effect for all of West Central Texas this afternoon and into the early evening. ***

* Partly cloudy this morning but as the day progresses we will slowly become mostly sunny. Windy & warm on this Tuesday with highs into the lower 80s and a gusty southwest wind this afternoon. A cold front will move across the region tonight shifting our wind to the northwest and bring in cooler weather late tonight and on Wednesday.

* Midweek/Late Week: Mostly sunny each day with highs into the middle 60s on Wednesday but warming back into the middle and upper 70s by Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows will into the upper 30s Wednesday night but returning to the mid 40s for Thursday and Friday night.

* Wildfire Threat: A strong upper level storm system and associated dryline will move across West Central Texas. the combination of strong southwest to west winds and very dry conditions will result in critical to extremely critical fire weather conditions during the afternoon and early evening. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 11 am to 7 pm CST Tuesday afternoon and evening. strong southwest to west winds gusting 40 to 50 mph will combine with afternoon humidities falling to near 10 percent and extremely dry fuel conditions to create dangerous fire weather conditions for Tuesday afternoon and evening. many wildfires are started by people. do not attempt to burn trash or brush. do not drive into high grass. do not use outdoor equipment such as welders and metal grinders. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

* Breezy and mild start across West Central Texas this morning with temperatures into the 40s and the 50s. On this Monday expect partly cloudy conditions and windy with highs in the upper 70s and the lower 80s. Partly cloudy, breezy and mild tonight with lows in the mid 50s.

* The Week Ahead: Another warm day on Tuesday with highs in the lower 80s under a partly cloudy sky. A cold front will move across the region Tuesday night and could fire off a few isolated rain showers across the far eastern counties. Otherwise expect a dry pattern with this front. Lows Tuesday night into the mid 30s. Cooler on Wednesday with highs in the mid 60s under a partly cloudy sky. Mostly sunny on Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid 70s to upper 70s. Lows at night warm back into the mid 40s.

* Wildfire Threat: Fire weather danger will be elevated with warm temperatures and limited moisture return from the Gulf. Strongest winds today will be mid morning as inversion and low level jet mixes out. May have an hour or two around 11:00 a.m. where winds/RH values approach Red Flag Warning conditions. Main fire weather concerns continue to be Tuesday as a strong surface low moves east across Oklahoma bringing strong dry gusty west winds. Much of West Central Texas is in a Fire Weather Watch. Extremely critical conditions may affect portions of the Western Big Country and Concho Valley with gusts to 45 to 50 mph.

* Cold start this morning across the region with temperatures ranging from the upper 20s to the upper 30s. On this Tuesday expect ample sunshine, breezy and warmer temperatures across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Highs will climb into the middle 70s. Quiet weather this evening but a few clouds will return late tonight and it won't be as cold with lows into the lower 40s.

* Midweek/Late Week: Partly cloudy for Wednesday - Friday across the region with highs into the upper 70s for Wednesday and the lower 80s for Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows will hold into the 40s. A cold front will arrive Friday night and bring in cooler weather for the upcoming weekend.

* The Weekend: Partly cloudy and cooler on Saturday with highs into the middle 60s with lows Saturday night into the middle 30s. Partly cloudy and cool on Sunday with highs in the lower to middle 60s and lows Sunday night into the lower 40s.

* Wildfire Threat: Dry weather will continue this week for West Central Texas. Afternoon relative humidity values will drop to less than 20 percent across most of West Central Texas today and across western sections Wednesday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Winds will be mostly from the south through Thursday and will be somewhat gusty Wednesday afternoon. However, 20 foot winds will remain less than 20 mph. With these conditions and very dry vegetation elevated fire weather conditions will be present during the afternoon hours.

Quiet Weather Expect On This Monday:

* We had quiet a wild weather day on Sunday across the area. Abilene broke a record high hitting 89° and many spots topped out into the lower 90s. A large number of wildfires broke out across the region due to the windy, warm weather and low relative humidity values.

* On this Monday we'll still be breezy this morning and into the day today. A cold front will drop out of the Panhandle and South Plains across the Big Country shifting the wind to the north and northwest later day. Cooler today with highs only into the middle 60s under a sunny sky. Clear and cold tonight with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

* The Week Ahead: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy for Tuesday thru Friday with highs into the mid 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday. High will be around 80 for Thursday and drop back into the mid 70s for Friday. Overnight lows will range into 40s and 50s. A cold front will arrive Friday night and bring in cooler weather for the weekend. There is a very small chance for a few rain showers at this time but the chance is too low to add into my forecast package at this time.

* The Weekend: Partly cloudy and cooler with highs in the lower 60s on Saturday and the mid 60s for Sunday. Overnight lows will be into the 30s.

* Wildfire Threat: A cold front will move through the area this morning with winds becoming northerly behind it at 15 to 20 mph. Winds will diminish to 10 to 15 mph by this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values this afternoon will drop to 25 percent or less across all of West Central Texas. Minimum relative humidity values will remain low throughout much of the upcoming week but winds should remain light. Regardless elevated fire weather conditions can be expected due to the low relative humidity values. no rain is in the forecast through the end of the week.

Cooler weather for the area today with highs into the middle 60s under a sunny sky. Lows tonight will be milder into the mid 40s. Partly cloudy, windy and warm for Saturday with highs around 80 and dropping down into the middle 50s for Saturday night. Partly cloudy on Sunday, windy and warm with highs into the lower 80s with lows into the lower 40s for Sunday night. A cold front will move across the region late Sunday. There is a slight chance of a shower along the front, mainly across the far eastern counties closer to better moisture fetch. Air mass looks to be too dry to support any showers for the rest of the viewing area.

* Weekend Wildfire Threat: Critical fire weather day possible Sunday as a strong surface low develops in Southeast Colorado and moves east. The most critical time for winds are indicated late afternoon Sunday and continuing into through the evening as a Pacific front moves trough. Earlier during the mid and early afternoon Sunday winds are not as strong around 20-25 mph. If later timing of front holds the Fire Weather Watch may need to be extended to midnight.

*** Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for Scurry, Mitchell, Stonewall, Haskell, Throckmorton, Knox, Kindg and Kent County until 11:00 A.M. ***

*** Red Flag Warning in effect for this afternoon and into the early evening for all of West Central Texas ***

*** Lake Wind Advisory in effect for West Central Texas area lakes this afternoon ***

* An area of showers and thunderstorms over the South Plains and the Northern Permian Basin will move east and northeastward across the Big Country this morning. These storms should exit the region by midday. A few of these storms could be strong with an isolated severe storm not out of the question. A severe thunderstorm watch is out for the northern, northwestern and western counties until midday. Dewpoint numbers are around the same values so it's humid this morning. There is some patchy fog and drizzle across the area as well. As we progress into the day expect a partly sunny sky with highs into the middle 70s. Cloudy tonight with a good chance for showers and thunderstorms overnight. A few storms could be strong but an organized severe weather threat is not expected. Lows tonight drop into the lower 50s.

* Late Week: Still a few showers and storms around Thursday morning. As the system moves away we'll decrease clouds and turn windy with highs into the lower 70s. Mostly clear and cooler for Thursday night with lows into the mid 30s. Cooler weather on Friday with highs into the upper 60s under a mostly sunny sky. Lows Friday night will be warmer into the upper 40s.

* Weekend: Partly cloudy, windy and warm for Saturday with highs in the upper 70s and dropping down into the lower 50s for Saturday night. Partly cloudy on Sunday and cooler with highs into the middle to upper 60s. There is a slight chance for rain on Sunday as a system works across the region. Mostly sunny to start the day but we should see a few clouds later into the day with highs warming into the middle 60s. Becoming mostly cloudy tonight and warmer with lows into the lower 50s. Areas of fog and drizzle will be possible overnight and into early on Wednesday.

* Midweek/Late: Partly to mostly cloudy on Wednesday with highs into the lower 70s. Cloudy with a slight chance of showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm Wednesday night with lows in the mid 50s. Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms early on Thursday, then decreasing clouds and breezy into the afternoon. Highs into the lower 70s. A little cooler on Friday with highs into the upper 60s and the lower 70s under a mostly sunny sky.

* Weekend: Partly cloudy each day and warmer with highs climbing into the middle 70s area wide each day. A few clouds with lows into the 40s for Saturday morning and 50s on Sunday morning.

* Wildfire Threat: Fire weather conditions will ease somewhat on Tuesday and Wednesday as south to southeast winds bring better low level moisture back into West Central Texas. A weak storm system will bring a chance of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms to the area mainly across the Heartland and the Big Country. However, a developing dryline will move into the area on Thursday. With strong southwest to west winds and a drop in afternoon humidity values will will lead to conditions that approach red flag criteria. * Cloudy start this morning with temperatures ranging from the upper 40s across the northwestern counties to the lower and middle 60s across the southeastern and eastern counties. Most everyone else is pretty much holding into the 50s. Dewpoints are into the 50s as well so a little fog is possible in some areas. A weak front will move across the area early this morning and should help push most of the cloud cover in place to the east. An even stronger Canadian cold front will move across the region this afternoon. The wind will pick up out of the northwest as the stronger front arrives later today. Cooler weather today with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. We'll become mostly clear by tonight and cold with lows dropping into the middle 30s.

* The Week Ahead: Partly cloudy and cooler on Tuesday with highs in the middle and upper 60s with lows in Tuesday night back into the middle 30s. Partly cloudy with areas of drizzle Wednesday morning but warming into the lower 70s during the day. Increasing clouds with a chance of a shower late Wednesday night with lows in the middle 50s. Another cold front will arrive on Thursday and there is a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms with this front (around a 30 percent chance at the moment) as this system moves across the region. Highs in the lower to middle 70s but dropping into the 60s by the afternoon. Another cold night with lows into the upper 30s for Thursday night. Partly cloudy and cool on Friday with highs into the middle 60s.

* Wildfire Threat: Elevated fire weather conditions are expected on Monday as very dry air moves in behind a cold front. Minimum relative humidity values will drop to 20 percent or less across most of the area. Wind speeds are expected to remain between 12 and 15 mph so a Red Flag Warning is not anticipated. Near critical fire weather conditions will be possible on Thursday as a cold front sweeps through the area and brings much drier air and strong gusty west winds to the region. *** Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until Noon for the Big Country, the Northern Concho Valley and the Northern Heartland. ***

*** Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for today across portions of the Big Country and the Heartland. ***

* Winter weather event turning out to not be as extensive as forecast models have predicted over the last 24 hours. A layer of dry air has worked into the mid-levels of the atmosphere overnight and has suppressed any heavier precipitation other than light snow and some freezing drizzle. At the time of this update there is a decent band of light snow from around Haskell to Seymour to Wichita Falls but this band is tracking southeast and will just clip the northeastern counties. Otherwise just some very light snow/freezing drizzle in scattered spots over the most of the viewing area. Be alert that this precipitation can still cause some light icing issues on bridges, overpasses and roadways this morning. We've heard reports of some icy spots in portions of the Heartland and the Eastern Big Country.

* Light snow will end by midday across the area but very cold with highs only into the lower 20s today. It'll feel colder with a gusty north wind pushing wind chill values below zero. Clouds will decrease into the afternoon. Mostly clear and very cold tonight with lows in the upper 0s to low 10s across the area. Any precipitation still on the ground will still cause some minor icy travel issues overnight and early Thursday morning. Mostly sunny on Thursday with highs warming into the middle 30s.

* Friday/Weekend Weather: Abundant sunshine and warming up for Friday and into the upcoming weekend. Highs Friday climb into the lower 50s and into the lower 60s by Saturday. On Sunday many spots could hit 70° for high temperatures. Lows in the upper 10s Friday morning, middle 20s on Saturday morning and lower 30s for Sunday morning.

*** Winter Storm Warning for Eastland, Stephens and Comanche County for late tonight and on Wednesday. ***

*** Winter Weather Advisory for Taylor, Callahan, Jones, Haskell, Shackelford, Throckmorton, Stonewall, King, Kent and Mills County for late tonight and on Wednesday. ***

* Increasing clouds today, windy and warmer with highs in the upper 50s and the lower 60s. Cloudy tonight with periods of rain, then sleet, changing to all snow overnight. Accumulation of 1-3 inches is expected across the area. Lows tonight around 15. Travel is expected to become slick and hazardous across the area as roadways become snow covered.

* Late Week: Mostly sunny and cold on Thursday with lows around 10 in the morning and warming up into the middle 30s later in the day. Cooling down into the upper 10s and lower 20s under a mostly clear sky Thursday night and Friday morning. Warmer on Friday with highs warming into the lower 50s under a sunny sky.

* Weekend: Abundant sunshine and warmer with afternoon highs in the lower 60s on Saturday and middle to upper 60s on Sunday. Overnight lows into the lower and middle 30s.

Some Sunshine Early Week, Midweek Winter Storm:

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Still some snow around this morning from the event last night. Be advised that there could still be a few slick spots in random locations across the Big Country. There is also some spots with black ice too this morning. Temperatures are hovering in the upper 20s and lower to middle 30s across West Central Texas this morning. On this Monday expect a sunny sky with high temperatures into the middle and upper 40s. Clear and cool tonight with lows in the lower 30s. On Tuesday we'll start out sunny but clouds will be on the increase by the afternoon. Warmer and breezy on Tuesday with highs in the middle and upper 50s.

* Midweek Winter Storm: The cold front will move into West Central Texas late Tuesday night and into early Wednesday. Our winter weather event will begin with a wintry mix of rain/freezing rain/sleet and snow at first and will chance over to an all snow event overnight and during the day on Wednesday. The best chance of accumulation will be north of Interstate 20. Based on current weather data we'll forecast an accumulation of 1-3 inches across the area with some isolated higher totals over the far northern counties of the Big Country. Lows Tuesday night into the lower to middle 10s and highs on Wednesday in the upper 10s and lower 20s. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has already put out a Winter Storm Watch for our easternmost counties (Stephens, Eastland) for late tomorrow night and into the day on Wednesday. No advisories have been issued by the other NWS offices covering our viewing area yet. Stay tuned for updates.

* Late Week: Mostly sunny and cold on Thursday with lows around 15 in the morning and warming up into the middle 30s later in the day. Cooling down into the lower 20s under a mostly clear sky Thursday night and Friday morning. Warmer on Friday with highs warming into the lower 50s under a sunny sky.

* Weekend: Abundant sunshine and warmer with afternoon highs in the lower to middle 60s and overnight lows into the lower and middle 30s.

* From the NWS/San Angelo: Bands of light to briefly moderate snow will continue across West Central Texas through sunrise mainly along and north of a Ballinger to Brownwood line. This area includes the cities of Abilene and Brownwood. but does not include San Angelo and Sweetwater. Additional totals will remain at less than one half inch for most areas. However, this snow will fall across areas that are still recovering from the ice and snow earlier in the week and may again create hazardous driving conditions. The snow should end by mid morning. Area roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, wll become slippery with the snowfall. Slow down and use extra caution when driving.

* Snow showers this morning then decreasing clouds into the afternoon. Still a cold day with highs in the middle and upper 20s area wide. A few clouds and cold tonight with lows in the lower 20s. Partly cloudy and warmer with highs in the upper 50s on Saturday and on Sunday. Lows at night into the middle 20s to lower 30s.

* Next Week: Models show another round of cold weather for early next week and also a chance for some more wintry precipitation across West Central Texas on Monday and Wednesday. Highs dropping back into the upper 30s on Monday, warm up to the mid 40s on Tuesday and then cool back down into the lower 30s on Wednesday. Overnight lows in the upper 10s to middle 20s.

* Cloudy with some light snow showers and flurries over parts of the area this morning. Mostly cloudy and cold on this Thursday with highs ranging between 15-20 and dropping down to around 10 tonight. Snow flurries are possible at times today Another weak system working across the region will bring some light snow across West Central Texas late tonight and into the day on Friday. Wind chill values will remain below zero at times. On Friday we'll have some light snow during the first half of the day and we'll be cloudy. Decreasing clouds later into the day with highs in the lower 30s. Friday night into the middle 20s.

* Weekend/Next Week: Partly cloudy and warmer with highs in the lower 50s on Saturday and on Sunday. Lows at night into the middle 20s to lower 30s. Models are hinting at another round of cold weather for early next week and also a chance for some more wintry precipitation across West Central Texas on Monday. Highs dropping back into the 39s early next week with lows in the lower 20s.

*** Wind Chill Advisory in effect for all of West Central Texas until 7:00 A.M. on Thursday. Wind chill values will range from -10 to 10 across the area. ***

* One of the coldest mornings we've seen in many years across West Central Texas with temperatures in the single digits and teens across the region. Cloudy, breezy and cold on this Wednesday across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Highs today only in the middle 10s (teens) and overnight lows tonight around 5° area wide. A disturbance working out of New Mexico across West Texas will bring a slight chance of some isolated snow showers today. No accumulation issues are expected with these showers.

* Late Week: Mostly cloudy and cold on Thursday with highs around 20 and dropping down to around 10 Thursday night. Another weak system working across the region could bring some light snow across West Central Texas late tomorrow night and into Friday. Wind chill values will remain below zero at times. On Friday we'll become partly cloudy and warm up into the middle 30s. Hopefully we can get some better melting going on the snow and ice by that point. Lows Friday night into the middle 20s.

* Weekend/Next Week: Partly cloudy and warmer with highs in the lower 50s on Saturday and upper 50s on Sunday. Lows at night into the middle 20s to lower 30s. Models are hinting at another round of cold weather for early next week and also a chance for some more wintry precipitation across West Central Texas.

* Roadways: Roadways across the Big Country, the Northern Concho Valley and the Northern Heartland will remain extremely dangerous for today, tonight and on Thursday with high temperatures in the 10s and 20s and overnight lows ranging between 5 to 15 degrees. Even if there is some slight melting or some of the roadways have some tracks from vehicle travel these spots will quickly ice back over and become treacherous.

* Running a little behind this morning due to a tricky forecast so I will let the National Weather Service Winter Storm Watch text cover the weather blog discussion this morning. Major winter storm will affect West Central Texas late tonight and on Tuesday. We're expecting wintry precipitation and extremely cold temperatures across the area. As for today we'll see a mostly cloudy sky and warm with highs in the middle and upper 60s. Stay tuned for weather updates.

* Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Tuesday morning for the Big Country. Impacts: Ice and snow accumulations will produce slick and hazardous roads, bridges and overpasses including Interstate 20. Also strong north winds will produce bitter cold wind chills in the zero to 5 below range. Timing: Snow, sleet and some freezing rain are expected to develop after midnight. Most of the heavy snow potential will end around sunrise Tuesday morning mainly light snow and blowing snow is expected. Accumulations: Ice accumulation of around 1/10 of an inch is possible along with 2 to 5 inches of snow. Winds/Visibility: North winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph are expected. snow and blowing snow will reduce visibilities to possibly below 1/4 mile. A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Great weather ahead on this Friday with abundant sunshine and highs warming into the upper 60s and lower 70s across West Central Texas. Mostly clear and cool tonight with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

* Weekend: Warm weather will continue into the early part of the weekend with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s on Saturday. Lows will drop into the upper 30s for Saturday night. A disturbance working across the region could squeeze out a few rain showers across the southern and eastern portions of the viewing area Saturday night and early on Sunday morning. Partly cloudy on Sunday and cooler with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

* Next Week: Increasing clouds on Monday and warm with highs into the middle 50s. A strong cold front will move into the region late Monday night and into early Tuesday with lows dropping into the lower 30s. Cloudy and very cold on Tuesday with a chance of a rain/snow/sleet mix across West Central Texas. Highs will be low to mid 30s all day on Tuesday. The precipitation will end Tuesday night and early on Wednesday but very cold with lows in the upper 10s and lower 20s. Still cold on Wednesday with highs in the middle 30s under a partly cloudy sky. I will note the model runs this morning are trying to slow down the arrival of the cold front to later on Tuesday.

* Some light snow across the Big Country early this morning but weather conditions are not favorable for any weather problems. Temperatures have been holding in the middle and upper 30s and the snow band has slowly thinned out as it has moved southward. The NWS/San Angelo cancelled the Winter Weather Advisory earlier this morning based on the trend. There could still be a light dusting on grassy areas across the Big Country but ground temperatures are warm and roads are fine. Decreasing clouds into the morning as the snow ends, in fact sunshine will be back in full force by midday and into the afternoon. Highs today in the upper 40s and lower 50s with a cool northwest breeze. Tonight we'll drop into the middle and upper 30s under a mostly clear sky.

* Middle/Late Week: Warming back into the middle and upper 50s for Wednesday, lower 50s on Thursday and middle and upper 60s Friday. Lows will range from the middle 20s to the lower 30s. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions expected each day.

* Weekend: Another cold front will arrive on late Saturday. There could be an isolated shower Saturday night or early Sunday morning but models are not in agreement over this solution. We'll still be in the 60s on Saturday but the front will cool us back into the 50s for Sunday. Lows each night into the middle 30s. Expect a partly cloudy sky over the weekend.

* A cold start to our Monday with temperatures ranging from the lower 20s to the lower 30s across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley this morning. Mostly sunny, breezy and turning milder by the afternoon with highs climbing into the upper 50s and lower 60s across West Central Texas. A cold front will move across the region tonight. As the front moves down across the region there will be an upper level disturbance moving across the region. With some moisture in place there is a chance of light snow late tonight and early Tuesday morning across the Big Country. I'm going with a 30 percent chance of light snow in my forecast package for the area. As far as accumulations we could see a dusting on grassy areas, although a few isolated spots could get up to 0.50 to 1.00" of snow. Lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. At the time of this blog, no Winter Weather Advisories have been issued by the local National Weather Service offices but they could be later today. Stay tuned for updates on Abilene Midday and later today on KRBC News.

* Middle/Late Week: Snow ends Tuesday morning, decreasing clouds and cooler with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Warming back into the middle and upper 50s for Wednesday and Thursday with middle 60s back into the forecast by Friday. Lows will range from the middle 20s to the lower 30s. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions expected each day.

* Weekend: Another cold front will arrive on Saturday cooling weekend high temperatures back into the lower 50s with overnight lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Mostly cloudy on Saturday and partly cloudy on Sunday. Models are hinting at a chance of a shower Saturday but for now I've left it out of my forecast.

* Very cold temperatures across the area this morning. Overnight lows were in the teens and lower 20's for everyone. The good news is that we'll be warming nicely under mostly clear skies today. Our highs should make it up into the lower 50's, quite a different picture from yesterday. We'll be chilly again tonight. Expect mostly clear skies with lows in the mid 20's.

* Weekend: A pleasant day for Saturday with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. We'll be warmer, with highs near 60 degrees. Saturday night lows will be in the mid 30's. A weak cold front moves it's way in on Sunday morning, dropping out temperatures a bit. Expect highs on Sunday near 50, with overnight lows in the mid 20's.

* Next Week: We'll see a series of dry cold fronts come through the area. Temperatures will range at or slightly below normal, with highs in the lower 50's and lows in the mid to upper 20's to lower 30's. We're going to keep it dry throughout the forecast period.

Good Morning from KRBC Forecaster John Nolan...

* Much colder temperatures greet us this morning thanks to a strong cold front which moved through during the overnight and early morning hours. Mornings temperatures were running in the upper 20's behind the front. Gusty North winds were going between 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40mph. Wind chills are very cold, into the teens. We won't warm much today, expect highs near 39. Clouds should clear out later in the day.

* Winds will subside tonight allowing radiational cooling to take place. Expect very cold temperatures overnight, with lows in the upper teens to near 20 degrees. Winds will shift to the South which will allow our temperatures to rise back into the lower 50's for highs on Friday under mostly clear skies.

* Weekend: Partly cloudy for Saturday, warmer as well with highs in the mid to upper 50's. Another cold front works through the area on Sunday, bringing a slight chance for precipitation. Expect lows to be in the upper 20's and highs to be near 50 degrees.

* Next Week: We'll keep a slight chance for showers in the forecast for early Monday. Temperatures will hover around the 50 degree mark through mid-week, with overnight lows in the upper 20's and lower 30's.

* Once again we have areas of patchy fog this morning across portions of est Central Texas. Otherwise we're mostly clear across the area with temperatures into the 30s and lower 40s. Mostly sunny, windy & warmer today with highs climbing into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Could see some areas of blowing dust as well. Increasing clouds tonight and windy with lows in the middle 30s. Areas of patchy fog will develop late tonight.

* A strong cold front will move into West Central Texas early on Thursday bringing colder weather. There is a slight chance for rain (mostly just drizzle) on Thursday under a mostly cloudy sky. Areas of patchy fog during the morning hours. Clouds should begin to thin out some into the afternoon. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with lows Thursday night into the upper 10s and lower 20s. A little warmer but still cool on Friday with highs in the lower 50s and lows dropping into the middle 20s for Friday night. Partly cloudy conditions expected for Friday.

* Weekend: Partly cloudy and warmer on Saturday with high temperatures into the middle and upper 50s and lows Saturday night in the lower 30s. Based on model runs this morning there is slight chance for showers Sunday and into Sunday night under a mostly cloudy sky. A cold front will also move through the region on Sunday. Highs in the lower 50s with overnight lows into the middle 30s.

* Patchy fog this morning mostly over the eastern counties of the Big Country. A weak cold front has shifted through the area overnight and has shift our winds to the north. Expect a partly cloudy day with highs climbing into the upper 50s. Partly cloudy and cool tonight with lows in the middle 30s. Winds will switch to the south and southwest on Wednesday warming us up quickly into the middle and upper 60s under a partly cloudy sky. We'll drop down into the lower 30s Wednesday night with increasing clouds late and areas of patchy fog developing.

* Late Week: A strong cold front will move into the region by Thursday bringing cooler weather for West Central Texas. There is a slight chance for rain (mostly just drizzle) on Thursday under a mostly cloudy sky. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with lows Thursday night into the upper 10s and lower 20s. A little warmer but still cool on Friday with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s and lows dropping into the middle 20s for Friday night. Mostly sunny conditions expected for Friday.

* Waking up to dense fog across West Central Texas this morning with visibilities at times down to 1/4 of a mile. Temperatures are into the 30s as well as the dewpoint temperatures so we're pretty saturated out there so the low clouds and fog will stick around for a while. Decreasing clouds by midday across the area with a mostly sunny sky back in the picture this afternoon. Highs will climb into the middle 60s. Mostly clear tonight with lows in the upper 30s.

* Early Week: A weak front passing through will help cool highs on Tuesday back into the lower 60s but we're heading back into the middle and upper 60s by Wednesday. Overnight lows will be into the middle and upper 30s. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky.

* Late Week: A strong cold front will move into the region by Thursday bringing cooler weather for West Central Texas. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with lows Thursday night into the lower 20s. Still cool on Friday with highs in the lower 40s and lows into the middle 20s for Friday night. Expect a partly cloudy sky both days.

* Clear & cool outside this morning across West Central Texas with temperatures mostly into the 30s. Warmer weather on tap for today with highs climbing into the lower and middle 50s under a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Clouds will be on the increase tonight with lows in the lower 30s.

* Weekend: A disturbance working across the region to our south will tap some moisture and will squeeze out a few showers, mostly south of the I-20 corridor on Saturday and early Sunday. Otherwise we'll be mostly cloudy to cloudy over the area with highs in the lower 50s. Clouds early on Sunday then becoming partly cloudy later in the day with highs warming into the lower 60s. Overnight lows each morning in the middle to upper 30s.

* Next Week: Still warm on Monday with highs in the middle 60s under a partly cloudy sky and dropping into the middle 30s Monday night. A cold front will move into the area on Tuesday lowering highs back into the lower 50s for midweek and overnight lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s. A few clouds will be around for the middle of the week. This air mass doesn't look to be as cold as the recent spell we dealt with earlier this week.

* Still a decent amount of clouds across West Central Texas this morning but things are clear to our west and northwest across the Permian Basin and the South Plains. The clouds will continue to thin out from west to east today. The good news is we'll see the sunshine return today and we'll also get temperatures warmed up out of the 30s. We should be mostly sunny to partly cloudy by afternoon with highs in the middle 40s. Some clouds will return tonight but we'll still be chilly with lows dropping into the middle 20s. Warmer weather on Friday with highs back into the lower and middle 50s under a partly cloudy sky. Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow night with lows in the lower 30s.

* Weekend: A system working across the Big Bend area and into the Northern Edwards Plateau/Concho Valley could squeeze out a stray shower a little south of the I-20 corridor on Saturday. Otherwise we'll be mostly cloudy over the area with highs in the middle 50s. Partly cloudy and warming into the lower 60s on Sunday. Lows each morning in the middle to upper 30s.

* Next Week: Still warm on Monday with highs in the lower 60s under a partly cloudy sky and dropping into the middle 30s Monday night. A cold front will move into the area on Tuesday lowering highs back into the lower 50s for midweek and overnight lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s. A few clouds will be around for the middle of the week. Models are still not in agreement with how cold the air mass will be for us across West Central Texas but we'll continue to advertise the cooler pattern for next week.

* Another cold morning across West Central Texas but it's not quite as cold as the models and our forecast had predicted. The cloud deck returned overnight and that has held temperatures in the upper 10s to the mid 20s. Having said that there could still be some areas that will dip into the middle 10s. On this Wednesday we'll remain mostly cloudy to cloudy with highs only into the middle 30s. Mostly cloudy tonight with lows around 20. A weak disturbance will move across West Texas later today and tonight and could squeeze out a few snow flurries. There's not a lot of moisture to work with so we'll have to see if we can get a few flurries out of the system.

* Late Week/Weekend: We'll start to warm up around here on Thursday with highs in the lower to middle 40s under a mostly cloudy sky. Lows Thursday night will be in the mid 20s. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday we'll warm into the middle 50s with overnight lows in the lower to mid 30s. Expect a partly cloudy sky during this time frame.

* Next Week: Warming up into the lower 60s on Monday ahead of the next strong cold front that will arrive on Tuesday. Highs drop back into the lower 50s on Tuesday. Expect a partly cloudy sky early next week. Models are not in agreement with how cold this next Arctic blast will be for us across West Central Texas but we'll continue to advertise a cooler pattern next week.

Expect a partly cloudy and cold day ahead with highs in the lower to middle 30s. Increasing high clouds tonight but very cold with lows around 15 and a light east breeze. Another cold day on Wednesday under a mostly cloudy sky and highs in the middle 30s. A weak system moving out of New Mexico into West Texas Wednesday afternoon and night could tap some moisture and squeeze out a few snow flurries. Lows Wednesday night in the upper 10s to lower 20s.

* Late Week/Weekend: Gradual warming trend will take place during the late week and into the upcoming weekend. Highs on Thursday climb back into the middle 40s after a cold start. Highs Friday will be in the mid 50s. Upper 50s to lower 60s are the forecast highs on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will range from the upper 20s to the upper 30s. Expect a mostly cloudy sky Friday and Saturday with a partly cloudy sky by Sunday. No precipitation chances are anticipated at this time.

* Patchy fog and drizzle across West Central Texas this morning. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for the Northern Concho Valley and the Heartland into the mid-morning hours. Mostly cloudy out there otherwise this morning with temperatures in the 30s and very low 40s. Arctic cold front will move through the Big County late this morning and should be along and south of Interstate 20 around midday. I don't think we get much of a warming trend today so I'm keeping highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s across the area today. Decreasing clouds tonight, breezy and very cold with lows dropping into the upper 10s (teens) across all of West Central Texas.

* Tuesday & Wednesday: These two days will be the coldest for us across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Highs will only be in the lower to middle 30s with lows middle and upper 10s. The colder spots could see even colder morning lows. Remember your cold weather safety tips (see graphic above) during this time frame. Expect a partly cloudy sky each day.

* Late Week/Weekend: Gradual warming trend will take place during the late week and the early part of the upcoming weekend. Highs on Thursday climb back into the middle 40s after a cold start in the upper 10s. Highs Friday will be in the mid 50s and upper 50s on Saturday. Overnight lows will range from the upper 20s to the middle 30s. We'll cool back down into the lower 50s on Sunday. Expect a partly cloudy sky each day with no rain chances anticipated at this time.

* A bit overcast this morning across West Central Texas with temperatures ranging from the upper 20s to the upper 30s. Expect a mixture of clouds and sunshine today, breezy, with highs climbing into the middle 60s. Mostly cloudy, breezy and cool tonight with lows dropping into the lower 30s.

* Weekend: Moisture returns to the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. A strong low pressure system which is currently over southern areas of California will track eastward tonight and into Saturday. Showers should begin to develop Saturday afternoon. The best chance for rain looks to be Saturday night. The rain ending by early Sunday morning. Highs in the upper 40s on Saturday and Sunday with lows in the lower to middle 30s.

* Next Week: Arctic cold front still on track to arrive in West Central Texas by Monday. This will be the coldest air we've seen so far this winter. Highs on Monday in will be the upper 40s but quickly dropping as the front moves through the area. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday in the lower 30s. Overnight lows in the upper 10s to lower 20s. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. No organized storms systems are expected right now but we'll keep an eye on things. If any weak disturbances move across and they are able tap any moisture then we could see some snow flurries or light snow. For now I'm keeping the forecast on the dry side. We'll remain mostly sunny to partly cloudy today with highs in the upper 50s and the lower 60s. Partly cloudy and a little warmer on Friday with highs in the middle 60s under a partly cloudy sky. Overnight lows will hold in the upper 20s to the lower 30s.

* Weekend: Moisture will return to the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley by the weekend. A strong low pressure system will track across the southwestern states and into Texas on Saturday. With moisture in place the forecast models are generating rain chances across our area. The best chance for rain looks to be Saturday evening and Saturday night. The rain ending by early Sunday morning. Highs in the middle 50s on Saturday, middle 40s on Sunday with lows in the lower to middle 30s.

* Next Week: Arctic blast still on track to arrive in West Central Texas by Monday with a very strong cold front. This will be the coldest air we've seen so far this winter. Highs on Monday in will be the upper 30s. Highs on Tuesday in the lower 30s and middle 30s on Wednesday. Overnight lows in the upper 10s to lower 20s. No organized storms systems are expected right now but we'll keep an eye on things. * Another quiet day ahead for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Tuesday. A weak cold front moved through the area overnight and will cool our temperatures down today into the lower 50s. Expect a few clouds at times today. Another chilly night ahead with lows dipping into the lower 30s under a partly cloudy sky.

* Late Week: We'll remain mostly sunny to partly cloudy each day with highs in the upper 50s and the lower 60s. Overnight lows will hold in the upper 20s to the lower 30s. No rain chances are expected for the late week period.

* Weekend: Moisture will quickly return to the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley by the weekend. A decent system will track across the southwestern states/northern areas of Mexico and into Texas by the weekend. With moisture in place the forecast models are generating rain chances across our area. The best chance looks to be Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. The rain ending by early Sunday morning. Highs in the middle 50s on Saturday, middle 40s on Sunday with lows in the lower 30s.

* Next Week: Long range models continue to advertise an Arctic cold blast across a large part of the country and into West Central Texas. This looks to be the coldest air we've seen so far this winter. Highs on Monday in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Highs on Tuesday in the lower 30s. Overnight lows in the upper 20s Monday morning and lower 20s on Tuesday morning. Stay tuned as we track this possible cold blast arriving early next week.

* Another quiet day ahead for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Tuesday. A weak cold front moved through the area overnight and will cool our temperatures down today into the lower 50s. Expect a few clouds at times today. Another chilly night ahead with lows dipping into the lower 30s under a partly cloudy sky.

* Middle/Late Week: We'll remain partly cloudy each day with highs in the lower 60s on Wednesday, middle to upper 50s on Thursday and back into the lower to middle 60s on Friday. Overnight lows will hold in the upper 20s to the lower and middle 30s. Another weak front will move through midweek but nothing major with the front.

* Weekend: Moisture will quickly return to the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley by the weekend. A decent system track across south and southeastern areas of the state. We'll be on the northern end of the system and with moisture in place the forecast models are generating a decent chance for rain across our area. The best chance looks to be Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. The rain ending by early Sunday morning. Highs in the middle to upper 50s with lows in the middle to upper 30s.

* Next Week: Long range models continue to indicate an Arctic cold blast across a large part of the country including the northern half of Texas and all of West Central Texas. If this forecast pattern holds, this could be the coldest air we've seen so far this winter. Models have backed off on moisture for next week. Way out there (around the 16th) the models are showing cold air and moisture around West Central Texas. Stay tuned as we track this possible cold blast arriving early next week.

* I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. Weather pretty quiet across West Central Texas on this Monday. A cold start with mostly 30s but a few spots have dipped into the 20s. Partly cloudy, breezy and a little warmer today with highs in the upper 50s and the lower 60s. Another chilly night ahead with lows around 30 under a partly cloudy sky.

* The Week Ahead: Quiet weather pattern set up for the new work and school week. We'll remain partly cloudy each day with highs in the 50s on Tuesday and 60s for Wednesday - Friday. Overnight lows will hold in the lower to middle 50s. A few weak cold fronts will move in at times this week but there is no moisture to work with so no rain chances for now.

* Weekend: Moisture will quickly return to the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley by the weekend. A decent system track across south and southeastern areas of the state. We'll be on the northern end of the system and with moisture in place the forecast models are generating a decent chance for rain across our area. * Down The Road: Just a heads up to everyone that the long range forecast models are hinting at a pretty decent cold snap working into West Texas next week. The models are are also showing some moisture around as well and the possibility of wintry precipitation. We're talking the time frame from the 12thv- 17th. This is still out in "voodoo land" on the models but something we'll be watching closely.

* A cold front passed through the area overnight and now we're seeing cooler temperatures in place. Partly cloudy, windy and cooler today with highs in the middle 50s. Dry air and windy conditions will push the region into critical wildfire danger so fire weather advisories are in place this afternoon. Partly cloudy, breezy and colder tonight with lows in the middle 20s.

* Holiday Weekend: A cold start to 2011 with low temperatures on Saturday morning into the mid 20s across the area. Partly cloudy and chilly on New Year's Day with highs in the middle to upper 40s. Partly cloudy and a little warmer on Sunday with highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s after starting the day in the upper teens and the lower 20s.

* Another windy and very warm December day is ahead for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Thursday. Highs today will quickly climb into the lower 70s this afternoon. A gusty southwest wind will continue into the day with the highest wind speeds into the afternoon. Partly cloudy and cooler tonight with lows falling into the middle to upper 30s. The first of two cold fronts will move into West Central Texas late tonight. This first front will push daytime highs back into the middle 50s on Friday. A secondary cold front will arrive Friday night dropping overnight lows into the lower to middle 20s and highs on New Year's Day only in the middle to upper 40s.

* This time last year we had a winter storm taking shape for across the area. One year later it's just a good, soaking rainfall which is a Christmas gift we need with drought issues across our region. Showers and thunderstorms will continue across West Central Texas on this Christmas Eve. The best rain chances will be this morning and into midday. There could still be a few showers into the afternoon but the system will be moving east at that time. This is the best rain chance we've had since late October. Highs were this morning in the lower 50s but we'll hold into the 40s the rest of the day. Decreasing clouds and turning colder for tonight with lows in the upper 20s. If you are heading to a midnight church service you'll need a thick coat.

* Christmas Weekend: Expect a mostly sunny sky over the holiday weekend for West Central Texas. Chilly on Christmas Day (Saturday) with highs in the lower to middle 40s. Highs will be in the upper 40s on Sunday. Overnight lows will be upper 20s Friday morning and into the lower 20s for Sunday morning.

* Next Week: Partly to mostly cloudy with temperatures still on the cool side. Highs will be in the lower to middle 50s on Monday and Tuesday, warming to the middle 60s on Wednesday. Highs in the upper 40s with lows Thursday night holding steady into the lower to middle 40s. Our weather system will move southeastward into the South Plains and the Big Country overnight. Rain chances will be on the increase for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley tonight and into the first half of Friday. We might even see a few thunderstorms. This is the first decent rain chance we've seen for our area since late October. Temperatures will hold in the 40s on Friday. The system will move eastward and rain chances will end by Friday afternoon. Decreasing clouds for late on Christmas Eve with temperatures dropping into the upper 20s by Christmas morning.

* Christmas Weekend: Expect a mostly sunny sky over the holiday weekend for West Central Texas. Chilly on Christmas Day (Saturday) with highs in the lower to middle 40s. A cold front passed through the region overnight and has brought cooler temperatures back to the area. Under a partly cloudy sky we'll warm up into the lower and middle 50s for today. Clouds will be on the increase tonight with lows in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

* Thursday & Friday: Cloudy with areas of drizzle and patchy fog across the region on Thursday with a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs only in the low 50s with lows Thursday night into the lower 40s. A shortwave weather system will move eastward into the South Plains tomorrow evening. * Partly cloudy, breezy and warm on this Tuesday across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Highs will climb back into the lower and middle 80s but it will not be as windy as we experienced on Monday. We are on track to break another record high today. The record high today for Abilene is 82° from 1981. I am forecasting a high of 83° for the Abilene area. Partly cloudy and a little cooler tonight with lows in the lower 40s. Also the winter solstice will occur this afternoon at 5:38 P.M. CST.

* A cold front early on Wednesday will help cool us down some into the lower 60s under a partly cloudy sky. Clouds will be on the increase for Wednesday night and into Thursday. A system passing across the region could squeeze out a few isolated showers on Thursday and Thursday night. Highs on Thursday will be in tbe middle 60s with lows in the middle 40s Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

* Christmas: Cooler temperatures are expected thanks to a strong cold front that will arrive Thursday night. Decreasing clouds on Friday with an isolated shower in the morning, mainly over the eastern counties. Highs on Christmas Eve will be cooler into the upper 40s. * Partly cloudy and unseasonably warm weather is expected across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Monday. High temperatures will warm into the lower to middle 80s. Low relative humidity and a gusty southwest wind into the afternoon will push us into critical wildfire danger across West Central Texas. Fire weather related advisories are in effect for this afternoon. New record high temperatures will go down in the books today across West Central Texas. The record high today for Abilene is 77° from 1921. Partly cloudy, still breezy and mild tonight with lows in the middle 40s.

* Early/Midweek: High temperatures will warm back into the lower 80s on Tuesday. We'll be flirting with record high temperatures again on Tuesday (82° from 1981) for Abilene. A cold front early on Wednesday will help cool us down some into the lower 60s but we'll back into the lower 70s on Thursday before another cold front arrives by that night. Lows in the 40s and 50s each night.

* Christmas: Cooler temperatures are expected thanks to a strong cold front that will arrive Thursday night. Expect a mostly sunny sky over the long holiday weekend for West Central Texas. Highs on Christmas Eve will be cooler into the lower 50s. Even cooler on Saturday with highs in the middle and upper 40s. Highs will warm back into the lower 50s by Sunday. * Mostly sunny and unseasonably warm weather is expected across West Central Texas on this Wednesday. Under a mostly sunny sky we'll warm into the lower 80s across the area. We're also expecting a very windy day with a strong southwest wind. We're also under critical wildfire danger so fire weather related advisories are in effect for the KRBC viewing area. We're also flirting with record high temperatures today. The record high for Abilene today is 82° from 1908. We may tie or break that record high later this afternoon. Mostly clear and turning colder tonight as a front moves into the region. Lows will fall into the middle 30s.

* Colder Air Returns: A strong cold front will arrive overnight and into early Thursday bringing in a much colder air mass for West Central Texas for the late week. Partly cloudy and much colder on Thursday with highs in the lower 50s and dropping down into the middel 20s for Thursday night. A weak system will work across the region on Friday increasing cloud cover and squeezing out some moisture. Cloud cover will keep temperatures into the upper 30s and lower 40s. There is a slight chance of light rain for the area that could have some snow mixed in with it at times. No accumulation is expected. The best chance of seeing the snow mix would be across the Northern Big Country. Very cold for Friday night as we drop into the lower 20s under a partly cloudy sky.

We'll remain clear and breezy tonight with lows in the middle 40s. It'll be much warmer and windier on Wednesday with highs in the lower 80s under a sunny sky. There is already a Fire Weather Watch out for Wednesday which will probably be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning by this evening or early tomorrow morning.

* Colder Air Returns: A strong cold front will arrive late Wednesday and early Thursday bring in a much colder air mass for West Central Texas on Thursday and Friday. Highs will be in the lower 50s on Thursday and only into the middle 40s on Friday. Lows Thursday morning will be in the middle 30s but even colder by Friday morning with low temperatures intot he mdidle 20s. Expect a partly cloudy sky each day but with little moisture in the air don't expect any rain chances.

* A weak trough/frontal boundary worked across the area overnight but it's not going to cool us down that much. Highs today will still be warm into the middle and upper 60s. We'll see some clouds across the area at times today. Still partly cloudy and a little warmer tonight with lows dropping into the lower 40s.

* Weekend: Another mostly sunny & slightly warm day on Saturday with highs in the lower to middle 60s. A strong cold front will move into the region on Saturday bring in much cooler weather to West Central Texas. Temperatures will drop into the afternoon and into the night. Our overnight lows will be in the middle 20s. Highs on Sunday will only reach the upper 40s and lower 50s under a mostly sunny sky.

* Next Week: Mostly sunny each day with temperatures warming back into the lower 60s on Monday. Temperatures climb back into the 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday with overnight lows heading back into the middle and upper 30s. Expect a mostly clear sky each day.

* Rain Chances: We still don't see a drop of precipitation in the extended forecast for the next seven days across West Central Texas. We've not had a good soaking rainfall around here since October 23.

* Drought Issues: Drought conditions are in place over the eastern counties of the Big Country and the Northern Heartland, according to the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor. Coleman, Eastland and Stephens County, along with portions of Brown and Comanche County have been classified as experiencing "moderate stage" drought conditions. The southern portions of Coleman, Brown and Comanche County have been upgraded to "severe stage" drought conditions. Most of the Big Country and the Concho Valley remains classified as "abnormally dry." On the drought monitor this dryness category indicates these areas are slipping toward early stage drought conditions. Widespread deterioration occurred through most of Texas and Oklahoma during the past week, according to information provided with the drought monitor update. Very little precipitation fell during the last few weeks which has led to rapidly increasing impacts and concerns, especially surface moisture declines and its related impacts on wildfire potential and available livestock feed. Fire officials with the Texas Forest Service announced Thursday that the wildfire threat in the state will be serious for the upcoming months.

* Sunny, breezy and warmer on this Friday with highs in the middle and upper 70s across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Lows tonight will fall into the lower 40s.

* The Weekend: Partly cloudy over the weekend across West Central Texas. Turn cooler on Saturday with highs around 60 but dropping into the afternoon with a cold front moving across the area. Highs into the lower 50s on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the mid 20s on Saturday night and back into the low 20s for Sunday night. No rain chances are expected over the weekend.

* Next Week: Models continue to bring a colder air mass into West Central Texas for the early part of next week with lows well into the 20s and highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s for Monday and Tuesday. Weather looks quiet and nice for the 25th Annual KRBC Share Your Christmas event next Wednesday with highs back into the upper 50s. Even warmer on Thursday with highs into the 60s. No rain chances are expected for next week.

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Sunny today and turning warmer with highs in the upper 60s across the region with lows dropping back into the middle 30s for tonight with a few high clouds in the area. Temperatures will continue to warm up placing highs in the above average range for early December on Friday with highs in the middle 50s and lows back into the 40s.

* The Weekend: Partly cloudy over the weekend across West Central Texas. Turn cooler on Saturday with highs back into the upper 50s and into the lower 50s on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the low 40s on Saturday night and back into the upper 20s for Sunday night. No rain chances are expected over the upcoming weekend.

* Next Week: Models continue to bring a colder air mass into West Central Texas for the early part of next week with lows well into the 20s and highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. The model runs from last night and this morning have backed off some on the possibility of a cold rain or something else early next week for now and keep the coldest air and best moisture well to our north and east. Having said that we'll continue to watch the future model runs in case something changes but for now I am going back to dry forecast. Weather looks quiet and nice for the 25th Annual KRBC Share Your Christmas event next Wednesday. Lows that morning in the upper 20s and highs that afternoon in the lower to middle 50s.

Good Morning from KRBC Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Another cold morning out there across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this first day of December. Temperatures at the time of this blog update are in the 20s and 30s. I note the Brownwood Airport is currently reporting 21° at this hour. After our cold start expect plenty of sunshine today and warming up! Highs today will climb into the lower and middle 60s with a south breeze across the area. Another cool night with lows in the mid 30s under a clear sky.

* Late Week: Sunny to mostly sunny conditions will continue into the later half of the week across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Temperatures will continue to warm up placing highs in the above average range for early December. Highs will range from the middle to upper 60s but still cold at night with lows in the lower 30s.

* The Weekend: Clouds will return over the weekend across West Central Texas. Still warm on Saturday with highs in the lower 70s with lows saturday morning in the middle 40s. Another front works into the area for the late weekend with highs dropping back into the middle and upper 50s for Sunday with lows back in the middle 30s by Sunday night.

* Next Week: The model runs for early next week continue to bring a cooler air mass into West Central Texas with highs on Monday and Tuesday into the middle and upper 40s with lows the lower 30s each morning. The models also bring moisture into the region about the time the cooler air works into the area. It's still too far out to say something wintry could happen but I just wanted to give you all heads up that the forecast models are flirting with the possibility around Monday night and Tuesday morning. I wouldn't bet the farm on it and I am sure future model runs may take the chance away or possibly continue the expected weather trend. Stay tuned for updates. Highs in the lower to middle 60s. Partly cloudy and turning colder tonight. Still breezy with a northwest wind, lows drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s.

*** Freeze Warnings remain in effect for West Central Texas into the mid-morning hours. ***

* I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. As advertised on this Black Friday morning a very cold start for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. Temperatures range from the upper teens to the low 30s across the area with most locations into the 20s. A sunny day ahead and a cool with high tempertatures into the middle 50s. Another cold night ahead with a hard freeze again for the majority of the area with lows in the middle 20s. It could be a bit cooler in our colder locations.

* The Weekend: After another very cold start on Saturday morning we'll slowly begin a bit of a warming trend for the weekend. Highs on Saturday will climb into the middle 60s under a sunny sky. Lows Saturday night will be warmer into the middle 30s. Increasing clouds on Sunday and still warm with temperatures into the middle 60s with overnight lows Sunday night into the lower 40s.

* Next Week: Mostly sunny and warm on Monday before another cold front arrives in the area. Highs in the 60s but cooling down into the low 50s for highs in Tuesday and middle/upper 50s on Wednesday. Overnight lows drop back into the middle and upper 20s. We'll warm back up into the lower 60s on Thursday. No rain in the forecast for next week based on model runs this morning.

* We'll start out cloudy on this Wednesday morning and then become partly cloudy during the day. Highs in the upper 70s. Clouds will once again be on the increase tonight. Our strong cold front will move into West Central Texas overnight/early Thanksgiving morning. There will be some moisture ahead of the front and we could see a stray shower, mostly across the eastern and southeastern viewing area ahead of the front.

* The front should clear the KRBC viewing area by daybreak Thursday morning with decreasing clouds into the day. Mostly sunny and much colder on Thanksgiving across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. We'll start the day off in the upper 30s and lower 40s with highs later in the day only climbing into the lower and middle 40s. We're looking at a hard freeze come Thursday night and for shoppers early Friday morning. Models this morning still keep our lows down into the lower 20s and I still expect our colder spots to drop into the teens early on Friday morning. It'll still be cool on Black Friday but still below average on temperatures with highs in the lower and middle 50s under a mostly sunny sky.

* The Weekend: A slight warming trend will begin as we head into the upcoming weekend. Models bring our high temperatures back into the middle and upper 60s with overnight lows in the upper 20s for Saturday morning and the upper 30s for Sunday morning. No rain chances are expected.

Increasing clouds tonight and much warmer with low temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s. We'll start out cloudy on Wednesday morning and then become partly cloudy during the day. Highs in the upper 70s.

* Clouds will once again be on the increase for Wednesday night. Our strong cold front will move into West Central Texas overnight. The clouds out there this morning will slowly decrease as the day progresses and we'll have sunshine back in full force by the early and late afternoon. Another warm day ahead with high temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Clear and colder tonight with lows dropping back into the lower 40s, with a few of the cooler spots possible dipping into the upper 30s.

* Early/Midweek: Expect a partly cloudy sky on Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures remaining above normal for late November. Highs will climb into the middle 70s with overnight lows into the 50s Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Colder by Wednesday night with 30s back across the area. The strong cold front will arrive late Wednesday/early Thursday across West Central Texas bring in a much colder air mass to the region.

* Late Week: Mostly sunny and much colder on Thanksgiving across the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. We'll start the day off in the lower 30s with highs later in the day only climbing into the middle 40s. A very cold night for Thursday night and for shoppers early Friday morning. Models take our lows down into the lower 20s and I do expect our colder spots to drop into the teens early on Friday morning. * The Weekend: Mostly sunny on Saturday and becoming partly cloudy on Sunday with highs in the middle 70s and lows back into the lower to middle 50s. No rain chances are in the picture for the upcoming weekend.

* A cold front will move across the Big Country this morning and will help bring windy conditions into the area this afternoon. Other than the windy conditions the weather today will be nice. Expect plenty of sunshine with highs in the lower to middle 60s. The wind will die down tonight setting us up for a very cold night with lows hovering anywhere from the upper 20s to the lower 30s under a clear sky.

* Late Week: A little cooler on Thursday after a cold start. Highs will climb to around 60 in the area under a sunny sky. Another cool night ahead with lows into the middle 30s. On Friday the temperatures warm back into the upper 60s with lows back into the 40s by Friday night. No rain chances are expected.

A dry cold front will move in on Wednesday shifting our winds by the afternoon to the northwest. A cold night ahead Wednesday night with a light freeze expected with lows in the lower 30s.

* Late Week: Expect sunny to mostly sunny conditions with high around 60 on Thursday and back around 70 on Friday. Overnight lows will be in the middle 30s Thursday night and into the lower 40s come Friday night. No rain chances expected.

* Area of clouds over stretched across West Central Texas this morning so expect a mostly cloudy day with some sunshine peeking through the clouds occasionally. We should begin to thin the clouds some by late afternoon. Highs today will range between 60-65° areawide. Partly cloudy and turning colder tonight with lows in the middle to upper 30s. An area of low pressure will drift across the far northern Big Country later today and tonight while a cold front will move across West Central Texas. We could see an isolated shower over the northern, northeastern and eastern counties later today and tonight so I included a 20-percent chance of a shower for those areas. The rest of the area will remain dry.

* The Week Ahead: Expect sunny to mostly sunny conditions in the forecast for the week ahead. Temperatures will be mild during the daytime and cool at night. Highs in the 60s with lows in the 30s and 40s. A few weak fronts will move in during the week but with dry air in place no rain is expected.

* The Weekend: Mostly sunny and warmer as we head into the upcoming weekend. Highs will climb back into the middle 70s and overnight lows in the upper 40s and lower 50s. The weekend forecast for now looks to remain dry.

* Area of showers and thunderstorms early this morning to our north and west over the South Plains and the Panhandle along the cold front. Expect a mostly cloudy morning and dry to start but as the front slides closer, we'll increase our chance for showers and thunderstorms. It's looking the better coverage of storms will be over the northern half of the Big Country, roughly along and north of the U.S. 180 corridor but all of us will at least see a chance of some rain. Highs will range from the upper 50s to the lower 70s based on where you are in relation to the cold front that will march across West Central Texas during the day today. Cooler to the east and warmer to the west. Clouds will be on the decrease and turning colder as lows tonight drop into the middle 30s across West Central Texas.

* Weekend: Mostly sunny and dry on Saturday with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Turning partly cloudy on Sunday with a slight chance of rain south of Interstate 20 down across the Heartland. Highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Lows in the low to middle 30s each morning.

Still breezy and warm under a partly cloudy sky on Wednesday with highs in the middle 70s.

* The later half of the week will bring in cooler temperatures and some stormy weather. An upper level storm system and strong cold front are forecast move into the region late Thursday and on Friday. There is a decent chance for thunderstorms across West Central Texas at the moment. If the system tracks a little more southward it would be able to catch more moisture and could bring a risk of strong to severe storms to the region. Highs drop back into the low 70s on Thursday and the upper 50s/lower 60s for Friday and into the weekend. Overnight lows hold into the 50s but will drop back into the middle 30s and lower 40s over the weekend. Expect clouds around Thursday and Friday and partly conditions over the weekend. Looks like another rain chance coming in on Monday of next week.

* A chilly start to Friday with temperatures in the 30's for most. South and East towards Brownwood temperatures dipped into the 20's. We'll warm nicely this afternoon under sunny skies with light winds. Expect a high in the mid 60's

* Cool and Clear tonight but not as cold as last night. Friday Night Football looks to be in great shape with temperatures in the lower 60's for kick off and dropping into the upper 40's/lower 50's by the 4th quarter. We'll see a low tonight in the upper 30's to lower 40's.

* The Weekend/Next Week: Temperatures begin to warm on Saturday as Southerly winds take over. High pressure to our North and East begins to move South, bringing in the warmer air. Expect highs on Saturday and Sunday to be in the low to mid 70's with lows in the mid to upper 40's. There will be plenty of sun and clear blue skies as well. The warmer temperatures and clear skies stay with us through midweek. Highs Monday through Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 70's. Looking towards the end of next week there might be a slight chance of rain by Thursday.

A freeze warning is in effect for the Northern Concho Valley and Heartland for overnight. This area is likely to see a freeze. Expect a light freeze and areas of patchy frost across a good part of West Central Texas tonight.

* The Weekend/Next Week: Another cool day on Friday with a sunny sky and highs in the middle and upper 60s. A warming trend is expect for the upcoming weekend. Good Morning from Meteorologist Chris Whited...

* Welcome to November and on this first day of the new month we'll see much cooler weather. We made it to 90° on Halloween but a cold front moved through earlier this morning. Highs today will only reach the lower 70s. Expect a few clouds early this morning then a mostly sunny day. Tonight we'll see a few more clouds around and overnight lows will drop into the middle and upper 40s.

* The Week Ahead: Expect mostly sunny conditions with temperatures running near normal or slightly below normal. Highs will remain in the upper 60s with lows in the middle 40s but slipping into the middle 30s by Friday. The forecast will remain dry.

* The Weekend: A slight warming trend is expect for the upcoming weekend. Mostly sunny each day with highs in the lower 70s. Saturday morning lows in the 30s and back into the 40s on Sunday morning. The forecast for the weekend remains dry.

* Time Change: Daylight Saving Time will end Sunday, November 7 at 2:00 AM and at that time we "fall back" an hour. Remember to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed that Saturday night or turn them back when you wake up on Sunday morning. In case your wondering we will lose that hour when the time changes on Sunday, March 13, 2011. The Abilene Fire Department would like to remind residents that while your changing the clock to also take the time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It's also a good idea to check the batteries in your weather radio as well.

* The coldest air of the season is in place across West Central Texas early on this Friday morning. At the time I am updating this morning weather blog we have widespread 30s. I note at this hour Dyess AFB is reporting 33° and Brownwood is at 32° with everyone else in the middle 30s.

* Sunny and mild on this Friday across teh Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley. High temperatures today will warm into the upper 60s and lower 70s. We won't be as cold tonight as lows drop into the middle 40s but it will still be chilly at the Friday night football games.

* The Weekend: We will warm back into the lower 80s on Saturday and the middle to upper 80s on Sunday. Lows will range from the middle 40s to the lower 50s over the weekend.

* Next Week: Mostly sunny conditions will remain in place. Another cold front arrives early next week knocking daytime highs back into the middle and upper 60s and lower 70s and lows back into the lower to middle 40s for the early week and back into the 30s by the middle of the week.

* Sunny and much cooler today for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Thursday. High temperatures today will only warm into the upper 60s and low 70s. A very cold night ahead for all of us as temperatures drop down into the middle and upper 30s. Expect some areas of patchy frost as well.

* The Weekend: Mostly sunny with highs back into in the lower to middle 70s on Friday. We will warm back into the lower 80s on Saturday and middle 80s on Sunday. Lows will range from the middle 40s to the lower 50s over the weekend.

* Next Week: Mostly sunny conditions will remain in place. Another cold front arrives next week knocking highs by Tuesday and Wednesday back into the middle and upper 60s and lower 70s and lows back into the lower to middle 40s.

* Rain Chances: Still no rain chances expected in the extended forecast as a cool and dry air mass will remain in place across West Central Texas. We're over an inch below normal on rainfall for the month of October. We're still running over 5 inches above normal on rainfall for the year.

* Another nice day ahead for the Big Country, the Northern Heartland and the Northern Concho Valley on this Wednesday. Abundant sunshine and mild with highs today into the middle 70s. Another cold front will arrive today bringing in cooler air for tonight and into Thursday. Clear and cool tonight with lows in the lower to middle 40s. On Thursday expect a sunny sky with highs in the upper 60s and the lower 70s. It's going to be very chilly Thursday night and Friday morning as low temperatures drop into the upper 30s. The cooler spots could dip into the middle 30s!

* The Weekend: Mostly sunny with highs in the lower 70s on Friday. We will warm back into the middle 80s on Saturday. Temperatures will dip back into the middle 70s on Sunday. Lows will range from the middle 40s to the lower 50s over the weekend.

* Next Week: Mostly sunny conditions will remain in place. Another cold front arrives next week knocking highs by Tuesday and Wednesday back into the middle and upper 60s and lows into the lower to middle 40s.

This front will help cool temperatures back into the middle 70s today and cool lows into the upper 40s and lower 50s tonight. Another front will arrive on Wednesday helping push the highs back into the lower to middle 70s for Thursday and Friday. Lows drop into the into the lower to middle 40s with the second front that arrives on Wednesday. Expect a clear sky each day.

* The Weekend: A few clouds possible by the weekend and starting to warm back up with highs back into the lower 80s and lows back into the lower to middle 50s. The forecast looks dry for the weekend. Halloween weather looks nice for celebrating on either Saturday or Sunday.

* Rain Chances: No rain chances are expected in the extended forecast as a cool and dry air mass will remain in place across West Central Texas. We're still a little behind on rainfall for the month of October but still well over 5 inches above normal on rainfall for the year.

*** Lake Wind & Wind Advisories are in effect for the Big Country, the Northern Concho Valley and the Northern Heartland for this afternoon and into the early evening. ***

* Mostly sunny and windy on this Monday across West Central Texas with highs climbing into the upper 80s and the lower 90s. The wind will pick up into the afternoon out of the southwest ranging between 20-40 miles per hour. There could be some areas of blowing dust today. We'll have to watch the temperatures today as the Abilene record high for today is 91 from 1950. Clear and still a bit breezy tonight with lows in the lower 50s.

* The Week Ahead: A series of cold fronts will move across the region this week. The first will slip across the area late tonight and into tomorrow bringing highs back into the middle and upper 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday. Another front will arrive on Wednesday evening helping push the highs back into the lower to middle 70s for Thursday and Friday. Lows drop into the lower 50s with the first front early this week and into the lower to middle 40s with the front coming up for the later half of the week. Expect a mostly clear sky each day.

* The Weekend: A few clouds possible by the weekend and starting to warm back up with highs back into the lower 80s and lows back into the lower to middle 50s. The forecast looks dry for the weekend.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of the Big Country and KRBC viewing area until 1:00pm on this Saturday.

Counties include Brown, Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Comanche, Concho, Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Mitchell, Nolan, Runnels, Stephens, Sterling, Taylor and Throckmorton counties.

Primary threats from the storms are large hail, damaging wind, dangerous lightning and heavy rainfall.

Rainy Saturday Morning

From KRBC Chief Meteorologist Randy Turner ....

Rain is falling on the roof of KRBC as of 4:30am this Saturday morning. This is a sound we should get used to for much of the day today here in the Big Country.

Plenty of moisture is interracting with an upper level disturbance moving over our area from the southwest causing thunderstorms to develop. One or two storms may become severe today. The main threat is large hail and damaging wind. Frequent cloud to ground lightning can be expected, along with heavy rainfall.

The storm movement will be toward the northeast. Areas most likely to see rain will be along and east of a line from San Angelo to Sweetwater to Haskell, including Abilene. Areas around Coleman and Brownwood have a higher probability of rain today.

Once this system moves past, the rain should end by mid to late afternoon and push to the east.

Then, get ready for the wind! Warm and windy on Sunday. VERY WINDY on Monday with some gusts up to 30 and 40mph possible. Temperatures in the low to mid 80's Sunday, upper 80's possible on Monday.
